This time he’s playing for keeps...

Rugged hockey star Dax O’Day has always had a thing for his best friend and teammate’s twin sister, but that’s a line you don’t cross. Not in hockey, and definitely not in life. He just can’t stop thinking about her, and when she turns to him for help, there isn’t a chance in hell he can refuse her—even if it means getting his hands dirty.

Beautiful and brilliant, Isla Campbell is a physics professor who comes from a titled Scottish family. She’s loved Dax since the first time they met, but he’s never really seen her like that. With her grandfather trying to marry her off, who better to come to her rescue than the most uninterested, eligible bachelor?

Dax is torn between walking away from the only life he’s ever known to answer the call of duty and keeping his distance from the woman he can’t live without. The longer they put off the inevitable, the harder it becomes to choose.

I have yet to achieve my goal in catching up this series with the first two Royal Protector books, but I will keep trying because Kat Mizera is talented AF!! GAH, everything I’ve by her has been just ridiculously well written! There is an incredible amount of layers and bumps for a person such as Isla, and Dax as well to some extent, that an every day person such as you and I would probably not have to walk thru or jump to get what we desire. But they have obligations and history that just can’t be ignored so it has to be incorporated. This is all to say that a person such as Isla doesn’t get to just say “I want to marry X person” and it just be that. That’s what I loved reading the most in this story. All of those little details being part of the story and not brushed over. Every book I’ve read by Kat has made me happy because she’s respectful of the subject and makes sure to do her homework to get things correct on the page.

All that being said, I do wish there was a bit less rigidity in both Dax and Isla. I don’t want to give away any plot points about the journey, but it seemed to me they were unnecessarily stubborn at times that caused drama where drama did not need any help at all LOL if you get my meaning. But if I put some thought into it, I also don’t know if the story would have the same impact on me if they weren’t so … I’m going to leave it as I began lol I love this author and I loved this story!

What can you say about this book- it blended two of my favorite series by this author seamlessly. DAX is a famous hockey player and when the opportunity presents itself, being a date with his teammate’s sister, he goes all in. Isla is feeling the pressure from her Grandfather to get married and have kids but she’s not at that point in her life. So at the dinner he is hosting she brings Dax as her plus one to get her grandfather off her back. The couple developed a love for each other that is so sweet but will it come crashing down because they are at different points in their life?

Dax has been playing professional hockey for the last decade, but the time is approaching when he must decide what he wants for the next phase of his life however he isn’t sure if what he wants is achievable. When Ian, his teammate and best friend, asks him to escort his sister to his wedding to sidetrack their matchmaking family he is more than up for the challenge.

Isla lives in Scotland however her career as a Professor isn’t enough to please her family when she isn’t married and having children of her own. Not wanting to get set up again she pretends that she and Dax are involved in a relationship and who better than Dax, the man that she has been attracted to for a while.

What starts out a way to waylay her family turns into so much more but with both of them living on opposite sides of the world and their professional lives unclear they will have some obstacles to overcome, but they show with love that anything is possible.

I thought there were was something with Dax and Isla in Ian's book, but it was so faint, so I was glad to see these 2 at the center of things here. I really liked how Dax and Isla took advantage of the summer to spend time together and build their relationship. The one bad thing is that while they sort of spoke about what to do, Dax based in Las Vegas and Isla in Edinburgh, they didn't have a good plan and things sort of crumbled.

It was easy to see why things crumbled, Dax wasn't sure what he wanted to do, other than quit hockey and Isla needed more of a plan to make a change. I thought some of the things that Dax was checking out didn't make sense, like the bodyguarding. Why go from playing professional hockey to body guarding, it seems like a step down, even as he enjoyed the little jobs he was doing.

I was a bit surprised by what Dax did decide and hated that he couldn't talk to Isla about it. Of course they were split then, but it would have made a difference to her.

Once Isla did get clued in you could see how her mind could easily make the changes and I was happy that these two were able to build a future plan together.

This book is a cross over between two of Kat Mizers’s series, Las Vegas Sidewinders and Royal Protectors. The two main characters each are dissatisfied with their life, and need to figure things out, but are their life goals compatible?

Dax is an NHL player for the Las Vegas Sidewinders and has been playing professional hockey for 10 years. He loves hockey, but wants more for his future, but he isn’t exactly sure what he wants or how to accomplish it before time runs out. If he wants to join the FBI, he’s Canadian and would need US citizenship and needs to get a bachelor’s degree plus have 3 years experience in a related job experience to qualify, he needs to figure it out soon.

Isla is seemingly very happy as a university professor in Scotland who teaches physics and occasionally astronomy and a scientist studying black holes. She has been in love with Dax her twin brother’s best friend and teammate on the Sidewinders. They’ve been friends/friendly for 5 years, but nothing has ever happened between them. Her grandfather has been meddling and pushing her to get married and have babies, and pushes her too far at a family dinner when he encourages a guest to ask her to be his date at her twin brother’s upcoming wedding. She tries to fake already having a date and is pushed into naming someone... she tells her family it’s Dax.

She reaches out to her brother to gage how Dax will react . Dax tells her brother he’d be willing to be her fake date or real date. When Dax arrives in Scotland he and Isla quickly fall into more than a fake relationship when it turns steamy the first day. Weeks later, after going on vacation together and moving to Las Vegas for the summer it’s time for Isla to return to Scotland, but what happens when they have 5,000 miles between them and too many hours difference in time zones, never mind super busy schedules that will prevent them from being together for months?

What frustrated me about this story is that Isla who was supposedly a huge planner didn’t seem to make any effort into looking into what job opportunities there would be in Las Vegas or anywhere else. She had supposedly loved Dax for years and now that she had the opportunity to be with him, she was extremely rigid in her expectations and created unnecessary obstacles. She was fixed in having to be in Scotland at her current university despite only having taught for 4 years and having as stellar reputation as a young PhD in her field. This created so much unnecessary angst.

The eventual solution to their dilemma on how to be together and both be happy with their respective jobs was creative and fits the crossover between these two series.I do wish more was written about after they had figured things out.

It was great the author included so many characters from both series and gave a quick into to them as then entered this story so a reader didn’t feel lost if they hadn’t read the prior books in either series (I hadn’t read them and followed along without feeling lost anyway). Overall this is a good book that ties together two series fairly seamlessly.

I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.

A plea from his teammate/friend's sister and suddenly Dax is her new fake relationship. Somehow that fake might be turning real and neither Dax nor Isla is quite sure what to make of these feelings. And when his life starts changing, one of them will have to make a career-changing sacrifice if they want that real to stay real.

What a great idea to cross over these two series! And there couldn't have been a better couple to crossover with because Dax and Isla are amazing together. I especially like how Dax made her take a leap of faith with him, take her out of her rigid academic box that she'd been in for so long. Though the two may be very different, they fit into each other's lives seamlessly, with a lot of heart, and tons of heat. I am all for more Royal Protectors/Sidewinders crossovers now!

Dax is A Royal Protectors/Sidewinders Crossover by Kat Mizera. This is Dax and Isla’s story.
Dax has spent 10 years playing hockey for the Las Vegas Sidewinders and he's now at that point where he wants to either quit playing hockey and see about possibly serving in another career (military, police). Or just re-upping his contract with his hockey team...only Dax is conflicted. If he goes towards a career in FBI, he will have to go to American college and he will need to apply for his American citizenship in order to stay. Isla is Ian's twin sister- Ian plays hockey with Dax on Sidewinders plus he's his best friend. She is coming to Ian's wedding. She has really crushed on him for the longest. She needs a plus 1 for the wedding so she asks her brother to ask Dax if he'd be her date. From here, is the beginning of a sweet, best friend's sister story that will tug at the heartstrings. It's about following your feelings and your life as to what makes you happy. Dax is sexy, swoon-worthy, and hot. Isla is sweet, caring and loving. I loved the crossover of the Royal Protectors and Sidewinders worlds. Great seeing previous characters and meeting new characters.

My Rating: 4.4 stars *******

Kat Mizera lights the lamp with DAX. In this story, hockey star Dax O’Day is ecstatic when his best friend/team mate’s twin sister, Isla Campbell, asks him to pretend to be her fake boyfriend. However, he sets out to make her his real girlfriend, which will not be easy with them living in different countries. This contemporary sports romance is suitable for adult readers.

Isla is the twin sister of Ian (Las Vegas Sidewinders #14). I love that this story partially took place in Scotland. It was fun to have everyone back at the castle. I enjoyed Ian’s and Everly’s wedding. Isla and Dax are great characters. They have things in common, but they are quite different. The couple had a lot of thought-provoking and life-changing obstacles to overcome.

I appreciated that this book crossover with three of Kat Mizera series: Las Vegas Sidewinders, Royal Protectors, and Alaska Blizzard (briefly). It was clever how she worked them all into the novel. DAX was skillfully written and entertaining throughout. I recommend this book to people who enjoy hockey romances and books about bodyguards. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

4 star Review Dax (A Royal Protectors/Sidewinders Crossover) by Kat Mizera

Dax is at a turning point in his life. Give up the hockey career he loves or pursue his dreams to serve. What happens when a holiday to Scotland to re think his life choices leads to an even more startling life changing experience. Isla has been frustrated with her life for a while and wants things to change but she has no idea how.

Needing a date to her brother’s wedding Isla asks Ian to convince Dax to be her date. What neither of them are aware is that they both have feelings for one another, however that’s all about to change, complicating both Dax and Isla’s lives even more.

I really enjoyed this book. Dax and Isla’s story was an entertaining read. It was a well written, at times humorous story that left me with a smile on my face.

Dax by Kat Mizera is a crossover in her Royal Protectors/Sidewinders series. Dax is a hockey player for the Sidewinders pro hockey team out of Las Vegas. He’s hot and he’s single. He’s also got a crush on teammate Ian’s sister Isla, a brainy physics teacher who loves to study astronomy, particularly black holes.
Isla has a crush on Dax as well, and when her grandfather springs yet another bachelor on her at dinner as a marriage candidate, she blurts out that she’s already seeing someone, and that it’s Dax. So Dax happily comes to her rescue as a fake date to her brother Ian’s wedding in Scotland, but it’s no fake date to either one of them. Can they get past logistics and geography to make a relationship work?
This was an enjoyable read, even if I thought their relationship was a bit fast.

Dax is a professional hockey player for the sidewinders but lately he has been thinking he might be on the wrong profession. He want something else! He’s best friend’s sister, Isla asks him for a big favor. Isla is committed to her profession. Her grandfather keeps setting her up with guys when all she wants, is to be left alone. Dax flies to Isla’s rescue to pretend they have a relationship. Surprise to both of them, they both have had a crush on each other for a while. There is a problem on pursuing a relationship. They live thousands of miles away of each other. Will they be able to make it work? Like always, I got hooked to the story and wouldn’t want to stop reading! A great book to read and you must read all of the series, they are awesome!

Dax is an NFL hockey player who has feelings for his best friend and teammates sister Isla making her off limits. Isla is a physics professor whose grandfather is interfering in her life and pushes her to get married and have children, and when he oversteps at a family dinner trying to get her a date for her brothers’ wedding, and she snaps and names Dax as her +1, and luckily he agrees. These two then start seeing each other but when work separates them, will distance and busy scheduled be the end for them? This is a well written story which is engaging and is a steamy read. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I recommend for all.

I enjoyed this book. Loved how Isla and Dax became a couple. But we’re they moving too fast? I felt for them as they couldn’t decide whether they were really in for the long haul. Poor Dax wasn’t sure what he wanted to do, did he want to leave hockey? Had some heartbreak for them but I did love the resolution to their happy ever after. It’s very heartwarming. I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy and I recommend this book.

Dax and Isla have harbored a crush on each other for years, but they live a world away from each other. When they’re brought together by Isla’s brothers (and Dax’s best friend and teammate) wedding, they both decide to give a relationship a shot. But their different worlds seem too hard to overcome, and neither are sure if love is enough.

An early midlife crisis for Las Vegas Sidewinders Dax O'Day, deciding to make a drastic career change and give up his paycheck in the millions, was not a trope I expected. For the last couple years, Dax has wanted his best friend and fellow hockey player, Ian Campbell's sister, Isla. But following the "never date your BF sister" AND "never date a teammate's sister" bro-code, he has fought off his urge to pursue her.

Isla has been in love with Dax for quite a while, but she is a straight arrow, live your life by a plan and never stray from the path code. Interference with a match-making grandfather trying to marry her off has her suddenly blurting out that she and Dax are involved, even though they live practically on opposites side of the globe with her based in Scottland. Finally these two are able to pursue each other with an intense summer fling, but real life eventually has to be faced and a really long distance relationship may not be in the cards.

Having been in a long distance relationship just like this, I could totally relate. It was Dax's whole "what do I want to be when I grow up" uncertainty while Isla needed to live by her need to have a precise plan that threw the wrench in their continuing on with their relationship. It's difficult when you have two people that must decide who has to make the drastic change to give up their life for the one they love; who will make the sacrifice for love? Is finding your soulmate but letting them go worth your career and home? Definitely an intense, mature read in this series (LVS) that has dealt with so many issues throughout it's run.

Though this is listed as book four in the Royal Protector series, I chose to read it before that one as it takes place in the timeline that I'm already invested in. It also sets up this series by introducing some of the other characters from that (new to me) series. It also leads up to the second book, Tore, in the Sidewinders: Generations book.

Keeping all these characters straight in five different series is making me a little dizzy...

Honestly it would have been a 4 star but I’m feeling down with FMCs making the leap of faith, sacrificing. I never want anyone to lose out, that’s the whole point of romance, it doesn’t have to be real, but generally the give and take is not completely even and I’ve read too many books recently where the MMC just doesn’t give enough. Isla and Dax are wonderful and I completely accept their HEA even though there is still so much to come for them both, I just wanted something more from Dax

wow

Wow, just wow! This crossover between the sidewinders and royal Protectors was amazing. If we can only clone Dax, the world would be perfect. Isla was amazing in her own right. Strong, beautiful, loyal, and intelligent. It took a while before she could see a different way of life. But when she found true love, she realize that was the way of life.. Can’t wait to see what’s next for the sidewinders and the royal protectors. I love the way previous characters are brought into each story, because once you’ve met them, you fell in love with all of them.

Once I picked up this book I couldn't out it down. Dax and Isla were always meant to be together but being on different continents three both of them for a loop. I'm so glad that they got their HEA though as they both deserve it.

I received a free ARC copy of this book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

First I need to share that I never read Ian. So Isla was a brand new character for me and I never felt lost or felt I missed anything. She is the twin sister of Ian who is Dax's best friend and teammate who plays hockey with him in Las Vegas.

Also you should know that this story features Lennox before she becomes a protector and then continues as that series runs concurrently with this book. I have read that series so I understood things that happen after and during. I don't think it really makes a huge difference in reading this story, its just nice to know the timeline. You will also see King Eric, Xander, Sandor and Natalie, Chains. It was great seeing them interact in this story.

Isla was a fascinating character. She is very close with her twin and her mother and grandfather and Dax as well. Her grandfather has been trying to matchmake and to get him to stop she says she is dating Dax.

Dax and her are close friends but a big issue is that she lives in Scotland and him Vegas because he is very into her. So he decides this is the perfect time to explore their feelings when he visits in the summer and attends Ian's wedding.

Isla is a professor who still lives at home and is not happy personally and professionally but she doesn't know how to change things. She is also fearful of change and so her exploring things with Dax is pretty huge for her.
Meanwhile Dax is an excellent hockey player but he is starting to think he wants more and he thinks Isla could be the more and his contract is coming up so he has some really big decisions to make.

I enjoyed this story and I liked both characters. I loved Dax a whole lot. But Isla at times really frustrated me. I felt she didn't realize how precious love is and how a job is just that a job. She had people around her who understood that and tried to convince her of that but she didn't really grasp that. I wondered if maybe thats a UK thing and as I am American, I couldn't see a lot of her points.

Storyline wise I adored this book because I really loved Dax and I really enjoyed watching her decide what he needed to be happy and what he wanted his future to be. I really admired how he didn't know what he wanted but he was so open to explore what that future would be.

I love this Sidewinders and Royal Protectors crossover romance!
Dax and Isla were great together, but had many obstacles to overcome to be together. They both had feelings for each other, but hadn’t acted on them. When Dax was Isla date to her brothers wedding their relationship moved forward from there. Will they be able to overcome the obstacles that stand in their way or will they be to much for the couple? This book has amazing characters and a wonderful storyline! I loved having both characters from the Sidewinders and the Royal Protectors stories! I love both series! I look forward to Kats next book!

Awesome Royal Protectors/Sidewinders Crossover!!

What I loved most about this best-friends-sister story is that the best friend wasn’t warning his mate off his sister!!! I’ve always struggled with the hypocrisy of those guys, and always wondered if I’d ever see a book like this, so for me this plot line was such an amazing breath of fresh air. I love the writing of Author Kat Mizera and have read the Royal Protector series from the start, so joining this series with the Sidewinders Ice Hockey series was a bonus!

I also loved how everything seemed to fall into place in Dax and Isla’s relationship. Each didn’t realise that they’d starred in the other’s night-time fantasies, but for Dax he’d thought there was the added difficultly of her being his best mate’s sister on top of distance and logistics that would make it untenable, so when Isla’s Grandfather had backed her into a dating corner, it allowed Dax the chance to open the door on a genuine relationship they’d both thought was impossible. Especially when teammate Ian Campbell agreed that his sister made her own choices.

Isla disappointed me. She’d crushed for so long on Dax, that her immovable stance surprised me, breaking his heart and mine when she shied at making that final step. I was nothing short of gutted. Luckily for them both, Ms Mizera writes the best in secondary characters through both of her series, so there was great support available, and for me, I absolutely enjoyed seeing my favourites again.

Simply put, this book was another amazing stand-a-lone addition to Kat Mizera’s Royal Protector/Sidewinder Hockey series, and another one of her books that I highly recommend. 5 Stars. Yep★

Protecting Their Hearts

Ilsa is the twin sister to Ian one of the Sidewinders. And as the only girl in the family her grandfather wants to see her married off and having kids. So he repeatedly invites men over for dinner to try. Growing sick of this she finally tells him that she has a boyfriend. Without thinking to hard she tells him she is with Dax. Ian's best friend on the team and her crush for the last two years. And he is all to willing to play along. Until he wants more. This book fits in well in the series. And this series should be read in order.

4 1/2 Star Read. I wasn't disappointed with this story of Dax and Isla. Dax plays for the Las Vegas Sidewinders Hockey team and is good friends with Ian who is Isla's twin brother. Isla is a Physicist professor specializing in astronomy and black holes in space. She's at a family dinner and once again her grandfather is trying to matchmake her with Gideon an attorney. He asks her to be his date for Ian's wedding. Caught on the spot Isla tells him she has to decline his offer she already has a date. When challenged by her grandfather as he hasn't seen her bringing any men home, she blurts out because he lives in Vegas. SO now she's not sure what she's going to do when the time comes and how will she ask Dax to be her date for the wedding. She confides in Ian her dilemma and he asks Dax if he would mind being Isla's date at the wedding and why. He's secretly fist pumping since he's always admired Isla from afar but doesn't think she would be interested in him.
They both get hot and heavy and are really attracted to each other. They're unsure how they're going to make this work with Isla teaching in Scotland and Dax with his Ice hockey in Vegas. Will they be able to make their romance work long-distance or who will have to move and will things work out.
I received an Arc copy for an honest review for NN Book Blog. If you love a hot romance with ice hockey players this one won't disappoint. Will Dax stay with his hockey and will Isla move to
Vegas? Or will Dax change careers and move to Scotland to be with Isla. I loved how Kat did the cross over with The Sidewinders and The Royal Protectors.

4.5 Stars for Dax ( A Royal Protectors/Sidewinders Crossover)
Dax is an NHL player for the Las Vegas Sidewinders and hockey has been his life for the last ten years but now he is at a crossroads in his life. He needs to look to the future and if he peruses a career He has longed after in the FBI he will not only need American citizenship, he will also need to go back to school to get the required degree and that means giving up the game he loves....
Isla is a University Professor in Scotland but her ties to a Dax are through her twin brother Ian who is not only a teammate of Dax’s he is also his best friend. Isla has crushed on her brothers best friend for a while now and when she finds herself needing a date for her brothers wedding she asks Ian to convince Dax to do the job, what she doesn’t realise is the feelings she has for him work both ways.
A summer in Scotland to work your life out doesn’t seem like a bad idea until it’s time to return to the real world, can this couple make it work with a massive pond between them as well as a few hours time difference .....
Real or fake, distance or no distance this couple certainly have many obstacles to overcome before they get their HEA, family pressure and work commitments all add to the bumps in the road . I was captivated by Dax and Isla’s story and I loved catching up with the gang from previous books but that being said I really think their story can be read and enjoyed as a stand-alone although I’m sure once you meet one of the hot hunks from the Sidewinders you will want more of their stories. Great read.

Hockey and international love

What a great story. Fun geographic settings like Scotland and Vegas. Hot hockey players, music stars and royalty. Not to mention a love story with lots of give and take, and compromise. In the end a great happy ending. Also includes some familiar characters from Kat’s other series. A very enjoyable read.

Just from the cover of this book along I was curious about it. How is it a cross over book? I went into it blind and still confused. But honestly, I wasn't disappointed. Now this book takes place around the same time as Sandor's book. Whether you've read that book or not, just know that it has no effect on this book.

I love a brother's best friend book. I love it even more so when the brother understands that his sister deserves happiness and not an over bearing oaff pushing away the man who could make her happy. With that said I loved both Dax and Isla. I loved how fiercely they loved each other (even if they let fear hold them back for years). What I didn't like was their unwillingness to talk things through and compromise. It's true that long distance relationships suck. It's true that distant makes the heart grow founder. But if you really love someone you fight for them. I think Isla gave up to easily. I think she kept seeing to much black and white and missed all the grey. However I also agree that they needed space. They started to fast and needed to slow down a bit. They needed to find themselves.

I give coodles to Dax for stepping out of his comfort zone to find himself. I wish we could have seen a little more into their future but maybe in a future book as secondary characters? Guess I'll just have to keep reading to find out!

*I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.*
