The Journey Towards Calm is a poetry collection from Anusha Sridharan which touches upon a various amount of topics including personal transformation, hope, happiness, despair, chaos, recursive self-doubt, healing, and can be considered philosophical.

My favourite poem would be Return Was Mandatory because of its inspiring and motivational words in which Sridharan states, ‘all one needs to do is keep going on,’ this poems a reminder to truly keep going at your goals and your self- and it’s a beautifully impressive way to show us that one must continue, as long as you don’t give up on yourself. Also the poem I Reside In The Present, which is about how one should change, where she states, ‘for every change calls for a transformation, and I shall live unto one,’ was something very profound and is an intrinsic, universal lesson all should learn. Throughout the collection it is evident that Sridharan has a flair and talent for rhyming and giving poems a deep thought-provoking meaning.

Also another standout poem is Wait Is The Key which is about how one should be patient in which she states, ‘wait for the recollection, wait for the remembrance, wait for the right time, because wait is the key.’ Sridharan beautifully and masterfully ends the collection with a poem about there being more to peoples character especially your own, titled There’s More To You.

For the majority of the poems in this I collection I actually had to stop for a second because I was getting overwhelmed by the sincere sentiment of the poems and its descriptions. Also in the collection there is a sense of universal relatability in her poems, that makes it more inviting for the reader to enjoy the poetry. Louise’s immaculate writing style allows the poem to speaks to your soul and heart. Sridharan uniquely presents her pieces and it seems these poems are written from a deeply personal place and it shows. Throughout the collection, Sridharan utilises couplets, tercets, quatrains and many more poetic structures which makes reading Sridharan’s work more richer and engaging. I believe this should be a collection taught at schools because of its essential values.

Overall, The Journey Towards Calm is a beautiful piece of poetry and Sridharan should be greatly commended for her efforts. Well done Anusha!

Once again I ventured into the poetry of Anusha Sridharan, which is totally unlike the poetry which I write myself, but fascinating to me nevertheless.

The emphasis of these poems is on the insecurity of the inner self; the need to maintain the integrity of the self, trying to be strong when scared in the face of a selfish world (‘Everything Before Nothing’), or the ‘pondering’ and ‘introspection’ of ‘troublesome mistakes’ (‘Re-Insert Past’). The self has ‘worries’, is ‘unprepared’ and ‘clueless’, because ‘Future is Never in Control’. The ‘wars you fight with your inner self’ are the focus here, in ‘times which are unreliable’ (‘Misunderstood in Presence’). The need for ‘choice’ and ‘definition’ are stressed, ‘to bring your questions, the answers they need’ (‘Odds to Possibility’). Lessons have to be ‘taught’, and ‘Mistakes made are to teach’ (‘Granular Faith’, ‘All is Forgiven’. The ‘chance to validate, one’s own feelings’ lead to one being ‘more self-aware’ (‘Distances Fonder’). Through a string of poems Sridharan explores this theme, bringing them to the conclusion that ‘there is dawn to come, and for you to see the light’ (‘There’s More To You’).

I have merely lifted quotations from a few of the poems here to give a general impression of what is sought; the whole collection need to be read to appreciate the beauty of the message given. I shall return to re-read this collection, the human insecurities which it addresses and the suggestions it makes to come to terms with these. A beautiful collection.

I recently read this book and honestly it was calming and comforting. The author beautifully captures the struggle we often face in finding peace amidst chaos. The way she weaves words to describe the journey from self-doubt to healing is both poignant and relatable.

One of my most favorite poem from this book is, 'Faded but Not Gone'. It speaks of the layers of perception we carry and how they can distort our true selves. The imagery used is powerful and thought-provoking.

Another one, 'End is to Discharge' offers a unique perspective on endings. It reminds us that an end is not final, but rather a step towards renewal and new beginnings. This poem left me feeling inspired and hopeful.

'Wait is the Key' is a gentle reminder that patience is a virtue. It beautifully conveys that waiting is not a delay, but a necessary part of life's journey. This poem encourages us to trust in the timing of things.

'Hands Tied' is a powerful reflection on feeling trapped and the need to let go. It resonated with me on a personal level, as it speaks to the struggle of breaking free from what holds us back. The imagery of the weakening rope is particularly striking.

'The Journey Towards Calm' is a collection of poems that speaks to the heart. Anusha Sridharan's ability to convey complex emotions in such a relatable way is truly commendable. I found solace and wisdom within these pages, and I highly recommend this book to anyone on their own journey towards calm.
