I’m Ellie Douglas, and like you, I love horror, everything about horror, the goriest and most gruesome of horrors is the ultimate. I can’t get enough. So much so that I write horror. That need to be graphic, and explicit with my horror scenes makes me stand out. I give what I want to read to others, so now they can enjoy a true horror story.
I’m not all about just being graphic, I also build characters that the readers will love and or hate, so they can feel pulled right inside of the story that they are reading. It gives me so much enjoyment when I hear remarks like, ‘You made me want to puke,’ ‘I have nightmares every damned night –thanks,’ and ‘Quentin Tarantino and Steven King made a baby, YOU!’ when I hear comments like that, I know then I’ve succeeded, that also pushes me into writing more and becoming even better.
I’m fun loving, generous and very mysterious. I enjoy spending time with my family, and have four children to keep the horror writing alive. I enjoy helping others and volunteer my services to help Autistic children, I love cosplay and the chance to dress up as a monster, zombie or some other gritty character is fun, oh so much fun.
I love summer, and well…I hate winter. I live in New Zealand and feel often too far away from all the cool stuff going on in the world. I love helping people all the time. I’ve got my hands dipped in a few things, I write books, but I also make professional book covers for other authors, I also create adult coloring books and I have a gambling app that I designed on the apple store :) I’ve always got a project going, be it writing or creating, that is who I am and I love it :)
My ultimate aim is to give back, paying it forward, to constantly better myself and give the audience amazing stories. Let me scare you…
If you haven’t, you’re probably the exception and not the rule.
Knowing that arachnids, one of my favorite insects, kill and eat many of the little critters I despise, flies and mosquitoes to name a few, I was delighted when I learned horror master Ellie Douglas had written Crawlies, a short story in which spiders finally exact gory retribution on cruel and unthinking humans.
Megan and Tony have killed more than a few spiders in their time. But, one spider takes exception to the slaughter of his family members and plots his revenge. Written in the first person, and from the point of view of the vengeful arachnid, Crawlies takes you deep inside the mind of a laser-focused insect, intent on exacting his horrifying pound of flesh.
Douglas spins a powerful, frightening, and captivating tale, enveloping you in its web of horror from beginning to shocking and dramatic end.
Tightly written and polished beyond reproach, Crawlies is a must-read for horror fans.
A brilliant short read from a totally unexpected POV! This is definitely one for lovers of horror vignettes. Oh if only the Twilight Zone or Night Stalker were still running. This would surely be the a viewers favourite! One will never look at spiders in the same way ever again. And you thought that were always given a bad name because of their eight legs and eyes, venom dripping fangs and deadly reputation. Well, think again! You’ll never sleep again! Five 🕷🕷🕷🕷🕷 crawly stars for this terror read!
Crawlies by Ellie Douglas tells the tale of an eight-legged critter so fed up with seeing its brothers murdered that it finally declares war on the ungrateful humans with whom it shares a house. Its first attack is a test run of sorts, but the action quickly escalates as its confidence and anger grows.
I have never been particularly fond of spiders, so I was thrilled to see that the story was written from the spider's perspective. I figured it would make the little fella less creepy, and I looked forward to seeing how everything I know and loathe about arachnids might get flipped on its head. I should have known better. Ellie Douglas knows how to do horror right, so it doesn't take long for the spider to go from almost likeable to scary AF. No spoilers here, but the final scene is the stuff nightmares are made of. You can bet I'll be sleeping with a big can of Raid from now on.
Five stars for Crawlies, and a big case of the heebie-jeebies for me.
If you’re not afraid of spiders, maybe you should be!
I have read several Ellie Douglas books and follow her work closely. And it’s not by chance that I call her the “Horror Queen”. Once again, she excels and presents us with an amazing story. The two “poems” at the beginning of the book already give the sinister tone that we’ll find throughout the story. “Crawlies” was written in first person, which always brings the reader closer to the action. But what makes the book even more frightening is who is the narrator. The way it describes the scenes is exceptional. I’m not usually afraid of spiders, but the spider in this book is extraordinarily cruel and scary. Even if you suffer from arachnophobia, “Crawlies” is a must-read for any horror fan. And maybe Douglas will be inspired to gift us with a sequel!
Wow, where on earth do I start. This book was the creepiest short story I’ve ever read. I had goosebumps all over, and that never happens. When I went to bed, I couldn’t sleep. I was so scared that I ended up searching my whole room, for spiders. I don’t think I’ll ever get to sleep properly again. Thanks Ellie Douglas, you’ve really outdone yourself. This short story should come with a warning, a warning that it will forever change how you view a spider. What a unique way to have told a story, from the POV of a spider. It thoroughly creeped me out. I’ll look forward to your next book, although I'm not sure my heart can take any more of your terrifying works. Well deserved 5 stars.
This was a short story that is from the spider's perspective. I've never read anything like this before and it was very interesting. It also scared me. This makes you think about what spiders and other bugs might be thinking about us. It literary scared me, but I could not stop reading. It was funny at first, the jokes the spider was playing, but turned very serious. Quickly.
Ellie Douglas proves again why she is the queen of the macabre! Just in time for Halloween she treats us to a tale of eight legged terror as the arachnid menace unleashes a web of vengeance against human kind. Highly recommended!
One little spider does her best to end mankind’s tyranny against arachnids. A well told tale that is stirring, funny and, at times, a little bit gross. Go on spiders, you deserve to live!
I love spiders and love this author's take on them. People are always stomping and spraying them but in this book the shoe is on the other foot. Go spiders. Fun read!
