Humanising The Divine

HUMANISING THE DIVINE - volume one
In this first book, Scott begins by placing Jesus at the centre of theology. He maintains that Jesus is presented in Scripture as both the image of God and the image of true humanity. God was 'humanised' through the Incarnation, and through the cross, a roadblock was placed on humanity's road to destruction. In the middle chapters, there are some fresh perspectives on Judas, Peter and Cornelius, suggesting that salvation is much more to do with a call to join a movement; a movement to work for the restoration of humanity, than a ticket to heaven.
.....

Explorations in Theology is a series of short books that offer some fresh perspectives on common themes. They are certainly not the final word, but are intended to open possibilities beyond a theology that selects a narrow set of 'proof-texts' (while ignoring others). Written in simple language, never demanding agreement with the author, they will become a resource to develop one's own convictions.

An easy read considering that it is quite a subject. Its one of those books where something is stated in a short sentence, but that might take you a lifetime to unpack. I like it, it challenges much of current thinking and position. Though it should not do so! I have to say that the Authors description of himself as a promo and the offer of a photo if you want to book him did make me laugh, but it does, in fact, make a very serious and important point. Don't take my word for it, read it.
Alongside the book there is a web live discussion with the author, I am at the moment trying to join that.

A very great read. It is totally sound and orthodox to all I have ever read and been taught, but taking me where I have never been before. Explaining to a friend of mind I said it was like I had been living 12 inches below the surface of the Pacific ocean. I see the fish life there and enjoy the mysteries of the ocean. But suddenly I read this short, easy read book that revolutionises a lot of my understanding of Biblical truth and I am aware I am in the deeper waters and brighter thoughts. I have been a Christian for 53 years as I write ....and never entertained some of the glorious thoughts that I was negotiating in this book. I invite all Christians to hook into Martin Scott's writing and even link in with some of Martin's ZOOM metings.
