About the author

Dr. Catherine Ponder is a minister and founder of Unity Church Worldwide, affiliated with the Unity Church, and author of several New Thought books focused mainly on the theme of prosperity.

In 1956, Ponder received her B.S. in Education from the Unity Ministerial School. In 1958, she was ordained as a Unity Church minister. She began ministering in Birmingham, Alabama. She moved to other cities to found ministries: in 1961, in Austin TX, in 1969, in San Antonio TX, and in 1973, in Palm Desert CA, where she remains minister.

Well written and interesting. Don't let the word prayer and the Biblical references decisive you. It's about affirmations, meditation and law off attraction and many other new age/ spiritual concepts. The only problem with this book is that the author is a minister so she twisted the names of these concepts in a way that they sound religious, like prayer of affirmation instead of affirmation and so on. Therefor readers who follow other ideologies or have other believes might , rightfully, feel that they are not her selected audience. Still this problem can be easily solved by ignoring the religious stuff, and thinking of God as source energy or the universe or all that is.

I am not sure what to say about this book. First, the audiobook is ok, but the speaker has moments of mispronouncing names, etc. I was turned off by the number of times she referenced her other books.
The book talks about different ways to pray: sitting in prayerful silence, repeative pray, etc. It gives testimonials as well. There was just something about the book that couldn't really grab my attention.

The title of the book is not what you may think. The book covers prayer from the perspective of how different types of prayer can be used to enrich one’s life.

The coverage of the topic of prayer is insightful and educational but like all Catherine Ponder books, you have to weigh through a good deal of anecdotal evidence attributed to housewives and businessmen that leave you wondering if the stories are true or made up. It may be a stylistic criticism based on the time in which the book was written.

If you can get past the above criticism, it’s a pretty good book. It’s not for everyone, but I did come away with a better understanding of prayer and how it works from the author’s perspective.

A Negro Maid! She mentions in her introduction 🤔

After reading the introduction of this book there was no way I could move forward. She gives credit to her prayer partners, one of them being a negro maid. This book is too behind in times for me to continue no way!
