This first installment to the Light Bearers series introduces us to sisters Sarah and Amelia, who were orphaned at a young age and taken in by their wealthy uncle who has given them the best of everything. Amelia embraces their new life, but Sarah struggles to ever feel truly at home. Years after her parents' death, Sarah makes a startling discovery that plunges her into a darkness she never knew existed, one that will threaten to destroy her relationship with Amelia forever.
If Sarah's instincts are right, there may not be anyone she can trust. But on an unexpected family vacation, Sarah meets a stranger who reveals a power within her she didn't know she had, and one she'll have to master to survive.

Mindy, an avid reader and truth teller, infuses her fast-paced, clean, "I can make it on less sleep" YA fantasy fiction novels with her passion for storytelling. In a world marked by darkness and dissension, Mindy recognizes the desperate need for light, life, and hope, and she endeavors to bring these elements to life in everything she writes.
Beyond her literary pursuits, Mindy holds a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree, diligently maintaining her license in case of injuries involving her 3 boys whom she homeschools and her husband of 20 years that tends to be a bit injury prone, but she adores him anyway.
This book was a wonderfully packaged story of hope and purpose. Sarah, Amelia and Lucas begin a journey that teens and adults alike can relate to; learning to discern between good and evil, being confident in our purpose, and having hope outside of our own abilities. I found this book to be completely inspiring and full of much needed truth - anxiously awaiting The Deliverance!
This was a quick read for me. I knew absolutely nothing about this book going into it and was initially not expecting the direction it was going, but enjoyed the ride and would look forward to reading Book 2!
The Light Bearers Series is about a teenage girl named Sarah who learns a dark secret that turns her world upside-down. A mysterious yet alluring guy comes into her life that seems to know something she doesn't. Something that will help her get through the darkness that seems to surround her. I appreciate that the content, while intense, is also clean and consistent with my values. As a Christian mom and parenting blogger at growingkidsforthekingdom.com, I recommend this book for teenagers due to its great allegorical themes that would be beneficial for faith-related discussions. I believe this series is not only captivating and enthralling for any teens and adults, but it will uplift its readers with a message of light and hope in a world full of darkness.
If you love fantasy fiction, this book does not disappoint. The main character is so well developed, immersed in a world that is, well . . . out of this world. She's timid, but when the time comes for her to make her stand, she is all in. This book would be great for anyone preteen to adult (though there is some mention of drinking, sexual innuendo, and gruesome fights between good and evil that parents might want to preview before allowing anyone under 14 to read). Mindy Hite has done a great job developing her characters, connecting their storylines to the plot, and immersing the reader directly into the story. I couldn't put it down, and you won't be able to either!
*I've heard there are for sure two more books in this series.
This is a great read! I could barely put it down. The plot was not at all what I expected. Pleasantly surprised by the story line and characters, it is the perfect combination of self discovery, love, and suspense. It made me cry, it made me tense up, it made me read faster than I ever have before. As a young adult, I appreciate the outlook the other has on good vs. evil and found myself relating the book to my life and current world today. I would absolutely recommend!
What an intriguing and beautifully written story. I couldn’t put it down. The gripping characters and suspense had me flipping the pages. I absolutely loved the adventure the author takes us on as the main character, Sarah learns her world is shockingly not as she thought. I would recommend for adolescent readers and up. I can’t wait to read the next one!
I ordered Light Bearers for my teen. She was reading another book when it arrived. So I snagged it and read it before she did. I loved it! I wish I had this book when I was a teen. I would have enjoyed it. It made me reflect on A Wrinkle In Time. Great read. Great tension. Kept me turning pages and not wanting it to end.
What if you discovered the world you knew wasn’t as it seemed? Light Bearers: The Awakening by Mindy Hite is the first book in the Light Bearers series. It follows the journey of Sarah, a teenage girl who is forced into the battle between good and evil that she never knew existed. The book is a page-turner that is hard to put down. The main character is compelling and grabs your heart. The message is one worth pondering. And you'll eagerly look forward to the sequel. I highly recommend Light Bearers: The Awakening to anyone who wants a good read, who enjoys suspense, and who likes to be transported to a world where reality encounters the mysterious.
I read The Awakening in one sitting and was completely swept away. I couldn’t put it down—and I found myself openly weeping through several scenes. It’s one of those rare stories that lingers in your spirit long after you close the last page.
Mindy’s storytelling is both powerful and tender, weaving beauty, pain, and hope together in a way that feels deeply personal. The characters feel alive, like they’ve stepped into your own life to remind you of truth and purpose.
This book is more than a story; it’s an awakening of the heart. I’m so grateful it exists—and I can’t wait to start Book Two! ❤️
Light Bearers is a gripping and imaginative tale of teenager Sarah awakening to profound evil in her midst. As threats to her and her sister escalate, she’s desperate to find an ally. Fortunately, he's kind, courageous, and handsome.
The biblical themes shine throughout the story in a natural, unforced way, and the excellent pacing kept me turning the pages. While the author keeps the narrative free of profanity on the page and graphic violence, Light Bears seems best suited for older teens and adults.
I could not put this book down! The tension and mystery just kept building and building. The author did a good job of developing Sarah's character and her relationship with Lucas was so heartwarming. Can't wait for the sequel!
I have now read this twice, and can't wait for my daughters (11 and 13) to read it! It reminds me of the style of writing that I enjoyed at their age - not too difficult, but not patronizingly easy. There is great character development (Sarah is very relatable) but not so nuanced and detailed as to fail to hold your attention. Mindy does a great job of delving into the reality of evil without painting a gruesome picture that would haunt young (or old!) minds. There are challenges, some heartbreaking, but never without hope. You finish wanting more, but not feeling strung-along. Carries the undercurrent of the message, life, hope, and love of Christ without being overt. A great read for Christians and non-Christians alike. Definitely the kind of book you don't want to put down, and the kind of story you want more of.
Clean YA, fast paced, fantasy fiction, that kept me turning the pages and wanting to leap into Book 2! This is a must read series for fantasy lovers! See my full review at "https://cooperhite.com/book-reviews/"
