3.7 stars, I liked this well enough as a continuation of the series. Audrey continues her ghostly adventures with Ben and Co, her relationship with Kade has finally progressed ( thank the stars) to boyfriend territory, and she’s finally a legit PI 🙌🏾🙌🏾

Review:

The characters are well rounded and well developed. Audrey, Ben, Kade and Audrey’s family are quite a cast of characters and I enjoy getting to spend time with them. Audrey has a lot on her plate, getting ready to take her Private Investigators exam. She has a client who wants Audrey to find a missing necklace and ends up with a dead client. Audrey will just have the add finding the killer on her to-do list.

The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The author is very talented in her descriptive and these descriptions pulled me into the story from the very beginning. The mystery was well plotted and I was surprised who the culprit was. That is a good thing in my book.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a cozy mystery. And if you like ghosts with your mystery, even better.

Once again Jane Hinchey has entertained and entranced me with some rather fun and interesting characters. This series is about Audrey, her best friend Ben and detective Kade who solve mysteries or murders. There is more to it than that. See Ben is Audrey's best friend from childhood who now happens to also be a ghost ( you have to read book 1 to see how that happened) that only Audrey can see and talk to. That makes some pretty funny scenes in itself. Then there is Thor, Ben's cat who Audrey has inherited, who can also talk and only Audrey can hear and oh the things that stinker of a cat says. Belly laughs are promised.

These four characters lead us through murder investigations, corrupt police, and some rather funny stories. This is the 3rd book in the series that has captured my attention and has me eagerly waiting for the next installment. Well written mysteries with well thought out plots and the best characters to discover the answers with. I can highly recommend this to all!

Audrey has a new case, and a date for her Private Investigator Exam. It is a simple case of a missing necklace, that the client thinks was stolen by someone she knows. But things are never simple with Audrey. She might not be the most graceful person, but she solves her case and there are lots of laughs along the way.

THE GHOST IS CLEAR : (Book 3 Ghost Detective Series) : JANE HINCHEY.

HINCHEY SMACKS A GRAND SLAM HOME RUN RIGHT OUTTA THE BALL PARK!!!

A return to form with another fabulous light-hearted rom/com murder mystery with mayhem & madness from Queen of the Cozy's Jane Hinchey with 'The Ghost Is Clear!' I swear I had a great big dopey grin plastered across my face the whole time reading this book. I enjoyed it that much.

Jane's Cozy’s are a good fun clean read without all the over the top sex scenes & bad language that some don't like and are a great for any age 8 to 108!
But I must admit she is the Queen of Scream with a 'Love Scene' & I prefer the bad language / sex scenes as its always tactful, tastefully done & never over the top when used compared to the clean reads, but that's just me.

The great action continues, and we see more realistic cases here than in book 2 which are totally believable with Private Investigator in training, Audrey Fitzgerald. And having a cop as a boyfriend, in Detective Kade Galloway, who technically should go by the book, but more often than not doesn't when it comes to his mystery solving missus by involving Audrey in police business.
Its often for the best, smarter & safer for all concerned if this head strong woman is under his care & guidance as her official sponsor as a trainer, than having her going off half cocked on the spur of the moment without thinking through situations, scenarios & the serious life threatening consequences to them.
But seriously there's no telling this stubborn blonde what she can nor can't do & I certainly wouldn't want to be the one packed into Cowboy Hot Pants, Hot Pants in that situation!

Unfortunately I found both of Ms Hinchey's last 2 books 'Give Up The Ghost' and Book 5 of 'Witch Way To Secrets And Sorcery' rushed (something quite out of character for this author).
So it felt great reading this book & not finding or feeling the pressure of those demands in this book.
We all know about deadlines & the pressure readers place on authors to publish the next book as quick as possible. Then everyone's world was turned upside down late 2019 /early 2020 by all that Covid-19 encompass and I must admit I am extremely impressed with Jane, her body of work, her ethics for not letting any of these pressures, demands or the stresses rear their ugly little heads throughout this book.

Give up the Ghost is packed to the rafters with all the great murder, mystery, mayhem & madness that a Hinchey Cozy is known for. Heavy on the action, with Easter eggs dropped here & there if your truly paying attention & all the usual likeable, not so likeable, loveable & down right love to hate characters & the drama-arama its known for.

Although I find the storyline still a touch unrealistic, but only for one reason.
It must be hard for Galloway being a good honest cop.
Kade's undercover at Firefly Bay Police Department to uncover & weed out the crooked, dirty corrupted cops from the good guys & girls in blue.
But being both Audrey's boyfriend, he's breaking the law & police procedures himself by involving Audrey as he's also her supervised PI trainer all in one.
He's such an easy going bloke, not showing struggling or stresses , but he's more than blurring the lines here.
Its a bit hypocritical & he too could be charged, reprimanded or lose his job too.

Realistically I just don't see how the Cop in him would involve an uninitiated Private Investigator (one without a licence throughout most of this book & the past 2) into situations that are way out of her league and just too dangerous for a rookie with someone of Audrey's capabilities and lack of training.
And considering how clumsy this woman is & her firearm training goes that' saying the very least!

But in saying that, this series is coming around. Hinchey is finally showing the realities of a PI in training h what one must learn & go through.
These aspects have been severely M.I.A. from the first 2 books.
So kudos Jane, for me this aspect has been sorely missing & I couldn't wait for its involvement in the story.
Makes things more legit & believable too.

This story is beginning to perfect sense, with lots of sweet and touching moments between Captain Cowboy Hot Pants & Audrey, Audrey, her family & Kade and some of the other characters, especially those involving the very sweet and dearly departed Anita Finlay, her family, her BFF!
Loved the laughing out loud moments too, but no where near enough Thor action for me. This zany mouthy little fluff ball with the stiff upper lip, appetite like Garfield & stomach to match, is one charming smokey coloured British short hair with matching accent.
A Kitty with 'Tude!

Audrey has great instincts, but often acting before thinking situations through, often getting herself way in overhead, confronting suspects that are just as likely to bump her off, than confess & turn themselves in. She outright accuses 3 people of murder with no backup!
She seems to believe the best in people (those she's accusing, hello i.e. criminals & murderers) thinking they will open up & tell her the truth! It's not like she's a cop, & when do criminals ever tell the truth anyway?
Audrey really needs a corporeal partner at Delaney Investigations or should be reporting some of her actions & movements to Kade or a secretary, letting someone know her whereabouts & intentions as a meaning of back up in case something goes terribly wrong (as it's so often does).
Ben being incorporeal literally has his hands tied behind his back & can't help physically, but at least Thor can dial a phone! MeoWow!

As much as I say this, its hypocritical as one of the aspects we seem to love the most about Audrey, is she goes off on her own tangent and doesn't think about the danger she's putting herself or others in.
So on the one hand, I love that she takes the initiative, but on the other I think it's absolutely nuts because she doesn't think about her own safety or that of anybody else.
Perhaps it will come with more training and experience, after all Audrey was only an office temp before Ben's untimely passing and inheriting Delaney Investigations.

Would love to see a lot more of the training aspects coming into the story as Audrey direly needs more training : firearm, hand to hand combat / self defence (a kick to the groin is often ineffective on men & doesn't work on women. Smarter safer techniques taught by self defence teachers are a swift kick to the knee with the heel, a clap to both ears, throat punch or eye gouge with straighten fingers or stamping on inner feet/ toes which are all much more effective. And desperately needed is Drivers Ed for defensive driving, dangerous conditions and high speed pursuits.

Fitz might have great instincts, but is a bit of a klutz & definitely jinxed & constantly getting into situations one really doesn't want to be in, and although she aced her Private Investigators written exam, she still has a long way to go & is reckless, but loveable, but thinking her famous Fitzgerald kick to the groin will always get her out of trouble is actually irresponsible teaching & an out dated method!

A well written with fabulous characters who you just adore. And again as always We need more Thor action, please?
Ms Hinchey has a gift when it comes to character development and several other aspects of writing.
They say there's something about Mary, [sic] but I say There's something about a Hinchey 'Bad Guy', even the one's masquerading as 'Good Guy's, hiding behind a badge and uniform.
As much as I want this scum Mills to get his comeuppance (just desserts), I love this character & don't want him out of the series. Audrey needs her very own antagonist in Officer Mills as her nemesis. He plays well off both Audrey, Galloway & at times even his partner. After all what was Holmes without Moriarty or Batman with out the Joker? But seriously what is this guy's beef, there's been no clue yet, can't wait for the big reveal

I received an ARC of this book from the author and as always this is my fair, honest and impartial review.

I RATE THE GHOST IS CLEAR

Audrey Fitzgerald, her ghostly best friend/private investigator, Ben, and the always hungry cat, Thor are on another exciting mystery regarding a missing necklace and a murder at the local historical society event.  Audrey is up to her neck in trouble along with studying for her PI exam, an overweight cat, and being in a hot romance with Detective Kade Galloway.   Audrey and Ben believe the murder and the necklace theft are linked with several other crimes, so they must find out who is behind the mayhem in Firefly Bay Museum in this twisty new adventure.

This third installment is a fun lighthearted read that I have enjoyed in the previous two books.  The characters are quirky with a sharp sarcastic sense of humor.  Audrey is a fun and smart woman, when she is not thinking about Detective Galloway.  Ben is a great addition in this group, only Audrey can hear him and he does provide a good dose of common sense when Audrey goes off the rails during the investigation. Detective Kade Galloway is a great boyfriend for Audrey’s crazy romantic ideas that sets the stage for some funny romantic scenes that are a staple in this series.

This book continues with the trademark snappy conversations that are in the first two books. Audrey does have some work to do to become a skilled private investigator even with Ben and Kade's help.  Ms. Hinchey does character development well, so I look forward to seeing Audrey becoming a more confident and successful investigator in future reads.

This series is a great fun addictive read that is highly entertaining with interesting and spirited characters.  I cannot wait for the fourth adventure of Audrey and her crew.  I hope to see a book set of this series so readers can read all these crazy mysteries of Audrey Fitzgerald and the citizens of Firefly Bay over a long weekend.  I was given an ARC for an honest review.

Oh boy, Audrey is in deep again. She has taken a job with the president of the Historical Society to find a stolen diamond necklace. While the necklace has no real monetary value it has great personal value and Audrey is sure one of the other HS board members has something to do with its disappearance. One day and a boring dinner later, she has no clues as to the thief, but now she has two ghosts to contend with. Her client has been murdered and has joined Ben in dogging her investigation. A possibly cheating spouse, a not-so-nice best friend, a spoiled son, the same HS board members - who wanted Anita Finley dead? Detective Kade Galloway is still in the picture and has managed to get himself invited to Audrey's parent's house for a family dinner. It is almost time to take her detective's exam, which Ben is helping her study for, and her arch-nemesis on the local police force still hates her. As the investigation becomes more muddled with the addition of a priceless painting, Audrey is just hoping she can figure out who the heck stole the necklace so Anita can be buried wearing it.

A great addition to this cozy mystery series. Read them all so you can join in the fun of a woman who has her dead best friend helping her out as a ghost, a cat who talks to her, and a boyfriend who actually doesn't care that she has a hard time walking and chewing gum.

I was given an advance copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.

While Audrey is days away from taking her PI exam to be a full fledged PI to officially take over her best friend Ben's PI business, she is hired by Anita Finley the president of the Fire Fly Historical Society to find her necklace that seems to be lost. Under the guise of helping Anita catalogue an estate that was left to the museum, she attends a special get together of members. Here she is introduced to many of the members. To add to the humor of this book is that Audrey is a major klutz! While Audrey looks for Anita since she was supposed to have a meeting with her, she goes out to the Kelsh Estate only to find it a major dump heap. She calls to Anita who appears in the doorway. Realizing Anita is a ghost (Audrey can see and talk to ghosts), she checks out the rest of the house and finds Anita's body. Ben shows up with her and can see Anita as well, you see Ben is a ghost too and has been helping Audrey with his business. And so goes the investigation into Anita's death. With so many suspects, but no discernable movtives Audrey has her work cut out for her! This is a fun and great addition to the series and I can't wait to see what Audrey falls into next! I received and ARC from the author but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

That’s me. Audrey Fitzgerald, ghost detective. I’m finally coming to terms with the fact that I can not only communicate with ghosts, but animals too. Well, one in particular, my big gray teddy bear of a cat, Thor. What I haven’t worked out yet is how to keep my newfound abilities a secret from the townsfolk of Firefly Bay.
When I’m hired by the president of the local historical society to find a missing necklace, I figured I finally had a case that didn’t require ghostly interference. After all, how hard could it be to find a missing piece of jewelry? Things turn complicated real fast when the necklace turns up in the most unexpected of places and my client turns up dead.
Now I’m up to my neck in ghostly chatter, I have a murder to solve, my PI exams are looming, I’m worried I may have to put Thor on a diet, and I think I’ve accidentally fallen for Captain Cowboy Hot Pants—aka, Detective Kade Galloway. But worst of all? What on earth do I put on my business card without scaring off the townsfolk? Amateur sleuth, PI in training, ghost whisperer, or ghost detective?
This is a good book. The killer is the most unlikely one. I borrowed this book from Kindle Unlimited. This in no way affects my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

Lots of crimes, lots of suspects, lots of fun

Audrey has a lot on her plate in this book. Trying not to talk to her ghost best friend Ben in public, studying for her P.I. exam, keeping a phone intact for more than a week, trying not to swoon too much around her deliciously wonderful boyfriend Captain Cowboy Hot Pants, keeping her mother happy, and last but not least, refilling Thor's food bowl every hour. It's a miracle she has time to take any cases but that girl is very determined to make Ben proud.
Audrey's latest case starts out with a missing necklace and ends up not only finding the necklace but also solving a murder as well as another few crimes no-one knew about along the way. Audrey has lots of suspects, lots of potential motive theories, and not unexpectedly, lots of accidents.
Jane has done a great job in weaving all the crimes and all the suspects together in a complex web that is not easily untangled. I enjoyed Audrey's interactions with Ben, Thor, her family, and most of all, with Kade. They are all distinct characters with their own voices and such fun to read about.

I cannot find the right words to let readers know how completely addictive and hysterical this series is. Ms. Hinchey has been one of my favorites for a long time. These characters take that to a whole different level. I don't know how many times I had to put this down because I couldn't stop laughing. Audrey is days away from taking her PI exam. She has also 'labeled' her relationship with Kade. If you add on a new case and a murder, she definitely has her hands full. The twists and turns will really keep you guessing. I thought I had it figured out at least three times. I was wrong.......every time. Audrey and Kade also took it up a notch, meeting the parents and a few (closed door) moments. The relationship between Fitz and Ben....it's touching. It can make you smile and cry at the same time. Thor will always manage to steal a few minutes in each scene. As he should. Another amazing hit for this author and I can't wait to see where she takes us next. I full heartedly recommend this series and the author.

Oh goodness, I could not stop laughing my way through this book! Loved the feeling that this story was taking place at Halloween! You're going to have to see if I was right in my thinking or not. It all had to do with things that Ben said and what we saw through Audrey's eyes! Where do we find Audrey at? What do we find her doing at the beginning of the book that had me giggling? Who is Anita Finley? What surprise was in store for Audrey at her location? What was she expecting and what did she get? Who are Keagan, Noreen, and Mary? Why is Anita mentioning them to Audrey? What happens when Audrey is supposed to meet Anita? Oh boy, Officer Mills in deep doo-doo in this book! What did he do this time? I cackled long and loud! Karma is gonna bite him on this one! Oh lord, this is one of the funniest murder mysteries I have ever read! Especially with the gifts at the party and what happens! I love Ned and Jayce. The ending was a shock as to why!

Audrey takes on a case where Ben thinks is a total waste of time. Her client has a missing diamond necklace. What Ben could not anticipate is that the client would end up dead. Audrey also is studying to take her P.I. license as well. Her run-in with her mortal enemy (police officer) is so irritated with Audrey that he has taken his anger out on her and wrapped his meaty little paws around Audrey's neck. Kade partners up with Audrey and they end up opening a whole can of worms in this book. There is a painter restoration guy who is hawking valuable paintings on the black market and another member who is scheming money from a construction company and let's not forget the murder. this book was full of surprises. Now I am not sure what her brother was thinking of with Audrey's clumsiness. The description of the issue with the taser had me chucking in the most horrible way. Shaking my head at the antics that Audrey manages to get herself in unsuspecting.

Audrey has quite a romance going with her beau Galloway, a hunky police detective and PI. He hasn’t yet completed his efforts to end the corruption with the local pd, but they have a growing network of officers they think they can trust as they work to clean up the department. One officer may have brought himself closer to bringing at least himself down when he loses control in front of witnesses

It is too late to save Ben’s life. He seems stuck as a lingering ghost while the department issues linger. Will their resolution set Ben free? Will others join Ben in death before all is said and done?

As Audrey progresses in her studies to finally become licensed as a PI, a variety of changes pop up with her family and with Audrey herself as she adapts to being in a romantic relationship

A spirited, humorous and bittersweet story!

Another interesting and exciting adventure with Audrey, Ben, and Captain Cowboy Hotpants, aka Detective Kade Galloway. This time, Audrey finds herself trying to figure out who killed one of her clients, Anita Finley. Anita had hired Audrey to find a lost necklace, but it turns into so much more. Again, Audrey finds herself in the middle of a murder case, with two ghosts offering her guidance.

I love this series of books. They’re humorous, romantic, and page-turning. The mysteries are involving, keeping you guessing as to who really was behind the crime.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a light, interesting, and comedic read.

I received an ARC of this book from the author. I thank her for her generosity, but it had no effect on this review. All opinions in this review reflect my true and honest reactions to reading this book.

On a case at the Firefly Bay Museum Audrey Fitzgerald of Delaney Investigations, along with her ghost best friend, Ben, has been hired by Anita Finley to find a missing diamond necklace. In the middle of their case, when she and Ben find a body Audrey calls “Captain Cowboy Hotpants,” better known as Detective Kade Galloway her newly minted boyfriend. Although Galloway is the detective in charge of investigating the death that does not stop Audrey from continuing her search for the necklace. Who knew the cases would intersect? I love, charming, klutzy Audrey and her best ghost friend. Learning on the job to become a true PI is as hard as she imagines, but Audrey is up to the challenge. This is my honest, voluntary review of an advanced reader copy of this book.

Great paranormal cozy mystery with awesome characters!!!

I love Jane Hinchey's Ghost Detective series and The Ghost Is Clear is the best so far! It has everything I love about cozies including friendship, family, humor, awesome characters and an interesting mystery that kept me guessing until the end. Audrey Fitzgerald is a Private Investigator in training and a Ghost Detective who helps ghosts resolve their deaths. It all started when her best friend Ben is murdered (in book 1) and leaves Audrey his PI business, his house and all his belongings. Now Ben is a ghost and helps Audrey solve murders. She also gets help from Detective Kade Galloway who is her boyfriend. This is a fun, paranormal cozy mystery that will keep you guessing until the end.

A delightful, engrossing and scintillating adventure!!

As this is the third adventure of Audrey Fitzgerald, readers are familiar with Ben, the ghostly best friend and Thor, the adorable British short hair cat who talks and complains.

The way Fitz ( Audrey's short name) figures out the mysteries involving embezzlement, murder and the shenanigans involving the illegal copying of a famous painting forms the content of this brilliant book. One needs to read this masterpiece to enjoy the book to the fullest extent!

The narrative is exemplary, the characters Kade, Ben, Anita, Audrey's family are all appealing and endearing!!

Thanks very much for yet another unputdownable book, Jane!! I am off to read the next book in the series!!!

It doesn’t take long at all to be completely involved in this latest installment of the Ghost Detective series. Audrey is close to getting her PI license, but she has a murder to help solve first. I kept thinking I know who the murderer was, but I was completely wrong. Audrey is a great character, and I just love her to death. She is lovable, fun, and smart. Her ghost friend Ben is also a great character, and I’m glad the author doesn’t use him too much to help Audrey solve crimes, and her boyfriend Captain Cowboy Hot Pants…Cade…doesn’t try and stop her. She can stand well on her own. All of the other side characters are just wonderful, too. This latest is a great addition to the series, and I think this is the best yet, and this is my favorite series by this author. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Audrey Fitzgerald could not escape being around ghosts! With her love affair progressing and having taken a big step in her career Audrey was ready for more action and that was what she got. A robbery that turned into a murder! Two for one. An interesting and mysterious case that had me immerse in the drama following the clues and eager to know the outcome because nothing was as it seemed. Clumsy Fitz had more than one collaborator in this case and with a strong emotional charge. Liked the plot development with detailed narrations and descriptions and twists that kept me intrigued all the time. Lot of suspects, amusing scenes, a supportive family, romance, danger and ghosts' help.

The Ghost is Clear, the third novel in the Ghost Detective series, is a fun, quirky read. Audrey Fitzgerald, ghost detective extraordinaire, is a busy girl. Not only is she studying for her upcoming PI exam with her boyfriend, detective Kade Galloway, but she has also been hired by the president of the local Historical Society to solve the mystery of a missing necklace. With Ben, her best friend, (did I mention he’s a ghost?) by her side, she can’t fell. Unfortunately, her client turns up murdered. This is another great cozy mystery by author Jane Hinchey. Though they are stand alone, you get so much more out of them if you read them from the beginning.

I'm torn. On the one hand you can't help but love Audrey and Kade, Ben, Thor and the gang. Adorable really. On the other hand I found that her antics were starting to get a little old or rather the opposite. Juvenile.
Admittedly binge-reading the first three of them back to back might have emphasised that feeling.
Her OTT clumsiness, commitment issues, or difficulty dealing with emotions, relationships and the like screamed of Peter Pan syndrome.
It also didn't help that there was basically no mystery this time.
I might pick this series back up at some point, but for now I'm afraid I've had my fill.

What’s With the Cheese

Rating: 4/5

This was a good book dknt get me wrong. It definitely amped up the cheese factor. I’m still pretty sure Galloway thinks that Audrey is insane, and is just humoring her about the ghosts, and I’m pretty sure her family belongs in a circus.

The mystery in this one was a little weird to me. I feel like Mary’s reason for killing Anita was really lame. And the fact that Mary wasn’t even a suspect until right before she was caught as the murder was a little flimsy. But the overall quality of the book was pretty good.

I’m exciting to read the next book.

once again, sooo sweet!

If you like serious, fast-paced suspense… this isn’t for you.

If you like tons of descriptive 🌶 scenes, not for you.

If you like a book that you can cuddle up on a comfy seat with a cup of coffee/tea and a warm blanket, this is for you.

There’s attraction, fade-to-black “adult time”, an alpha male who is PERFECT (understanding, patient, smart, strong, and loves the FMC for her quirks), then this is for you!

I truly like the female main character. She’s ditzy and clumsy, but she’s also got bite! Her sarcasm, “just go with it” attitude and the desire she has to see things to the end make her so likable!
