When her childhood best friend turns up alive years after her supposed death, Cori is elated. It doesn’t take long for her to realize that Rhea isn’t quite the same person—or werewolf—she was though. When the body count starts rising and all the evidence points to her friend, Cori’s forced to take a second look at the woman who was like a sister to her. Fortunately, Noelle Flynn, a witch from Keyhole Lake, Georgia, happens to be vacationing there and may be just the witch Cori needs to solve the murders … and hopefully absolve her friend before Rhea is sentenced to death. The only problem is that Cori isn't so sure her friend is innocent.
This is Book 4 in the Cori Sloane, Witchy Werewolf Cozy Mysteries series. If you like murder, magic, and laugh-out-loud southern humor, then this is the series for you!
I was born and raised in the South and even hung my motorcycle helmet in Colorado for a few months. I've always had a touch of wanderlust and have never feared just packing up and going on new adventures, whether in real life or via the pages of a great book.
When I was a little girl, I didn't want to grow up to be a writer—I wanted to raise unicorns and be a superhero. When those gigs fell through, I chose the next best thing: creating my own magical lands filled with adventure, magic, humor, and romance.
I live in Florida with my two dogs and when I'm not writing or reading, I'm racing motorcycles with my taller, more handsome half, hanging out at the beach, or binge-watching anything magical on Netflix.
I'm eternally grateful for all the people who help make my life what is today - friends, readers, family. No woman is an island.

I love Corie and Alex and her friends. A beloved member of the community is found dead and it’s up to Corie to figure it out. She also sees a face from the past that shouldn’t be. It’s fun and a great mystery.
A good read but after finishing it is must admit that I ended up feeling a bit flat. The plot was okay as far as it went but there didn't seem to be too much emotion or feeling in it. Okay it was an investigation into the death of the maid at the B&B but the story rather coasted on that one and made a lot on the fact that her BFF (who apparently died some years ago) was alive and kicking. Well as alive and kicking as a vampire can get. The characters too seemed to be more subtle. Even Chaos has no real bite to her. Sorry but this read is for me disappointing. Not sure what I expected but it wasn't this.
As usual, inconsistencies abound in this authors' books.
1 - In one book, Cori states that she only carries a backpack because purses are inconvenient. Then in this book, Cori hangs her PURSE on the hook at the bar.
2 - Rhea was her high school best friend and died 5 years ago at 21. Which would make her 26 and Cori also 26. Yet, in the very first book the author stated that Cori is closer to 30 (31 I think).
3 - The author can't make up her mind if Cori is 1/2 witch and 1/2 werewolf. Her explanation was lame. The mother was a witch bitten by a werewolf. That makes her a witch that happens to be a werewolf. Not some sort of hybrid, I'm not even sure why this is confusing. Same with Cori, she is whatever her dominant side is (a werewolf) who happens to be a witch. This whole things with the werewolf magic interfering with the witch magic except for the crystal she wears is silly. What if the crystal gets ripped off her neck? I've never been a fan of these "hybrids", I see them as ridiculous and lazy story telling. Why can't they just be something that happens to be something else and not 1/2 of this and 1/4 of that and a 1/4 of that?
If an author is going to write so many books that she loses track of the threads, then perhaps using a spreadsheet to keep things straight would help. When there are readers like me who will binge read every single book in a series in a row, stuff like this is glaringly obvious.
Also PROOFREAD! For the love of everything holy, PROOFREAD your books!
The mystery itself was weak. The characters did no detective work and you could see the ending coming from the second the character involved was introduced.
The whole fan girling over the UBER POWERFUL Noelle Flynn had me rolling my eyes so much that I was afraid I was going to give myself a seizure. Yes, yes, she's all kinds of awesome and powerful...but really?!?! Way to knee cap the powerful female character in this book (Cori) and turn her into a simpering idiot. Clearly, the Flynn books are the author's favorite and maybe she should stick to them instead of destroying the strong character she created in this book.
If you haven't noticed yet, I am completely addicted to these books!!! It's been a while since I have read 4 books in 4 days!! These books are worth it, though! Why then did I only give 4 stars to this book while I have given 5 to the previous three? Well, the answer is quite simple: While I loved the book, it felt a bit rushed. In my opinion, Tegan Maher tried to pack too much into too few pages. A friend that died returned from the dead and a group of crossover characters makes an appearance and ends up helping in the case. Unfortunately, their appearance is somewhat superficial and I wish they had made more of a connection. The whole situation with Rhea is also somewhat rushed. My main pet peeve, though, is a timeline error. In Book 1, Zach returns to town after 12 years, when he left for a job and asked Cori to go with her, which her parents refused due to pack duties and because they don't want a human and werewolf to mix. In THIS book, though, Rhea died 5 years ago, when she was 21. That doesn't add up at all. They grew up together and they were best friends growing up together, how do the 12 years of Book 1 fit with the 5 of Book 4? They don't.
Cori lost her best friend in an automobile accident five years ago so imagine her amazement when she spots her driving through town in a silly red sports car. That's not all, there's been a suspicious death at the local B & B and one of the guests happens to be Noelle Flynn the star of the Witches for Keyhole Lake series. She's having a break with her partner Hunter along with good friends Coralee and Buddy and just happens to see who may be responsible for the death, or at least her post-living Aunt Adelle saw it. Turns out who Adelle saw was Cori's friend Rhea, finding out Rhea's alive and never told her is one but arresting her for murder Cori doesn't want to think she could be built but why is The lying to her if she has nothing to hide. All the old characters and some new surprise visitors I love crossover books so this ticked all the boxes for me. This series is really starting to hit it's stride now it's a few books in.
Back to the magical town of Castle's Bluff, this time with a bonus - this one's a cross-over with Noelle from the author's Keyhole Lake series - yay! This book grabs you from the start - while on her way home, Cori sees her best friend driving down a back road - but that's impossible as her friend died five years ago in a traffic accident. Before she can catch her, Cori's called to the scene of a death in town - a well liked local maid at an inn. Two unrelated incidents? Not in Cori's world! I very much enjoyed getting to the bottom of this one - the story is well written and I never guessed the culprit nor did I see any way to explain Cori's sighting of her deceased friend - but the author does a great job twisting and turning the story until it all comes together. Great job and a book that I would recommend reading for those cozy mystery fans!
Congratulations, Tegan: you finally made me cry. Sheriff Cori Sloane is half werewolf, half witch, and all bad ass. Her best friend, Rhea, was killed in a car accident five years ago, leaving Cori heart broken. So imagine Cori’s shock when she sees her best friend driving a Caddy convertible. How is that possible? Sean Castle, you got some ‘splaning to do! And if that weren’t enough, Cori has another murder on her hands.
To top it all off, part of the gang from Keyhole Lake makes a guest appearance. So what are you waiting for? Buy the book and get reading!
These are quick and easy reads. This particular one did have a bit of a crossover with the Keyhole Lake series primary characters. More conversations than any actual joint actions. Overall, the book didn't really move the dial too much. We are introduced (briefly) to an old (supposedly dead) best friend of Cori's. The potential for her to be involved in the murder investigation is pretty large. Cori and Alex do their thing but there isn't a ton of investigation really. The actual murderer admits to everything without an arrest. There continue to be some editing issues - which frankly I have found in most of the Maher series.

I'd out this book off till I caught up in the Keyhole Lake series since it was a crossover, just in case. It did have some comments about book 9 so that worked out but not as much of Noelle and Hunter (also had Coralee and Buddy with some pop ins by Addy) as I was expecting as a crossover, but cool non the less.
Interesting mystery and a couple small side mysteries blended in with the investigation. I enjoyed it. Recommended series and author.
This story and series has made me realize why I fell in love with this murder mysteries! I really get engrossed with an excellent whodunnit that keeps me guessing, especially when all of the suspects have plenty of motive! Add the supernatural and paranormal into the mix and things really spice up! Especially when the characters are as enjoyable as they are!
In true Cori fashion, solving a murder is never easy. She has witnesses with fake IDs, her friend that she thought was dead is alive, and she has a visiting witch that does not initially appreciate Cori's mind probe. As suspects come in and albis are confirmed, Cori needs her friends to help shuffle it all out. I loved the twists and turns and not finding out until the end.
I loved this book! Cori is always a fun read and Noelle, Hunter, Coralee, and Buddy from Keyhole Lake are vacationing in town too! I loved seeing some of my favorites from Keyhole Lake in Castle Bluff. The mystery was done really well, as usual, with a lot of different things going on that will have you guessing right up to the end.
I enjoyed the book, and other of Ms Maher's offerings. However, the editing leaves something to be desired. There were a number of continuity errors and misspellings (beyond the intentional dialect use).
This book fell somewhat flat at the end because the culprit just popped up and, more or less, confessed. How much nicer if the protagonists actually solved the case.
It was so fun to see Cori meet Noelle (Keyhole Lake series). Maher always writes a very good mystery. In this book, we learn a little more about Cori's family. Alex is such a patient and loving man. The characters are very likeable in this series. I plan to read the next one as soon as it comes out.
I Loved that this had Noelle, Hunter, Coralee, & Buddy from the Witches of Keyhole Lake.series she writes. They blended well with the characters from this series. Fast paced & a quick read. I recommend this book of you're a fan of the series.
This fast paced, action filled urban fantasy cozy mystery series has really hooked me. I’m enjoying the unfolding romance between Alex and Cori, the friendships between Sean, Sully, Sam, Mrs, E, Kat and Cori. Heck, I’m even waiting on tender hooks to see whether Zach will remember. So much fun.
Cori and Alex meet Noelle. Hunter , Coralee and Buddy at Kitty's B & B where of course there is a death to be solved. The is are others at the B & B as well. There are a few surprises along the was as well. I really loved this book and hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
A great cozy mystery/urban fantasy supernatural series. A half werewolf half which female sheriff in a town full of humans and supernaturals. Werewolves witches vampires etc. Follow along as they solve murders mysteries and Mayham. Wildly entertaining. Check it out
Great crossover book with Noelle, Hunter, Coralee and Buddy from Witches of Keyhole Lake and Cori Sloane! The Keyhole Lake group and Sean help Cori find a murderer. Book is well written and full of surprises! I am becoming a big fan of Tegan Maher!
Brilliant, a great supernatural mystery. Cori, Sam and Alex have to solve a couple of mysteries. Who are the couple with the fake id? Who was the murderer of a woman everyone liked? I do hope there will be more of these books.
I hope more books are going to be written with Cori Sloane. I really enjoy reading this book and series. The book was really entertaining and enjoyable to read. I recommend this book and series to all my friends and family members. Happy Reading!
OMG, this is the book I've been waiting for and the whole reason why I started this series...and it did not disappoint!! It has some great twists and turns that keep you guessing throughout the whole story. I guarantee you won't be disappointed!
