Before I say anything, I have to say THIS:

Fuck you, Anna Zaires.

Fuck you and your evil cliffhanger, you she-devil scribe.
I shall slay thee.

description

That last page?

How dare thee.

description

Anyway, all joking aside...

If you follow my reviews, you know I have a perpetual lady boner for anything Anna Zaires writes.

As I've said before, she could shit on parchment and I'd want to read it.

She could do an oh so trendy "retelling" of the ingredient list of a fucking KFC chicken pot pie and it would have me like-

description

For real though - tangent - have you ever seen the ingredient list for a KFC chicken pot pie?

I don't eat at KFC (and for my non-American reader friends who don't know, KFC is a fast food fried chicken joint originally called Kentucky Fried Chicken. It's...fried fast food chicken.)

Not knocking it, I ate a lot of it growing up; but, I haven't eaten there in years and I never ate one of their chicken pot pies, and thank God. I think my body would still be trying to digest some of these sins of a 12 year old fat kid ingredients. I mean, look at this ingredient list:

Holy "to protect flavor" heart attack., yo

For those who are wondering how we went from an Anna Zaires' book to discussing KFC ingredient lists, well, I'm as surprised as you, my friends.

But anyfried, as I was saying...

I will read anything Ms. Zaires writes because she's just exceptional.
Her writing is exceptional.
Her characters are complex (and exceptional).
Her plots are exceptional.
But most of all?

Her CRAZY AF RESTRAINING ORDER WORTHY ALPHA MALES are so beyond Stockholm Syndrome Sexy, I mean, just shoot me in the ovaries, why don't you.

This book obviously continues with Peter and Sara's story. If you haven't read read the first book, STOP. Do not pass go, do not collect $200...immediately download Zaires' Twist Me series and start there.

You're welcome.

Now, to be honest, I don't love Peter/Sara as much as I love Juilan/Nora.
Which isn't to say that I don't love Peter/Sara.
I just LOVE Julian and Nora.
I have a soft spot for them as my "original" Zaires' couple, if you will, and I just think they are adorable in their crazy homicidal love.

But I still love Peter and Sara and I still seriously enjoyed this story.

That said.

You know who I love MORE than Peter/Sara AND more than Julian/Nora?

description

Lucas and Yulia.

Le sigh.

I just love those two...

So when they showed up in this story?!

description

You bet your fish tail I was excited.

In an effort to keep this spoiler free, I'll stop here.

Long story, short: Fans of Zaires will totally enjoy this one.
It wasn't as "good" as some of her other ones for me, but you know what?
It was pretty darned close.
And a Zaires 4-star is like gold in my book.

I hope you all love it too.

“You will never do this again.” My voice is low and hard as I grip her shoulders and pull back to meet her startled gaze, the fear inside me swamped by fierce determination. “You will not run from me, Sara. Ever. There’s nobody out there who can help you, no place you can hide from me. And if you try this futile stunt again, you’ll regret it—I give you my word on that. You think you know what I’m capable of, but you haven’t even scratched the surface. You have no idea of the lengths I’ll go to, ptichka, no clue what I’m willing to do to have you. You’re mine, and you’re staying mine—now and for as long as we’re both alive.”

That night, I danced with Peter's inner monster, and in the process, discovered one in me.

Sara is stolen; her old life is ripped away from her and her new world is only shown in Peter’s eyes.

Isolated in a big house somewhere in Japan’s rural area, up in the mountains; Sara firstly tries to understand what is going on:
-where is she,
-why was she stolen,
-will her parents be okay,
-how many lies can she tell them before her father dies from a heart attack,
-are Peter’s comrades dangerous for her life and wellbeing,
-is she truly a prisoner?

Secondly she naturally tries to escape. But escape to where? There are only trees around and cliffs and snow. Before she foolishly kills herself, Peter brings her back to the house.

Thirdly, there is acceptance of the situation. She cannot run away. Being nice to Peter is the only thing that will keep her alive and she just let the days and the seasons passing by slowly.

Peter, on the other hand, has his ptichka where he wants her, i.e. in his arms. He is tender, he is tough, he looks after her and he punishes her. It depends on her actions and his mood.
When he goes away for missions, he thinks of her. He makes sure that she is well taken care of, well fed, well entertained, well f@cked, well loved and before long she will think of her as the mother of his future children. He is obsessed with her – no matter how much she resists.

The book finishes with a cliffhanger, but I think it is a minor one.
If anything, I expect a lot of fun in the next book with .

I have to admit that Peter looks far more dangerous in this book in comparison to Tormentor Mine #1, while Sara looks far more annoying.

The book is entertaining but I liked it a bit less than book 1. My problem with this book derives from Peter and Sara’s relationship. It feels stuck and that it goes nowhere.

Yes, I saw passion, abandonment, obsession, lust by both characters in this book.

But I did not see sacrifice and selfless acts that can result to love.
What truly has Peter done for Sara?
What truly has Sara done for Peter?

So, where is thing going? The third book can either elevate the whole story or it can make it a mediocre love story.

I am looking forward to seeing where this crazy obsession will go.

4.5 stars on my reread (audio): daily foot rubs and gourmet meals?

I’m about to knock Sara out so I can take her place 💁🏻‍♀️😈🤣. It’s not many times I wish I’d take a heroine’s spot 👀.

No work 😮‍💨
Daily massages and foot rubs 👀 (especially the foot ones)
Home cooked meals
Hair brushing 🫠

I mean. What else could a woman ask for 🤣🤷🏻‍♀️?
I’d like to just sit around and do nothing too 🤡🤣

what I loved on my reread possible spoilers
—umm… the spice was SPICING 🥵🔥. Peter doesn’t let Sara escape him 🫠. I mean. He DOES kidnap her to make sure of it 😅. And when he’s with her, he has the stamina of ten men 😮‍💨🥵. Lordt. Help Sara’s v please 😅

—Peter’s OBSESSION with Sara in all ways 👏🏻. The way he looks at Sara is the way I look at chocolate 🤣. He can’t wait to devour her 🔥just like I can’t wait to devour a Milky Way (or Twix 🤣). Yaasss Peter yaaaass

—his boday is bodaying 🔥 in all ways 😉

—the dubcon/noncon ish 🥵. Peter knows she can try denying it, but she wants him

—not caving in right away 😅. Look. I’m not gonna lie. If I was taken away from my family and work, I’d also be feisty AF and Sara tries to be too 🤷🏻‍♀️. I wouldn’t expect less 🤷🏻‍♀️

—when she runs away 👀 he chases after her and then takes her back with him 😅. She can TRY to run 💅, but Peter is just built different 😮‍💨🤣

—he has her climb on his back and he hikes with her for miles because she’s not doing well 🥹🫶. Like. Who does this?!?! This obsessed man does 👏🏻😮‍💨

—he gets JEAAAAALOUS 😈 of his own men 🤣. I mean. Why do men have eyes 🤷‍♀️. They shouldn’t be looking at her 🤡

—MINEMINEMINE 😈

—YULIA AND LUCAS ❤️. Man. I missed these two! I need to reread their trilogy. It has some of the best 🔥 scenes I’ve read (well… there’s this ONE scene where… okay I need to focus on THIS book 🤣)

—Peter’s men 🫶. I love getting to know them more and seeing their brotherhood ❤️

—BREEEEDING 👀. Peter wants what he wants 😈 and Sara can TRY to stop him, but yeah… she can’t 🤡🤣🫣🫣🫣

What I wanted more of
—Sara not caving in so quickly 😒. lol but I get it. Where else can she go? 😅 she’s stuck on an island 🫣😅

—her talking to her parents/friends more 😅. While I get the security of it all, I wished we had seen more of this 🫶

Overall, I still loved it

2020 review down below
I finished books 1 and 2 in less than two days. I want to know what happens with Sara and Peter. I love that there is still a fight in Sara even though she can’t resist Peter. I’m excited to know that there are 2 more books left in this series. Now I want to read the other series of the characters that appear in this book.

⚠️safety squad⚠️
-no cheating/sharing/owd/or real omd
-the H gets very jealous of his own men (why do they have eyes)
-dubcon/noncon ish

I have to say that I was somewhat let down by book two of this dark series. I was so into book one, and with the cliffhanger, I was eager to dive right into this installment. My biggest peeve with this book was Sara, the heroine. She continues to fight her attraction to Peter, and to Peter himself. In the first book, I totally understood why she continued to try and escape, or to question her feelings for him....but to go through exactly the same issues into the whole of book two, drove me insane. It really took a lot of the enjoyment out of it. I am not saying that Peter was always in the right of course...let's face it...this is supposed to be "dark" and therefore pretty unrealistic!!!! So, Peter's actions are not something I would accept in "Real life." In romance land though, I will go with his over the top possessiveness, his obsessiveness, and flat out stalker tendencies!!! If I can accept it, then I should think our heroine should at the very least start to fight less...LOL

Will I read book three?? Yeeesss.... I started this journey with Peter and Sara, and I can't not finish it! I do love Anna Zaires's writing, and I am very eager to go back and read her other trilogies!!!! She does the stalker/kidnapping theme very well, and all I can hope is that her other heroine's aren't like Sara!!! LOL For readers who enjoy a strong heroine...maybe they would enjoy Sara. Like I said, in the first book, she didn't irk me too much; but by the second I was done with the same old behaviours she was dishing out!!!

I also am really liking Peter's parnters/ buddies...I hope that in the future we will get more of them too!
Bottom line, I am totally hooked on this authors work...but I will admit that I have to be in the right mood for it! There are no flowery, fairytale-ish actions going on here....nope....just hard core anti heroes that will not take "No" for an answer!!!!

Most things stayed consistent, such as this author’s brilliance in storytelling. I still loved the suspense and drama of Peter and the intensity he injected into Sara’s life. I was still a captive to their story from beginning to end. I think I was even more entertained by this book than the first one of the trilogy. Go figure. But what remained the same… what never changed… was my intense dislike of Sara.

I’m sorry, but I was so completely over her character. I know... her thoughts, actions and reactions were what can be deemed typical of anyone in her situation, however, aside from being a hired assassin, Peter treated her like a Queen. He gave her no reason to be the way she was and by now I would think that this grown azz woman would finally admit to her feelings for him. Yeah, yeah, yeah, in the end there was a bit of a change. AT THE END!! But I had to deal with an entire book of her flip flopping and it left me frustrated, to say the least. Honestly, if I weren’t extremely eager to get my hands on book three, I would venture to say that I’m done with this lady.

I have asked myself how I would react in her situation. But let’s be real… the chances of me being in her position are slim to none. However, if I were… and that’s a big IF ... I’d look at the way that Peter was treating me and how disparate it was to how ‘normal’ men treat their women and be a little bit more appreciative. But that’s just me.

Okay, so I obviously went on a Sara-hating tangent. I could go on, but I don’t want to take up too much of your time. Anyhoo, Peter, as always, was phenomenal. I may be biased (I am), but he keeps making this story powerful to me. He’s the reason why I keep on reading. He’s not only pivotal to this story, he IS the story. He’s just so incredible and if you haven’t started this trilogy yet (read book 1, Tormentor Mine ), you NEED to get on it. There’s another cliffy in this one and I can’t wait to dive back into Peter’s story to see how he’s going to pull off a happy ending with Sara. I really hope she’s ‘awake’ in the next one. With all of these side characters who were obviously main characters in other books, I’ll be adding the other trilogies to my TBR ASAP!

Anna Zaires is one my top fav writers. So I always go in knowing I won't be disappointed.

This book was great. I loved the story and both main characters. The hero was assertive and honest. And the heroine never let her guard down and doesn't give up easily on escaping, even as she falls in love with the hero.

I love a strong heroine who doesn't let her emotions but her head control most of her actions.

But this book was especially weird for me because the heroine and I share a name.

It was...awkward to say the least, specifically listening to the sex scenes. But I guess it's my fault for having such a stupidly common name.😂

Also, Anna knows me weakness. I LOVE cliffhangers. Especially cliffhangers laced with easter eggs.

I read the Twist Me series by Anna, so the cliffhanger that happened in this book was especially exciting for me.

Can't wait to read the next one!

╰┈➤ STILL TOXIC AF:

This book was as toxic as the first one, but now it's moved from the STALKING trope to CAPTOR/CAPTIVE 😗 I swear I was excited to see how it would happen and all!

There wasn't much in this book, except what I concluded is that Peter might have erectile dysfunction because he was hard EVERY CHAPTER!

Sara was an emotional mess, and she fought, pleaded, cried A LOT (nearly every chapter, too?) and felt defeated, helpless, andddd kindaaaa accepting him. This book was full of smut only, with Peter being inconsiderate sometimes or giving Sara the FULL PRINCESS TREATMENT and having sex every night! Though I love his gentle treatment, this book was repetitive AF! Nothing really happened in it until the last 5% when Sara got into an accident, and now Peter finally understood that it's not the life Sara wants!

He can give her the life she wants, though, and for that, he has to do one last assassination job to leave this life, which is TO ELIMINATE ESGUERRA (from Twist Me). So, obviously, it won't happen lol

Yan is my love! ✨💕

3-3.5 OBSESSED Stars!

Anna Zaires is one of my favourite authors. I have read and enjoyed all of her books so far. She never fails to deliver the most obsessive/possessive alpha males with strong female heroines.

This book follows the last books ending with Peter whisking an unconscious Sara away from everyone and thing she loves. He is done playing house with his little love and can no longer remain in the USA with the FBI on his tail. However he does not intend to go anywhere without his ptichka.

I need Sara like I need air and water, and I'll never regret keeping her."

Peter Sokolov is my everything. The level of his devotion towards Sara was too much. His every waking thought was consumed by her. Even when he tried to be stern or harsh towards her he always gave into the need to please her and cherish her.

Sara on the other hand constantly fought her feeling for Peter. How could she love her abductor? The man who stole her life away? Despite how he makes her feel Sara never stops looking for a way to escape his clutches. She was a very realistic heroine, she wasn't tstl and her reaction to the situation was very NORMAL. Almost too normal... I really wanted her to stop fighting it at some points in the story. It felt like a repeat from book 1, we didn't really gain much emotionally from Sara in this story.

"Obsession is not love, and that's what he feels for me: a dark, terrible obsession that ruins and destroys."

Peter constantly professed his love, while Sara held back. I despise unrequited love so I'm really hoping the next story picks up on the emotional part of their relationship. Physically they have got it down pat. I'm hoping the final book in this trilogy ends off in a bang! The first two books had slower paces so I'm looking forward to what the finale will bring :)

P.S. It was great to have a cameo from Lucas & Yulia! However I would have loved if my fave Julian made an appearance as well :)

A.R review-
After reading this book i am pretty sure Anna Zaires is one of those writers who can always give one of the best alphas and even after following the same formula story she can make me read it again and again...

Her series always follow the stranded captivation but every time i could'nt stop myself from reading it and wanting more....
Great read, great hero and enjoyable read...

Well this cliffhanger pissed me off though but what can i do beside waiting :/ hope the other one comes soon....

Well bugger me what an end of a cliffy. No, I just can’t wait until all three books come out. I really don't know why I do it to myself. A glutton for punishment I guess.

But wait a second I actually do know why it is Anna Zaires, so nuff said, am I right?

Her writing is flawless, her story telling captivating and obsessing. No pun intended. It is also engaging, action packed yet with a softer side. I couldn’t get enough and I still want more. I love her characterization and how complex the characters are and where you feel the mixed feelings that they have as I also had those mixed feelings. Got to love yourself some mind-effery.

Book two picks off where book one finishes and you are immersed in an unwanted kidnapping but Sara choose him and Peter was never going to let her go. Kidnapping is nothing compared to waterboarding.

I love Peter he brings obsession to a whole new level. He is not the monster and between all three hot alphas be it Julian, Lucas and Peter it is hard to choose a favorite, I would take all three at once, I like a challenge. Hahahaha.

Sara wants to get back to her old life. I would have liked to see less resistance from Sara but at the same time I don't expect things to run smoothly and for her to go along with everything.

But it leads them to a stalemate of epic proportions and with that shocker of an ending, I am not a happy bunny. I am bloody livid, what? how? why? No way. But alas it is so and I can’t wait to see what Anna comes up with next.

Woman you are the dog’s bollocks.

Technically this series can be read as a standalone but in my humble opinion to get the full experience this series I would say you MUST read The Twist Me Series & then The Capture Me Series obviously.

Probably the best installment in the series.

Peter whisks Sara, his unwilling captive, all the way to Japan. Trapped on a mountaintop hideout, they're forced to spend lots of time together, leading to interesting emotional explorations as well as a good look at Peter's mercenary/assassin business.

Hmmmmmm

I expected more from this read. Being a physician and having such empathy for others I found it hard to swallow her complete submission to Peter. Granted I can see why Peter turned out like he did but his actions aren’t justifiable.

For me if Sara had put up more of a fight and wasn’t so easily manipulated I would have enjoyed this more. Once she started accepting Peter is trying to force a pregnancy on her I lost my #%<^. I mean come on, you’ve been kidnapped. Lost your family. Lost you job. Are kept captive. I think adding an unwanted pregnancy on top of that should have been the last straw. A relationship should be out of the question.

Still going to continue this series. But I am proceeding with caution.

Happy reading! DD💕

Obsession Mine continues right where Tormentor mine left us.

IF YOU HAVE NOT READ TORMENTOR MINE DO NOT PROCEED

Anna Zaries WTF!!! Seriously that ending 😭😭
In this book the relationship between Sara and Peter becomes more intense, we know she's still resents him for kidnapping her but we also know she wants him just as bad as he wants her.
Boundaries are pushed and the sex scences are HAF.
The book was perfectly written FFS I was cursing so much i had to edit my first review. I NEED BOOK 3 NOW

I really enjoyed the first book in this series. I wanted something dark and I got it. Well this second book wasn't what I expected. Not as dark. And Sarah bored me to death. I don't think I'm going to read the next book, but at least I was able to finish this one and add it to my reading challenge.

2 stars!!!

Some parts were okay. Most parts were not.

I decided not to continue reading this series because I’ve had enough of Sara. I just can’t hide my disappointment about this. I was so excited with this one because I loved the Twist Me series so much. But this one? I find the characters annoying and I find the story so frustrating.

What a bummer. ☹️

Obsession Mine (Tormentor Mine #2)
By: Anna Zaires
4.5 Stars

Please notice that this is book 2 in the Tormentor Mine series. You must have read Tormentor Mine (book 1) before reading this one.

Picking up right where we left off, Peter takes Sara away from her life. Her life as an Ob/Gyn Doctor, Daughter of parents who adore her and the FBI knocking at her parent’s door questioning them…

Peter knows one thing for sure, he will not survive without Sara. Sara will only escape if Peter dies. Peter can confirm that!! As we weave through the daily routine of what a captor does to plot her escape, Peter is taking on new jobs. Jobs he is taking in hopes that someday his bank roll will be huge enough to retire.

It's not till Peter opens the last email of the day, that he realizes that this could be the job that allows him to retire.

Darn you Anna Zaires!!! I just threw my kindle saying NOoooooooo!!!! I will not allow this to happen!!!! What an ENDING!!! Need BOOK 3 STAT!!!

4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Stars! Peter! Can’t get enough of him. He’s so alpha and possessive. Great addition to the series.

I really enjoyed this but not as much as the first book. I was really excited to dig into this after that cliffhanger but most of it ended up being repetitive with either Sara wanting to escape or enjoying her Stockholm syndrome sexing.
I don’t know why they made it sound like Lucas got to be afraid of Peter as if he can’t hold his own. That bit really annoyed.
And that cliffhanger. Had me chuckling so hard. Same Julian Esguerra we all or a different one? 😂

It’s here, finally! Oh, how I‘ve waited for OBSESSION MINE, the second book in Anna Zaires’ Tormentor Mine trilogy to be released! And it’s as deliciously dark and gritty as I hoped it would be and more, Peter’s deadly obsession with Sara slowly becoming my addiction as well.

And, oh, Peter Sokolov. Tall, dark and handsome – possessive and dangerous – and simply not a good man – a monster, as Sara so often likes to call him. And yet he treats her like nothing but a queen in every aspect that counts, well, apart from the two minor ones: setting her free and in the bedroom. Because Sara is his, irrevocably, utterly, until death does them part – there is no need to exchange vows for him to know that. His obsession with her is borderline unhealthy, and when he has to leave the country to dodge the FBI, he simply kidnaps Sara and takes her with him – easy as.

And Sara… She knows she should loathe the man that stole so much more than just her former life, that Peter is bad news, deadly, creepy and twisted and simply wrong. And she does fight this undeniable attraction to him with every bone in her body – but feels that she is losing spectacularly, that she somehow, to some degree, craves Peter’s darkness, his roughness – even more so when she learns more about his past and the events that shaped the man he is today…

Book one was great, but this one was absolutely fabulous! I became so much more intrigued by all things Peter, the walking contradiction this man poses, by the all-consuming, slightly dark-tinged affection he is showering Sara with. Maybe I even got a bit obsessed with all the secrets being revealed myself. Boundaries are pushed, panties set on fire by the explosive tension and the wickedly dirty sex between the two of them.

And then there was this cliffhanger… ugh! It’s nasty, it’s evil – at least when you’ve read other books by this author and loved its characters as well. Again, I will be waiting on pins and needles for the sequel (and conclusion) of this dark yet emotional tale. Bring on Destiny Mine!

For me, the Twist Me trilogy will always be my favourite. I have this loyalty to Julian and Nora, and their dark, obsessive love. In principle, I am always compelled by a hero who simply sees a woman, obsesses over her, and steals her right in the comfort of her own home town in order to keep her. If I re-read a book more than three times, it goes straight into my favourites. I found the narrative so romantic too, with Nora's naivety and strength in stark comparison to Julian's callousness and weakness of her existence. Especially since he is a sociopathic illegal arms dealer, and holds an empire in his hand. It's fantastic, I would recommend everyone to read it.

Julian Esguerra's second in command was Lucas Kent, an American soldier. The Capture Me trilogy narrated Lucas and Yulia's story. Yulia who double crossed Julian as a spy, and cost him the lives of fifty of his strongest men. This caused a rift between Lucas and his employer as he falls in love with Yulia. Due to my loyalty to Julian and Nora, if someone isn't in their good books, they aren't in mine, so whilst I enjoyed the series, I didn't re-read it.

The Tormenter Mine trilogy narrates the story of Peter. Peter who used to work with Julian for a loyal five year service in order to maintain the list of people responsible for killing his wife and child. However, when Julian gets kidnapped, Peter hatches an escape plan using Nora, Julian's wife as bait to discover Julian's location and save him. Nora proposed the plan with the immediate promise of a list desperate to retrieve her husband. However for Julian, putting Nora at risk in any way led him to have a vendetta against Peter.

In Tormentor Mine, the first book, Peter is systematically obliterating all the names from the list he received, until he comes across Sara. She is the window of the man he kills in order to avenge his family, and she has become his obsession. It started with Peter drugging and water boarding Sara in lieu of information on her husband, and ended with him drugging her from the protection of the FBI to steal her for himself.

"Nobody is taking Sara away from me.
She chose me, and she’s staying mine.”

Peter truly loves Sara. But in this life, the past will forever be an obstruction between them. She will not fall in love with her husbands killer. A husband she once loved.

“Yes, I drugged and took her without asking, but she had to know I wouldn’t leave her behind. I told her how much I loved her, and though she didn’t say the words back to me, I know she’s not indifferent.”

***
“I’m saying that I love you, ptichka… and that I hate you. Because it hurts, you see, knowing you still love him, still think about him when you’re with me.” My voice roughens, my grip tightening as she again tries to scoot away. “Your husband’s killer—that’s how you see me, that’s all you sometimes see. If I could wipe him from your mind, I’d do it in a heartbeat. I’d erase every record of his existence, make him into the nothing that he is. In a different world, you’d have been born mine, but in this one, I had to fight for you… kill for you.”

Peter is constantly reassuring himself. That her captivity will change into a desire to want this life with him, to fall in love with him. To let go of her career as a doctor. To never see her family again. And he does whatever he can to make her happy, accessing latest medical journals and reports, keeping her well fed and satisfied, pampered even. Yet, it is a shadow without her willingness, despite her gravitation to him.

“She might be having second thoughts about her decision, but she’ll come around and accept the situation, just like she was beginning to accept our relationship. And then she’ll be happy again—happier, even. We’re going to build a life together, and it’s going to be one she’ll enjoy as well.
I have to believe that, because this is the only way I can have her.”

This love of his lies in obsession. Everything else before it pales in comparison. He had a friendship and respect with his wife, a family from a blip of a one night stand which was robbed from him. But Sara presents a whole new set of ideals.

“My affection for Tamila was just that, a mere echo of the raw emotions Sara evokes in me.

And Sara is beginning to see him for so much more than the man he appears to be. Yet a mirage of a happy life will never settle her desire to escape the captivity she is in. She will always keep trying.

"I feel so much anger at the cruelty of the world that shaped him into the dark, tormented man he is today, into this ruthless, amoral killer who, despite everything, craves love and family.”

I will admit, even as Peter admits he loves Sara and shows it in his actions, I can't feel it in the writing. Not in the way I felt it with Julian and Nora or even Lucas and Yulia. That might be a completely individual thing, but I didn't feel that penetrating romance. The cliffhanger.... If my baby Julian gets one tiny hair hurt from his lush Mexican locks, I will cut you Peter. He's already lost an eye and has a prop in.

3.5 stars.

P.s. Every single book in all the trilogies are safe.

One of my most anticipated reads this year (2017): dark, compelling, twisted, yet strangely seductive

*ARC provided by author*

If you have read book 1 in this trilogy, you are likely aware that it moves heavily into the territory of non-consent. Tormentor Mine ended with Sara warning Peter that the FBI was moving in on him and he took that as tacit agreement to kidnap her, so he does. This marks the end of their domestic arrangement where she continued to work as a doctor and came home to him each evening to be pampered (and more). Now he has whisked her away from everything she has known, her job, her parents, her friends/co-workers, her former life, to a secluded mountain-retreat on the other side of the world. There is no escape (Sara tries) and although Peter professes his love it appears more like he is obsessed with her. Sara’s feelings are torn: she misses her old life, she does not think she in love with Peter, yet they have this incredibly strong chemistry, this attraction that at times seems all-consuming. And when Peter is away on one of his missions with his men, she is worried sick about him. She wants to escape him, but she does not want anything to happen to him.

Intellectually I feel I should abhor the level of non-consent in this tale, yet I don’t. Trying to analyze my reactions I think there are different reasons. On the one hand Sara is a grown woman, and she had a life and successful career before Peter which makes her easy to relate to. And although their sex is sometimes rough and Peter ventures into light bondage and breath play, he is never really abusive with her. The one time they get physical outside of the bedroom, it’s Sara who (almost inadvertently) manages to land a blow to his face and to draw some blood. We also get some glimpses of Peter’s childhood and his upbringing, and to say it was bleak is an understatement. And besides the fact that he keeps her captive (mostly against her will) Peter is the epitome of the perfect boyfriend/lover: he is attentive, he tries to fulfill her every wish, he makes breakfast for her every day, he spends time with and lets her call her parents to reassure them that she is fine. So as readers we are drawn in and made to empathize with Peter and to understand how an educated woman like Sara would stand for this kind of treatment.

The story is told with shifting perspectives from Sara’s and Peter’s point of view. So we commiserate with Sara’s conflicting feelings of wanting to escape, wanting her life back, guilt for sleeping with the killer of her husband, but also her physical attraction, her unintentional liking for what he does make her feel. Peter’s emotions are also conflicted: he craves Sara physically, but he also wants to make her love him back. In the course of their seclusion in the mountain-retreat he starts to realize that he cannot force Sara to feel towards him as he feels towards her and that keeping her captive might break her. But since the feelings she has awoken in him are so violent and all-consuming, he just can’t bring himself to let her go. This conflict is exacerbated when Sara is hurt trying to flee from a friend’s home where he stashed her while away on another job... and that’s where this installment ends. There are some hints of exciting things to come with the promise of a grand finale, including revisiting characters from the connected series of Twist Me and Capture Me.

My personal opinion

-----------

Dr Sara Cobakis, widow, is in the hands of her captor.
Peter Sokolov got his revenge. George, Sara's husband, who pretended to be a journalist, but actually was an agent, was one of the perpetrators of Peter's family death.
However, in this meeting between Peter and the woman, he did not expect to be obsessed with her.
He takes her with him, even though the FBI was behind, trying to protect her.

Peter, his team and Sara go to a safe place, a mountain home in Japan. There, it would be impossible to escape. An earthquake had destroyed the only access route by land. Now, just by helicopter.

Sara did everything possible - and almost impossible - to get rid of her captivity. But without being able to escape, she decided to save energy for when the chance appeared.
This gave Peter a chance to show her a softer side.
Peter simply adored her. He tried to do the best for her, cook her favorite dishes, and even set up a dance floor with a sound system where she could record her own music.
Peter allowed her to talk to her parents on the phone every week.
And the romantic moments they had alone, made Sara's heart engulf a man she should despise.

The months go by, and Peter's team would go out for a new mercenary job.
The first time this happened, she thinks seriously taking advantage to escape, but she stays concern about him and his team.
The second time, she would not stay on that mountain, but somewhere else, sheltered by a longtime friend of Peter. Sara sees the opportunity to escape approaching. She could count on the help of someone who had compassion for her problem.
However, even though Sara was able to leave, her greatest fear had materialized, even if she denied it: she was already stuck in the shackles of her feeling for Peter.
Peter, in turn, finds himself obsessed with her. He understands that he is making her unhappy, but he doesn't know how he could live without her.

Both had a choice to make, and regardless of it, someone would get hurt.
What would be the best way?

Second part of Peter and Sara's story.
Fights, revealed secrets and restarts.
Lots of adrenaline and the strong desire to go to the next chapter ...
