Murder in Manhattan

Rate this book
1891: Jack the Ripper’s murderous spree is over in London. But has it restarted in New York City? . . . A trail of murdered prostitutes leave a new breed of detective and forensic investigator in a race to find the ruthless killer, all against a backdrop of gangster violence.

★★★★★ “A compelling read with two fabulous lead investigators” — A Fantastical Librarian

A prostitute is found brutally murdered – her body slashed and some of her organs removed.

Immediately fear starts to spread. The victim bears the same hallmarks as Jack the Ripper's recent killing spree in England.

Finley Jameson , one of the original English Ripper pathologists, is put on the case and teamed up with Joseph Argenti , one of the new 'untouchable' detectives, hand-picked by a New York Mayor eager to fight corruption.

Argenti finds himself in the toughest challenge of his career—while at the same time facing life and death battles with some of New York’s most ruthless gangsters.

With the body count rising and Jameson and Argenti being openly taunted by letters claiming to be written by the killer it seems the ‘Ripper’ rumours could be true.

Has he crossed the Atlantic to find fresh killing grounds? Are his taunting letters proof that the cases are linked?

Or could this be a deranged copycat killer?

Murder in Manhattan is the first crime thriller in the Jameson & Argenti Victorian mystery hard-boiled urban investigations into serial killers that are packed full of suspense.

First off, let me say, this was a good story. It really was.
But I have just a couple of gripes.
One of them was that words were missing. All the way thru. Words like and, of, it, just a lot of simple connector words and nouns, verbs. Needs an editor or at least a better one.
Secondly, there were quite a few words that had no meaning. I'd look them up but there was NO dictionary entry for said words.
Thirdly, I felt that the beginning was unclear. I couldn't determine how Finley was in London on the Ripper Case, and then suddenly was in New York to assist on THEIR Ripper Case. It just wasn't explained very well.
Now. Aside from these minor irritations, the book as a whole was actually a good story. Good plot. Good mystery. Good bad guys. And a decent ending. Not great. But decent. Overall, I give this story 4 solid stars. I will read the next in the series.

Has Jack the Ripper come to NY? An English forensic specialist and NY detective are on the case! This was an interesting book with a new twist in the most infamous unsolved murder mystery to date. It has viable suspects and plenty of drama and twists. I liked how the two different men from two different backgrounds learn to work cohesively. Especially with different thoughts and points of view. I highly recommend this book!

I was lucky enough to receive an advance copy of this book. The story is a unique twist about Jack the Ripper coming to New York. The lead characters in this story are an American detective and and English forensic examiner that have been hunting for The Ripper. The setting for this story is in downtown Manhattan. I was drawn into this story for many reasons. One is that I lived my childhood years in this area and I knew exactly where the characters were so I felt like I was in the story in my minds eye. This author had great attention to detail. Second it was such a different take on one of the worst killers in history and to have him come to America and two countries have to team up to try and catch him. The author also wove fact and fiction flawlessly. This was the first time I have read anything by this author but it will not be the last. I am looking forward to the next book in this series. I highly recommend reading this book.
