This is a follow up to the novel In the Absence of Light.
A handmade sailboat helped bring Morgan back to Grant but he never imagined they would put it in the water.
Then Morgan sees something in the light that sets Grant on a mission to get them to the middle of the ocean. An unknown destination they have to be at when the sun rises.
It’s important enough that Morgan is willing to leave Durstrand. Important enough that he’ll face the challenges of his autism.
So important, it could even be a matter of life and death.
By the Light of Dawn happens at the same time The Darkest Hour (Jeff’s story) takes place and contains mild spoilers as well as teasers. The plot points revealed in By the Light of Dawn are the same ones that were revealed at the end of In the Absence of Light.
Georgia born and bred, I am an artist, a writer, and a general pain in the ass. I spend most of my days working on my next book or bettering my art. Writing is my identity and I love every minute of it. It's work, lots of work (sometimes I work 12+ hours a day and I never get a vacation) but I don't regret doing it. I currently share my house with a myriad of dogs, a few cats, a saltwater aquarium filled with coral and fish, as well as my partner who's great at giving hugs when the day's been rough. And of course, my editor and PA, who helps me keep life reasonably organized. At least so I won't walk out the door without wearing pants.
To be honest, after reading "In the Absence of Light" back in early 2017, I never really expected a follow-up book, but was stoked when I saw that this story was due to be released.
I completely adored both Morgan and Grant in the first book and found the topic of Morgan's autism as he found true and lasting love pretty groundbreaking, so of course I was happy to get more of that story.
I loved seeing the guys enjoying their Happily Ever After and watching them go through one more adventure together, this time in the form of going on a vacation, of sorts, to put Morgan's handmade sailboat in the ocean and sail into the sunset to rendezvous with destiny.
But for Morgan, thanks to his very real phobia of leaving home, making their way from rural Georgia to coastal Florida was almost the hardest part of the battle.
I say almost because, once they arrived at the place in the middle of the ocean that had drawn Morgan into making the trip, those events damn near killed them all.
All I've got to say is thank God for Dog, who definitely earned himself a lifetime supply of steak by the time all was said and done. He was an amazing supporting character and, since Morgan's pranks on the terminally-gullible were pretty much MIA in this book, Dog's training provided a bit of that missing special *spark* for me.
The angst was fairly moderate and the steam felt a bit high for my tastes, but the story definitely kept my interest, even if, when all was said and done, I kinda sort felt as if I'd been unwittingly led by the nose and plopped down on the doorstep of Jeff and Felix's upcoming book.
While I wasn't nearly as deeply impacted by this book as the first, I'd still rate it at around 3.75 stars and recommend it to any "In the Absence of Light" fans.

I really enjoyed this sequel. To be honest, I'd be perfectly happy just reading about Morgan and Grant bantering and doing their everyday things, but this story was more than that. When I started reading it, I thought I had and idea where it was going. Well, I couldn't have been more wrong.
I'd suggest re-reading In the Absence of Light before getting into this one, unless you remember all the details. 🙂
I absolutely loved catching up with one of my all-time favorite couples!!
Oh, how I missed you guys.
Morgan was still his awesome self and Grant was still head over heels in love with him... Well, they were both still very much in love, which means we also got some flaming hot scenes!!
There is one character that stole the show for me though... his name was Dog... I am saying "was" not because something happened to him.. so no worries :P
Lovely second installment and I can't wait for more... Jeff and Felix, please??!!
Fans of Grant and Morgan are going to be thrilled with Adrienne Wilder’s By the Light of Dawn. As in all of Wilder’s novels, Grant and Morgan have a unique and interesting relationship, and their romance is something very special. A follow up to their beginning, you’ll need to read In the Absence of Light first to appreciate this incredible series.
It’s been four years since I read In the Absence of Light, and the characters from that powerful novel are still at the front of my mind. Between the creative story line, and the heart melting romance of Grant and Morgan, Adrienne Wilder delivers what I consider an absolute must read in M/M romance.
It’s six months into their marriage and Grant’s devotion to Morgan is stronger than ever. When Morgan says they’ve got to pack up their sailboat and head to the coast, Grant doesn’t question it. We know Morgan’s premonitions are eerily accurate, plus once Morgan sets his mind to something… well Grant had better make it happen!
As in the first novel, this is Grant’s story, and it’s told in the first person. I’m in awe at Adrienne Wilder’s skill in conveying Morgan’s reactions through Grant’s eyes. This is Morgan’s first time outside his small hometown, and it turns out to be quite a journey. Heck, just getting the boat to the coast is an adventure that could be a novel in itself.
While there is some lingering drama from In the Absence of Light in this story, the main focus of By the Light of Dawn is the relationship between Grant and Morgan. The impact they have on each other’s lives is immense, and the intimacy they share is lovely. They have amazing chemistry, and we’re treated to some of Adrienne Wilder’s best erotica. (Clearly these two have been practicing, lol.)
Grant and Morgan hold a special place in my heart and it’s been wonderful catching up with them. Plus, there’s hope for more stories in the future. Adrienne Wilder adds a promising note at the end of By the Light of Dawn, urging fans to spread the word and we might get more stories of this incredible couple!
This book should have the subtitle: “Grant and Morgan’s Big Sailing Adventure”.
Although in romance a proposal or wedding are often the last thing we read about in a book, it is in fact a beginning, a new chapter, for many couples. I think nothing could be truer than this for Morgan and Grant.
I loved revisiting them to see how their relationship has developed since they got married, particularly as Morgan has decided to try and venture out from his safe world at home. With his autism, it’s a risky thing to do, and the hick-ups and set-backs are inevitable. But one thing’s for sure – Grant and Morgan are solid together.
The love between them shines through on every page, as they sort out misunderstanding and support each other. Grant sees Morgan for who he really is and loves him unconditionally, it’s such a beautiful thing to see, and Morgan opens up to Grant like to no other person, which in itself is the biggest statement of love he could make. The way they are with each other creates this really warm and cozy feeling you just want to revel in.
But there are also plenty of times when that warmth turns into sizzling heat– these guys are as hot as ever (and yes, Morgan’s still as bendy! 😉) Of course, Morgan is Morgan, and we are also getting some other ‘typical Morgan highlights’ to make us smile and chuckle.
The thing I wasn’t sure about was the notion that Morgan somehow has a connection to ‘something beyond’ that allows him ‘to know’ things. I have no idea if this is a possibility with autism, or if this is written on an author’s licence.
While things are great on the relationship front, there’s quite a bit of drama in the plot. Not being a sailor, a lot of the sailing detail was beyond me, but it didn’t really bother me much. I was surprised that we got to meet Jeff again, and see him in a different light - I’d (still) love a book about him! Ellis and Jon, an older couple from a previous series by the author, were new to me, and I was quite intrigued by them. Might be worth to check out their story!
Last but certainly not least is the actual star of this book: Dog - who does btw get a fitting name by the end. That roly-poly lab is scarily bright (a bit like Morgan, I guess) and totally adorable! (If I could I'd send my dog for lessons!😂)
This is a lovely sequel and I really enjoyed it. Have fun!
Not much happens with Grant and Morgan's relationship in this, but it was still awesome getting to see these to together again and get to read more of their love and just these two together and apart. They're great. And if you want to, re-reading the first book is probably a good idea, because I didn't and it took me a bit to remember things - like who Jeff was - and some things I totally forgot - like who Felix is.
But even if you don't re-read the first one, this is still very much worth reading, because I was still able to remember the big parts of Grant and Morgan's story, and it didn't take long to get into the groove of them and their relationship again, and falling in love with them all over again.
The main plot of this story is Morgan just knowing - like how he somehow knew with his abusive ex Dillon that he was gonna try to kill him in book one - that he and Grant have to sail down to Florida around some specific day, and so these two set off for Florida, and it isn't smooth sailing at all - both figuratively and literally - what with problems getting the boat Morgan built licensed in Florida, Morgan having a hard time outside of their small town, and with a storm out in the Ocean.
But eventually these two make it through, and come across Jeff and Felix as well, and this was definitely setting up their book or books, for sure.
Some people might mind that not a lot happened plot wise in regards to Morgan and Grant or that this is kind of like a nice, long epilogue with a few surprise twists and turns, but I didn't mind at all.
I was never even expecting a second book in this series, never expecting to get more of this wonderful couple, so any extra amount we got - like just getting to see these two married, being cute husbands in love - is just a cherry on top for me.
So I loved this, I enjoyed it a lot. I did give .5 off just because the ending felt a tad abrupt - like we didn't even get to see them go home? - but in the grand scheme of things it didn't bother me too much.
So overall, great second installment, I loved that we got to see these two again, in whatever capacity. Two massive thumbs up from me! <3
I enjoyed the first novel immensely but this one felt off.
I didn't enjoy how Grant deifies Morgan. I'd think Morgan is the kind of character who's just happy to be loved. I got tired of reading how extraordinary Grant thinks Morgan is. Or how lucky he was he got to love Morgan. I mean I get why he'd think that way but there was enough of that in the first book.
Additionally, I didn't care for Grant and Morgan's adventures at sea. They mean little to nothing in the grand scheme of things. I'd be more entertained by Grant's criminal past coming to disturb their idyllic life in Durstrand again.
The "bad guy" from the first book, FBI agent Jeff got a personality transplant. He even changed his physique and career history. It was like reading a Mary Calmes sequel. But in Calmes books we fuck logic in the face and enjoy whatever new journey we're being taken on. In this book, I didn't appreciate it because I was already sold on a Jeff x Felix sequel by the epilogue of book 1.
Maybe I'm more disappointed than warranted because I'm not feeling well and, you know, 2020. But this isn't the book I was hoping it would be.
A huge thank you to my 2020 Secret Santa for this gift.
I liked this and there were a lot of fun moments, mostly when Grant and Morgan were just teasing each other and bickering back and forth. I enjoyed seeing Morgan challenging himself by leaving Durstrand and going sailing in the boat he built. But beyond that, this story had no real plot or surprises.
That aside, this was largely filler, including recycled, overly-long sex scenes that I skipped; they bored me in the first book and I couldn't imagine they'd be more engaging here. That also aside, if it weren't for the pure joy of Morgan's discovery that he can leave Durstrand and can manage new things and experiences, there wouldn't be much to recommend this. There were also still too many typos, though it was somewhat cleaner than the first book.
So this was good but not great. And I'm suspecting this might be better read after book three, but I won't know that for certain until that one comes out.
Reading this made me want to reread In the Absence of Light all over again, swoon.... Yes, I loved Morgan and Grant but I have to say Dog really showed up everyone in this one! LOL Hopefully we get Felix and Grants story in the future and it was nice having Jon and Ellis in this book. ;-D
Loved it ! Just finished WAY too fast for me .... adore Morgan and love Grant ... Dog is pretty damn good too. A fabulous follow on from book 1 which is an all time favorite.
“I want you beside me at night, I want your heartbeat against my ear, I want my arms around you, I want to smell you, feel you, hear your voice.”
I would have taken anything he would have given me, even if it was just a touch, or a glance, or a word or two.
And I would have cherished it.”
It didn't feel like much happened, but By the Light of Dawn touched upon Morgan & Grant's relationship two years after their marriage as they embark on a journey aboard their Starry Night on stormy waves - fully intent on fulfilling Morgan's wishful dream of capturing the light at just the right moment - despite the challenges and hindrances he will have to overcome in order to reach that point of no return.
“But he was here, and I swore then like I swore every time we were together, even if all we did was listen to each other’s heartbeats until we fell asleep, I would never squander what he gave me.”
Every day, Grant is reminded of just how incredible a person Morgan is; and every day is a new day for learning why he is so incredible and why he shouldn't take him for granted (pun intended 🥰), or allow him to feel that he should feel any lesser than anyone else. It may have been two years since Morgan swept him off his feet - proved to him just how capable and independent he is on his own, but venturing into the outside world, away from the safety-knit of their homelife a is a stark awakening not only for Grant to see Morgan interact with others - crowded places, distracted hindrances, but for Morgan to test his own limitations and capabilities, as well. 🥺 'Even when you love someone, believing in them when nothing makes sense is really hard.' Despite how challenging it may have been for him at times, there was a softness to each moment - a gentleness that made his growth seem so much more rewarding - something so tender and important for him to achieve and embrace that part of himself - to realize it on his own. He had his rocky moments - for sure; but, I admired how he never allowed it to stop him - never let him get swayed away from feeling inferior or more guarded. It helps that he did have a precious guard dog at his side - always there for him and looking out for him. 😟🫂
It is a shame that the ending sets it up that there is a potential sequel in mind, one which has not yet seen the light of day. Sorry! I could not resist myself again. 😊 There are definitely surprise arrivals, unexpected reveals and some tender moments that allow Grant to reflect on the life he has given up for Morgan - 'how much I miss the ocean, the sunsets, being out on the water' - that part of his personality and life for so long that he did not realize how much he's given up till the FBI cornered him into the little town in Georgia. 😥 But, there is always a light at the end of a dark tunnel and his love for Morgan is something he would not exchange for anything - 'how he made each time with him a unique experience that reminded me just how lucky I was.' Their passion, their connection, this deep-rooted protective hold and love that binds them together, through the roughest seas, the tempestuous emotions and their heated embrace - it always evokes a feeling that they belong together - like an anchor - a safe harbor to shore. 'The gasps of pleasure, the pleas for more, the music I moved by.' 🫠🫠 No one else has ever made him feel as vulnerable - or so desired and so trusted - to believe in each other in their own ways. Grant does still have to restrain himself from stepping in to give Morgan a helping hand - always concerned for his well-being; but when those tables are turned, Morgan never fails to prove that with just a little faith and trust, he can surprise anyone. 🥺
“Anything you want.”
“No.” Morgan put a finger on my lips. “What do you want?”
“You.”
“You have me.”
“All of you. All the time.”
And they are happy and in love; they still care very deeply for each other and Morgan is never one to either mince his words or shy away from being himself; and honestly, I don't think Grant would ever want anything else. Everything about him is what made him fall in love with him - drawn to his ever-so charming personality and the admiration and respect he has for all that Morgan is - '—beautiful, quick-witted, and impossibly smart. Someone kind enough to open his heart to me.' ❤️🩹❤️🩹 His skills with his job, and his talents in bed - he's shown him things he never would have known; and it is a sad feeling to know that if not for Grant, Morgan would never have had the chance to live the world. That moment when he saw the dolphins and teared up, I teared up for him - 'I’m crying because I probably won’t ever see anything like that again.' It really was necessary to leave when they did - escape to the open waters against all odds - absolutely critical to risk everything to be here. 💕💌
I can't NOT mention the real MVP of their journey - Dog, who was really the hero of the story. Whether through the crowded hotel hallways, or the stormy seas, he was a beacon of comfort, a resourceful light and a trusted friend, one who Grant, painfully has to admit, is willfully trained and devoted to Morgan. He felt like he belonged to their small family and he definitely added an extra spark of humor to them, and was a safe anchor to guide their hearts back to shore. 😌 It was a hard-fought and fierce fight of survival, but By the Light of Dawn, they discovered what it means to have a home in each other and how the next step of their journey is one that makes total sense, one which will only have them set sails on even more adventures together, braving the seas with open hearts. 🫶🏻🫶🏻
Interesting mix between an extended epilogue and a sequel with its own story. This is more than just fluff, there is a drama filled adventure and Dog pretty much steals the show. Definite suspension of disbelief here. It was nice to re-visit these two as an established couple and I feel content with ending their story here.
I’m rather salty about further Jeff set up but no book for him *sigh
Nothing about By the Light of the Dawn worked for me so it was a huge disappointment following a book whose characters and story I loved so much.
There are a lot of reasons why it didn’t work for me, but the most important one is that I LOVED Morgan, just as he was, awesomely autistic, and Wilder decided he needed to be “more.” At the end of In the Absence of Light, we see a hint that Morgan has an extraordinary, possibly supernatural ability. In the sequel, that proves true. I’ve waffled back and forth with my feelings about it because having an extraordinary ability or “superpower” shouldn’t be restricted to neurotypical characters. On the other hand, why should a neurodiverse person need to be “more” or have some extraordinary power to be compelling or interesting? Nowhere in this story or the previous story are we led to believe that this is a paranormal world, so why throw this in? Morgan was fantastic and amazing and lovable and compelling, just the way he was!
Beyond that, I struggled with the plot and pacing. A lot. The first third felt like Grant thinking to himself and telling Morgan how much he loves him and how unworthy he feels of Morgan’s greatness and love. It got old real quick. I get it, Grant worshipped the ground Morgan walked on and put him on the highest of pedestals. Also in the first third, sex, sex, sex, and more sex.
The middle third, I was bored out of my wits and EXTREMELY skeptical of the choices Grant and Morgan were making. I skimmed a lot and really wanted to DNF. Now I’ve watched enough of the tv shows I Survived and I Shouldn’t Be Alive to know people make stupid, life endangering mistakes and under-prepare all the time when they’re boating, kayaking, mountain climbing, etc. but I still didn’t find the choices Morgan and Grant made credible at all. Worse, whenever Grant tries to get Morgan to slow down and take precautions, to plan more comprehensively, to be safe and smart, Morgan emotionally manipulates Grant accusing Grant of not believing in and trusting Morgan. It was never a matter of trust and always a matter of safety and justifiable caution yet Grant caves every time. Ultimately it puts them in life threatening danger multiple times. To me it didn’t feel natural, it felt forced and didn’t fit Grant’s character to be so wishy-washy and reckless.
The final third I was finally engaged but I was still annoyed with the bad choices they’d made leading up with the threats and danger that made the story immersive. Additionally while I had been looking forward to Jeff and Felix’s story when I finished In the Absence of Light, their part in By the Light of the Dawn has, sadly, killed my interest. Finally, the new characters we meet in the very end seem great and you can tell there’s backstory there but it felt like they were thrown in to plug another one of Wilder’s series. I know authors do this all the time; I don’t typically mind it and often I appreciate it but in this instance, it didn’t feel organic and seamless to me, it felt oddly shoehorned into the story.
This review is brutal, I know and I feel awkward and bad leaving it but because In the Absence of Light was so lovely and the sequel so unexpectedly unsatisfying, I honestly wish I wouldn’t have read it. For me, it tarnished the good feelings I had for its predecessor. The reason I persevered was because I wanted to know whether or not By the Light of Dawn was critical to understanding the next book in the series, Jeff and Felix’s story, The Darkest Hour. To me it feels like I could have skipped this story and it would be fine.
Though not adding my star rating at this time, in my heart it’s a super disappointed and disenchanted 2- stars.
Its actually taken me a little bit of time to come to my rating for this one as I just wasn’t sure how I felt about this one, and I’m still struggling to verbalise it.
What I liked I love the bits with Morgan and Grant, they still have such a great chemistry and the comic bits were well done. I enjoyed seeing Morgan trying new things like leaving his home and the food at the hotel. I very much enjoyed Grant’s absolute faith in Morgan. When Morgan said they had to go, he went no questions asked. I did at the same time question parts of this, as he left without knowing where they were going and without the proper supplies some of which were food on a journey for an unknown duration and location, it just seemed very irresponsible to me.
The parts I didn’t like The reasons for the boat trip in the first place. I’m more than happy with Morgan being able to read people but this just went to the right and kept going and didn’t work for me.
I still really want to read Jeff and Felix’s book, so I look forward to that
THIS IS NOT A DRILL! "IN THE ABSCENCE OF LIGHT" NOW HAS SEQUEL!
***** HIGHLY RECOMMENEDED LIGHT*****
Title: By The Light Of Dawn by Adrienne Wilder
First, if you have not in fact read "In The Absence Of Light"... What are you waiting for? This book is a beautiful romance, an amazing love story, chalk full of feels, sexual and mental representation, redeemable and lovable characters, absolutely stunning writing, and so much more. #AllTheLove
Now for the sequel! Why read this book...
1. The Characters... Morgan: A 23 year old autistic gay man who survived and succeeded against all odds. #OneOfAKind
Grant: A 34-year-old ex bad boy, who met Morgan, fell for him, left his old ways and got domesticized. #AWholeNewWorld
2. The Plot: This book is all about Morgan and Grant...their relationship a year after "In The Absence Of Light". Morgan is on a mission and Grant cant refuse him a thing. #WrappedAroundHisFinger
3. The Romance... The romance between these characters is just beautiful. Devotion, communication and total surrender to their feelings. #EpicLove
4. The Heat... The book is steamy, with a dash of sweet and a lot of heat. #Flavorful
5. The HEA.... Morgan accomplishes his mission, loves Grant and is ready to go home. #AllIsRightInTheWorld
A catch up with Morgan and Grant. Still happily married. This one follows them on a trip on Starry Night that Morgan finds absolutely necessary to make and as the story goes on we find out why. Not sure if this was a setup for a story between Felix and Jeff. I do not think it really added much to Grant and Morgan's story. Also, it was bittersweet seeing a cameo by Jon and Ellis. So happy they are together but the mention of them reminded me of Rudy's brutal death. I could not get through their series after that. Overall, just an ok read for me.
The first half of this book was tedious to read. I almost gave up on it multiple times. Part of the problem for me was I felt like the previous book ended in the perfect spot and I didn’t really feel the need for another book in the series. I was happy with where we left Grant and Morgan.
The second half of the book was better. Once Grant and Morgan got on the water the story picked up a bit and I was able to finish it rather quickly. Still it was pretty predictable, and nothing really happened that wasn’t telegraphed a mile away.
Mainly, the book was pretty much a bridge between Absence of Light and Jeff’s story and while somewhat enjoyable, I could have skipped it and been just as happy. I do want to mention Dog. He was in my opinion the best part of the story. All in all, the story was okay and didn’t really live up to it predecessor.
When there’s a longish gap between one book and the sequel, sometimes the characters’ voices change. Not so with this one. Grant and Morgan rang true.
The author clearly researches a topic and presents the events without sentimentality. Morgan’s meltdown at the hotel due to his autism was frightening but told in the way Grant went about coping.... because he loves Morgan. We need to be patient with those we love, even when it’s hard or not pretty.
I loved the mystery why they were at sea and the catastrophes they faced.
Wow. This was so much more than I was expecting and honestly, I don't think I ever actually expected this to become a series.
I am so freaking glad I did a re-read of In the Absence of Light before reading this because this story picks up right where we left off. A refresher was definitely needed and appreciated.
This was a great continuation of Grant and Morgan's story and I am just going to leave it at that. I don't really have the words to express just how much this story made me feel and I am sure some other lovely review writers will do it for me.
Just know, if you fell in love with Grant and Morgan in the first book, you will fall all over again and more so in this one.
I don’t actually think it was the books fault - in fact I think it was book 1’s fault. Book 1 was just too good, too much of a significant book that book 2 to me seemed just like an extra long epilogue that although I liked catching up on two of my all time favourite MCs I didn’t need it.
I never realised but do now that book 1 was just the right amount for me.
I hope everyone does read this book and can enjoy it maybe like I did - just an update on how M and G are doing in life. I can’t give a higher rating book i don’t feel like I read this as a whole book I read it as a an update. I’m not making sense but I am in my head!
This was sweet and beautiful. I had some issues in the first 40% of it, Morgan being extremally out of place, making Grant act like a caregiver and not as "The second half" but t as soon as the boat hit the water things got better. I loved the unconditional love, the way Grant was basically "Trained" to be perfect for Morgan. I loved there was not a single doubt about both men feelings.
I re-read In The Absence Of Light right before reading this and I’m glad I did. It had been awhile and I needed to remember all the details from that book in order to enjoy this one even more.
The first half or so I’d rate 3 stars because it was really just Grant and Morgan setting out on their trip and even though seeing Morgan struggle was needed I liked the second half of the book, once they got the boat, better.
The last part when they finally get where Morgan needed them to be and the conclusion was really good. It sets things up too for Jeff & Felix’s story which should be epic! Painful but epic.
It was so wonderful re-visiting these amazing characters. I am really happy we got this story.
To say this was a surprise would be an understatement. I never even imagined we'd get a sequel to In the Absence of Light but this is one of the best gifts ever!!!
This book takes place almost a year after the first and is written entirely from Grant's POV. Grant and Morgan are back and still ridiculously in love. Morgan is my favourite character of all time. He is so smart and quick witted and I thoroughly enjoyed the banter between him and Grant.
This cannot be read as a standalone as you need to read In the Absence of Light to understand a lot of details. Adrienne Wilder has a way with words that just completely pull you in. Absolutely spectacular and highly recommended to all fans of Grant and Morgan.
Add in a boat, hot sex scenes, some surprises and Dog who is simply amazing, this book is a winner! I would love to see more of their adventures on Starry Night and I'm really looking forward to Jeff's book.
For him , I would do anything. He not only had my complete trust: he had my faith.

"Dog, who after almost six months of living with us, still didn’t have a real name. No matter what I suggested, it didn’t fit. Dog fit because he was a dog, and until he was something else, he’d continue to be Dog."
I was okay with the amount of suspended belief and unexplained phenomena in book 1. I knew reading the blurb going in there'd be some unexplained phenomena action but this was one of those sequels that ruins Book 1. Maybe, if I'd had to wait five years between the books I would have felt different... but I didn't.
Things that annoyed me in no apparent order (so many spoilers ahead): - the plot - Morgan's boat (which he built by looking at illustrations, no instructions) withstands a storm better than a professionally built larger one - the man overboard retrieval - The sting + the retrieval + the second retrieval ... it was just so much condensed drama it felt like a bad film - The sex scenes are LITERALLY THE SAME as in book 1 just in different locations (because as you know, they leave Durstrand). Telling me how hot it is, is not the same as making it hot. Same autofellatio, same blow-job and anal and vice versa, same semi-public-old-women-are-watching-sex (w/ Morgan's knowledge and w/o Grant's consent) - the plot (deserves repetition)
The best thing about this: Dog (although I'm still mad about the name they ended up giving him)
Well if you enjoyed Book 1, don't read Book 2 unless you're a fan of unexplained phenomena
NSFW infos: Two out gay men, vers (albeit not perfect 50/50 split)

I was so happy to get to visit Morgan and Grant again. They are so amazing! I know it's got to be hard to navigate a relationship for both of them but they really are good for each other.
This was an interesting story and I am so happy the author kept Morgan as true to character as possible. His first real trip away from home was bound to be overwhelming but he is just so damn strong and thankfully he has Grant back him up when needed.
I love that although Grant wants to protect and do everything for Morgan, he respects his autonomy and respects him as the amazing person he is.
There is a little bit of a supernatural element but it is sort of is what is and isn't really addressed.
I have really enjoyed this author's books so far and I can't wait for the next in the series.
I adored In the Absence of Light, and this follow-up to it was fantastic. Grant still isn’t perfect and makes occasional mistakes but he has faith in Morgan, as well as unshakable love. This was quite an adventure, and I can’t wait to see what’s going on with the other guys!
