I'm a UK based author who loves to read and write all things romance. As Skye Jones I write steamy paranormal romance that ranges from light and fun to dark and gritty.

As S.R. Jones I write darker contemporary romance and romantic suspense.

I live in Yorkshire, and get lots of inspiration from the windswept moors, the old stone buildings and the Celtic myths of this fair isle.

My dogs are my favourite people, and I'm quite fond of my husband too. I love chocolate and starbucks mochas and keep meaning to give them up for a life as a svelte fashion plate - it never happens!

Not sure what I expected when diving into this book but what I got was a whole lot of insanity, savagery and a weird Stockholm syndrome relationship that makes me feel icky. I don’t really know how to feel about the book at this point because it was pretty off putting at times. While I’m fine with a dark and dangerous read, this didn’t really feel that way and I’m stuck on some of the first hero’s behaviors. As a vampire, for ages he collects women from the pit who he then slowly uses and sleeps with them, makes others sleep with them and a whole side of torment when they act out of turn. I didn’t find all these scenes sexy or arguably dark they just wrong to me such as with the heroines first time. With his manipulation powers it’s hard to accept her acquiescence as approval. She’s just one of many and I don’t love that at all. This is a RH novel and so far we have a human, vampire king and a gargoyle. I’m guessing she’ll be adding a wolf or two to her harem but time will tell. Going to give 5e next one a go and hope I like it better 😑

Be warned this is part of a serial and ends with a cliffhanger. THANK heavens the series is complete!!

One girl, five monsters, one hell of a ride. And with that one line I was sold. I needed to know how this story played out. I mean don’t you want to know too?

Night Captive is delicious sex filled novelette with a substantial amount of story. You’ll experience a world that exists within a world and meet a host of supernatural characters and get a glimpse into a larger world waiting to be explored.

Vampires and Werewolves are real.
Gargoyles are reincarnated demons.
Witches have become mere myths.

You will be treated to Aisha a strong willed heroine with special blood. An OTT alpha vampire – Dashiell, the Citadel’s leader. Then there’s Ezra the submissive, sexy human consort of Dashiell. And not to be forgotten the damaged but dominant demon gargoyle Gideon. With a mere glimpse of sexy brooding werewolves.

I have to admit I was a little disappointed that this is titled as a reverse harem yet we saw more of a traditional harem dynamic play out.

Hopefully in the next few books🤞🏽we’ll get larger groups with Aisha as her harem’s focus.

SIDE NOTE: This may not be the exact description of Aisha but I imagine her to look similar to Megan Fox in this picture:

Book Review: Night Captive: A Dark Paranormal Reverse Harem Romance (Wicked Monsters Book 1)
Author: Marissa Farrar, Skye Jones
My Rating: 5 Stars
Reviewer - Tammy Book Nook Nuts

REVIEW
The first book in a new series and it left me breathless...
Aisha knows she will be taken eventually from the Pit the only home she really knows. Her time will come and the monsters will come.
Dashiell is not what he seems and yet he is more.
He is dark, brooding, and very dominant.
However, he is not all that awaits Aisha at the castle she was taken to.
Are they all monsters? Does she want them? Will any be her savior?
All I can say is hold on to your seats for this story as it will drag you upside down and inside out. And the hotness is scorching.
The ending left me screaming, I want more so much more...

Dark & Sexy New World!!

Aisha is raised in “The Pit”. Surrounded by Nosferatu vampires who will devour you in a heartbeat. When she reaches the age where she is “interesting” she is taken by another type of vampire; the king of vampires Dashiell. Unlike the feral Nosferatu, Dashiell is powerful, handsome and charismatic.

Taken to the Citadel, she is introduced to a whole new world. She cannot understand why the humans there acquiesce with no protest, at first. Dashiell is intrigued by her dignity and spark. She is no blubbering female and stands up to him. He also discovers there is something special about her – but he is not the only one to notice.

Great world-building, and engaging characters. I am very eager for more!!

I admire anyone who can write an entire book because I wouldn't be able to finish even a single chapter, but this is just badly written, I was cringing the whole time and honestly I stopped reading like 7-8 chapters in.

I don't even know where to start...

Repetitive in my head dialogue, first to third person switching, mistyping he instead of she multiple times throughout.

Very limited world building, and when there is it makes no sense to me. She's from The Pit, but then she's running to a river and admiring the mountains in the pit?! Has one seen a pit?!

She's a slave, but called a serf?! mmmk 🤷‍♀️

It's short... so guess I'm just going along for the ride at this point, where's book 2

I’m both torn and not torn about this book, which I understand is confusing. I’m not torn in the sense that I can 100% say with certainty that I did not like this book. But I am torn in the sense that this is the first of four and that gives the series a lot of time to improve…or at least grow past the things I hated so much in this first book. Should I give the next a chance or not? Decision, decisions.

There are numerous reasons I didn’t like this book. But I’ll state upfront that the writing itself seems fine. I didn’t even notice any serious editing mishaps. And I appreciate the bisexual characters. But I just really did not enjoy the overall tone of the book and there were several linguistic quirks that almost drove me to rage. Here’s the biggest one. The authors refer to Aisha and her ilk as serfs. But they aren’t. They’re slaves. These words do not mean the same thing. They cannot be used interchangeably and the characters are not serfs. They are property. They don’t have any of the rights or protections of serfdom. They are slaves. And I found Jones and Farrar’s avoidance of the language reprehensible.

If you are going to be ballsy enough to play with the power dynamic of a master/slave sexual relationship, you shouldn’t skirt around the realities to make it more palatable by wimping out on the language. You need to call it what it is. Anything less is just skeevy.

This is only reinforced by the way that Dashiell is referred to as Aisha’s lover. He is not her lover. She is not his lover. He owns her. There is no equality. There is not relationship outside of his ownership of her.

Look, I’m not ranting that this is a master/slave dark reverse harem erotic novel. I’m not saying these shouldn’t be written. I’m ranting that Jones and Farrar wanted the titillation of a master/slave dynamic without being willing to own up to the fact that that is what it is. They water it down and artificially present is as something other than slavery. And that I have a serious issue with.

When I mentioned this elsewhere someone said, “Sounds like some white supre[macist] bs that re-imagines serfdom as the same thing as slavery.” And that’s just it. It feels supremacist. It feels like someone wanted to snicker and bask in the slavery trope, but didn’t want to truly have to face the atrocity that is slavery.

Again, write slavery tropes, sure. But be honest enough to call it what it is.

But the book ends with Aisha escaping her slave master and there’s a chance of the next book being more tolerable. But I honestly don’t expect much.

This is just erotica, and that's fine. I just prefer world and character building and there really wasn't any of that. It was just a chick gets picked up by a vampire to be his food and fuckdoll. Which again, is fine... I just found it boring.

Well, this is the first book I have read from this author and I have to say that I will be reading more. We have Aisha who is special and yet she has no idea why. She has been raised to think of a certain way and not in the best of circumstances. This book has many components such as the paranormal. We have vampires, gargoyles, nosferatu, and wolves besides humans. There is a segregation of people and the vampires being at the top. Aisha is taken to stay with Dashiell and here she meets Ezra and Gideon. The thing is there is something there but what and is alluded throughout the book. So you will have the mystery, a little action, and some steamy scenes. The story will keep you want to keep reading to find out what will happen. I want more of this series and cannot wait.

I am a huge fan of Skye Jones but for her Mafia Romance stories, so this was a new genre for me with her writing and I have to admit I LOVED IT. Night Captive is a fast past wonderfully written story that kept me captivated to the very end. I was so happy to see there would be more coming when I finished this story.

Skye and Marissa didn't hold back when it came to this wicked story. This is a strong storyline but there are also some very steamy sex scenes that kept you going throughout. I am really happy to continue reading this series.

There is only one thing that can make read a genre that I don't really like, and that's the author.
If I love the author I'll give it a try.
Everyone knows that paranormal is not my cup of tea.
I'm a raw girl type of girl and I'm not going to lie. I was nervous but curious at the same time, because the blurb oh lord, it sounded hot...
I've been reading Skye Jones aka SR Jones books for a while now and when she told me that she was co-writing a paranormal book on was a bit uncertain.
Mainly because I don't really like the genre but girls...
It's a first for me from Marissa Farrar and let's just say that I enjoyed it.
Night Captive is their latest release and explores Aisha's life.
Aisha was raised to think one way but then nothing is what it seems.
She has been living in the Pit and she knows that someday she will be taken but what she wasn't counting was...
Well... It was different from what I've read so far.
This book really captivated me in a good way.
Great plot, super engaging, and hot as hell.
Dayum... Those scenes...
It was a great reading, despite the fact that I'm not into paranormal.
I enjoyed each chapter and I'm mad...
Mad because it's over and now I have to wait I don't know for how long for the next one.
Shy guys? Why?
Eagerly waiting for the next book.

Kidnap

Didn’t love it. It was fully Stockholm syndrome and no real love. The main male character was bossy and demanding in a gross way. He abused her and his punishments were to force someone else on her and have them scare her “for her own good”. From the description of book two it sounds like she goes from one controlling man to more controlling men trying to break her so I won’t be reading it. Do not recommend.

This had so much potential !!!
I was really intrigued by Gideon, the monstrous gargoyle stuck on the roof... Finally Dashiell brings him in to punish the FMC for not doing as told (no comment). He’s told by Dashiell to “Not take it easy on FMC”. So Dashiell turns him back into a human (albeit a large one with wings). Gideon then proceeds to meet FMC for the first time and spank her 20 times during which she has an orgasm because he’s playing with her love button. He then has sex with her with is big appendage and she proceed to have another orgasm. Then Gideon returns on the roof. Felt like such a waisted opportunity...

For one I fail to see how this could be considered a “punishment” since clearly this treatment will not encourage FMC to change her behaviour. Secundo, the whole interaction felt superficial (wham bam thank you mam) and yet the author tells us that both of them felt a very strong connection to one another after this interaction. Oh please 🙄🙄🙄

Finished the 1st book but will not be continuing series...

Owner and slave dynamic right off the bat which isn't the problem as that could've been further developed eventjally. Her personality makes no sense. Being fiery in front of a massive stranger that 100% can kill you with a flick of their hand? That's not bravery or courage that's stupidity with no self preservation. Tried too hard to make her seem like a badass but her actions are illogical having been raised in a human pig pen. Unbelievable.

Slow- Possible spoilers

I've never read anything by this author before. That said, I'm going to assume that, since the book is pretty short, the story will get better. I'll also assume that she's still setting up the plot. So, I'll give the series a chance and read on.

That being said, I gave this book a 2 star rating because right now our female lead (Aisha) seems to be run by her hormones. While I don't mind quick burn romances (which this definitely is), this just seemed to be a bit unrealistic. Aisha is kept in the Pit from the time she's 3. Once she comes of age, she's taken from the Pit by a mysterious man. She expected to be taken as everyone before her had once they came of age. So, she's not surprised by this. Once she gets to the Citadel, the vampire that took her tells her he's the leader and she will now be his blood serf. She's to comply with all his demands or he'll feed her to the nosferatu. Despite having been taken and commanded to allow him to feed from her and give him her body, she complies pretty easily and quickly because she finds him attractive and she's curious. I rolled my eyes at this, but that's pretty much what happens. She basically jumps in bed with him quickly despite her virginity. Everything progresses quickly from there. She goes from basic intimacy with one guy to back entry penetration by a different guy while the first one watches. Then, because she was naughty, she's punished by being forced to have sex with someone completely different. However, she's ok with all of this because she's attracted to all of them. Some people have suggested Stockholm syndrome and I have to agree with them. I get that this is a fantasy, but it could be a bit more realistic. I haven't met anyone who is ready for kinky relationships immediately after losing their virginity, especially not with multiple men, men she barely knows or has never met before the encounter. It was a bit too fast in my opinion for me to develop feelings for any of the characters. While Aisha occasionally has a sharp tongue so the author can make her appear strong, she complies so easily with every demand that she comes across as a weak character without any real fire inside her. Right now I'm not a fan of any of the characters. Ezra might be ok, but I haven't gotten enough information on him to determine that. There is also a mystery surrounding him. We'll see what happens with him.

I will give this series one more book before deciding whether or not to finish it. Right now I feel like we don't have any real character development. We've been introduced quickly to the characters with no depth. The plot appears to just be starting. We shall see if it gets better....

KC Rating: 🍁🍁🍁.5 /🌶.75

I think no one usually passes up on free books, and when the whole serie is free? Well, I think I have not been faster in my life to click buy when I saw a promotional video on TikTok about this series. Okay, I may have stopped for a fraction of a second to see that it's reverse harem and paranormal romance. And then I activated my inner flash. ^_^

I don't even remember when was the last time I read a paranormal romance, and don't get me wrong, I don't count From Blood and Ash Series as paranormal, as it's more fantasy. Paranormal for me is this pure Vampire, Werewolf, Witches thing. Okay, there's a Gargoyle/Demon in the mix here, but well, in my books this serie is associated paranormal!

I devoured the first book, and only by some miracle I didn't start the next book straight away. I usually try to finish the book, write down my thoughts and read next book, or at least finish one book, finish another book (from a different series). Honestly this is so that I write the review about the book, and not include spoilers from the next one.

I had one big issue with the book, which probably relates to two authors writing it and they were using their own writing style, but honestly though why would you alternate the first person retelling POV for Aisha and third person for the guys? It was very distracting. And my brain was constantly rephrasing everything to first person.

Now to the actual plot, the idea of the Pit and the Citadel and the whole world was interesting, and I enjoyed it. Aisha and everyone in the Pit has no idea of their surroundings. They have been living their whole life in the Pit, and for them that is their reality. But it is not a nice reality, as monsters plague their habitat every now and then feasting upon them.

Aisha, who has reached a certain age is given better food now, and soon she will be taken away from the Pit to the unknown. The Unknown happens to be Citadel, where she has to become a blood serf to Dashiel - a very old Vampire, who is also the ruler of all Vampires.

Interactionsions between Aisha and DashielL, are great, and honestly after I warmed up to the vampire I actually liked the guy, especially when he added Ezra (human) to their games. Now don't get me wrong, the guy is still a huge A-hole, but he does have his good moments every now and then.

We don't get to understand a lot about the world, which is a pity, but I hope it will be rectified in the next books.

Spice vise, the book has a lot of it, and for any taste, you want MM, MF, MFM you've got it, but as mentioned before the third person retelling was a off-putting. I would rather read Dashiel's and Ezra's feelings from their perspective than hear someone else describe it to me.

I'm off to read the next book, because the harem will be growing, and that cliffhanger, even though it was kind of expected, makes you want to dive into the second book straight away!

XOXO

I had a really hard time with this book. For one, so far in this book it is a master/slave dynamic and it is being called something else. I am not happy with that. I do like master/slave tropes, so it wasn't because of that fact. Also this book is lacking some world/plot/character building. Everything in this book is just wham, bam thank you ma'am. No pun intended and no thanks were given. I think I might have liked it better if the story had been longer with more attention given to the building of the story.

The one point of the story that I was intrigued with so far is Gideon. His character has the most in depth character building so far. And there wasn't much of that. We learned what he was, how he came to be where he was, and his plans for the future if he can get free. I hope we learn more about the rest of the characters the way we did with Gideon.

I bought this whole series before even reading one of the books. I was intrigued by the blurb and took the risk of buying them all at the same time. I won't make that mistake again. So I am really hoping that the series improves from here.

Exhilarating paranormal read filled with snarky FMC, grumpy vampire, mysterious human, demon cursed into a Gargoyle and unknown werewolves.
Marissa and Skye woven a tale of desperation, survival, and mystery.
Aisha was brought to and raised in The Pit like cattle to the slaughter. Kept corralled by Watchers during daylight and Keepers by night. These vampirelike creatures are grotesque and violent. But one night, Aisha wakes to a very different vampire, Dashiell. He is keeping her as his serf but Aisha is different, and he can't lose her. However, a pack of wolves come knocking.
Night Captive is filled with suspense, secrets, and wanton appetites. Book one ends on a cliffhanger, thank goodness it's an omnibus, no waiting.
Trope
Vampire. MM. Voyeurism. Bõndage. Con non con. Virgin FMC. Possessive MMC.
Quote
You, however, my precious little star, are truly beautiful, and that is a rare commodity.”

Then Gideon began to smile because Gideon knew something. He knew something that neither Aisha, here, or Dashiell did. Dashiell didn’t understand what he’d caught in the Pit this time, and Gideon wasn’t about to tell him.

In a place were everything is different Vampire's rule humans are there food and playthings Aisha who has lived her life in the pit knows her time to be taken is coming. Dashiell the leader of the too different class of vampires rule's the Citadel and Aisha is his new obsession her blood is a temptation he has never know before. She defys him constantly but he will not let her go then his enemies come and everything changes once again. There are lots of different little dynamic character things going on in this book you have Gargoyles, shifters and vampires and another character that is a mystery there are allot of intinse sex scenes some menage bandage and m/m scenes so if this is no your thing you should skip this read. The plot is interesting and hopefully in the next book more of Aisha and the other characters lives will be revealed there is a cliffhanger at the end but the next book comes at the end of the month so not a long wait on book two if you enjoyed the first one..

I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book via Booksprout and this is my honest review.

This was a fun read! If you like A Shade of Vampire by Bella Forrest this is the adult, very racey version of that to a large degree. You have the whole human captive thing and the vampire safe haven bit as well. It's not a carbon copy by any means but there's a lot of similarities.

That said I still thing this is a pretty unique take on the Vampires and the plot direction is interesting and I want to find out more.

This is a pretty short book and it is mostly sex scenes but you are still finding out more information. It is a fast burn with detailed sex scenes. So it depends on what you're looking for. But if you like that sort of thing this is good. The sex scenes weren't cringy and were very HOT!

I will give a heads up there is M/M scenes which some people aren't into, and there is some light BDSM (I'm hoping for more in the future books myself). So if that's not you're cup of tea, move on :)
The POV is the first person for Aisha with alternating chapters in 3rd for the men.

I enjoyed the depiction of life within the Pit surrounded by Watchers and Keepers, along with how and why the humans came to dwell there. In many ways, this tale is similar to other stories I’ve read that feature an alluring vampire and his feisty female human captive. What kept me reading though was the mystery surrounding Aisha. Why is she so special? I enjoyed Aisha’s conflict between her mind and body – her desire to escape the Citadel versus her growing attraction to Dashiell. And who exactly is Ezra, and just what exactly is his endgame? The story is a quick read, and the characters, while engaging are also a little clichéd. There’s some drama, conflict, violence and mystery, along with several explicit sexual encounters including elements of BDSM, plus some M/M scenes. I’m curious to see how this tale continues in Cruel Moon.

I normally don’t choose to read this genre, but I was intrigued by the story’s premise. And I was definitely not disappointed. It’s an intriguing and darkly sexy tale that will hold you in its thrall and possibly breathless at times. This is a fast paced read that draws you in from the beginning and keeps you captivated beyond the end. There are several interesting characters that are introduced as the story unfolds. You may become aware that each one holds a special meaning to the storyline, but quite what that is won’t be revealed in this episode. Yes, this is just the beginning of this fascinating tale and, therefore, ends in a cliffhanger. But don’t despair because it’s a story worth waiting for.

Aisha (FMC) has lived her whole life in the Pit. A place where other humans are put until they come of age to be of use to the monsters that keep them captive. Except she has no idea what lies beyond the Pit for her until Vampire Dashiell comes to claim her. Hes dominant, dark and used to getting his own way. He manipulates and seduces to get Aisha to do what he wants. Using human Ezra to help her do that. Add to that Gargoyle Gideon. My god the hotness from these three is off the charts. I really loved Aisha as a character. Even with being scared of this new world shes being dragged into she doesnt let herself be bullied into something shes not ready for. Its a brilliant start though and that ending was just knockout!!!

Awesome start to a cool new series

Wow. This was so much better than I was expecting. I love Aisha. She's got so much spunk that I just can't help but root for her. I can't wait to find out what happens next! I need to know what's going to happen with the wolves and what secrets Ezra is keeping. I'm also hoping that Aisha can somehow help Gideon. It's really intriguing how this reads like a Gothic novel but is actually set in modern times. I'm really impressed at how seamlessly these two authors write together. If I hadn't seen the two names I never would have guess this was a coauthored book.

Creative book

I waited awhile to read this book and I’m kicking myself for not picking it up earlier. There’s multiple POV’s and enough heat to make me want to hide what im reading when im around other people. I wasn’t a fan of how she forgot about her ppl as she got comfortable in her new life, I expected her to raise a stink as she’s a feisty female who seemed to enjoy healing others while she was in the pit. Otherwise it was a good creative book that hooked you from the start. You definitely feel what the character feels as it’s written so naturally in its description. Can’t wait to read the next book!

2,5* maybe 3*... ish

Ever read something that wasn't completely horrible but didn't impress either?

Well that's these 4 books for me.. also in reality they could have been joined and made into 2 full books as they are now 4 short books..

But yeah.. very very average writing and a bit of a weird story.. it says dark .. but I think awkward is a better word for it. The line between abusive/ non consensual and consensual is a bit thin in this book, but it's more the Stockholm syndrome kind..

Let's leave it at unimpressed and won't be bothering with anything else from this writer and can't say I recommend, because with all the really good RH out there it would not be fair.

So I think it's cruel and unusual punishment to make me wait for the second book. Hahaha
All kidding aside, this book was great. It started out so intriguing and it just kept surprising me. The male leads, Ezra, Dashiell, and Gideon are the men I want for my own reverse harem. Aisha is a heroine that I love reading about. She doesn't put up with anything and has a mouth on her. I'm excited to see what her secret is in book 2. I'm also excited to see how Dashiell and Gideon handle everything. Ezra.....yeah, I want to know his secret too.
Definitely going to read it again.

Aisha was raised in the Pit, till she was taken by Dashiell who cant resist her but doesnt know why? she is special but in what way? add in Gideon and Ezra who cant stay away either your in for a hot steamy read with M/F/M - M/M - F/M paranormal read. well written with a good story line that continues in the next book and hopefully answers all the burning questions this book leaves you hanging for! with action, suspense, hot scenes and vampire/werewolf/demon gargoyle and more!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

First this is a dark romance so don’t expect sweet and funny. Second this book gets extremely hot with plenty of m/f but also so m/m and m/f/m. Aisha is the main character. We slowly learn a little about the world and what humans, vampires, wolves and other types exist. But there is so much more to come. She is taken by a vampire and is used for any purpose he wants. But she is also kept like a treasure. Her wit and attitude will get her in more trouble. But the danger is only starting as this is only the fist book in the dark paranormal romance.
