The author, Valerie S. Elkins––a professional genealogist, created the 31 Days to Become UnforgettableMethodafter being frustrated by her own efforts to learn who her ancestors were as people. She wanted to know more than just their names, dates, and places that were found in records. A lifelong journaler, the author realized that the journals she had been writing over the years, did not leave the information about her, that she craved to know about her own ancestors.
Fueled by the desire to leave a meaningful legacy for her descendants, she developed an easy-to-follow method that makes journal writing more than just a place to vent or to ramble on about daily events.

Valerie and her family live in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, with their rescued, half-blind Pitbull, who was saved from being a bait dog in a dogfighting ring. Their latest rescue is a longhaired kitten named Mayhem, who definitely lives up to her name.

Many books have a series of things to do, of exercises, of tasks. Most of the time I read through and do a few of the exercises at the front of the book. This time I got excited. On day 2 I jumped out of bed an hour early to work on it. I went through my journal and discovered that I've attended several classes by Valerie S. Elkins.
I was stuck for a while on the first 3 days. Those first three days set the background & are thus important. I am moving forward again now. Instead of days think of them as time periods as in the creation in the book of Genesis.
I have never been one who wrote in my journal on a regular basis. With that, I was hoping this book would give me the initiative to change my ways. Daily writing was something I never did and still don't but, I liked Valerie's many ideas. I liked writing about likes and dislikes. Also, talents and pet peeves. I can see how applying the suggestions is very positive. I highly recommend this book.
