Rome - The Rise and Fall is designed as a bitesize, concise but easy to read retelling of what happened to one of the greatest empires in history. The Roman Empire began with a boy named Romulus and ended with a boy named Romulus. Between the years 753 BCE and 476 CE, this magnificent empire rose in might, but died in misery. This story is derived from the narrations of the ancient writers who themselves were eyewitnesses and it draws upon the myths that invigorated the Roman spirit. The dream that became the Roman Empire was created upon a Utopian scenario, but was vulnerable to the human frailties that besiege everyone. Hence its rise and hence its fall.
This book certainly had some problems, unfortunately. The writing style was a little awkward and strange, to begin with. Also, the authors seem to have a strange blend of actual history and Roman mythology... but calls it all history. The authors chose to highlight particular events in the Roman Empire's history. I thought that some were good choices while others were not. Because of all these issues, I do not feel like I can recommend this book.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
From childhood I have grabbed anything about Rome and the history of the Roman Empire you will want to read this one. In school we read a history of Rome and the empire we do not get the total picture of the history many of the emperors, kings and magistrates are not even mentioned what read about is Julies Caeser, Caligula, Constantine, Nero others are just schemed over or not even mention. Most we read about is the bad emperors or what if they have a good side like Julius Caeser, we hear about all the good he was and the good he did we never hear of the cruelty he did to people and to the people he fault. Same with Nero and so many more yes there was a bunch of rulers after Caeser and Nero or Caligula. Near the end there was twenty plus rules in a span of 20 years some who lasted one month or less to one years. In my reading about the history of Rome there was a lot left out and the author here tells the whole story from the period there was not Rome just huts and a community before the battles with Carthage and so many other city states. You get walked thru the true history of Rome Magistrate, King, Emperor and a Caeser. So, I say if like all things about Rome you need to grab this book.
For enthusiasts of history, this book is an absolute gem! Offering a comprehensive overview of the major events in the history of Rome, it presents a captivating narrative that is both informative and accessible. What sets this book apart is its ability to deliver everything you need to know about Rome's rich history in a manner that is anything but dull. Unlike some dry and tedious history texts, this one keeps you hooked from start to finish with its lively storytelling and insightful commentary.

If you like history, you will love this book! It covers all the major happenings in the history of Rome and it is an easy read. It is very much a survey of history, rather than a deep in depth look at everything, but I really liked that. It gave me everything I wanted to know, and a bit more, and it was easily digested. Some history books can be so boring and dull and this is definitely NOT one of those. I highly recommend it for anyone that enjoys history and/or just wants to brush up on their Roman history knowledge.

Long long ago in a land called Fayetteville when podcasts were a very new idea there was this first iPad which I had and attached to speakers so I could hear the young woman and her friends (man and sometimes another girl) tell wonderful stories of history and I wonder if this is them only now with out the crazy inside deals..I do miss her voice and wonderful stories
I love reading Rome History. I loved reading this book. I learnt a lot. Kings, Titans, Barbarians, and the Fall of the Roman Empire, and so much more. Well written.
