Escaping from the clutches of an evil organization didn’t mean peace and quiet for Maximus. The hybrid supersoldier has spent his time hunting those seeking to exploit and imprison his kind. He has little hope for the future as a final manipulation might leave him unable to find his destined mate. The only thing left is to throw himself into the mission.
Hope is where you find it.
Selena’s big plans to turbocharge her production assistant career backfire spectacularly when some local bureaucrats in Hawaii decide to make her simple attempt to get permits painful. Desperate to keep her job, she digs into their reluctance and stumbles into something far more sinister.
It’s time to make a choice.
When Maximus and Selena cross paths, he’s instantly drawn to her, but attraction isn’t the same thing as her being his destined mate. There’s little time to consider romance when bullets start flying. Now they’ll both have to put their lives on the line against a dangerous and ruthless enemy.
Madison currently lives with her husband and two children in the Valley of the Sun. Phoenix, Arizona. After leaving the frozen tundra of the north, Madison was more surprised than anyone with how much she has enjoyed living in the desert. Seeing as she had stated on more than one occasion how much she hated the heat, it was an odd move. But it seemed her hatred for sub-zero temps and ice, or really the things that ice could do, won out in the end. When she’s not writing, she’s enjoying time with her family. Madison and her family frequent festivals in the area, as well as local cultural events, and spend time with family in the area. In the summer she is most likely to be found in the pool with the family and in the winter by the fireplace. Since both her children are autistic, days can be a little chaotic but with her husband beside her, there’s nothing she can’t handle. Luckily he is also an author and able to share in all the activities (and chores) special needs kids require. Madison has a full schedule of releases planned for 2014 listed and updated on her blog: http://madisonstevens.blogspot.com/ Newsletter Sign-up: http://eepurl.com/OX9r5
What a phenomenal beginning to a brand new spinoff. These two authors have taken the genetically engineered hybrids in a new direction and it’s absolutely amazing. The characters are fantastic with an underlying vulnerability because of their new circumstances. And the authors couldn’t have picked a better match for Maximus, the feisty red head has her own way of doing things and is not afraid of danger. I love the differences between alpha squad and the rest of the hybrids, and the way they still interact with the Luna Lodge group, but will certainly stand on their own. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series to see what surprises are in store for us next.
I have been utterly spoiled by New Species, so when I see a book about government made hybrids, I keep my expectations low. Hardly ever am I proven wrong. Case in point this book. New to me author but as I got into chapter 1 I could tell that I had seen her books before but again - New Species. Little did I know that this is a spinoff that series she has and that too much of chapter 1 and thereafter is in reference to that series so basically it's not a stand alone. Fine. It's a DNF for me at the 15% mark because OMG JUST SHUT UP ALREADY !!!
I don't know what this writing style is, but I do know, it's not for me. Here's an example - the hybrids are in a room and Maximus starts thinking about something, but the author basically takes over and starts going on tangents and musings and info dumping like crazy, something like "CJ was the youngest, he was this and this and that, and he blah blah blah" and then goes off talking about CJ. Then it's like she remembers she's writing this scene, comes back, has the MC say idk, some quick sentence, and then she's off again. Holy shit, can we reel it back and stick to the moment please? Ugh, I hate it here. Yeah no.
"Hybrids might have superhuman abilities, but they weren’t superheroes."
Maximus is a leader determined to help his men make their way forward in a challenging world the best way possible... but the inconvenient truth is, on some important personal levels, he may be on the verge of losing hope.
Selena works with two grade-A make you want to punch them jerks, but she's determined to do her job, professionally, to the best of her ability... even when that means going above and beyond.
This done in one Kindle Unlimited quick read stands alone, but is clearly setting up an overarching arc, which fits with the two previous Luna Lodge series. Reading the other series definitely gives an understanding of the world, but isn't necessary before starting these very accessible story which takes one of the hybrids hallmark features... and tosses a monkey wrench into the works for Maximum and the rest of Alpha Squad.
This new series is as awesome as its predecessors! The characters, the setting, the loss of ability to smell Vestals, well come together to tell an exciting story!
