What a great start to a new series! Human trafficking, a one woman rescuer, and a vigilante family...I gobbled this one up in time!!
Sterling (Star) Parson was a prickly pear. She was difficult to get to know, making it very interesting peeling back all her layers! She was a tough nut to crack and definitely a survivor, but she was also a protector with a battered heart.
What to say about Cade McKenzie...hmmm, I pretty much loved the guy:) He was a tad over the top on abilities, but his protective attitude and the way he nurtured Sterling and coaxed her out of her shell-heart melting!
Cade and Sterling had fantastic chemistry! When she had her hackles up and was giving him a ton of grief-haha-I loved their battle of wills. All that heat scorched across the pages like nobody’s business and oh boy! Combustion!!!
I loved the McKenzies. They were a wonderful cast of supportive characters. Dad was like a military general and sister-Madison-the techie. His brother, Reyes...so he’s kind a a horn dog, but has a heart of gold and I’m anticipating his book like you wouldn’t believe!

3.5 just what I needed stars
Yesterday was one of those days where I had a lot going on, and need just a good ole suspense-ish romance to get me through the day. I wasn't in the mood for drama and angst. I wasn't in the mood for comedy. I just need something that would be easy, but still keep my attention.
Lori Foster is always perfect for that mood. Her writing is always on-point, keeps you pulled in, but doesn't mess with your emotions.
Sterling (aka Star, aka Francis) was abducted when she was 17 and was forced into sex trafficking ring. The opening scene is a flash back to that time when she escapes. Then we fast forward to present day. I loved her, I loved that she has made a life out of helping save others from the awful experience she had. She is now a trucker (yup, a trucker) because so many people go missing around truck stops and are trafficked through them.
Because of her past, she holds herself back from everyone. Has absolutely no thought of ever locking herself to someone. Her goal is to help as many women as she can, not fall for the owner of the bar she spends time at.
One of the places she stops at regularly is a bar, that you guess it, our hot ass Hero owns and works at. Cade knows that there is something up with Star and from the start works to figure it out. What Star doesn't know is that Cade and his family are fighting the same evils she is.
This book was so great. I loved how Cade didn't stop on Stars strength, but helped her. And even more, I loved that when Star knew she was in over her head she was strong enough to bow out and get help while still being a complete badass. Cade's family, especially his brother Reyes, are great.
This was a solid read, and Foster will continue to be a go-to author for me when I just need a good romance. The audio on this was decent too.
One quick note, the ending is a little rushed and cheesy, but it still worked for my mood. And I can't wait for Reyes' book!
This books has some mild triggers for my safety gang: abuse and sex trafficking (it is talked about, and the abuse is described - but the trafficking is mentioned in past tense not descriptive).

It made her mouth go dry.
He couldn't know that could he? Yet he looked as if he'd just read her every admiring thought.

No Holding Back is the first book in a new series by Lori Foster, and it blew my socks off! I loved Sterling, she had definitely been through hell. She was therefore far from trusting, but she was a very strong character, both physically and emotionally. Cade was a fantastic character as well, fighting the good fight - all in secret - he felt like there was something about Sterling from the first time she came into his bar.
This story is a fast-paced romantic suspense, and I loved how complete it made me feel. There's a lot of action - both in and out of the bedroom - and I enjoyed the fact that Cade did not steamroll over Sterling's wants and needs, he treated her as a partner in every way of the word.

Lori Foster grabs you in the first line of No Holding Back and doesn't let you go until the last word of the last chapter.
I love stories with complicated characters full of depth and dimension. You get that by the truckload in No Holding Back.
First, there's Sterling Parson, Star for short. She's independent, direct, and has learned the hard way not to trust anyone. But on the inside, she's still a scared, lonely teenager running from a danger she can't seem to escape. The only thing that helps is her mission to ensure what happened to her doesn't happen to another human being. Even if it kills her, and it probably will.
Then we have Cade McKenzie...sigh. He is all the things I love in a Lori Foster hero; tall, built, good-looking, deadly-dangerous, extremely alpha, and once he falls for a woman, he's all-in and committed to making her his. Cade has his own secrets to hide...it's the only way to protect his family.
When Cade and Star's missions intersect, they must learn to trust each other. Not an easy task, but if they don't, someone could end up dead.
Star about Cade: "He could pretend to be an average guy, he could wear the trappings of a simple bar owner, but she knew better. He hid something, maybe something as monumental as her own secrets."
Cade about Star: "At a few inches shy of six feet, her body toned, she walked with a self-possessed air that he recognized as more attitude than ability. She wore that swagger like a warning that all but shouted Back off."
Character shout outs to Cade's cocky brother, Reyes, and his brainiac sister, Madison. Can't wait for their stories!! Oh, yes, and Bernard, the "butler and chef, pretty much everything" with a soft spot for a homeless cat and her kittens.

In the beginning of this book I thought this series would be a throwback to her earlier wonderful series "Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor" and "Body Armor". It's not. The elements of strong, sensitive hero and take charge heroine are here, but it just isn't as good. I have to say up front that "Human Trafficking" is a trope I just don't like, so that may have something to do with it.
Sterling (Star) Parson is a woman on a mission. She is a loner and doesn't need help from anyone. She is an independent trucker which allows her to pursue her passion - finding and helping women who have been trafficked and putting the men responsible out of business.
Cade McKenzie's family has been touched by the evil of human trafficking and they all have decided to dedicate their lives to ending it, any way possible. He works as a bartender so he can help any way he can. When Star walks into his bar he senses a kindred spirit, a woman with a purpose and trouble.
They each have secrets, but one thing they share is an off the charts passion for each other. But, will that be enough when trust is nowhere to be found?

I normally really like this author, but this one didn't really work for me. I never did warm up to Sterling/Star, felt bad for her past, but her as a character, didn't like her. The same could be said for Cade and his family, liked their mission in life, but was really meh...about all of them. I also didn't really see the chemistry between Sterling/Star and Cade. I'm glad they are together as they really seem to get each other, but as a couple they fizzled out for me. Due to not really liking the characters I probably won't continue with the series.

The tale begins when we meet Sterling in a horrible situation. Then we meet her again when she walks into Cade’s bar. Tough, hyperaware and on a mission… what she doesn’t know is that the sexy bartender who makes her feel safe is on a mission too.
From the McKenzie family, to sassy Sterling (Star) I was all in. Foster delivered suspense, humor and heat in this first in series contemporary romance.
Secrets, goals, and desire kept me flipping the pages. Foster did a wonderful job of balancing the suspense angle as we got to know Sterling and Cade. The suspense thread hits on a relevant topic that may cause triggers for some. View Spoiler »
Cade didn’t push Star even when his alpha male wanted him to. Instead, he heard her and treated her as an equal. All of which made him incredibly swoon-worthy.
The McKenzie family and their housekeeper/chef who stole scenes have me excited for the series. Their story touched me and I loved the operation they are running. Foster set up the next book and I cannot wait to read Reyes story. (Cade’s brother) His sister Madison is the tech geek, and you’ll love how feisty and determined she is.
The back-and-forth banter between brothers and then between Sterling and Reyes had me rolling. It served as a tension breaker against the darker suspense thread. I laughed, swooned, and held my breath as the outside world slipped away.

This first book in the series features the eldest son, Cade McKenzie and the unique woman who captures first his interest and then his heart.
Cade and Sterling “Star” have both had to deal with the emotional devastation of human trafficking in their lives. Cade was an Army Ranger until he returned home with a medical discharge and became involved in his family’s fight. Star escaped and survived her trafficking, with major trust issues, but she refuses to be broken and works on her own to help others escape from traffickers while seeking revenge.
I love these two together and how Cade took the necessary time to gain Star’s trust while both danced around how much they were willing to reveal to each other. I always love a strong heroine and Star more than fits the bill, physically and in the way she stands up to Cade’s alpha tendencies and his father’s domineering attitude. All the members of the McKenzie family are fully fleshed. The plot is full of suspense and danger but is also interspersed with humor and smokin’ hot sex scenes that are explicit, but not gratuitous. The discussions of human trafficking are handled realistically and do include scenes of violence.
I highly recommend this emotional romantic suspense!

Sterling (aka Star, aka Francis) feels comfortable in Cade’s bar, enough that she can doze off there, although she doesn’t fully trust Cade himself until he rescues her from an attempted kidnapping.
As the two of them get to know each other, they discover how much they actually have in common-they are both dedicated to rescuing women from human traffickers. But Star is on her own, while Cade has the back up of his father, sister and brother. Can they accept a stranger in their midst to continue their essential work? And can Cade keep her safe when her past decides to take her out?
I loved Cade. He’s the entire package, strong, confident, caring and yet willing to let Star do what she needs to do as part of the team. Star is likeable, strong, and dedicated to keeping others from suffering what was nearly her fate.
The heat between the two protagonists sizzles, and the eventual sex scenes do the same, but the sex doesn’t interfere with the story.
All in all a delightful book. My only complaint is the heroine has too many names which can make it hard to keep up with who is who. But the suspense, the story, and the characters make this a great start of a new series.

No Holding Back is the first in a new series by Lori Foster. This is our introduction to the McKenzie Family . This book is the typical heat and suspense we have come to love.
Star is used to working alone but ends up with some unexpected help from Cade and his family . She quickly finds herself attracted to him. They become an item and work together to help solve a human trafficking ring .
This action packed romance keeps you on the edge of your seat with a serious real life issue. Looking forward to the next book in the series. I received an ARC for my honest opinion .

No Holding Back brought me back to the days of The Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor series! That series was one of the first I read by Ms. Foster and will always be a forever favorite.
While NHB had a similar feel to When You Dare, with the kidnapping/human trafficking storyline, this book is definitely a little darker and grittier than most of her recent books.
I liked how strong Sterling was, how she's able to hold her own when it came to not only the bad guys, but with Cade as well. I appreciated how protective Cade was with her, but still able to accept that she wasn't going to just let him take over and control things, especially when it came to dealing with her kidnappers. They worked very well together, along with the rest of Cade's family.
I enjoyed the action and intrigue of this story, I think a bit more than the romance, if you can believe it!
I got a kick out of Reyes, Cade's brother, and I'm looking forward to his book. I think he's in for a run for his money when it comes to Kennedy, and I can't wait to see what her story is.

First of all, I am so happy to see Ms Foster writing hot, edgy, heroic romance once again. Seems a long time since I've been fully immersed in a great hero style from her, with a twist I loved.
Sterling or Star, is a true survivor, bent on saving women from human traffickers. The best way she had of doing that is becoming a big rig driver, easily explained away. Who better to be at truckstops, or driving up and down the same routes often, always blending, but still being a loner.
Cade, a bartender with a hidden agenda, has good instincts and his were saying there was definitely something up with Star, when she often came in to just sit back in a corner and sleep, but he also wanted her in the basest of ways. He broke a Cardinal rule and ended up bringing her to his family's fortress near Ridge Trail, Colorado.
These two are so well matched in all ways, recognizing each other for equals, feeling a yet unexplained bond between themselves, and respect!
A ton of action in here, heat to scorch, and an amazing journey start to finish! There's more goodness to come in this series and I, for one, can hardly wait for the next one.

Another great read by Lori Foster, so good!
I love this story so much. Lori goes in a different direction in No Holding Back, but. she tells the story with her usual heat and heart. I love it when the Hero and the heroine join forces to fight a common enemy instead of fighting each other.
Cade, when crossed, is a force to be reckoned with, but he also has a soft spot for family and Sterling, or Star, as he likes to call her. Sterling is a strong woman, but she recognizes and accepts her limitations. She is not foolhardy. Together she and Cade work, along with his family, to rescue women in distress.
This is Cade and Sterling’s story, but I’ll bet we’re going to get to know other members of the Mc Kenzie family, and I say, “Bring it”.

I normally adore Lori Foster books with her fun combination of alpha males and independent heroines, but I had some big issues with this one, mainly the heroine herself.
I know that there's such a trope as Too Stupid To Live, but I swear there needs to be a name for a heroine who is Too Independent To Live. Seriously. Sterling, our heroine, was so dedicated to being a strong, independent woman who doesn't need no man that she constantly put herself in needless danger, resulting in the hero needing to rescue her because she entered a situation woefully unprepared or the hero being severely hurt because she was too stubborn to not continue to put herself in the face of danger just so she can feel good about herself.
It seriously got frustrating to watch her continuously make stupid decisions all in the name of feminism. And I love feminist heroines. But damn, there's a limit, girl.
Not to mention... I can understand a woman who'd been previously trafficked wanting to learn to protect themselves and even wanting to save women like them, but this heroine does it all wrong. She gets herself a knife and learns a little self-defense and thinks she can go from picking up trafficked girls on trucking routes to infiltrating human trafficking dens. Like... I'd prefer a little more intelligence from my heroines. If she'd been properly trained to do that sort of thing I'd be all for it, but Sterling truly just seems like an adrenaline junky with a cause.
I'm writing this at 70% in because I am truly struggling to finish. The writing quality is as good as a typical Lori Foster, but these characters are a total miss for me.

I love Ms. Foster's books, and this one sounded great.
It just started out weird to me, and then the bad guy (or is it girl) was just off to me. Gave up about 30% in. The thought of a whole family with a top secret mission to take out human trafficking rings with all the skills of the CIA just seemed silly. And the relationship between one member of this family and another woman who is trying on her own to also dismantle human trafficking networks was even sillier. None of it seemed remotely realistic and given that I was bored, I just gave up.

Vigilantism, revenge, and passion all play huge role in this first book in a new series by prolific author Lori Foster.
Sterling Parson, with a nickname she no longer wants used - Star - is a truck driver who takes breaks at a bar that is on her route. She feel safe there and spends many hours there. She draws the attention of bar owner Cade McKenzie and at it does not take him long to recognize that she is in danger. He offers her safety but the question is whether or not she can trust him.
Sterling is soon injured so her trust really becomes at play because of the very reason she spent so much time at that bar. She had something happen to her when she was a teenager and it is that experience that led her to become a vigilante of sorts.
Revenge comes into play when someone she is after will do anything to bring her to an end, but not without having her suffer greatly. Then there is the undeniable passion that is evident between Sterling and Cade. The connection is all too palpable and proves to only be a matter of time before they give in. However, while this is explored, her safety is something that is very important to him and he never once loses sight of this.
I found this to be a remarkable story. The ultimate joint goal both Sterling and Cade had was to stop sex traffickers. However, Sterling worked on her own, whereas Cade worked with his family. Whether or not they could all work together only time would tell. I found this book to be an absolute fantastic read because it dealt with very serious issues without becoming too graphic. Another fabulous aspect of this book was how Sterling and Cade's relationship grew. I love how it started off on a protective basis but grew to passionate proportions, yet neither of them ever lost sight of the victims of the horrendous actions of sex traffickers.
As this is the first book in a new series by Lori Foster, I am eager to read the following stories, and would love to see this remarkable family take down more disgusting traffickers. I have always loved Ms. Foster and have read countless books by her and have never once been disappointed. This new book kept me riveted from beginning to end, bringing me conflicting emotions - from feeling sad for the victims, yet rooting for the expected happily ever after.

Wow, if there’s ever a time when a book merits more than 5 stars! I read to be entertained. Most of the time, that entertainment comes in the form of a quick, light, easy, and fun read. A perfect fit for my day. This book had more. Very reminiscent of her Edge of Honor and Undercover series which are some of the best stories I’ve read. This story is about Cade (and his family) and Sterling (Star). She’s a trucker with a dark history, he owns a bar on a trucking route. Both have a purpose. Both have secrets they’re protecting, but when trouble arrives, they’re going to have to trust the other and work together. Mystery, danger, chemistry, and some badass heroes to fall in love with. Can not wait for the rest of Cade’s family to have their stories… and hopefully a certain little feline is featured in them as well.
As always, Ms. Foster creates people and places so real and easy to cheer for, it’s no wonder she’s been on my auto-buy list since the beginning of her writing career! I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy.

Part of the McKenzies of Ridge Trail series, in which Sterling Parson, a trucker, is seeking women and children trapped in the victimhood of human trafficking. Bar owner Cade McKenzie spots her in his bar and notes that she's different from the usual trucker, and not just because she's a woman.

This is the first full-length book I’ve attempted by this author and are all of her heroes written this way? While I enjoy the occasional alpha hero when written with deft and sensitivity, I just didn’t care for the way Cade was written. The instalove combined with Cade’s dry alpha-personality rubbed me the wrong way. The suspense element was compelling, but I could no longer stomach the lack of chemistry between the couple.

Talk about unputdownable! No Holding Back introduced us to the incredible McKenzie family in Lori Foster’s newest series. Filled with suspenseful moments that will keep you on the edge of your seat as well as passionate scenes that will also have your heart racing, this was truly a story to savor.
Lori Foster is one of my favorite contemporary authors. I’ve said before how much I adore her sexy alpha heroes and her smart, capable heroines so I’m happy to say that Cade and Sterling fit that description perfectly. But they were uniquely their own as well. Never disappointed
Lori Foster books are always a win for me, and this one certainly didn’t disappoint. Cade and Sterling are fire. I can’t wait for the rest of the stories as I’m hoping both Reyes and Madison will get their HEAs. If Lori isn’t on your auto buy list, she should be!

Another great book from Lori Foster- I was immediately draw to Cade, his intensity and empathy for Star was masterfully written.
Star's character arc from loner and avenger of woman had me applaud her courage but she really need Cade to recover and become who she was meant to be, still the avenger at a higher skill level.
I can't wait to read Reyes story and hope Ms. Foster even gives Parrish his own story. So many layers to all of these characters and definitely needs to be on your to be read list.

As expected, I loved this book. It captured me from the first page and I couldn’t put it down. I love that Cade and his family aim to take down human traffickers and that Star is SUCH a badass heroine. Their chemistry was off the charts. Cade’s family was a wonderful addition and I cannot wait to read his brother’s book! I am going to be on the edge of my seat until it comes out. Such a sweet story told so well.

This book captivated me from the first page. Human trafficking is real and scary and this book brought it the forefront. There was a great cast of characters and the first book in the McKenzies of Ridge Tail is a great start to a new series.

If all you’ve ever had was yourself to depend on, pain & fear, how do you let someone into your life? Sterling escaped from an abduction and has been in a journey to rescue women from traffickers ever sense. She has fear as a constant companion, so much so that she really didn’t get a good nights sleep. She had one place where she felt safe enough to nap. She didn’t know why but she trusted “him” to keep her safe.
Cade didn’t know why he was drawn to the woman but he was. She was full of anger, attitude & fear. He had been trying to slowly get her to trust him. Since she left immediately after his first talk with her, he was afraid he’d scared her off. He couldn’t put a name to his feelings yet but knew that he was concerned about her. His instincts were telling him to stay close.
I love this start to the new series. Ms. Foster has brought her customary detailed character development to the characters in this series. Her descriptions are so detailed, as a reader, you instantly have a picture in your mind. The plot somehow moves at the perfect pace - giving enough detail to keep you reading but not so much that it bogs the story down. I just love the way this story drew me in from the start & kept me hanging until the end. I can’t wait to read the next in this series!

She blends in, scans the other drivers, and can quickly pick out someone who doesn't belong, her instincts are usually spot on. That is until she runs across bar owner Cade McKenzie... that man found a way to sneak past her radar and wander straight into her heart!
No Holding Back is an action-packed tale riddled with edge of your seat suspense and intense toe curling romance. As I settled down with this one I had an inkling that I was going to be in for a real treat and boy was I ever! I loved the tough as nails heroine, it's not too often you find one of those that can honestly stand toe-to-toe with the man vying for her heart. Star was not only impressive on paper, but inspiring as well. She had made it her mission to save others from a very ugly world, and she didn't care if she lost herself in the process, she was selfless and so strong. And when that world got a little ugly and a little too close it was Cade who came to her rescue, and he did an outstanding job at saving the day.... and stealing my heart right along with Star's! These two were pure magic together, they brought intensity, passion, compassion, and strength to every page... I loved everything about them! I look forward to more additions to the series, if they are anything like this one I know I will love them! Got to say Ms. Foster really outdid herself with this one, it took the top seat as my favorite read from her to date! Highly recommend!!

This is a new series for Lori Foster. It’s about a girl named Star. In the beginning of the book you get to see what happened to Star when she was 17 years old. Because of her past Star has been shaped, to the person she currently is, when you meet her at Cade’s bar. Cade has been watching her for a while and knows something is going on with her and he wants to help. Cade is a tough ex military ranger who is always helping protect those in need. Those two have an instant connection and Star gives as good as she gets. You also get to meet Cade’s family. He has a brother, sister, father, and a close family friend, who has a true love of cats. The whole family is fighting for the justice of the innocent and they have trained for any event. The characters are wonderfully written and I can’t wait to see what happens in the second book! I was given an advanced reader copy for an honest review of this book.
