Hawthorne Brothers #3

Breaking The Bro Code

Rate this book
I’m a rule follower, always have been,
Nothing says OFF LIMITS like your best friend’s little sister,
But the moment my lips touched Claire’s,
I threw the whole damn book out the window.

I know, I broke “bro-code,”
And I deserved the punch to the nose I got for it.
I can have any girl I want…not cocky, just facts,
And of course I had to fall for her.

Kissing her was an accident,
Hooking-up with her was a mistake,
Well…is it still a mistake if you did it a few times?

I know I’m an idiot,
I should have told him,
I shouldn’t have let him find out when he caught me making out with her,
The night before his wedding.

Hiding my relationship with Claire was hard,
Hiding my feelings for her,
That’s a secret I’m not sure I can keep any longer.

The third book in Ashlee Price's Hawthorne Brothers series, Ryker gets his time to shine in Breaking the Bro Code.

Ryker has grown up with his best friend, Joel - and has watched Joel's little sister grow up as well. When she is nineteen, he realizes what a beautiful woman she has become, but before he can act on his new attraction, Joel warns him off. Fast forward seven years and Joel is getting married, and Ryker and Claire are asked to be the best man and maid of honour, and to plan the joint wedding shower together. Claire has always had a crush on Ryker, and finally the feelings both have had spark.

This isn't just a forbidden romance - though the book takes us on that journey as Ryker is plagued by guilt over being with Claire behind Joel's back. But there is a lot of character growth, especially for Ryker. Claire is a perfect match for him, not just because of their ridiculous sexual chemistry (this is a VERY steamy romance!) but because she sees Ryker as he is meant to be and wants him to have the life he wants - not the life that pleases everyone else. It's also a book about friendship, and the relationships between Joel and Ryker, and between Natalie and Claire, are both enjoyable to watch as they grow and change.

Now I must run off to catch up on the first two books in the series - I definitely need to read about Ryker's older brothers and get the lowdown on Ethan and Asher's love stories!

Ryker has known Claire for most of her life.  She is his best friend's little sister.  He was there to help when she was sick.  He was was there to help teach her to ride a bike, cheer her on at soccer games and help with her math homework.  He always knew she would be pretty but when he sees her at a Christmas party when Claire is nineteen he realizes just how beautiful she has become.  And he knows he must stay away from her.  His best friend would never understand.  Claire has loved Ryker for as long as she can remember.  She has always just been the little sister.  Claire has traveled the world and is a well known chef.  Now she has come back to Chicago to spend the holidays with her brother and attend his wedding.  When Claire's brother asks Ryker to be the best man and Claire is asked to be the maid of honor, the two are thrown together planning wedding showers and bachelor/bachelorette parties.  Can the two keep their feelings for each other in check?  Can they make it through the wedding without a knock down drag out fight?

This is a wonderful story of friendship, family, and finding your way in the world.  The characters are well developed and lovable.  I love Claire's sassy independent spirit. She has worked hard and followed her dreams. We see how Ryker is torn between his love for Claire and his loyalty to his best friend. This is a steamy, HEA, no cliffhangers book.

Ryker finally gets the one he loves!!! This is about Ryker and Claire. Claire is Ryker’s best friends little sister, someone he has know all her life and seven years ago fell in love with her, but stated that he couldn’t do anything about it as her brother, Joel, would kill him for breaking the Bro code! The story is about these two and the wedding that they are both planning for Joel and Natalie as best man and maid of honor.

Claire is a chef and has been all over the world and loves what she does, so coming to Chicago to be with her brother on his wedding day was expected, of course she had no clue that she would be asked to be the maid of honor and especially being stuck with Ryker when seven years ago, he didn’t want anything to do with her. Ryker knows that he needs to be good especially as he doesn’t want to Joel to be disappointed in him. The drama between these two is funny and frustrating at the same time, they are both adults but act like children at times. Of course, Ryker’s brother Asher is himself in this book even if he only has eyes for Violet, his role with his younger brother is good. Note, it gets good when Joel catches Ryker with Claire!

So this is the third book of the Hawthorne brother as Ethan is engaged with Stella who is pregnant (book 1) and Asher and Violet are now a couple, but not engaged (book 2), but now the question is will there be a book 4 for the drama and the weddings for all three brothers? I love these brothers.

Get ready for a roller-coaster ride of two adults who can't make a decision and stay with it

Breaking The Bro Code is the third book in the Hawthorne Brothers series. This time it is Ryker who falls, or should I say already fallen in love. There is only one slight issue......Claire is his best friend Joel's younger sister. So she is in the middle of the "NO GO" zone. But the heart wants what it wants, along with other parts of the body which seem to perk right up when they are around each other. When Joel is getting married Claire comes back to town and is unexpectedly asked to be the Maid of Honor. So now Claire and Ryker are paired together at the wedding. Well what else are a single Maid of Honor and Best Man supposed to do but pair up and have some fun. These two end up going back and forth so much it is like a see-saw.
This story very much follows the trope "best friend's little sister/brother's best friend" with a number of the cliches. The characters were nice but there was a lot of unnecessary drama as they went hot and cold, on and off, over and over. It sort of lost me as I kept thinking "these two are supposed to be adults so make a decision and face the consequences of it". Claire and Ryker did have a great chemistry and the story-line has a lot of potential but it just lost me in the end.

I received a copy of this book for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.

Utter contentment
This book is about Ryker and Claire. They have both had strong feelings for each other for seven years, and not said or done anything about it. Ryker is her brother Joel’s best friend, so he is adamant that he sticks with the ‘bro code’ of not going after his sister, despite how he feels. He puts his best friend’s feelings ahead of his own, subsequently putting Claire’s feelings last too.
It’s a fun and frustrating game of cat and mouse throughout the story. There are highs and lows, secrecy, deceit, betrayal, hurt and forgiveness. The entire cast of characters (their siblings and their partners) are all intertwined in some way, and have their say on their feelings and a possible relationship. He really needs to learn what’s most important, to not just others, but to himself!
It’s both sweet and steamy when they finally get together – each and every time gets hotter I think. It’s emotion-filled and I did find myself wondering whether Ryker was worth the chance(s) given to him, because of the many times he hurt Claire. I did however feel that the story ended too abruptly. I wanted to know more about what happens next for these characters. It was an enjoyable read, and I give this book four and a quarter sizzling stars.

Brother's best friend is hot. I get it. And Claire doesn't care. She wants him regardless of who his best friend is. There is a lot of back and forth between the characters but they can't help their feelings. After they are thrown together, you kind of think Claire will cut him some slack, but meh, no. Instead she kind of does a little passive aggressive dance with Ryker. As for Ryker, he really does love her, but he doesn't want to hurt his best friend. Pretty admirable really. Although Claire doesn't see it that way. As a grown woman, she can make her own decisions and her brother will just have to get used to it. And I have to say the steamy bits were awesome! But you will have all kinds of emotions with this one.

My one complaint is that at times I wanted beat Claire over the head. She should know that you don't use someone's insecurities against them. Not if you really do want to be with them. Heck, even if you don't. That's just wrong.

I liked the plot (although maybe not all of the characters), and I did really like Ryker. Overall I liked this book. Not as much as the other two in the series, but still a good read to see Ryker get his HEA.

Great forbidden love story.
Loved this Hawthorn brother series & Ryker & Claire's was just as fab. Even though Ryker was his big brother Joel's best friend she couldn't help falling in love with him & wanted to be with him but each time she thought they could be together Ryker kept kept running away after sex saying they shouldn't be together which hurt Claire. They were in charge of her brothers wedding shower so had to spend time together but is was getting harder for Claire & each time she took him back agreeing to keep anything between them secret until after the wedding he would leave her again. He wasnt happy working at his Dad's company & she told him to follow hus dreams instead of other peoples but he couldn't seem to do that either. As the story went on I just wanted to jump in & give Ryker a slap & tell him to man up & if he did care about Claire then tell Joel & kept hoping he would. I was hooked waiting for Claire to get her happy ever after as at times it looked like it might never happen. There was great characters, fun, mega hot sexual chemistry, tears & love.

Ryker is best friends with Joel since childhood. Claire is Joel's little sister only she's not so little anymore. At a Christmas party Ryker sees the changes in Claire as does his brother Asher. Claire is a striking beauty that he can't get off his mind. Claire's had a secret crush which only burns brighter when she shares some chemistry with Ryker during a private moment at the party. But then the BRO CODE kicks in and since Ryker has loyalty to a T for Joel, that spark .. well let's say the BRO CODE interferes. Happenstance has Claire and Ryker running into each other again.. will the BRO CODE cause another casualty? Steamy scenes and HOT sessions once Claire and Ryker are thrown together to plan a wedding shower. Could this be their HEA? Can Joel see the man that Ryker is and will be for Claire? Or will the BRO CODE be a means to the end. This was a gentle read with good feelz and some angst. I enjoyed reading this storyline.

I thought this was just an ok book! When I read it I thought ok this is going to be something I am going to want to read. Well it was but then when I started reading it I thought WTH. It was a good book but I felt that it just was expressed as over the top. Now the reason I say this is this. Ryker I totally loved and his ability to put others above himself was very appealing to me. I like a man who does not think of only himself. Claire well she seemed to me to be very selfish and only out for what she wanted and did not matter as long as it was for herself. I do not cater to characters like her as I am more like Ryker. But with that being said the writing was pretty good and the world building was actually great. The characters were written as the author intended but not geared towards the premise as I saw it. But who am I? I am just a reader. If I am being honest. I would read more from this author.

Well, this was the best of the series (by a long shot) but it still was super cheesy and unsatisfying because it was really unrealistic.

Reasons why this book was better than the others:
-Our main characters, Claire and Ryker, are actually likable. Although both have moments of jumping to conclusions and immaturity, they, out of all our H/h in the other two books, have some semblance of reason and maturity. Ironically they are the youngest.
-Their career journeys are interesting and different because it's not just some vague business that the reader had to suffer through in the other two books.
-I love a long-standing crush storyline and the fact that they both had feelings for one another for years is sweet (why Ryker never texted Claire back over the years is dumb tho)

I much preferred 'The Secret to Dating Your Best Friend's Sister' (The Bromance Club #1) by Meghan Quinn, it has the dating your best friend's sister story but imo it's done way better.

Claire has always had feeling for her brother's best friend Ryker but never thought he'd feel the same. Ryker wants Claire but doesn't want to lose his best friend in the process so he fights his feelings for her. However when they are paired together to work on her brother's wedding its hard for them to fight their attraction. When they give in and finally are together Ryker feels guilty because he broke the code between him and her brother bu being with her. Claire tells him that he needs to make a decision either she comes first or her brother does. Will Ryker throw his own happiness away for his friend? Can Claire forgive him and give him another chance?

This is a great story that will hook you in the first chapter on. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

Congratulations to Ms. Ashlee Price for another incredible installment to The Hawthorne Brothers Series.

Breaking the Bro Code surrounds the last single Hawthorne Brother, Ryker as well as the object of his affection for the seven years, his best friend's Sister, Claire Parker. After a party at his Family's home, each have secretly lusted/loved the other, however, neither made a move. Now that Claire's back, for her Brothers wedding and neither one wants or can not contain the attraction, their chemistry explodes. I encourage all fan's of romance to follow along as these two characters get their much deserved happily ever after.

I was beyond fortunate to have requested an advanced reader's copy of Breaking the Bro Code in exchange for my honest and voluntarily given opinion. I highly recommend reading this release as well as the Series as a whole.

The blurb for this book caught my attention. I really enjoy the trope of brother’s best friend/sister romances. The characters have known each other since they were very young, and Clair and her brother Joel are especially close since their parents were killed in a car crash when they were pretty young.

I really struggled with finishing this book because of what I believe was sophomoric drama, unnecessary drama! Both Ryker and Claire (over)react like teenagers and spend little to no time trying to work through things. Instead they fight, break up, ignore each other for varying time periods, and then have a big hormonal reaction to the other and jump right back into having sex. I lost count of how many times they break up and get back together.

This story has a lot of potential, the writing is strong and the author has an interesting storyline - I just don’t enjoy reading such an angst driven story- you might love it though - readers have different interests. My 3-star read may very well be everyone else’s 5-star read. My rating does not reflect I think poorly of the author or her writing skill, just that this story really didn’t resonate with me as a reader. If you enjoy this trope and enjoy angst reads this might be a perfect for you.

I received an ARC from the Booksprout and the author and am voluntarily leaving a review. This was my first book by this author so I can’t say whether this book is or isn’t typical of her work.

Forbidden love that has been kept apart for years and finally combusts in Breaking the Bro Code.
This is my first book in this series, so I didn’t have any of the back stories to reference. The characters told their story via switching POVs. This was really important in and done well. I found myself hoping to hear why the Ryker was acting a certain way and the next chapter would be told in his voice explaining his thoughts.

The storyline was predictable, but in the best way. I only wish there was an epilogue with more of the HEA life (or wedding?)

Overall, it was a good book. I would go back to read the other books in the series.

I really wanted to love this book, but I cannot look past how bratty and immature Claire was!
She started to fall for her brothers best friend Ryker, but both tried to forget their feelings, until Claire decided she wanted to go after Ryker. There was a little back and forth where Ryker tried to fight his feeling for Claire, to try to be a good friend to his best friend, Claire’s brother.
This is where I started to dislike Claire. She was very immature and got mad and stormed out many times, and would wait for Ryker to come back to her.
While I liked the idea of the story, I really started to disliked Claire.

Poor Ryker is torn between his loyalty for his best friend Joel and his love for Joel’s sister Claire. When they are forced to spend time together for an upcoming wedding the feelings, they share only grow stronger and they decide to keep their relationship hush hush. Ryker is feeling guilty because of his loyalty to his best friend Joel and so him and Claire go through the up and downs of whether to be together or not.
Ashlee did a great job with this story and I loved the fact that she showed how Ryker was a true friend and considered Joel’s feelings. Yes, there was plenty of push and pull along with drama but there was no denying the love and chemistry that Claire and Ryker shared.

While reading the first few chapters, I felt like something was missing. Like I missed some backstory. I realized too late hat the book was part of a series. Although it can definitely be read as a stand-alone, for me, that gnawing feeling never really went away. I also didn’t feel much chemistry between the main characters. I felt like wanting to skip pages a few times. However my biggest issue was with Claire. It bothered me how many times she EASILY went back to Ryker. This guy repeatedly lets her down, puts her last everytime and barely fights for her. I thought she forgave him way too easily.
Overall the story was okay, I just needed a bit more.

This is the third book in the Hawthorne Brothers Series. This is Claire and Ryker's story and it's a sweet one. Ryker and Claire's brother Joel had the bro-code and that was his sister was off limits. But then she grew up and things were different. This was a sweet romance with a friends to lovers theme. They were so perfect for each other and their attraction was so strong that in the end love just won out. Some brother drama but in the end an HEA. The characters were likable and the story had a good flow. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This story is full of pushes and pulls between the main characters.

This is the story of Ryker & Claire. They've known each other for most of their lives. Claire's brother is Ryker's best friend, so basically Claire is off limits. They are attracted to each other as adults. They both have a major flaw each. Ryker puts everyone above himself and is always there to help whoever needs it. Claire, to me, puts herself first and expects Ryker to do the same. This story makes you think twice about the issues they have. Even though there is a disconnect between them, they still love each other. Everything works out in the end through compromises. This is a very steamy story.

This is the third book in The Hawthorne Brothers and it doesn't disappoint. This story is focused on Ryker and Claire and all the drama that goes along with a best friend and little sister hooking up. The characters all have a connection as they grew up together. Claire and Joel are all they have after their parents died so as adults, Joel's bestfriend knows Clair is off limits but that doesn't stop him when he sees her as a grown woman. Will Ryker be able to keep his hands off Claire and how will his relationship with Joel be affected? Really good read with great characters.

Ryker has been interested in Claire for years... but she's his best friend's younger sister. What's a guy to do? Well, for starters it seems like all he can do is treat her poorly, leaving her confused. They'd known each other since she was three... so why can't they be friends? Can they continue to fight their attraction, or will being pulled together as maid of honot/best man be the thing that pushes them over the edge. Plenty of sexy times in this story, and drama as well. Will their secret being revealed at the worst possible moment ruin everything? Or will they be able to rise above and make peace...and have HEA? Read and find out.

Sometimes you have to go for what will make you happy even if it breaks the bro code. Ryker has always put others ahead of himself so he feels guilty when he doesn't. I hated how he was hot then cold to Claire when he would feel guilty about betraying his friendship with Josh. He was a good friend but for quite a bit of the book, not the best boyfriend. Even with all that, I did like him. Claire was great. I loved her adventuresome spirit and how she helped others. She was a wonderful person. The two of them together were perfect but they both had lessons to learn along the way to their HEA although Ryker needed a few more lessons than Claire.

THE BRO CODE IS A BARRIER TO TRUE LOVE

I received this book for free and am giving my honest and voluntary review

Ryker has been infatuated with Claire when she was little and love with her when he saw her at a Christmas party when he was nineteen. There is a problem. She is his best friend’s little sister. Ryker also has the problem of putting everyone else’s needs ahead of his own. What can he do once he crosses the line and break the Bro Code? This story shows the empathy of a person who has love for mankind and the adventuresome spirit of another who lets one know that he should be doing what makes him happy.

Very enjoyable read with lots of drama and heat. I loved Claire's character being the adventurous type in everything she does. Ryker is quite stuck in his ways and very loyal which makes him forget about himself and his needs and happiness and I wanted slap him sometimes to make him see the errors in his believes. He needs a woman like Claire to make him see that, although she gives Ryker more chances than I would have ever given him :). I liked reading about the other brothers in this series and will read their stories after this and complete the series.

I really enjoyed the Hawthorne Brothers series. They were all amazing and this was no exception. Though to be honest, Ryker was probably the leases favorite of all the brothers as he wasn’t quite as alpha-like as his brothers, and was a bit wispy-washy for me. However, he is very loyal And I can see his point of view and where he is coming from. There was great chemistry between Claire and Ryker and this story was plenty steamy hot. This book and series is a must-read! I rate this book 4.5 stars!

Love at will or honour the code?...
LOVED the hero who was the best man for the upcoming nuptials of his best friend. Not so fond of the heroine who was to be maid of honour, she irritated me with her unrealistic expectations. Nevertheless their chemistry was off the charts in spite of them breaking the bro code. The "rules" are just plain daft when it comes to consenting adults anyway but can the hero get his best friend to forgive him for breaking the code & allow his own sister to have a chance at a happy ever after with the best man. I received an arc & this is my honest & voluntary review.

Ryker has loved his best friend’s sister for seven years but never did anything about it due to the bro code. After seven years of wanting, they both give into their passion but Ryker is riddled with guilt because he broke the bro code. This book had so much promise and I really wanted to like the book but I couldn’t get over Ryker’s inability to commit to Claire or Claire’s lack of sticking to her guns. They would have sex and then Ryker would try to break things off with Claire because of his guilt. After the third time of him doing this, I wanted to smack Ryker and Claire both!

Okay, so here's the thing, remember those girls in school that got the really great guys, but treated them crappy...Well let me introduce you to Claire. She's Ryker's best friend's little sister. So the code is, "see little sister do not touch, do not pass go, do not collect $200. But. Ryker is having a tough time with it and so is Claire. Then one kiss and it's wham bam thank you and let's not tell your brother. So secret hook ups it is. But Ryker really cares for Claire and visa versa. But I think in this story.it really is, Claire really cares for Claire and then Ryker. Is it a great book, yes. Do I recommend it, yes. I Love everything by Ashlee Price.
