“Bouncy: The Basketball That Couldn't Bounce” is about a basketball who is feeling down for not being able to bounce like the other basketball's. Bouncy meets a friend named Cal who can hopefully change the mind of Bouncy.
The story reflects the ideas of inanimate objects having human-like characteristics. Though Bouncy is a basketball player he still has feelings of sadness not fitting in with the others. His friend Cal is able to talk and relate to Bouncy, offering help and that he is capable of more. Bouncy has feelings, but begins to understand that he may be good at other things. When trying to do new things and learn different skills, Cal is there offering help and motivation with his words. Cal wants to remind Bouncy that he is special, as Cal sees what Bouncy is capable of. Without Cal, Bouncy would have remained sad, but is able to learn that there are other things someone can be good at, with the help of others and hard work. The images show Bouncy with eyes and mouth capable of both talking and displaying emotion. You see how upset Bouncy is not being able to bounce, but also the excitement of learning new activities. Cal is also seeing offering help and the joy of seeing Bouncy’s confidence rise.
