If you enjoy the heroine getting tortured and treated like shit by the H himself and because of his actions then this book is for you. Bonus if you like it when he never redeems himself and does not grovel.

I am aware that this has a revenge plot. It was the reason why I picked up the book in the first place and have been anticipating its release since November last year. It being a rejected mate book, the HEROINE doing the rejection, AND rejector and rejectee getting together in the end were just a bonus.

Let's get started on why I hated this book even though the premise sounded incredibly promising.

❗️ MAJOR SPOILERS ❗️

*
*
*

You've been warned.

*
*
*

Strike one:

Some sexual tension would have been nice because this went from 0 to 100 real quick, but fine, I can overlook that seeing as this book only has 220 pages and is a fated mates book. Still didn't like it though because these two had zero chemistry.

Strike two:

The first time I wanted to quit the book was at 10% where I encountered the grossest scene I have ever read in my life. This book was more gruesome than I anticipated and it caught me off-guard.

WARNING. DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU’RE SQUEAMISH. I will tell you what happened without you needing to read the scene but for the curious – go one...

*
*
*

I’m serious though. I’m not a squeamish person (not with books anyway) but I gagged. Several times. Even as I was typing this up for my review, I gagged again.

*
*
*

He lifted his bloodied hand, curling his fingers tightly around my jaw before shoving my father’s heart against my lips.
“Fucking eat it, bitch,” he seethed, watching me through crimson eyes. I opened my mouth, and my canines descended, taking a bite from the rough muscle organ. Blood dripped from my lips, running down my throat as he watched me. I ripped it off, holding the tears at bay as I chewed the gritty meat. Saint held the organ to his lips, ripping off a sizeable chunk before passing it around to his men.

*
*
*

Yep, you read that right, she took a bite out of her father's heart 🤮🤮 I… I did not realize that Alpha’s Claim would be this type of book.

Can you blame me for wanting to quit? I don’t think you can but I powered on because c'mon I paid for this book and wanted to see the revenge.

Strike three:

Saint (H), my main problem.

Did you know that I’m always, ALWAYS partial to the hero? Yeah, I’m always harder on the heroine and am quicker to judge whereas with the hero I can overlook a lot.

Well, Saint, our "hero" was scum. There is no nicer way to say it because frankly, he doesn’t deserve any of the milder varieties like "jerk" or "douchebag".

I couldn’t stand this guy. Let me give you some examples.

“[...] After I’ve claimed you, you can do whatever the fuck you want as long as I approve of it. You’re about to know how the bitches beneath you feel when they’re nothing but a fucking breeder. That was your worst fear, wasn’t it? Being nothing more than a pretty womb that some alpha used to breed his pups?”

“You’re weak. Are you sure you’re not a beta? You fuck like one. No alpha pussy here.”

“I’m finished with your cunt today.”

Mind you, the two latter quotes were uttered right after he fucked her, and the last one, in particular, was after he fucked her, denied her claim on him, marked her with his sperm, AND didn't let her finish. Nothing like a verbal smackdown after being denied an orgasm (and not in the hot way) by your one true love, amIright?

Okay, time out for me. I have to remind myself that this book is about revenge, so he’s SUPPOSED to hurt her, but his behavior was simply too crass and OTT for me. It might have helped if I'd gotten his POV every other chapter but except for one or two times, the reader doesn't get his POV at all. Also, knowing all along that the h’s decision to reject him came from a good place made every word and every action from the H even harder to swallow.

"Now get fucking dressed and stay the fuck away from my son. I won’t let you ruin him as you did me. Do not embarrass me tonight. Try to pretend you’re a lady and not some spoiled bitch who knows nothing else but this fucking mountain you love so much. You’re nothing more than a silly girl raised in a bubble”

***

I didn’t understand their dynamics. They were fighting one moment and fucking the next. Yeah I know, this sounds like the usual enemies-to-lovers fight but trust me, it was bad. Even though revenge is involved she’s not supposed to roll over and take it, I mean what kind of heroine would that be, especially if she knows that she doesn't deserve it? Well, classic case of betraying-body syndrome, our h gets turned on by EVERYTHING he does. Hellooo, fuck this stupid fated bond, he wants to make you his breeding machine. Don’t let your body take over like this.

While reading I had the feeling I should let this go, solely for the reason of them being fated mates but I just couldn’t. Not if he treated her so badly. I know it wasn’t her who got rejected, and if it were, I would have been even more livid but come-the-fuck-on, this guy was an absolute asshole! She shouldn’t have given in so easily!! After all, he was there to make her life a living hell.
She was not able to resist ONCE, in ANYTHING sex-related. She just gave in and I needed her to be more defiant.

Okay whatever, let’s move on. The real shit is only getting started.

You know his main reason for coming back was actually to find the women and children who were held captive by the h’s father and were to be sold off to get tortured. You see, he used to be one of them. After the h publicly rejected him to save him from her father, instead of being banished, he and his group of misfits got sold off on the darknet and were tortured for entertainment purposes. Because of reasons he figured she had to be involved. Everyone, including the h, knew that her father was a monster, the question was if she was in on it or not.

This book took a dark turn really quickly then. The H and his beta drug her, and to test out if she really was out of it so they could question her, the H lets his beta kiss her because if she were lucid she would never let him touch her. WTF.
This is not the worst “non-con/dub-con” scene there is but this is still clearly against her will which can be triggering for some readers.

And so it goes, they ask her where the "shipment" is and she was able to answer them. His men find the women and children and the h gets dragged out to the field where the missing people were currently pulled out of a container. The h insists that she didn’t know about this and begs the H but he doesn’t believe her and puts her in the container with the rotting corpses as punishment.

“You fucking murderous bitch. You did this.”
“You are a fucking monster. You allowed your father to do this to them. How could you allow him to murder these women and children, trading your own people to be tortured? How the fuck could you do this to them? To me, Braelyn? You allowed your father to sell me, your fucking soul mate, to be tortured!”

After that the h gets tortured by the H's psycho ex fuck buddy and a supposed "friend" of the h. Fun times, right? All while the H is out on business and doesn't have a clue what's going on back home.

Well, deeming the h guilty without any tangible proof is the reason why his ex fuck buddy tortured her in the first place so imo this (i.e. the torture) is solely on him. By bringing OW here, he basically ASKED for this to happen. Based on how hard she tried to get her claws into the H I bet the fact that she lost two loved ones was only half the reason for getting back at the h. No empathy from me here because this woman was NASTY.

So our h was deemed guilty by the love of her life, he made the pack turn against her, and she got punished and tortured on top of it. You can probably guess where this is going cause our heroine was not only innocent but she used to be one of her father’s victims too. (The H doesn't find out though until near the end. Just telling you so you know that everything the H does and says to her is completely unjustified and the reader knows the whole time.)

“I was set on fire when I refused to let him breed me, but his beta put me out.”

“The second time I had all the flesh of my body removed, except for my face.”

“[...] my father had tried to artificially impregnate me by fucking my uterus after he’d taken it from my body.”

Back to the tortured heroine still stuck in the container. What happens next is that the H notices something off, comes back home, and gets her out of the container. He's sorry of course but she's still guilty in his eyes.

There's a saying, right? "Actions speak louder than words." The h led her pack as alpha since she was fucking eight, she worked sun up to sun down alongside her people, she never forced the females to breed haphazardly because she wanted the kids to be healthy, she mixed herbal potions for the sick, she sold her late mother’s jewelry to provide for the pack,... she raised his (H's) fucking son who wasn’t even hers for years for god's sake. What more proof of good character does he want? Seriously, he dismissed any fucking hint there was. Or actually, none of these things were EVER mentioned or thought about from the H’s side.

Also, this guy was such a hypocrite and his actions and words never coincided.

Wasn't she deemed guilty by him already? He made a promise to kill her and if he couldn't, he'd let his beta do it. Where was that resolve now? Oh no, he wanted to keep her at his side as his mate:

“I have no intention of staying away from you or your body anymore”

☞ Oh, why not, you already condemned her didn't you?

“You and I will live as the alphas to the pack, even if they don't want you here anymore. I still want you, and that is my choice as alpha. They don't have to like it, but they will respect it.”

One moment he's like, you're my cum bucket and breeding whore and the next he's like

“Regardless of the part you played, you will be the mother of my children, Brae. You are protected because of what you are to me. You won’t escape me, even though you need and want to run from me. There’s nowhere that you can go, that I won’t find you. I craved this with you. I considered what it would be like returning here, finding you with someone else. I’d planned to murder them and claim you. I am pleased that you remained untouched and that you burn hot for me.” [...] “We will find a way to make this work because I can’t live without you again.”

☞ WHAT THE HELL changed? NOTHING changed that is, in fact, everything got even worse because "he found out that she was in on her father's crimes". He said, he can’t trust her words, so what is it then? I don't think you can love someone you don't trust so it can’t be love that makes him want to keep her. He never treated her like he loved her, he degraded her endless times, he didn’t believe her, he forced her into doing stuff,...

I was so confused at this point, why not just let her go. She was hurt, she didn't want anything to do with him and the pack anymore. He thought she was guilty, he didn't want to kill her yet he still wanted to keep her. WHY? And don't give me the "he loved her" crap because NONE of his words or actions ever hinted at wanting to keep her because he loved her. The 180 resulted from his guilt about leaving her with Carleigh and Lucas, pure and simple. Knowing what the reader knows (that she was a victim all along) and the H wanting to keep her and keep insisting that she was guilty all the time… it was frustrating as hell. Naturally, I didn't want him to get her so it was even more frustrating for me.

“Now, I will spend the rest of my life reminding you of what you did to me. You won’t escape me, and we will find a way to compromise and live together.

☞ call me crazy but this does not sound like a healthy relationship to me

Moving on, after everything that happened you'd expect some major groveling but where the hell was it? You telling me that I just went through all this to get absolutely nothing of this sort at the end? Zero. Zilch. Nada?

Add to it that even though the h kept insisting that she hasn't forgiven him yet, everything between them seemed awfully normal after he found out. I did not understand why she wasn't more angry with him... I did not understand why she made everything so easy for him... The h was a fierce and strong female lead character but never when it came to the H. I hated it.

Can’t even blame anyone but myself for this rating... why I even read her new releases baffles me.

Sadly, Amelia Hutchins post 2018 releases have been shelved along with Suzanne Wright, and occasionally Kristen Ashley, for formulaic, overdone tropes, that border on ridiculous. Switch out Braelyn for Aria, Synthia, or any of the other characters I’ve forgotten (paired with an alpha of all alpha assholes) and I can’t say I’d notice the difference.

Ever since the fae chronicles was extended, with the final two/three books being extremely disappointing, I’ve got fbc (familiarity breeds contempt) with Amelia’s writing. There’s probably a million things I could critique, but the worst by far is the unnatural long paragraphs that span pages! Unless you are performing a soliloquy, I promise no one speaks like this! Especially when 90% of the time it’s just a shit way to infodump.

I do not remember her initial series’ being as bad as this. I don’t know if it’s because I’ve evolved as a reader, but Lucien and Lena’s book was definitely not this bad? It just feels like, at this point, Amelia is shitting out releases that quite frankly, no one asked for. If this was a novella, fair enough, but unless these characters will be integrated into the greater fae world as side characters (likely) - I don’t see what it achieved at all.

I honestly was angry, disgusted and empathetic for Braelyn until the 70-80% mark when it stops being so masochistic to read. Well, too late, because I feel traumatised from the amount of shit this asshole puts an innocent woman through. Any scenes that were supposed to be heartwarming/typically heteronormative and “family” like I read fairy apathetically.

This book had the tropes, history and characters that resemble many of her other series (Knox’s boys, Lucien’s men, Ryders’s brothers), except it was condensed into a shorter page count. Consequently, the whole book felt rushed, the romance went from borderline abuse/rape/forced impregnation to a reluctant insta-love (alright, she loved him all along as they were always mates, bla bla bla)

This habit she has of ridiculously long conversations/speeches/declarations often lead to me skimming them, especially during sex scenes (which I skim anyway with this author). Throw in the caricature of the evil bitch character (Claire in the fae chronicles, anyone?) - whose entire existence is reduced to wanting to seduce your man, this felt like a telenovela at times, or a Bollywood movie. I’m all for indulging in a little casual misogyny in paranormal romance, but they just felt very outdated, and incongruous to the world we inhabit.

Another minor gripe I have with Amelia is she always injects a little bit of pop culture, like references to pop songs, that do not fit with the world she has created. For me personally, they just signal that this was written by a horny white soccer mom. Lol. Meow.

How many times can I read the same exact book with different characters?

Maybe I’ll finally learn my lesson this time.

I picked this book on whim, I expected to not enjoy much but I found the story engrossing. This book is an enemies-to-lovers urban fantasy romance, a misunderstanding which separates two mates.

Braelyn Haralson is in a mating ceremony, in this occation she takes a mate chosen by her father. The ceremony is interrupted by Saint Kingsley and his band of misfits. Saint is back to take on the pack, he seeks revenge on Braelyn for whom he was kicked out of the pack.
Braelyn is the daughter of the packs alpha which makes her untouchable. Braelyn and Saint recognize each other as fated soul mates. When Braelyn's father finds her spending more time with Saint, who is an orphan from the wrong side of the tracks he threatens to kill him of she doesn't stop meeting him. To save his life she accuses him wrong which gets Saint and his friends kicked of the pack, unknowinly she sentences him to suffering. Braelyn is a decendent of Fenrir, the first viking wolf which makes her valuable and her father wasn't ready to lose her. Her father is a depraved man with selfish thinking. Years later Saint is back for revenge, with no proofs Saint blames Braelyn of her father's crimes. He kills her father and fianće. He turns the pack members against her, uses her to breed and refuses to fully mate bond with her.

I don't particularly like Alpha females. Saint and Braelyn are Alphas but we know who the Alpha pro is among them. Braelyn goes through a lot among the pack which should have been loyal to her. There are graphically detailed torture. I don't understand Eryx's role in shadowing Saint and Braelyn everywhere, even in the bedroom. Amelia Hutching still gives us meanest heroes and spitfire heroines, to that she is true.

I was apprehensive to read this because I didn’t have the best reading experience with her Fae Chronicles universe, but this was marketed as a standalone (my biggest complaint was how long/confusing/unorganized it got) and I’m always open to seeing how an author’s writing style changes over time. I think this author is hella creative, but I don’t think our styles are super compatible. Some spoilery info, please stop if you want to go in blind.

Alpha’s Claim is Saint and Braelyn’s story and VERY similar to Claiming the Dragon King (which I enjoyed more- I think because that h was really strong and Blane wasn’t quite as cruel. I was also immersed into that world, so I felt a better connection). Both books have angry H’s that hate the h for crimes her father committed and looking for revenge. Both h’s are accused of being whores until a dub-con virginity reveal and have been tortured/abused by their insane fathers. They’re even both called princess in a derogatory way.

So, like I said in that review… This is amazing if you like a cruel H unfairly blaming an innocent h and being a total ASSHOLE…. But… not so much if that’s not your thing or you’re looking for some romance. Without going into spoiler-y details, I can’t recall him straight out physically abusing her in a hit, kick, punch, sort of way … BUT… He's super hateful... AND... He puts her in situations where she is hurt… AND… there’re a couple dub-con situations… AND… there’re some violent scenes, so if you’re squeamish beware.

My issues were more writing specific. These are all ongoing things I’ve noticed in her previous books, so I think it’s just her style... and it probably either works for you or it doesn’t. I will say, I thought the preachy speachy long winding info dump monologues and repetitive info was MUCH better this time around, so props for that. My only obstacle was the lack of worldbuilding.

Worldbuilding is vital to PNR because they don’t live in the real world, so we need rules/guidelines to navigate it. This is part of a series, but I’ve read a few of them and haven’t seen any plot, setting, or character crossover, so it should stand on its own. In the opening chapter we’re dropped into a battle with hunter’s, shifters, witches, demons, and a lycan, but not given any information on how they relate or interconnect. I was confused, I didn’t even understand the main characters because we’re told they’re not shifters because they don’t shift, but they all have wolves… and later they're referred to as shifters, and then there’s the Fenir god concept thrown in. 🤯

There’re also many secondary characters to juggle… Eryx, Phenrys, Sian, Bowen, Zayne, Leif, Ezekial, Enzo, Xariana, Xavier, Chaos, Lucas, Jacob, and Tora are all introduced early, but I never felt like I really knew them. (except Tora & Eryx) There’re random unintroduced characters that drop in like we’re supposed to know who they are like Douglas and Cole Van Helsing. Concepts are thrown around without any background like E.V.I.E. and the hunter’s guild that I had zero reference for. Other characters are name dropped and discussed, again like we know who they are, but we’ve never met or heard from them like Rhys and Remington having a baby, or Hunter, or Ian the King of Vamps. ** Upon further research I think some of the characters come from other books… Xariana- King of the Shadow Fae and Rhy, Remington, Cole-Bulletproof Damsel.

Bottom Line- Ok, not great. For me, there wasn’t enough worldbuilding and development to feel immersed in the story. There were lots of concepts to keep things moving but few connections to generate any real feels. All the drama comes from the h being mistreated, and IMO there needed to be a better balance of the H's love/hate feelings which were almost all hate. There’s OW drama from his crazy ex. He never double dips (per him), but they have been together much of the separation, and he does seem to side with her an awful lot, so I wouldn’t recommend this to strict safety readers. The H & h's story in fairly resolved, but this ends with them (the dudes) going off to help Enzo, so it’s left unsettled.

Random loose ends/inconsistencies - 🛑SPOILERS 🛑
🤔Chaos does not act like he’s 10. Sometimes he offers the adults insight, other times he’s being carried and coddled.
🤔 Why does Leif know so much about the mother? It’s like his character’s only use is to tell us stuff.
🤔Why did Saint smell like Carleigh if he wasn’t having sex with her? Brae even mentions it and all he says is that he hasn’t been with her since he returned. What happened to her? Last we hear she wants to hunt her down, will she be punished now that she tortured a victim?
🤔 I would love details on the mating situation. Birth control is never discussed and clearly you can impregnate outside of a mating. I also needed more on the Cherry situation, she didn’t know she was preggers when he left, so they had been sexing it up recently. Why was he having sex with Cherry if he was falling in love with Brae? It would’ve been cleaner if this part was just removed, it added nothing and added another layer of questions. Also he knocked up Cherry and Brae fairly easily, but never knocked up Carleigh in the 10-years they were together.
🤔 I needed more resolution on the Eryx having feelings for the h situation. If felt weird that he was always lusting, leering wanting to sex up his BFF’s mate.
🤔 How can she survive being burned alive, dissected, digesting razor blades, and being skinned a live, but almost died from being sliced? She regrew body parts but couldn’t heal in the torture chamber. She walks out of it, but then needs vamp blood to survive.
🤔 Why does he call her his mate to the human bartender if humans don't know about them?
🤔 How was the god with the daughter when he just jumped in the mom’s mouth?
🤔She still didn’t claim him, even after they made up. Wasn't that the source of all the angst? How did this never come up again?

I've been wanting to try this author for a while, but now I think she just isn't my cuppa.

I found the story to be a muddle. The characters personalities tended to blend together. If the author didn't say who was talking, I wouldn't be able to hazard a guess. A lot of telling and not showing... er rather showing something different.
I started skimming early and never stopped really.

The author likes to bend logic to force the plot. It's hard to enjoy a tale when the plot holes would make swiss cheese envious. I forget the h's name... B something. Anyways, so B and Saint fall in love as teens. But he doesn't know her nearly as well as he thinks he does. Her dad is the Anti Christ, (well close enough) and she gives Saint the heave ho to save him from daddy dearest.
Daddy dearest (unbeknownst to B) then sells Saint and his friends to some kinda pedophile vampire ring.
SO now both MCs have a sad sack history.
Just when B finally has a plan to bring down Daddy, Saint and his merry band of fuckwits come back to town.

By the way, are paranormal critters supposed to be a secret in this world building???

Anyways, Saint kills Dad and proceeds to make B's life a misery, because since logic isn't allowed in this book, he is not allowed to think before he acts.
I got so GD tired of characters saying one thing and proceeding to do the exact opposite just a page or two later. There is no grovelling by either MC... or anyone for that matter. NOBODY APOLOGIZES TO ANYONE!!!!

Why would I want to read about all the horrible shit done to the characters by the people that are supposed to care about them, if it's all gonna be swept under the carpet???
Rape is a crime, but only against virgins??? wtf? did I read that right? What the Ever Loving FUCK is this shit???

That was not dubcon sex. Yet somehow before he finishes using her, the virgin who has had rape hanging over her head for her entire life and is now being raped by her supposed mate, manages an orgasm.

I just can't. gah!

And why does the author include a by blow of Saints in the story? The OW isn't a part of the story, so why? The story says, "He'd gotten Cherry, his ex-girlfriend, pregnant before our link was cemented". SO does that mean he was seeing Cherry after knowing that B was his mate?? That's all the info the story gives us. And what kind of name is Chaos?

Then after all is revealed, B is adamant that she won't have sex with Saint until she forgives him... or the next page. Either or... no biggy I guess.
ANd what's with that wolf God that supposedly lives in B but is absolutely useless until the end of the story when it finally chooses to manifest and kill a bunch of bad guys. SO now you want to help??? And all the shifters killed by the vampires... what happens to them? Was there a ceremony? Why weren't people sad? Can we not get a little follow through on anything in this book?

Best part of the book is when B and her bestie run away for 3 months.

So basically we have a very muddled plot and characters that all kinda sound the same. Angst for no reason because nothing is ever resolved.
Gonna avoid this author in future.

Safety is for shit.

*** Book Q & A***

* How did the book make you feel?: This book left me pretty disgusted, honestly. Combined with the dark subject matter, the story was just “blah”. I don’t consider myself a prude who shies away from dark themes at all, but this book was not engaging to me. I love the tropes in this book, yet I don’t feel they were well-executed. Hence, I don’t understand all the positive reviews because I feel so let down. Also, WHERE IS THE DISCLAIMER for the disturbing depictions? Furthermore, this is supposedly a shifter romance, but there was little of that aspect since we never saw the characters in their wolf form.

* How do you feel about how the story was told?: This book told instead of showed. We see things from multiple perspectives and we glimpse their feelings and motivations, but there was little conviction and follow-through by the characters.

* What did you think about the main characters?: I felt the main characters were wooden. Though extreme things happened to them both, I felt no emotional connection or sexual tension buildup. There was nothing to make me feel the characters should end up together. I wasn’t rooting for them. I was rooting for the h to escape—which is rare for me! The H did unspeakable things to the h while maintaining a sinister smile. He was constantly smirking, smiling or laughing while the h suffered and we are to believe that because he suddenly realized he was wrong and admitted it that he was redeemable? He even told people not to assume she was guilty without proof despite that he did the exact thing! He never actually used the words “apologize” or “sorry” and there were no grand gestures. There was mention of a diamond necklace she sold to feed her people. He could’ve got that back, but he didn’t. He did nothing. The h told him multiple times she was innocent, to no avail. So disappointing because this book checked all of my favorite tropes!

* Which parts of the book stood out to you?: The barbarisms committed in this book were super-disturbing and this book really should’ve had a trigger warning! It also bothered me that there was no loving sex between the MC’s, only hate sex… or maybe I skipped it because I wasn’t invested by the end?

* What themes/tropes did you detect in the story?:This book had all my favorite tropes—rejected mate, enemies to lovers, revenge, wrongly accused h, mean H… but it was a let-down. 😫

* What did you think about the ending?: HE NEVER LET HER CLAIM HIM. Did the author just forget about that little, hugely important detail!? It was the cause of a big altercation in the book because the h was challenged because the H was unclaimed! I guess it was a HEA, but it wasn’t a fulfilling one and I didn’t feel the H redeemed himself AT ALL. He was being “nice”, but he wasn’t groveling and the h was just like “oh well.”

* What is your impression of the author?: This is the 2nd book I’ve read and I’m not sold on this series at all.

Possible Triggers and Safety: Everything imaginable…. Child exploitation, rape, trafficking, murder mutilation, rape, cheating, dubious consent.. all things I’m fine with, but there should be a disclaimer!

Amelia Hutchins Can Do No Wrong!

I adore Amelia Hutchins. After finishing Legacy of the Nine Realms, I was in a serious book slump and none of the books I read measured up. So I bought this one, dove in, and really liked it! This is classic Amelia with amazing plot, hot as hell s€x scenes, kicka$$ heroine and an alpha-hole that you want to tie to the bed… to set him on fire! 😅

So why not 5 stars? I guess I kept comparing this to LOT9R and it just didn’t measure up. Specifically, the hero, Saint was just not as good as Knox from LOT9R. What I loved about Knox was how jealous and possessive he was! Sure he was an a$$hole, but he drew the line at anyone even LOOKING at Aria. He threatened to kill anyone who dared to touch her and f**k her in a pool of their blood *SWOON* (yes, I know, I have issues 😅).

Saint on the other hand, not only allowed other men to look at Braelyn, but he allowed them to touch and kiss her. I could forgive anything but that! I could understand the hate and his awful treatment of her, but I didn’t understand how he could watch one of his best friends touch and kiss her. I hated that! Aside from that, he was HORRIBLE to her, and although that’s to be expected from an Amelia Hutchins’ novel, I didn’t think he did enough grovelling! I wanted him to beg, plead and crawl on his knees! I wanted Brae to turn him away repeatedly, before he made a big gesture and she finally forgave him. He got off way too easy IMO.

Also, the world building was kind of confusing. This was supposed to be a stand-alone. Even though it’s set in a series, you’re supposed to be able to read each of these books on their own. I felt like I was supposed to know the supporting characters (like Lief, Xavier, Enzo and Ezekiel) from other books, but I didn’t. The epilogue was confusing because Saint leaves to deal with something that happened to Enzo, but I don’t know if Enzo is going to be in a book by Amelia Hutchins, in his own spin off series, or if he’s part of the Kingdom Of Wolf’s world and another author will write his story.

Overall though, great story!

DNF. I couldn’t do it. I tried. I even skipped entire chapters to see if it got better and I couldn’t do it. This book was honestly horrible. It’s not even that it’s dark, don’t get me wrong, it’s dark, but the hero is unredeemable in my eyes and I couldn’t stand him. There is literally nothing that works in that book. Good lord.

One star because honestly I deserve to rate this book for reading as much as I did.

The one time I impulse buy without reading reviews and that'll teach me 😭😭😂😂

I don't even know how to unpack this mess of a story to be honest. Torture porn, a "hero" who is so dumb my brain hurt trying to even understand his rationale for anything and characters that were so OTT, saying and doing things that didn't make a lick of sense given the situation.

I had to stop reading this at about 30% because it was ridiculous and started reading reviews and sure enough nothing got better. I then skimmed to the end and it got even sillier. No one knows how to grovel or apologise for the absolutely heinous stuff they did to the h. It's all kind of swept under the carpet as a "lol, whoops! We read that situation wrong didn't we? Haha oh well! Live and learn"

Generally I adore Amelia. Her Fighting Destiny, Monsters, and 9Realms are some of my favorites, so I was really surprised when I did not really like this one that much. I think it had a lot to do with the fact that it didn't feel finished somehow. I think one of Amelia's strengths is her ability to create these really interesting and unique worlds, but somehow that didn't translate to this book. I still don't really understand how the wolf aspect in this world works. Does Saint have a wolf? If he does, does he shift?Plus his entire treatment of Braelyn doesn't make sense either. I get he was abused and traumatized, and he has a total right to be upset with her, but the extent of his anger towards her feels really unjustified as he has zero proof she actually did anything. In fact they are supposed to be fated mates, so you would think he would give her the benefit of the doubt at the very least, but his complete dismissal detracts from their fated bond. Hence, their love doesn't feel believable. The storyline seemed very reminiscent of that of Aria and Knox, just not nearly as good or sensical. Then to make it worse, after all the shit Saint puts her through, she forgives him in zero seconds at all. You would think he'd have to prove himself to her after all of it, but he really doesn't, so then it just really didn't make sense. Anyways-I really wanted to like this book- I was so excited for Amelia's take on shifters, but I was just disappointed. I'm excited for her other books especially Crown of Chaos because that series gives me lifeeeee.

‘Alpha’s Claim’ by Amelia Hutchins. This is a standalone in a shared universe created by a group of authors.

A small disclaimer, there may be triggers in this book as is stated in the beginning. So if you are looking for rainbows, unicorns, and fairies this isn’t the book for you. You’ve been warned... but if you are familiar with Ms Hutchins’ work then know you are going to get a mean, sexy alphahole, a strong, bada**, kicka** heroine with exceptional side characters.

Braelyn has given up literally everything for her pack. Ever since her mother died she has done whatever it takes to care for her pack, not because she’s the Alphas daughter and it’s expected, but because if she doesn’t no one else will. Her father is an evil, cruel and nasty man, but no one knows just how horrible he really is. 10 years ago Brae’s father made her lie and reject her True Mate in front of the pack, well just as he promised Saint is back. But he isn’t back for Brae’s heart, no he is back to take everything away from her and to destroy her like she did to him.

I just want to say wow, holy freaking WOW!!! Seriously Ms Hutchins you are the Queen when it comes to pulling heart strings. This book is an emotional roller coaster, so many times I had to put the book down to take a breather. On several occasions I thought about ordering some voodoo dolls and looking at becoming a Voodoo Priestess. You really out did yourself with this book. So much turmoil, heartache, betrayal, angst, but it made the ending all that much sweeter.

Braelyn is seriously my female crush, her heart was so pure and honest. She was so strong, never falling down and allowing anyone to walk all over her. Even in her darkest and gloomiest of moments she kept her head up, shoulders back. Kicking a** and never worrying about taking names.

Saint, oh what can I say about this male. Starters he is a type one Ahole. He has been gone for ten years with one things on his mind... revenge. But the d*ck was so stuck in his way that he almost destroyed everything. There is probably, who am I kidding there is definitely going to be haters of him. He storms in and reeks havoc.

Once again we are giving remarkable and noteworthy secondary characters that will have you wanting more from them.

To wrap this up, all I can say is stop whatever it is you are doing right now. Call in sick to work, hire a nanny, temporary leave the husband/wife, book a hotel room, I don’t care what you do. But find a quiet spot, grab chocolate, tissues, fluids (hard stuff if you have any) and read this book NOW!!!

First of all. I loved The Fae Chronicles and Ryder and Synthia.

I read 47% of Alpha’s Claim and because I forced myself but I’ve been really struggling from the beginning. I’m totall okay with the warning in the book but that’s not what I didn’t like. I honestly don’t know what to make of this book. It looks like it’s been rushed and not planned at all. I guess it’s not the case but the impression after reading half of the book is that the author is making things up as long as she’s writing and without a plan. Pretty rushed.

1. The characters: the main male character, Saint doesn’t know what he wants, he says and does one thing and the next moment just the opposite. He’s all the time wanting to hurt Braelyn and not wanting to hurt her, letting others touch her and make her suffer but again saying that none should touch her. It’s ridiculous.

They are fated mates and loved each other and she says several times she was trying to protect him but he’s just reapeating like a parrot his hathred speech and not listening a word she says. It’s like a robot that has been given and order and can’t think for himself.

And the shifters that come back with Saint are supposed to be traumatized after everything they’ve been through but looks like they’re just mad. They make jokes to each other or talk lively about having sex with each other like their previous experiences haven’t meant anything. They should be beyond traumatized, phisically, psychologically, and mentally but not, they’re just angry.

Oh, and Braelyn friends after living with her for years, just in one second turned against her for something Saint says without wondering or talking to her. WTH???

2. The scenes: it seems like there’re senceces or missing paragraphs, I mean, there’s such a bad development, how they go to one place to another without a transition or a short explication. And what is that scene where they are all gathered having dinner and all of a sudden someone is having a baby and nobody seems to be noticing anything but Braelyn?!

3 The plot: it’s lame and there’s barely one besides hurting Braelyn. That it’s okay if it’s justified but honestly, it’s not. It seems just for the sake of it.

This book is a Dark Fantasy Rejected Mate book. It is a standalone book. There are triggers. It contains adult language and themes, stories of abuse, and some graphic violence. I want to start off by saying that Dark theme books are not for everyone. You either like them or you don't. I personally love Dark violent books but that is me.

Amelia Hutchins is one of my favorite authors. I haven not read anything of her that I haven't liked. That being said this book for me was amazing. It was fast paced. Started with action from the first chapter and just continued to keep me intrigued the entire book. The story was different. It had angst, action, alpha-holes, strong Female main character, and great story that made me feel a lot of emotions. Not to mention the steam.🔥🔥🔥🥵

The story summary is that Braelyn Rejected her mate Saint 10 years prior because her dad made some threats and she wanted to save Saints life. Saint is now back and wants revenge. Saint is also back uncover some other things that he believes is going and stop all who are responsible. I don't want to say anything more than that for fear of spoilers. Saint and his crew are Alpha-holes. This series is packed with things that you need to uncover.

I you happen to like adult books that have lots of steam and Dark themed storylines and you don't have a weak stomach for violence or any triggers. Then I think this book is a fantastic read. I know I couldn't put it down.

So so good!

This book put me THROUGH it, so many emotions and thoughts and feelings.

Smexy Saint? Dude... I wanted to slap and kiss him 😈

Brave Brae? This gril is STRONG 👏 so so strong.

Can I just say, I appreciate so much that Amelia just gets to it straight away..
No waiting for anything to happen, no awkward bathroom mirror hair colour check.. just BOOM! And we're hit straight away with the story and I love it.

I was legit, so anxious about what was going to happen next, waiting for things to come to light, wondering how far a dude can take his revenge, but no matter what, Brae never let a anyone bring her down. Side characters added some extra sauce and it was fabulous!! Each of them have a piece of my heart ❤

This book is spicy, heartbreaking, book throwing, open mouth gasping, slightly disturbing, love bringing, action fighting, character rooting, head shaking, go girl fist pumping, blink if you read it right reading, I will cut a bish seething and as always, so god damn freaking good.

This book filled my little dark heart and I was fed very well!

Amelia once again, you made me feel everything, and Alpha's Claim was everything I hoped it would be and so much more!

2 stars. This is not a book for the faint heart. Well pretty much all Amelia’s book aren’t for the faint heart, and she’ve warned off repeatedly. If you’re looking for HEA and typical possessive hero, this is NOT the author for you. It’s dark, violent, gruesome, gory, bloody.

But what I love about Amelia’s book is that her heroine always stand up with her inner strength no matter what curveball life threw at her, and her resilient is admirable. Is the book perfect? No. It’s too predictable once you’ve read a few of Amelia’s book. But if there’s one thing you can learn from her book, is that to never give up hope, never give up life and always stand up for yourself. Be strong, no matter how rough the sea, ride on every wave and sail through life. And this alone deserves recognition.

And that’s the main reason I kept reading Amelia’s book, the fighting spirit, strength and resilient she promote in her book’s character. Albeit messy, plot details underdeveloped and the repetitive dialogues, it never failed to astonished me on how fucking strong the heroine stand up for herself.

If you love very dark romance, strong heroine, alpha-hole that you wanted to kill in every turn, then this book is perfect for you. But would I personally recommend this book? Absolutely no, don’t waste your time, it’s not worth it.

P.s:// For those who have read Legacy of Nine Realms, the story concept is very similar. The misunderstanding, revenge, push pull factor and the unnecessary angst are the same, just the short compact version of it.

Oh. My. God. I love Braelyn (FMC)! (at least until the end -read the spoiler if you want to know why) She’s a badass and those men don’t deserve her! She endured so much and all for the sake of everyone she loved and those assholes didn’t even have her back! Except Tora. She escapes my ire because she’s the bestest friend anyone could ask for.

Ok. Now that that’s off my chest, we’re getting into some pretty heavy spoilers. But if you don’t want to read that, know there are some pretty heavy descriptions of gore and torture. If those are triggering, don’t read.

I would love for the author to flush out the ending more because that might change it from 4 stars to 5. And it was 5 stars until I got to the end.

This book was...intense. It was very well written and keeps readers on their toes!
I want to say I enjoyed every second, but that would be a lie. This book has many twisted and dark themes that may be triggers to some. I absolutely enjoyed the story, but I did hate everything the characters had to go through.
On the plus side, Brae was an incredibly strong character. She didn't just forgive and forget like most heroines do in so many stories. I absolutely loved that about her! But I am also glad she got her HEA. She deserved it.
Unfortunately, I hated that Carleigh seemed to only get a slap on the wrist for what she did. It doesn't matter what she went through, it does not justify her actions. She played the same role of her captors on someone innocent and ended up with nothing but a warning. After the truth was told, readers don't get the opportunity to see her grovel or ask for forgiveness. That was probably my only issue with the story.
Other than that, the story was so good. I do wish to see a HEA for Eryx! I think I preferred him over Saint. Or, it would have been even better if both got to keep Brae! Hm, but unfortunately that didn't happen so I will be keeping my eyes open for anything else coming from this world.
This is definitely a story to check out!

Alpha's Claim is a must OWN! Gave me FEELS!Amelia Hutchins has done it again. Saint is your typical drool-worthy/wounded, beyond angered, yet devious between the sheets bad boy Alpha! His past with Braelyn is absolutely heartbreaking 💔 Braelyn, is a fierce, resilient, and incredible Heroine who has had to face challenges and daily deceptions while struggling to remain devoted to her path... I devoured this book and Loved Every Moment!

Dark

I really can't get into too much because I don't want to spoil it for anyone.

Saint and Brae are true mates. Please beware there's a lot of darkness in this book. I also believe Brae forgave Saint way to easily. I also felt like a couple things were left unsaid. Like did she ever mark Saint? Also if she was able to release her power towards the end why couldn't Fenir help her earlier with her sick a$$ father?

Another amazing read!

What a hot, fast paced, anxiety inducing and heart racing read, one I didn't want to put down at all. I am still reeling from the soul shattering and heart breaking story of Brae & Saint..oh how I felt all those emotions ripping my heart out on more than one occasion.😭😭😭😭😭😭

The storyline is gripping from the very start and 🔥🔥🥵🥵! As the story unfolds, hints are dropped, motives are revealed and it becomes somewhat of a mystery.

Braelyn is one hell of a strong woman, such a badass warrior looking after her pack. Love the way Brae pulls the rug from under Saint's and her smart ass retorts/comeback.

Fair warning this book isn't for the faint hearted, heed the author's warning. It is a dark romance with some dark themes which some readers might find it hard to digest but it ends with a HEA.

Another masterpiece!

I am one of those readers where I buy an Amelia book then it's like a magnet to my brain. It's like that Cheetos commercial where she's hiding in a broom closet with her golden fingers saying, " wasn't me" I hid in the girls bathroom several times to get through a chapter. I hid my reader under my patient charts, every break I hid in the supply room and my lunch, I snarfed down a Sammy to go outside to read. I was an hour late getting home because I sat in my jeep to read through another chapter. I wanted to go through the screen so bad and smack the last brain cells from Saint and her pack!

I loved meeting new characters in this book and I can't wait to read their stories through Amelia's eyes.

But this book. It will NOT disappoint!

Her books never disappoint.

I absolutely love entering Amelia Hutchin’s crazy imagination and watching her unique characters unfold.

*** Be aware there are always trigger warnings in her books so I suggest that if your sensibilities are delicate in nature — heed the warnings...and don’t be that person to leave a negative review because you failed to do so. Be Cool. ***

Her writing style immediately draws you into whatever new world she dreamt up to wow us readers — the angst, the enemies-to-lovers, the alpha-holes, strong heroines — have been perfected in her books. And I am HERE for it!

I am not going to leave spoilers, just know that there are no cliffhangers for this book - so if you enjoy a good shifter rejected mate book, you’ll love this book.

Of course Amelia Hutchins wins again with this one! Of course!!!

I absolutely could not put this book down and read it in one sitting. It was such a page-turner and I was totally lost in the story.

The main thing I love about Amelia's books and all of her characters is that they are all unapologetically raw and dark. She goes to the absolute limits with all of her characters and just when you feel like your heart is being ripped out of your chest, she soothes it for a while and then, without notice, rips your heart out of your body, leaving you breathless and confused. And wanting more!!!

Loved this read and can't wait for more!

Damn! This book made me laugh, cry and want to smack the shit out of saint. And then grab him by the face and kiss him too. So much has happened to brealyn and she stood her ground to be strong. I loved these characters and this story. I'm glad it was a stand alone cause I don't think my soul could take a cliffhanger from these guys!! Amelia Hutchins has made an epic story and I can't wait for more! Cause there's gonna be. When? I have no clue but I will pre order that as soon as I hear I can pre order it.
