Up-and-coming spellcaster Kiara continues her quest to stop Llewyne’s invasion and save Prince Reginald from his ever-looming death. The pressure is greater than ever with the news that the king has been killed, but the forces of Farzia persist in pushing Llewyne back. Things are looking up with the recapture of Fort Inion—except Kiara has run into two problems. right in the heat of battle, she hits an unforeseen hitch in casting her magic. back at the fort, the enemy spellcaster Ada has infiltrated Farzian ranks, and her determination to woo the prince might be stirring up a little bit of jealousy in our protagonist.
The war against Llewyne and Salekhard continue right were volume 3 ended and so does Kiara's role in it. Llewyne is not going to let others walk over them and they are taking actions against the Prince and Kiara. Much like previous parts, the world building, the brutality of war, the twist to the world's magic and the motivations of those involved are interesting. If only there was less love drama from Kiara's point of view. I am just not a fan of potential love triangles and MCs that have a tendency to panic internally even if it makes sense for that character's personality. Bit of a cliff hanger ending, but considering the final two parts are already available that is less of an issue.
