“Quinn awakes dreaming of a ravishing beauty, he pricks in finger on a thorn and realizes his dream was real. Driven by insatiable desire, Quinn will face heaven and hell to find her.”

The synopsis is misleading. That being said, I didn’t really enjoy the story, and only finished it because of how short it is—even then, I skimmed a bit.

The FMC came across as entitled despite her humble upbringing.

”She’d lived her life in a shabby cottage. Aye it was cozy, but thanks to the Campbells, Alice had been deprived of growing up in fine style. She’d been deprived of lavish gowns and a marriage arranged to strengthen bonds between clans.”

Her maturity was that of a teenager, rather than a twenty-four-year-old—granted, she was isolated for most of her life, and therefore is lacking in personal experience, and therefore personal growth. It still annoyed me how she goes from claiming the MMC as her mortal enemy to drooling over his physique.

“Alice didn’t want to like him, but it was impossible not to fall victim to the handsome contours of his face.”

I also didn’t care for the MMC. He was constantly waxing poetic about the FMC’s beauty, and overall, just treated her like a coveted possession.

“Aye, dozens of women around would give their eyeteeth to lie with him this night, but not a one would suffice but the beauty who gazed upon him without a smile.”

The romance just didn’t work for me. It was too shallow. I wouldn’t even consider this an insta-love romance, as their relationship was built on, and consisted of, their instant attraction.

I am not sure how I missed this story when it came out, but I could not wait to read it! Why you ask? Well the author is the fabulous Amy Jarecki who always wraps her stories around my heart! Then the cover is my fav cover model. Yes, I know I digress. But had to get that out of the way!
"It is a wise man who can harness the power of the rose. Brawn and bravery may come and go but only wisdom can reverse the curse."
Alice was to speak this when she placed the rose beside the sleeping Quinn Campbell who was grandson of the man who had killed all of her grandmother and her clan years ago. Now was time for their revenge.
Quinn and his two friends were on their way to the Isle of Bute and had stopped at the old ruins of the castle their grandfather had destroyed and taken the land from another clan years ago. While he was asleep he dreamed he was visited by a beautiful woman that he thought he had glimpsed earlier in the day.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story with a braw highlander and a little magic that would pull Quinn and Alice together! Don't miss it!

This was a quick story. Warring families were tricked into working together. Alice wanted revenge, but her grandmother gave her a different task. Alice was sent to attend a meeting of the clans and started with the instructions of her grandmother when she found Quinn. He thought it was a dream, but he became more driven to make Alice his once he realized that she was not. Plans sent them on one path while another event was taking place. Alice was strong, determined, and a smart chief. Quinn was protective and willing to compromise. I enjoyed the story.

This was the first time I listened to a story narrated by the author. She did a good job bringing her characters to life.

This is my unsolicited review.

Little disappointed. I want the more betweens Quinn and Alice and more actions. There's not even love scene, only dialogues.

I did enjoyed reading this short sweet story. In fact, too sweet and clean.

Any way you tell the legend of the rose is sweet. This book was no exception. I like how this is a real rose and how lives throughout the story.

I never like d novelle stories. They are too short and a lot of times we miss out on a lot of facts. I am happy the two clans became one.

This novella is sweet and well presented. Love and a damask rose can heal the ongoing feud between two clans.

Quinn, heir to the Earl of Argyll is on his way to defend his Highland title when he spots Alice. She takes his breath away and he goes in persuit to no avail.

Alice lost her father in a feud between the two clans, and is brought up by her grandmother. On seeing Quinn, she is quite taken by his looks and demeanour, but no matter, his clan is responsible for her father's demise.

Her grandmother, on the other hand has different ideas. She places her faith in the rose, and low and behold, peace is on the horizon.

This story might be short, but it portrays a full and captivating story. Love is a powerful healer. A delightful read.
