I will admit, at first I was rather skeptical to read this as it gave me a dystopian society version of Squid Games. Despite me liking the show, the concept was not my cup of tea. Survival games make me queasy. Especially when I know the characters that we get attached to will most probably end up dying. So I stay away from them like I did with Alice in the Borderlands despite it consisting of a stellar cast with some of my all time favorite Japanese actors and actresses. So one could imagine my unease going into this one but I can happily say that it was quickly dashed away by the end of the first arc, which is the shortest in the novel so it’s quite fast and easy to get sucked in.
Yes it’s as the story. It is somewhat of a pseudo survival game and still into the story I do not know what exactly they are trying to achieve through this. The contestants are chosen randomly and without any consent or prior knowledge. I am well into the third arc as I write this review and few key points are discovered by our protagonists by now but there are far more to be discovered before we get to the core of the problem. You Huo and Qin Jiu is fast becoming two of my favorite MCs and I’m loving the energy they have between them. I live for their banter and I have to admit the writing of the author is simple but at time very funny. Especially her dry humor. This is my first time reading Mu Su Li and I can already say she’s going on to my list of authors always to look forward for.
Now without wasting any more time, I’m gonna dive straight into the second part of the series.
VERY COOL CONCEPT AND PLOT. Also all of the characters are funny to analyze. Even though Yuo Huo seemed a little bit too perfect but the vague backstory is probably will explain it later.
This book is super good! Although the opening is a little bit too hard to get through because of the lack of explanation, it slowly getting clearer once you read each pages.
Anyways what's poor is also the inconsistent pacing, sometimes it gets too fast but sometimes it gets too slow. Not really bothersome tho, just a little unfortunate.
I can't wait to get to book 2, can't wait to uncover the truth. AHH this book is amazing.
