Each short story is rated on a scale of personal enjoyment. 1 - I did not like it 2 - I thought it was OK 3 - I liked it 4 - I really liked it 5 - I really liked it and found it offered something unique compared to other BT fiction
Scavenger's Blood - 2.5 (Maybe I'd have been more into it if I understood the larger implications...)
Flashe'd His Sabre Bare - 3.5 (BT rarely features detailed dogfight accounts, which made this stand out from the crowd)
Devil Take the Hindmost - 3 (Black Marauder lite)
Daybreak on Shining Mountain - 5 (Very unique and well-written! Wobbies make great punching bags!)
Giving Up - 2.8 (A decent mech fight and some relatable stakes. Wobbies make great punching bags!)
The Road Ahead - 3.8 (It was interesting to read a pro-life Battletech story. *not pro-life in the American political sense.)
Overall - 3.4 (It was a pretty good collection and I'm happy I read it. Daybreak was the clear standout and I highly recommend it!)
An anthology of Battletech stories ranging from the Succession War through to the Dark Ages and everything in between.
Much like issue #1, not every story is a hit (for me), and I tend to enjoy the stories set around the Succession War and the Clan Invasion more than the Jihad and Dark Ages, but I still enjoy the ride. It's nice to see Battletech showing up in pop culture a little bit more then it used to.
I enjoyed all the stories within this volume. A lot of good classic Battletech action and politics. The only issue I have reading these volumes is the back and forth of different time periods. It takes a minute to readjust from pre-Fed Com to Dark Age. It has been a while since I read “Far Country” but I think “Daybreak on Shining Mountain” contained here did the rough concept better.
Had a good time reading stories. They transport me out of the present and into the war-torn future. I hope some of the stories could be developed further!
Good stories including part 2 of the Kell Hounds story and a story set in Turtle Bay during the Clan Invasion (before the planet was under an orbital bombardment).
