Hugh Drake, the most whimsical member of the Drake family, wants a clutch badly… and despite his sanctioned period to reproduce nearing its end, he just might get his wish. New information has emerged that suggests Disgraces are dragons and able to bear eggs. All that’s left to do is find one Hugh can tolerate, and who better to help him find his perfect match than his steadfast and faithful secretary, Finch?
If only Finch were a Disgrace, but alas. Some things simply aren’t meant to be.

Sensible and straightforward Finch has served as Hugh Drake’s secretary for over a decade, and secretly loved him for just as long. Hugh is the light of his life, but he’s also entirely too gullible, which is why Finch refuses to believe his claim that Disgraces are dragons. They’re not. Finch would know, since he is one. But that little fact will have to stay a secret, because Finch would rather his love go unnoticed than be the one who breaks his dragon’s heart when he fails to produce a clutch.

Finch is an 80,000 word hilarious omegaverse mpreg-ish romance set following the events of the Forbidden Desires series. It contains an adorably clueless dragon, a faithful secretary whose heart is invested in more than just his job, the best Funfetti cake ever, “slippery” situations, and a single amethyst cufflink. For maximum enjoyment, Finch is best read following the events of Clutch, Bond, Mate, Swallow, and Magpie.

That was gloriously good

I don't think there's a single thing the authors could have done to make this book more perfect, other than kept on writing more of Finch and Hugh's lives together!

The best bits of these books are always when Everard Drake starts to use pet names for the potential mate, at that point the reader knows the narrative is going in one direction only - to a happy ending!

Hugh is so gloriously clueless that he's in love with his secretary and as his gestures get ever more extravagant, even Finch starts to think he might get what he's always wanted.

I also appreciated the angle the authors took with Finch's absent dad and the scenes back in England were seriously funny and really sweet.

Hugh and Finch are fabulous together, they're sexy and also just lovely. Hugh really does need someone to properly watch over him and Finch is masterful at it.

This series, and the Forbidden Desires one it span off from, are among my all time favourites.

Now, what's going on with Perry and Sebastian, what's Bertram's secret and who is Bran aka Raven?!

Hugh just wants a clutch and Finch just wants to stay by his side. But, if the first happens will the second?

I think "clueless" is the word thrown around in reviews, right? Yep, but not just Hugh. Finch was a little on the "head-in-sand" side himself. Once the two get their heads out of their assess (their own, not each others, though that comes later) it was very sweet and swoony.

This is a great series and I can't wait for Perry & Sebastian's story. And what I'd really, really like is more of Daddy Grim and Wally.

Haven't laughed this hard in a while

Finch is quirkiest and funniest story of the entire spin-off series .
And Hugh is only second to Harry as my favorite character in the entire Drake Dragon's world building.

This was such a fun, laughing out loud, irresistible sexy read.

Hugh is quite naive and innocent. He retains the intuition and the awe of a child and has never lost his sense of wonder ; considering he is a few hundreds years old dragon that amazing. To me it's what makes him truly special.
Finch is also an awesome character. He is the balance and the grounding that lets Hugh be who he is. Theirs is a relationship of complete harmony as they compliment and make each other stronger.

I enjoyed this book so much and read it in one sitting. Literally, didn't move until I finished it. Finch it's a very quick and fast paced story.

Yes, I recommend it and yes, I will definitely (not to be confused with defiantly 😁😂😉 LOL) will be re-reading it. Now, I am just counting the days until the audio version is released.

Don't wait RUN and read this book. It will lift your spirits and leave you in a wonderful mood.

Two words... MARIJUANA. FUNFETTI. I won't spoil it so, go figure why. 🤣🤣🤣

Finch is my second favorite omega/dragonet in this series BUT my new favorite Drake dragon is now... tadah! HUGH! There were no proper words to describe how ridiculous, clueless, and sometimes adorable Hugh was. This man was such a precious giant reptile. He's so high-strung that I wondered for a bit what would happen if Harry was paired with him. It would've been a disaster. His character was not only entertaining and fun, he's also the most attractive just by the fact that of all the Drakes, he's the one who's been longing for a clutch for centuries. Serious baby fever.

“All I ever wanted was a clutch, but now I have the potential to gain so much more. The stakes are higher than they were before. If I make a poor choice, it could mean a lifetime of unhappiness, but how am I to know what a poor choice looks like?”

He's so blinded by his dream that he can't see what's in front of him all along. Finch - who had unrequited love for Hugh for the 13 years he's been under his employ. It hurt my heart to watch Finch prepare everything needed for Hugh's ball so he can finally meet his potential mate and build a family. Yes... ball. Channeling Cinderella here, where Cinderella was not from the village but was actually the Attendant. 😂😂😂 But Finch, our dearest Attendant did all his best to make everything possible.

That's when Hugh realized Finch was the greatest treasure of all and his dragon decided he should be part of their hoard. LOL Although frustrating at times, I enjoyed Hugh's unconscious courting of Finch. Funny how treasures ended up in places Finch frequent and it was adorable and cute despite his employer's cluelessness.

“Well, it’s my professional opinion as a celebrated medical doctor that my brother is unwittingly courting you. I believe it’s all relatively harmless. For now, continue to humor him. If the situation escalates, I’ll step in and assess his psychiatric health. Father always was concerned poor Hugh would snap one of these days, so I suppose this shouldn’t come as a shock.”

“It’s not very traditional, but… since you’re not a Disgrace, I wasn’t sure what else to do, or how else to keep you. I… I want to know if you’ll be part of my hoard. I’ll take care of you always. Anything you want, no matter how much it costs, will be yours. You’ll be my living treasure, and I the dragon who guards it jealously. Will you let me keep you forever? Will you accept the role of the most precious treasure in my hoard?”

Of all the pairs, Hugh and Finch has the dumbest but funniest unintended shenanigans. They also had the sweetest fluffy moments and confessions. And before I forget, this was a slow burn romance and they had the hottest scenes in my opinion. Whew! 🥵🥵🥵

Also, Raven finally showed himself in this installment with Bertram in pursuit of the omega. There's also foreshadowing for Sebastian and Perry's book.

Overall, Finch and Hugh is so endearing and it was a blast rereading this book. If I had to choose, this is now my favorite of all the books in this series and Bond is a VERY CLOSE SECOND.

“The more hands we have on dick, the better.”
“Do you mean on deck, sir?”
“What did I say?”
“On dick.”
“Oh. No. That isn’t right at all.”

Reread/Relisten: April 2024

Okay this one is my least favorite of the series lol. Hugh is annoyingly oblivious, and Finch doesn't do much to help him out haha.

Original Read/Listen: May 2021
Audio: 5 Stars
Book: 3-3.5 stars

Both Hugh and Finch both needed to get their heads out of the sand and see what was right in front of them.

I will say that because of the (I don’t know the right word...) cluelessness or innocence of Hugh when he was high I don’t think I could have laughed more! That whole scene was great.

Also again another human baby was born... and again decided that is not what I am going to enjoy. I can deal with eggs or something not human but once’s a normal baby comes out of the butt that’s where I’m like ehhh no.

I am definitely interested in what happened to Perry since he wasn’t at the birth of Theodore, I hope nothing too bad!!

What would I ever do without you?

Be prepared to hear Hugh say this over and over to his assistant, Finch, as he searches for his mate. This novel was adorable 😱❤️😱❤️! Now for the skinny skinny:

Hugh...what can we say about this member of the Drake clan?
He’s desperate for a clutch...
He’s handsome...
He’s sweet...
And he’s absolutely CLUELESS...
His cluelessness is endearing, yet at times just absurd.

Finch...our efficient omega is
Desperate for Hugh...
Hiding a secret...
Very proper...
Extremely efficient...
And he’s purposefully blind to the truth before him...
His blindness is understandable, but makes me want to slap him.

Get ready for
Seeing Hugh get high...SO FREAKING FUNNY!
Two rats who terrify a dragon...
Steve...❤️ yes, he makes a couple of cameos...
Funfetti...*snorts*
Sexy times in a dragon’s hoard...😱
A visit across the pond!
An HEA ❤️

My rec? Best enjoyed as part of the series, but could be read as a standalone—but, come on, red them all in order because this series is SPECTACULAR!!

Ohhhhh HUGH! You dumb dragon!

I mean that in a loving way, promise! What a naive, innocent, that-went-over-my-head Drake brother, and I just loved him. Hugh is the brother that has been desperate for a family of his own from the beginning. He enlists the help of his favored secretary - Finch - not knowing that he shouldn't be looking very far at all for his perfect mate.

Finch is a disgrace/dragonet - although he prefers to keep that a secret. He grew up during a time when being a non-shifting-dragon was viewed as shameful, and doesn't believe in the breakthroughs that Harry and Everard are researching and testing. He's in love with his boss, Hugh, but doesn't want to disappoint him by not being a matched pair.

I LOVED these two idiots HAHA. All the little moments of Hugh unknowingly courting him, of mistaking wanting him as part of his horde not just WANTING him, and these two stumbling together on the way to love.

I also loved all the cameos from the other couples. While I guess you could read this as a standalone - first off, why would you want to when there's a whole story for Harry LOL, and I do think you'd enjoy it more reading in order. There is a growing overall story arc of bringing equality to the dragonets and I just love that. And I love seeing the kids growing up (OMG DARWIN!) and how happy everyone is. So much to love with this series, I just adore everyone.

Now these two have got me curious with Perry's past and what's going on with Perry and Sebastian, and I'm SO glad we are getting a story for them next! And we need a story for Bertram.

I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Escapism at its finest. Hugh, aka Puff the Magic Dragon, is indeed whymsical, a dreamer. Finch, the beautiful, stoic, dragonet, so tied down by preconceived notions. Their love story was the only focus here. I loved it.

Crazy old coot dragons, interfering brothers, missing fathers, pet rats and even Steve, the ever loveably well dressed Iguana 🦎.

Tidbits of tediousness here and there but easily forgiven. You can definitely say that each book in this series is succinct. Commendable.

I don't look too closely, or question every little thing. That's not what these books are about. They're meant to be fantastical, funny, witty and sexy. Pure unadulterated enjoyment.

Dragons, you slay me. 🐉💜🐉

Poor Hugh is so clueless it's funny and kind of sad. He'd be totally lost without his secretary Finch...too bad he doesn't realize that Finch is who he needs.
Great story, loved the pet rats.

This cannot be the end...we still have to find out what's going on with mysterious Bertram and how the rebel omega Bran fits into all this. Is there an underground movement to liberate the cloisters?
Also curious about Perry and Sebastian...is he sick or something? I'd love to get their whole backstory.

As usual, I am enamored with this series and was beyond excited when I saw a new book had come out. The Drake family is full of quite dynamic characters who are very different from each other but there's also a lot of love and protectiveness.

I was kind of confused when I read this was about Hugh because I honestly didn't remember him from the other books. It had been a while since I had read them but still it didn't ring a bell.

Hugh was a delight and very undragonlike in that he still had a sense of innocence even though he was like 900 years old(?). He was such a sweetheart who I wanted to wrap up in cotton wool. More than anything in life he wanted to be a father and I wasn't sure if really thought that the mate part was very important. Or maybe he just didn't believe he would find love like his brothers did because it was fairly rare in the dragon world.

Then there's his attendant, Finch, who was beyond capable and perfect for taking care of Hugh and his household. I would've liked to have known a little bit more about him because until around the last third he was a somewhat wooden character with a bit of a one-dimensional personality, but that could've been just what was needed for the story progression.

Anyway, I am looking forward to the next one. I am not sure if there will be more than that or not because there's another brother and it seems like there might be a Sebastian and Peregrine story as well.

I really like Hugh. Even though we don't get to meet him before this book, outside of comments from his brothers that he really wants children, he was endearing enough to carry the book on. Plus add a bit of hilarity to the mix. And Finch is very much his perfect omega

This book should come with an attention: prepare yourself crying hard because of laughing.
I can't tell you how many times I laughed so hard my tears flowed.

This book is everything. It's not a secret that I love the Forbidden Desires series, but I thought Magpie is the best...and now we have Finch, and let me tell you, this book is really, really the best in the series. It has everything you want from a romance, everything you need in a dragon shifter book, and everything you never thought you need in your life.

I have only one question: why the title isn't HUGH. Because wow, I never, never dreamed that Hugh would be this cool. I fell in love with him so easily, and (fight me, but) he is the most precious thing ever and the best Drake brother! Hugh is really something else, I loved him in every scene. I couldn't wait to read the Funfetti cake scene, and holymoly, it was more perfect then I thought it would be.
And Hugh on high with marijuana - I can't. The marijuana and the funfetti cake is the two best thing in this book.
So yeah, Hugh is just perfect. So adorable, I have no words. Love him so so much.

Finch was a really great character, and it was interesting to read about his insecurities about being a Disgrace. Finch and Hugh relationship was just too cute for words. The most romantic book ever.

I loved the other dragons and their mates, and wow the little dragons and dragonets.

The heat scene was really good, and I loved the whole courting process when Hugh gave his treasures to Finch in secret. Hughy is the sweetest.

I'm happy now, because the ending was really sweet, but I have a bad feeling about Perry. I know that finally he and Sebastian are the next in line, but I'm afraid what is happening with them right now. So hurry up, please, I want Perry happy.

I really wanted dragon babies, but after seeing Hugh so happy with his dragonet, I think I'm happy with it too. Hugh as father is the most perfect thing ever.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4 stars

Finch is the third book in the Forbidden Desires series spin-off universe. While the three books in the main series all directly connect with the story arc relating to the Disgraces/dragonets, the spin off books tend to stand more individually. However, familiarity with this world, particularly with the first trilogy, will be a big help here in understanding the world building. Hugh has been a background character throughout the series, and it has been clear how much he wants a clutch, and how upset he has been to not be selecting for the mating experiments that might have found him his match. So it was fun to get a chance to meet him more directly, as well as see him finally get his happy ending.

OMG, Hugh is such a darling and delight. He's totally absentminded, and without Finch, he would be totally lost, but he's such a wonderful character.

Finch is so steadfast and loyal and he loves Hugh so much. It's hard for him to be able to believe everything he's hearing about dragonets, which means he knows he's going to never be able to have Hugh, but he will still do everything he can to stay with the man he loves. I thought that Finch was such a sweet man, and he really needs Hugh so much.

I think that these two might be my new favorite couple in the series, and that's saying something in a series that contains Everard and Harry.

I hate to say it but I finally hit a book in this series that was only so-so. I liked it but I didn't like the voices the narrator gave to Hugh and Finch. They actually sounded too much alike to me and in all the previous books the voices were distinctly different. I also really couldn't tolerate Hugh. A bigger wuss has never been written. He was so clueless, so fainting, fluttery, etc. I can't even name enough adjectives to describe how bizarre he was.

And smart, organized, sharp-witted Finch failed miserably to see what was in front of him as well. I may have to say goodbye to the Drakes since I think the authors have run out of ideas.

This book was AMAZING. Probably tied with Bond for the best book in this universe, and definitely the best book within this spin off series. I just absolutely adored Finch and Hugh. Finch was so put together on the outside, but yearning for so much more, especially his alpha dragon boss. And Hugh, sweet, naive, adorable Hugh wanted a family so bad and didn’t even realize when his family was right in front of him. I am genuinely sad I finished this story, as I would do anything to be able to still be reading it. It’s funny, fluffy, sweet, sexy, literally everything you need in a book.

3.8 - 3.9

This book has a bit of a different feel to it.
One MMC is from England, the dragon is American and both have a fine professional relationship of the Sir and his secretary. The whole story with its dialogues and events had a touch of that old school english gentlemen feel to it, it was charming and wonderful, but it didn't go further in this particular direction. Unfortunately.

😈 Omegaverse - dragons
🟣 Alpha/omega; t/b
🟢 Employer/employee
🟡 American/English
🔵 Romantic; a mature omega
🌶️ Passionate sex

Finch is a hidden Disgrace omega in his late 30's working for Hugh Drake. They work seamlessly together, they complement each other and Finch is almost like a Cinderfella here; he's hidden in the shadows, lives in (needless) shame for being a disgrace and is in love with his boss .

This was my dashing couple.

Up until the ball-to-be , I was very excited for their love story to unfold. Hugh was absolutely clueless as to how he actually feels for Finch and Finch's only worry was the fact he can't produce a clutch - something that Hugh desperately wants.

The ball seemed glorious. Amazing. Old money elegance and prestige - and yet nothing came of it. Nothing happened. I honestly thought Hugh was going to profess his love for Finch at that ball and that will turn out to be a ball in Finch's honour.

But no such luck.

The ball didn't even happen apparently, because Finch was drugged and that was a turn of events I didn't expect, neither liked .
Finch was then taken away by Hugh and they spent Finch's heat together, so that was something, I guess, but after that - again a turn of events that simply dampened the mood for me.

I really wanted for Hugh and Finch to continue with that old sophisticated english countryside with butlers and gardens and fantastic balls energy. So sad it didn't happen. Too many side characters were present - this is the first time I've felt like it in this series and it took away the spotlight from the main couple. This should've been a book only about Finch and Hugh, noone else.

I did like their intimacy, their spicy sex life, it was hot, passionate, amazing . They were great together and the idea of a mature omega and his sexy, hairy dragon making love amidst of precious stones was absolutely wonderful. I know we've had this visual already in other books, but in this one it really touched me.

It was close, it really was. This book had the means to be a wonderful romance, somewhere in the line of historical romances with dashing gentlemen going to barber shops, fitting their new suits and going together to a ball, I mean, it really really had that spectacular potential.

Even so, I am keeping Finch and Hugh in my fondest memory. They're absolutely one of the best couples in this series.

These two are kind of a delightful mess of confusion. Hugh Drake is desperate for a mate and offspring. He is sweet, caring, generous, and a bit awkward and flighty. He relies heavily on and is attached to his secretary, Finch.

Finch identifies as human, but has some secrets. He is organized, neat, and a perfectionist. He is devoted to Hugh and keeps his life and home running smoothly. But his perfect facade, hides insecurities and fears.

Hugh thinks he has to look elsewhere for a mate and is running out of time. Finch is too scared to admit his background and is afraid of failing Hugh if he does. They cannot see answers that could be right in front of them. But sometimes, even with the most oblivious of men, destiny finds a way. And even then clueless men can still manage to make a mess of things.

There were times I wanted to shake sense into these characters, but they were also just so cute, hot, and adorable together. They seriously made me smile so much.

I appreciate how the ancient rules of their dragon world keep changing to be more inclusive and accepting in each book. And it is always fun to visit with all the crazy Drakes. I am ready for Bertram's story and I am curious what is going on with Peregrine.

How perfect is Michael Ferraiuolo's voice for Hugh? That character is so seriously silly and adorably clueless - I loved it.

A very cute story, and while it's not as intricate of a storyline as some of the others, it's a really nice romance. Espescially good in audio :).

Oh my word! Hugh is the most adorable dragon and I think I may have a new favourite *gasp* (sorry Everard!).
Finch is your typical self-depreciating, hair-shirt wearing, humble servant. He is completely loyal to Hugh and is completely sure that Hugh is far too good to him. In his mind, Finch doesn't deserve to be thought of well by Hugh - especially not as adored as Hugh begins to act. Even if Finch has been in love with Hugh for many, many years. He knows he can never have him that way.
Hugh is a massive marshmallow - until he needs to go into protective mode. And I think I may just have completely combusted when it happens. It's my new favourite kink (marshmallow Dragon going into fierce protective mode - that's a kink, right?).
This is book 3 in the spin off series - and you really must read all the Forbidden Desires books as well as the spin off books before this one to get all the wonderful inside jokes and to comprehend the wonderful cast of characters that Piper and Virginia (Lynn) have created here. Honestly - it will change your life and make it so much better and more fun! JOIN US! LOL

At long last the time has come for Hugh’s story!! As an avid fan of the Forbidden Desire series I was delighted to finally sink my teeth into this. It was everything I was hoping for and more!!
Hugh, as we readers have glanced from previous book snippets, is the only remaining Drake sibling without a clutch despite wanting one. What we haven’t seen before is his sweet, goofy charm. He’s so pure-hearted and naïve. I just wanted to pinch his cheeks then ogle his abs. But poor sweet Hugh is also lonely and ready to start a family. He’s been trying to have a clutch for centuries and must stand in the sidelines as now nearly all his brothers are mated and with healthy broods of children. Even his father is expecting a new child… Hugh can no longer idly watch his brothers bask in the sweet glory of fatherhood. Taking new Dragonet/Disgrace research into account Hugh decides to hunt for a mate of his own. In secret he will court an omega who has aged out of the Pedigree and finally have the family he has craved his whole life for. But how will Hugh know when he finds the right omega to stand by his side for eternity?

Finch is a loyal attendant of the Amethyst clan. Orderly, tidy, and near neurotic compulsion for cleanliness, his reason for being is to make Hugh Drake’s life as easy as possible. He happily serves his dragon, who is too kind and naïve for his own good. For 13 long years he has put his heart into Hugh’s household. Maybe too much of his heart. And some late night dreams as well. Oh! How will he bear it if/when his beloved dragon mates another omega? The only worse fate would be winning his dragon’s heart only to disappoint him by not conceiving a clutch. Dooming his beloved to a childless life.

As Finch battles with his heart, clueless Hugh starts to realize a few things about him. Like how calming Finch’s presence is. How pretty Finch is. And how badly he needs Finch in his life. These two dunderheads were totally adorable. I just wanted to smoosh they’re faces together. On top of that we get some heart throbbing teasers for the next two books, Raven and Peregrine. As well as the most awesome kid’s birthday party ever! Darwin is the cutest 7 year old in draconian history!

I graciously received this as an ARC and offer this honest review as thanks! ^_^

Release date is September 30th.
