Juniper Unraveling #4

God of Monsters

Rate this book
I've heard stories about the Alphas. Violent soldiers, bred to kill both humans and mutations, whose sole purpose was to balance our survival against the infected.

Until they turned on their masters.

Held as subjects of the Calico research facility, they were forced to endure the gruesome experiments that transformed them into callous savages with hearts as impenetrable as their defenses. More terrifying than the monsters that decimated our world with disease and famine.

In the aftermath of Calico's collapse, many of the Alphas fled, only to be hunted by our own Legion army. And in their absence, the balance has shifted.

I thought they no longer existed.
Until I met him, the god of monsters.
Now I don't believe in the stories anymore.

To fall in love with the unyielding heart of an Alpha is said to be impossible.

But to fall in love with a god would be a tragedy.

I haven't read many dystopian/apocalypse romances,I think it just friggin creeps me out how the world can go to hell in a hand basket with everything from zombie like creatures like the ragers who kill or f**k anything in sight to the truly evil bastards like Remus and his sister/ lover agatha who are truly sick pshyco's who make your skin crawl with their sick fucking games!! After the Dredge the world became a very bad place and people are nothing but a comity to be used, abused and especially the women. The deadlands are not safe either, because if the maruders don't get you the legion will and if your real unlucky the ragers and people like remus will get you.And then theirs the convent where people go to stay safe, the only thing is people go in ,but many never leave, they just disappear! I truly loved Titus and thalia from their first meeting I could see the spark, but will Thalia see the God of monsters as a monster or a man that just about has given up on life or will Thalia bring this alpha back to life! I don't want to give much away other then to say this book took me though all kinds of emotions from love to hate to feeling like someone cut a hole in my heart! What happened to Thalia at the hands of that sick piece of shit remus made me sick to my stomach.I just wished his death was by thalia's hand after what he did to her not titus! it should have been by her own hand. The writing was superb and the storytelling fabulous as well and so well done that I cried and cried and if I wasn't crying I was thinking of ways to make remus suffer! No quick death for this piece of Shit!! And his sick bitch sister agatha would have been next. Even though Titus was a alpha feared because of strength and was used as a killing machine he still had his humanity, but was treated like a slave but a monster I don't think so!They were the monsters! No matter what they did he was a hero for Thalia and even after she had been violated by remus for days he still loved her and nothing was gonna change that. This was a hard book to read I'm not gonna lie. I picked it up and put it down a few times not for any other reason than the rape scenes and the sick mind games and torture remus inflicted on her body mind and soul it was gut wrenching to read, And it seemed so vivid to me like I was in the same room. Over all its a excellent read, but I will need to take some time before I read the other books from this series. I got a feeling they will be just as intense as this one. But I will! I'm very interested in these back characters and want to know their stories as well. Until next time Luv's💋💕

...In the land of monsters, survival comes before everything else."

What was the last book you read that kept you up all night, turned you inside out, and stuck with you for months to come? I can say this about the ENTIRE Juniper Unraveling series. But God Of Monsters absolutely owned me. A dark, captivating and gut wrenching romance in the midst of hell on earth, this book ripped me to shreds and I'll never be the same again.

This is a dark apocalyptic romance and if you haven’t read this genre yet, Keri will suck you into this world and keep you on the edge of your seat. Even if apocalyptic isn't your cuppa, trust me, this series will make a believer out of you.

As for this book? The epic conclusion to one of the most epic series was a non stop, action packed ride. I can't imagine the series closing with a better book. Thalia and Titus's story was on a whole other level. It was simply otherworldly. Ha! See what I did there? But I digress.

If you've read Kings of Carrion, then you'll remember Titus. But nothing, and I mean nothing will prepare you for the full force that is Titus as the main character. This man was GAH. He was TORTURED with a capital T. Titus has survived the very depths of human depravity and has seen horrors that most can't even imagine. He's lost more than any person could imagine in their lifetimes. He's a warrior through and through, but this story takes you into the dark depths of his world, and an easy read it is not.

Thalia is a woman that hasn't truly experienced Calico. She's only heard stories and warning tales of the Alphas that were created within those walls. She was born with a purpose but her heart doesn't agree. She yearns for something else, something beyond the life of her small and sheltered village. Something beyond her duty. But nothing could prepare her for what she is about to go through.

Now I will tell you, this book was dark. I mean it was DARK. If there's one thing that Keri Lake knows how to do, is make her readers squirm. I'm talking, dread in the pit of your stomach, anxiety ridden hot mess of a reader who is just waiting for that other shoe to drop. Keri is not afraid to bring readers into the darkest pits and spare no detail. And she doesn't. You experience it all; the despair, the violence, the devastation. The story takes you to hell and back and somehow manages to stitch you back together in the end. I sobbed my way through the last 20% of this book and I can't stop thinking about it months after.

This is a story about survival and love amongst ruins. It's a story of perseverance and strength. It's emotional, captivating, and utterly mesmerizing. Easily my favorite series from this author to date. If you read any book this year, make it this one. Trust me. And if you haven't read this series yet, do yourself a favor and experience it. Because it's unlike anything you've ever read.

God of Monsters is the fourth book in the Juniper Unraveling Series. A dark dystopian romance series with complex characters and a thrilling ensemble, Ms. Lake has created a world like no other. This series must be read in order as you do not want to miss one single moment. In this world women are rare, men are ruthless, mutations are rampant and the world has been turned upside down. Now that the time of Calico has passed, a woman named Thalia finds herself in danger. Stubborn and full of life, she refuses to reform to the norms being forced upon her. When she finds herself in the hands of some very evil people, it will take the strength and endurance of a God to protect her. But when Titus and Thalia come together, is love enough to see them through the darkness of their world?

"I don't deserve you..."
Told in multiple POV, God of Monsters is an absolute crowd pleaser with action, suspense, passion, and romance. The people of this world have endured so much suffering and pain and revenge is so sweet for these Alphas and their women. I have been a huge fan of this series from the beginning and with a complex story arc, intensity, and beautiful romance, this is one series you do not want to miss.
"I've been chasing you longer than you realize."
Overall, God of Monsters will appeal to dystopian romance fans who enjoy an intense world with darkness and light. Keri Lake is a gifted storyteller who has crafted a world in which I will never forget.

If you haven't started this series yet... WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR???

This was the story of Titus and Thalia. I said that the first three books of this series were scary. Well, this book... it was horrific! I don't even know where the author came up with all the things that these characters had to go through, but the horror show that was Titus and Thalia's life... it was graphic, obscene, and terrifying. My heart broke for these people and I couldn't believe what the dregs of society were willing to do to entertain themselves.

The author did an incredible job of showing glimpses of beauty during all of the pain. And there was a lot of pain! But what grew between Titus and Thalia was inspiring. To live through the tortures they endured, to all but lose hope of anything, to get to where they were in the end... strong, battle-scarred, and appreciative of all they had...they were beautiful.

I don't know what tickled the author's mind to create this series, but whatever it was, I'm grateful to it. It allowed her to create a world of ugly wonder that delved into the depths of what makes us human, what divides us in the worst of times, and what truly makes a hero. The Juniper Unraveling series is one I will always be happy to recommend!

'I feel like I’m merely existing here, though, biding the time for something I can’t see on the horizon.'

Those who have already come so far into the series you're already aware of the chaos and psychotic characters in the book. Each and every person suffers, scars are vicible and not vicible, people who have loved ones are not safe from themselves nor enemies.

"What do you call him?”
“Titus. The God of Monsters.”

Titus is the quiet Alpha who likes to keep to himself. His loyalty and willingness to sacrifice himself for his brother even if he has to return to a place like Calico - a place where suffering is beyond bearable. Getting caught with his brother Atticus by two mad siblings and played as their puppet he fell in a stance of despair until a woman held in a glass room about to be sacrificed to a mutant monster.

'...seems what’s left of the world is fast becoming a playground for zealots and psychopaths.'

Thalia lived a privileged life in Szolen until she was offered to the church chosen as Daughter. Not to be held in sackles she rebels and is then exiled. She learns life outside, The Deadlands has secrets, has much cruelty and every day is about survival. She has been battered, sold and held among people disguised as real monsters. What was a safe community turned volatile. Her life depended on a certain Alpha who was not as she was taught.

Titus and Thalia's journey towards the end was not easy. I felt Titus less ruthless in showing his affections than the other Alpha heroes but when it comes to killing he is savegely brutal. Thalia was a nurturer where Titus was a destroyer. There is no humanity in this world and the morality is questionable.

I wanted a bit more of Atticus story. The epilogue was nice but I wanted to see all the characters together. Cadmus is always missed, like Titus I too thought, "What if he’s still down there? Alive.", even if there is a tiny self of him in the world Cadmus is never forgotten. This series means a lot to me. Such action-packed story described in words which has the power to catch a readers attention needs to be praised. Keri Lake is one of my favourite author, she writes like she means it. I cried in the last book and I'm going to miss this series. Keri Lake makes us fall in love with the characters and then kills them without guilt. This is a dark apocalyptic dystopian series with depravity of mad scientists and men who preach of better worls. I highly recommend it.

Genre: Dark Dystopian Romance
Type: Book 4 of 4 from Juniper Unraveling series
POV: First Person - Female
Rating:
(3.75 Stars)

Being born and bred in a safe community, Thalia was sheltered from the harsh reality of the world she lived in. When her freedom was threatened, she fought back, not realizing the place she wanted to escape to was nowhere near as she imagined especially with Titus in the equation.

I liked both characters, but I felt it was slightly unbalanced. The story leaned more towards Thalia especially with no POV for Titus. I was also hoping for more of Atticus in the story.

My mother used to tell me that God only gave me what I could handle. Perhaps He’s forgotten about me. Abandoned me in this place, because with each rise and fall of the sun, I find my will to fight them waning.

This time around, the characters’ predicaments involved more around the question of morality from other people than the mutants or monster. The pace and tension level was a lot milder than the last book.

God of Monsters is a story of humanity and survival. It would appeal to readers who enjoy Romance in a dark, dystopian world.

Raised in Szolen, Thalia led a privileged life until she became a chosen Daughter. Realizing the hypocrisy, she fights against the rules and is exiled. However, Thalia quickly learns the harsh reality of the Deadlands and those who have long struggled. As an alpha, Titus is strong but he’s been enslaved. Upon crossing paths with Thalia, he is willing to make sacrifices to regain what he’s lost.

“Suffering seems to be the currency of this world. The unbalanced dichotomy of those who inflict, and those who endure. It’s a wonder anyone is of sound mind.”

Being the last book in this series, there was much to cover regarding the remaining alphas and the overall dystopian landscape. Since Titus was originally introduced, I was intrigued by his personality and willingness to sacrifice for his brothers. In the present, such traits remain with the added sexual tension between him and Thalia.

“Out here, where the world is harsh and we’re forced to survive alone together, where everyone is scratching for one small fraction of what’s left, I’m selfish enough to claim all of him.”

What I liked about this storyline was the emphasis on Titus and Thalia together. Compared to the previous books, the heart-stopping action was slightly more subdued, but the insidious nature in certain scenes led to deeper and darker character development.

For me, I would have liked to have read Titus’ POV throughout rather than only Thalia’s. I also wanted a little more about Atticus. Overall, the despair, hardships and power struggles were ever present in the dystopian theme. The world Keri Lake created in this series is inventive and I’m glad she took a chance on it.

God of Monsters is dystopian romance about surviving extreme conditions and trying to stay on the right side of morality.

I want to start my review by saying that the Juniper Unraveling series has become one of my all time favorites. Dark Dystopian Romance is a very niche genre and I wish more Dark Romance lovers would give this series a chance. Because I really think they would fall in love with the broken heroes and brave heroines in the gritty and ruthless world Keri Lake has created. This series was a very emotional, heart-wrenching, dark, and hopeful journey. It took me one of the most emotional roller-coaster ever, and I didn't want to get off. So much happened in this book and I applaud the author's story-telling abilities because she found the perfect pacing, and it never felt rushed. There was no dull moment and I was fully connected to the characters. I loved seeing them grow closer to each other, and see their love develop further down the story. They would do anything to save one another, and they really showed that in this book.

"I would tear apart anything that ever tried to hurt you. And I would stab my own heart out, if it was me."

This book was a very dark and emotional experience, and I was hooked from start til finish. The characters are amazing but broken in their own ways. They both have their own demons to slay but together they are stronger. Titus is one of the few Alphas still alive, and if you have read the previous books then you have been introduced to him. I was intrigued by him so I was excited when I saw that Keri was writing his story. Thalia is the heroine of this book and she was so incredibly brave, and I just can't imagine how she dealt with all the horror she had to go through in this book. Both characters go through unimaginable evil and depraved things. This series is not for the faint-hearted. It was very dark, brutal and explicit. I loved everything about this book/series, and I am sad to see it end. I really hope the author will decide to write new stories taking place in this world in the future. I highly recommend all my Dark Romance lovers to give this series a chance. You won't regret it!

RATING: 5 'Champion & Viper' HEARTS! <3

“The love I feel for you is endless. Infinite. Unbreakable.”

God of Monsters brings the acclaimed Juniper Unraveling series to its breathtaking conclusion, albeit with lingering bittersweet emotions as we say goodbye to a cast of beloved characters.

He’s the first deep breath after drowning. The promise of new life.

Ms. Lake stands with the best of the dystopian writers for many reasons, not the least of which because her work displays a stunning portrayal of the dichotomy between the light and dark desires of humanity. God of Monsters—this entire series really—blends sci-fi and dystopian concepts with gritty and realistically-portrayed character relationships that make us feel the sharpest of pains, yet also the warmest of joys, the most passionate love, and a cavalcade of hope that soften the edges of a dark, nightmare world.

“There isn’t a god in this world that can save you now, Thalia. You belong to the most savage one of all.”

Overall, God of Monsters demonstrates Ms. Lake’s incredible level of ecstatic storytelling as we experience Thalia and Titus’ journey right alongside them, from Craven attacks and depraved captors to simple banter and the love of a lifetime—there is not a single moment in this read that is less than. Although it is farewell, I am hoping it is only for now, and we will soon be treated to another Keri Lake dystopian masterpiece.

Oh my, where do I start with this one it was just so absorbing and I practically inhaled the whole thing I’m so sad this is the last one in the series and it’s up there with my favourite series ever everyone was definitely a five star read.

So that being said you’ll get the most from this if you start at the beginning of the journey with book one, this is a completely separate couple so I suppose you could read it as a stand-alone but you need it really to understand the world this is set in and it will make more sense if read in order.
There are definitely things that will fly over your head subtle nuances and prior events that add substance and without this background and reference you might flounder somewhat.
Reading from the beginning will add a lot of clarity to the world and the inhabitants of it.

So this is dystopian post-apocalyptic and the worlds gone to ruin after the dredge and if the rager’s or Marauders don’t get you then the rest of the occupants of this new dark world sure will.
Here we get to see the black hearts of humankind at there absolute worst, stripped back to there base instincts and surviving no matter the cost, bestowing cruelty and a complete lack of morality and just doing whatever they need to thrive and it’s bloody dark and brutal stuff.
I’m not going to go into great detail as I’ve already done that in previous reviews of this series but basically it’s completely fucked up if you get my drift.

All the books in this series are somewhat dark but this one I think was the darkest so far what Thalia is subjected to so heartbreaking and just showcases her inner strength and resilience to overcome her circumstances endure them and then survive and overcome it all with Titus love and support.

Not just Thalia though, Titus certainly gets put through the wringer as well and when these two first originally meet both of them captives of a sadistic and cruel master it’s obvious that he’s given up and just accepted his circumstances, basically turned off his humanity switch which isn’t surprising really.
Thalia is the key that reawakens his spirit and his will to escape her arrival relighting his spark of rebellion and will to break free from his chains.
She stands for everything he despises but he’s also drawn to her and wants to protect her at the same time.

So this one mostly takes place in the dead-lands and features Titus a genetically altered human a survivor from the original calico experiments that we met previously.
Thalia is a brand new character and up until now has lived a life of relative comfort behind the gates of Szolen.
Finding herself a Chosen a coveted role in her community she rebels and finds herself exiled to the sisters of mercy convent for a period of five years and when a sand-storm takes out her transport on the way there Thalia finds herself stranded and at the mercy of the deadlands many dangers and there’s a whole lot of them.

This is where her journey begins and it’s not an easy one.
Thalia really had little idea of the realities beyond her cosseted upbringing and she definitely has to change to survive during the course of all this.
She evolves from a wide-eyed naive idealist into something more equipped to deal with the harshness of her new existence.

It’s not an instant connection with Titus for Thalia she’s drawn to him of course but it isn’t until she gains some needed life-experience and has her eyes fully opened to this new reality that she begins to finally understand the whys of Titus and his actual behaviour.
it’s this insight that is the catalyst that finally removes her blinkers and though Titus initially fights there connection his way of protecting Thalia when their bond does finally blossom it was beautiful and so heartwarming.
Especially in the face of all the surrounding harshness their light shone so brightly and made such a contrast when held up against all that stark brutality.

This had a lot going on and at times my heart was in my throat, so many emotions this brought forth in me this is one series that puts you through an emotional ringer.
And man all of the misplaced guilt Titus feels in regard to his dead friend Cadmus was just so poignant and heart-breaking I felt so much for him which is why I really appreciated that sweet epilogue.

This is mostly told from Thalia’s POV we do get a couple of inputs from Titus one at the start and again at the end but Thalia is the one who’s head we inhabit mostly throughout and she’s definitely a completely different individual than she was at the start of this.
Harder more resilient but still essentially a good person just an evolved one that is prepared to make the hard choices if anyone threatens her chosen family.
Titus well I’m just so pleased he got his eventual happiness, he so deserves all the love in the world I just adored him so much.

So yeh amazing series that provides all the feels but be aware this does have some deep triggers and it does get dark before it gets better, but it’s also so worth the journey to actually arrive where you do and other than that warning your good to go with this.
I do Highly recommend this if you like dystopian post-apocalyptic fiction it is a fantastic series.

God of Monsters is the final book in the Juniper Unraveling series and I loved it from beginning to end. I find it hard to review the books in this series because so much happens that to go through it all my review would take forever to read so it's best to go with the basics. After the events of book 3 Titus and Atticus decide to venture out on their own, unfortunately they are both captured and separated. Thalia is a young woman who defies her community laws and is sent off to a Convent. Titus and Thalia's story is filled with betrayal, devastation and heartache. You will want to step away at times but putting it down will not last long. As I've said before this world Keri has created is brutal, each book in this series makes you wonder if death isn't the best option. Although you know your going to get a beautiful HEA getting there will rip your heart out.

4★★★★Stars

Genre:  Dark Dystopian Romance
Type:  Book 4 of 4 from Juniper Unraveling series
POV:  First Person - Female

“When there’s rage burning inside of me, you are still. The calm to my chaos.”

Twenty year old Thalia has been living in a prote cted and sheltered environment. She didn’t approved of some of the rules in her village and when she was forced to leave she did not anticipate having to fight for her life in the world where survival is a must.

“Know the lay of the land and its weak spots, he always said, as if he somehow knew I’d be at the mercy of this world.”

We met Titus in the previews books in this Juniper unraveling series. He was more quiet and I am glad we got to see more about him on this book. The story opens up with his point of view and we got to see a bit of his internal thoughts of what he was going through.

“Out here, where the world is harsh and we’re forced to survive alone together, where everyone is scratching for one small fraction of what’s left, I’m selfish enough to claim all of him.”

There’s so many great scenes on this book that I enjoyed a lot and some notso much. I feel the connection between Thalia and Titus was on point. I loved how they met and how they worked together to survive. However; I wished Titus had his own POV specially on a scene where I wanted details, it needed his thoughts to make it feel more for me. Atticus was such a great character even though we didn’t get to see much of him on this book he sure made his appearance noticeably and I loved every single second of it.

Overall; God of Monsters is a great tale of survival and love. This series will be appealing to readers who e njoy a good dystopian story.

Dystopia is not a genre I usually read, but when Keri Lake released Juniper Unraveling a couple years ago, I couldn't not read it. And ever since, I've been craving more of this series.

The world she created, ruthless, violent, desolated, eerie, utterly gripped me.

With God Of Monsters, fourth and last book of the series, we say goodbye to that maddening universe and its touching characters.

Titus and Thalia's love story at turn broke my heart, gave me hope, had me crying my eyes out and smiling so big. What a journey! The frenetic rhythm of their quest kept me on the edge of my seat from cover to cover. Mrs Lake made me feel the rawest emotions. I. felt. them. all. What's not to love about the protective god-like Alpha, lethal and so caring for the strong, sassy and determined Thalia!

"I’ve learned this world will take what isn’t claimed. So I’m calling you mine.”

This epic conclusion, tale of love but also friendship and family, had me thinking so hard (just like the other episodes did). Science, condition of the women, balance (or lack thereof) of the powers in a society, were brilliantly (and heartbreakingly) approached. At several times I wondered about the cruelty humanity is capable of in the name of questionable beliefs. And that feeling was just magnificent.

“A lesser man would take advantage of you right now.”“What’s stopping you?”“Nothing but a fine thread.”

I highly recommend this book (starting at book #1 would be a must, though), to readers who want to feel the strongest emotions. Be prepared to have your boundaries pushed, your hand sweating, your heart shattered. You'll love every minute of it, I promise! Happy reading!

How can someone who brings so much calm and contentment in my life make me so violent at the same time?”

I VOLUNTARILY REVIEWED AN ARC COPY OF THIS BOOK. THANK YOU!!!

This series has been amazing. Juniper Unravelling was a revelation. And my introduction to this author.

This is the fourth and final book in the series. And it’s another fabulous read.

Yes it’s dark at times. With some truly horrific characters. There’s suffering, pain, torture, hopelessness and sorrow. But there’s also love, romance, hope and compassion.

I re-read the previous books before starting this one and it truly is a remarkable series.

I loved the humour between Thalia and Titus. This was the icing on the cake.

Now I’m a fussy reader. I don’t like it but I can’t help it.
And a couple of things bothered me.

Titus is an Alpha who’s spent much of his life locked up and tortured.
Thalia has lived a relatively sheltered life. Although she had access to books and people. A few things she said seemed a little weird. For example hemorrhoid cream and pole dancing to name just two.
I know this is picky and a very small point. But it stood out and just didn’t seem right.

Ahhh Keri Lake's stories are always dark and delicious with just the right anount of an emotional touch to get me right in the feels. I have loved the Juniper Unraveling series from the beginning and was SO excited to read Titus' book. I absolutely loved him in the prior books and was so obsessed with his story!

After reading it I can honestly say that Keri Lake ended this phenomenal series on a deep and powerful high note. I absolutely love apocalyptic romance but to have it be dark romance was the cherry on top. Thalia and Titus were just amazing. Even in times of despair where all hope was lost, through Lake's incredible writing, we could feel inklings of hope from the cracks of light within the darkness. What an outstanding love story. I loved every word and am sad to see this series end. 5 stars! ~Ratula

IM CRYING.

I can't believe this series is over. I could read about these people for the rest of my life. I laughed, I cried, I blushed, I screamed and I almost died of anxiety more than once.

These books are true dystopian, dark romance, and absolutely beautiful.

1000000 🌟, forevermore 🖤

God of Monsters had me anxious through most of it. It’s dark and depraved, the absolute worst setting for love to bloom and flourish in yet that’s exactly what happens. I enjoyed Titus and Thalia’s story. I also enjoyed watching them retain their humanity and ability to love in a world that was brutal and inhumane. I enjoyed this book and definitely recommend it and the rest of the series.

"A god can’t be held in chains.”

I'm a mess.Tears and hiccups.
This book is a dark dystopian, not for the dainty.

Keri Lake held no punches, delivering a heart-breaking, soul-mending dark romance that will leave your chest on fire, your heart thumping in your chest, and tears streaming down your face!!

Whew! I needed good night's sleep before I could properly review this book. I've loved this series from book one. The ending was perfectly written, my tears prove it. Gah! I'm sad to let these characters go, but happy for the way the story concluded. Bittersweet. This series will hold a special place in my dark heart, savagely written to carve it's spot. I can't recommend it enough.

This is the first book I read from this series and it's safe to say that I am obsessed!! Even though I wasn't familiar with the world, I had no problem following the story.
Fair warning that this book isn't for the faint of heart. There is violence, abuse but so much emotion.
We have a dystopian world were men have become monsters and human life doesn’t have any value.
Survival is the only thing that matters.
Thalia is trying to survive and her survival will come to depend on a dangerous Alpha. Titus is called God Of Monsters because of his brutal strength. But who is really the monster in this tale?
I fell in love with the characters, the plot and the danger of the world. There wasn't a dull moment in this book.
Excellently written, Keri Lake brings us a story that is as relevant as any dark fairytale.
I highly recommend this book.

4 Stars!

I don't remember another book or series that battered my heart so ruthlessly nor healed it so completely.

I closed this book with a smile on my face and a healing heart in my chest. I am 100% completely satisfied, not only with the journey but with where that journey took me and where it left me. There is no other series out there that has left me feeling so completely satisfied. Thanks, in no small part, to that second epilogue. GAH! My heart! Cadmus!

Keri pulled no punches, she was ruthlessly brutal and demanded so much from her characters and in turn, from her readers. She made them (me) bleed, claw and fight their way to happiness. Nothing and I mean nothing, was served up on a platter but there was always a sense of hope and a bit of light to cling to in the dark.

Keri created a futuristic, dystopian world and filled it with real characters, real emotions, and included frightening parallels to the world in which we currently live. It takes a true talent immerse, me as a reader, so completely in a world. Many authors can tell a great story but damn few can make me feel so completely apart of it. Bravo Keri!

Any who bypass this because of the sub-genre, are doing themselves a huge disservice.

❝A god can’t be held in chains.❞

A relentless, take no prisoners ending to the Juniper Unraveling series, ‘God of Monsters’ is a riveting and brutal story of how love can provide hope even in the darkest moments.

❝Bravery is simply learning to control the fear inside of you.❞

Deemed one of the prestigious Daughters, Thalia is expected to prove her virtue by having her virginity taken by The Shepherd. Then, after five years of helping build the community, her service would be complete. But, Thalia longed to continue her studies in the medical field, not become a vessel for the good of the community. So, when her mother refused to help her, Thalia took the matters into her own hands. But when her actions got her banished from the community, she was sent to live with Mother Chilson at the Sisters of Mercy.

While traveling to the Sisters of Mercy, her convoy was raided, and she was taken and sold. Her outcome depended on the fighter who, if any, could win against the mutation.

❝I will kill anything that tries to harm you with my bare hands. I will burn down what’s left of this world to protect you.❞

Titus had been living off the land and enjoying his own solitude when one day, he was brought down by a poison so strong, his Alpha gene was unable to rejuvenate against it. He was kidnapped by a psychotic and brutal man. He was used as a weapon when needed, and shackled and starved when not.  Having lost the will to live, he fought and followed orders without argument. It wasn’t until he saw Thalia up in the glass room that he found a reason to fight.

❝Believe me, I didn’t want to kill him.❞
❝I believe you. It’s not who you are. How many times do we have to revisit this?❞
❝Until I no longer feel like a monster.❞

I’ve been blogging and reviewing since 2013. I have read many books. I have many favorite and many not so favorite books. But, I’ve had only one favorite series: The Bronze Horseman Trilogy.
ONE.
Until now.
The Juniper Unraveling series is smart, well-written, and filled with spine-tingling scenes, and fascinating characters.

These books parallel real life. One of the things I love most about this series is how, within the scenes where humanity is at its worst, Keri Lake gives us examples of how it is and can still be, good. Lake gives us love. She gives us hope.

Lake's stories are character driven. Her alpha, anti-heroes and feisty, strong heroines are given stories that support them. She’s undeniably talented. Keri Lake has mastered the art of storytelling.

I was provided a review copy by Keri Lake; this did not influence my opinion of the book.

4.5 Stars

No words once again. Not that I am surprised at this point. Any time I read a book by Keri, I know that I am going to be speechless. My words will never do her books the justice they deserve.

God Of Monsters is the fourth book in her Juniper Unraveling series. This series is a dark dystopian and post-apocalyptic world that is like nothing I have read before. Keri does a magnificent job of bringing this world to life in so many ways. To fully grasp everything that has happened in this world, I highly, highly encourage you to read these books in order.

God of Monsters is Titus and Thalia's book. We were introduced to Titus in Kings of Carrion. Thalia is a new character to the series. She's born and raised in a safe community that only know the tales of what happens outside the walls. However, the safe community has it's own crazy ideas of how things should be.

The characters are unique and you get to see Thalia grow and become stronger in her own right. My biggest issue was not getting enough from Titus POV and all that he personally went through instead of brief glimpses in his few POVs. I really wanted more from him.

I really enjoyed this story line. Keri delivers this world like no other. In previous books, the stories usually surrounded the science and the purpose behind Calico. In this book, it was more about survival and moving beyond these genetically engineered monsters. There was a lot more humanity in this book than previous ones. Don't get me wrong – there is still a lot of dark elements and depravity. But this was a different aspect and level than the previous books and I appreciated that.

Overall, God of Monsters is another great book in this series. Readers who enjoy darker reads, especially those who are fans of dystopian worlds, will love this book and series.

This 4th book in Keri Lake's Juniper Unraveling series is the epic conclusion of an emotional, perfectly crafted, masterpiece.

Thought provoking and a little scary because the story isn't that difficult to believe it's an impossibility. I have not missed a single book in this series and I can tell you right now this one will long be a personal recommendation to anyone who will let me lament over it's virtues. The entire series is full of emotional ups and downs, light and dark and love and loss. I guarantee you will be broken and you will be healed.

Thalia and Titus, unlike the others in this series, find themselves facing their challenges alone, until they're not. They find each other and at the center of all the darkness is them clinging to their hope for something better.

Titus, part of an experiment to produce an indestructible force, has long since given up on the hope of anything remotely resembling love and happiness, but even for a hardened monster he has fears and I marveled at the honesty of his confessions.

“I fear the day I can no longer gaze into these eyes.” With a quick downward glance, he lifts my hand to his lips and kisses my knuckles. “The day these hands no longer touch my skin.” Edging forward, he plants a soft and gentle kiss to my lips, avoiding my cut. “The day I can no longer taste your lips on mine, or breathe in the flowery scent of you. These are the things I fear.” ~ Titus

This series, these books will not allow you to walk away untouched and I know it's not a go to genre for most romance readers, but I cannot truly express just how much they've affected me.

"A god can't be held in chains." A man's voice shouldn't reach down inside the chest and stir it like a hand caught in side a jar of butterflies, but it did. The deep baritone timbre only stokes my fascination, the shock of hearing him speak rousing my curiosity, and the profoundly masculine sound is pleasing in a way I wouldn't dare admit. ....Thalia meeting Titus

The fourth and culminating resolution to the Juniper Unraveling Series is EVERYTHING!
This review took me two days to write, rewrite, and write once more. I hate it and I love it all at once. Keri Lake has given us this post-apocalyptic world where humanity has reached its demise at the hands of human scientists. The aftermath has left a new breed of survivors where beasts walk among men, women are scarce, and there are no rules.
Thalia is the perfect blend of virtue and strength wrapped in a cloak of perseverance and bravery. She is inquisitive, bright, and observant. Her deliberate actions took my breath away many times. I was falling apart, sobbing on my kindle. It was as if Thalia reached out from the page, grabbed my hand and pushed on to find a way to save the god of monsters.
Titus needs no introduction; he is the god of monsters. The Alpha who knows the horrors of Calico first hand and who kills without concern or fear. Killing is a means to an end. Titus is forever changed by the kindness of Thalia and together they face the real demons of mankind.
A full 5 stars is not enough to rate this book, nor the Juniper Unraveling series. It is one of the greatest series of all times. Keri Lake is an amazingly talented, gifted writer.

This book...
This series!!!
WOW! I am in love! I just didnt think I could possibly LOVE someone as much as I did Titus! He was so broody, mysterious, protective, ALPHA FOR SURE.. He was simply everything I could want in a man. I am so happy he got his happy finally. And with Thalia. She sure did have it horrible at every turn. I felt like I was reading the Walking Dead sometimes. It was just so good. So many twists and turns. So dark. I couldnt get enough. Titus was such a good man for someone that everyone thought to be so bad. He held himself back for so long. And Thalia was so strong for all she went through. And in the end, it all turned out perfectly. Great ending. A homecoming. I loved the epilogues.
Also I would be happy to see Atticus change his playboy ways and get a spin off! Maybe some other characters too. I am not ready for this series to end!
5 stars and more. This author has written nothing but 5 star stories.

This book.....this series is just incredible.

Love, loss, dark, brutal raw emotion that breaks you and puts you back together, but not quite in the same way you were before. I'm sad to see the end of this amazing series, but I know it will remain as one of the best I've ever read and probably will ever read.  God of Monsters was a very fitting conclusion with another stunning cover.

I was so excited to read this book, having only discovered the series a few months ago. I'll admit I didn't have the biggest affinity to Titus as another had stolen and broken my heart in the previous books. However, he grabbed my attention and affection from the very start. He's tortured, broken but a true survivor, a man with a heart and soul longing for the kind of connection his brother Valdys found, but as an alpha and all that entails for human women, it's likely he'll never have it. He's a hard, ruthless killer, had such control over his emotions, but displayed a heartwarming tenderness and vulnerability and his protectiveness was off the charts. I fell in love with this man, hard.

Titus, this man, this alpha, this God of Monsters, genetically altered and trained to be a cold hearted killer without remorse, with a history full of violence and pain, is jolted back to life the moment he first sees Thalia. Her kindness in the face of her own fear quietly changes him.

Told mostly from Thalia's pov, some of Titus's actions towards her seem cruel and cold, but they are both slaves to a vile, evil psychopath. There is much more to Titus and the reasons for his actions though and Thalia soon starts to understand the lies she's been told all her sheltered life. She has the kindest of hearts and the strongest resolve, but trust is difficult to earn, can they ever escape intact or will they have to go through hell to be finally free? You know what the answer is and it's going to hurt. It will beak your heart like it did mine as Thalia learns how much harsher life is outside of Szolen.

Keri Lake has created a brutal, savage, violent world, where everyday is a fight for survival, made scarier because it feels like a very believeable potential future. However, if you look closely enough amongst the deepest, darkest corners of depravity a chink of light can be found, where there is hope and the strongest most beautiful soul binding love.

"No matter how turbulent and restless, when there’s rage burning inside of me, you are still. The calm to my chaos.” ~ Titus

This story is dark and not for the faint hearthearted or those with triggers. It is set in the most vivid of post apocalyptic worlds where it's hard to know who or what are the biggest monsters. It has strong characters full of depth who grow, learn and develop into who they were meant to be, flaws, scars, fears and all. Parts of this book shattered my heart, others made my heart sing. It was captivating, thought provoking, emotional, sensual, full of darkness and light and is a series I will never forget. Pure brilliance!!
