The Hero:Samuel - he is a dragon shifter who recently retired from the military. He and his friends just moved to Vermont to open a security company. He is single and has yet to find his destined mate. Though shifters are known in the world, Sam knows that some people have issues with dragon shifters.
The heroine:Gretta - she just broke up with her boyfriend Bill, who has been using her, taking her for granted, treating her badly and cheating on her. Though she is in a tough situation since she is a doctor who works for Bill’s father and wants a new job researching a cure for MS, which her sister has. Bill doesn’t want to break up and won’t move his stuff out of her apartment.
The Story: Gretta’s best friend Justin is a panther shifter, he is a male nurse and just happens to live next door to the house Sam just moved into. Justin asks Sam for help with Gretta’s ex boyfriend who can’t seem to take no for an answer. When Sam meets Gretta for the first time he immediately knows she is his mate, and readily agrees to pretend to be her new man in order to get Bill to leave her alone without jeopardizing her job.
The story is good and I like a fake dating story and I love dragon shifters. I liked the fact that Gretta didn’t know Samual was a shifter, though she knows shifters exist and has a bestie that is a shifter. I also liked the reason for fake dating, it made sense that Sam is in security and is helping Gretta like that and also so many fake dating stories are due to going to a wedding of some event, I liked the fact that these two are faking it to get rid of an ex. I also loved seeing Bill get what was coming to him.
This book is told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Kelley Huston and Jack Calihan. They both do a good job, though I am not overly fond of either of their voices. Kelley Huston’s voice sounds a bit nasal and Jack Calihan has a very gravelly voice, sounding almost hoarse. Though I have heard much worse. These two didn’t make me want to stop listening like some.
Shifters are a known entity to the public in this series. It’s rather refreshing that they don’t have to hide. Samuel is a fire dragon that has settled in a small town with 8 other dragons to protect the humans in the area. There are some nefarious goings on with the mages and his crew needs to figure it out before humans get hurt. In the meantime, they have opened a “Rent a Dragon” and provide all types of services to the community. Samuel’s first client turns out to be his fated mate. His brothers are happy for him, but he’s not sure he wants a mate.
The book started out so promising. I really liked the MFC, Gretta. Until about 70% in. Then she turned TSTL on us.
I did like the book up until that point. Looks like her sister’s story is up next. Let’s hope she’s not an idiot like Gretta.
Insta love. No story line to speak of and characters had zero depth or relatability. Wishy washy, boring and predictable. Don’t forget the token, stereotypical gay 🙄 no thanks
So let me expand on the overdone part. You have Gretta who at times seems completely oblivious to her surroundings. Then you have Sam who is a dragon shifter, who at times just seems incredibly whiny. First off you know in the first 10 pages they are destined mates, but for some reason Sam doesn't know how to tell her. He is hired to be her fake boyfriend/fiance to get rid of the dreaded Bill. Let me tell you after the first 15% of the book you don't even hear Bills name again. Of course here comes the subplot with lots of holes and of course Sam has friends who are also dragons. No way no one saw this coming! The romance was lacking especially since Sam seemed so lost the whole time and the plot was borderline ridiculous. O and of course there are more books in the series because all of those dragon friends you meet will need to find their mates as well.
The FMC was whiny and TSTL ... I mean, she's a doctor, supposedly intelligent, and she makes a chain of such stupid decisions I nearly DNF'd. And I didn't get any connection between these two. What does he like about her? Her utterly self-absorbed nature? Her shrill bitchiness? Her constant leap to conclusions that are nonsense? Her complete unwillingness to listen to what anyone else has to say, and insistence that she knows best?
It Grabbed My attention and focus so strong I could not put it down. A word of advice when you get your copy. Grab a snack, a comfy seat, kick back and relax. You will not be moving until you finish this bad boy here. Remarkable job. Thanks for sharing.
It really pulled me in at the beginning and the characters were easy to connect with. It felt a little long at times and could have had a few more sweet moments.
What a horrible woman. I mean the heroine had no backbone. None whatsoever!
She obviously, also didn't have a mouth to tell her bastard ex-boyfriend to get lost and take his stuff with him. He cheated on her and she let him persuade her to let his stuff at her house, because his new flame didn't have the room for it!?
At that point, I still had the hope that the story would improve. I mean, the heroine is a doctor - she should have a brain - but no she was either whiny, grumpy or sensitive.
I skimmed over parts of the book to see if it would improve and if I should keep reading. I sometimes do that, when I have trouble connecting with the story or with the MC's. In this case it didn't help one bit. I couldn't find anything redeeming while skimming, that would make me go back to read the complete book. I skimmed some more and finally gave up.
The way women were portrayed in this book was horrible all together.
*** Never buy a book just because of it's cover and because it has the word "Dragon" in the title.
I heard the audiobook narrated by Jack Calihan and Lelley Huston, they did an overall good job, the characters were interesting, the heroine needed a bit more strength, Gretta and Sam's story was mate shifter story, she wants to get rid of her ex and he wasn't expecting the one at all. The story developed slowly, I would've enjoyed it if it was more fast-paced. Will continue with the next one.
Maybe it is just me, but I did not really like this audiobook. This mediocre listening experience reminds me that I need to be picky about choosing paranormal romances. The plot was not original and the villains were trite and predictable. The heroine had very little personality, and she was much less emotionally mature than the hero. Besides the heroine, all the other characters were fine. The two main characters dithered too much about the relationship in their thoughts.
There were a few things I did like. The bedroom scenes were very well written, and the hero was very likable. The setting in a small Vermont town was well described and lovely. Thankfully, the final showdown had some tense and exciting action scenes.
The dual narrators did a good job with the text that they were given. The male narrator, Jack Calihan, delivered a very good performance, and I would give him 4 stars. He has a rich, deep voice with really good emotion and pacing. He is pretty good at all the character voices as well. The female narrator, Kelley Huston, did her best with the boring heroine, but she made the woman sound frumpier than she had to be. She did not always enunciate enough or pace very well, so I give her performance 3 stars.

Title: The Dragon's Fake Fiancée Author: Sadie Sears Format: Audio Narrators: Kelley Huston, Jack Calihan Genre: Paranormal Romance, Shifter (Dragon), fated mates, suspense, bodyguard, fake fiancée Standalone: Yes Part of a Series: Book 1 of Dragons for Hire POV: Gretta and Samuel Steam Level: Slow burn to steamy 4/5
The Dragon's Fake Fiancée is a great start to the Dragons for Hire series. I liked the mystery aspects of this story but wasn't too fond of either main characters personalities. Gretta was either a pushover or overreacting or unfeeling. Samuel was wishy washy. The author made an attempt to explain all of these personality traits/behaviors but it got a bit annoying at times. However as the story progressed these behaviors were less noticeable as I focused on the story, the mystery of the wizards and the research position. I liked the secondary characters, especially Gretta's best friend. I liked all the different types of shifters and the different types of dragons featured. This is a great start to this series and I'm looking forward to Lilah's book next which Sadie Sears leads into in the last chapter.

This is a NON-SPOILER REVIEW. The Dragon's Fake Fiancée by Roxie Ray's the series opener for Dragons For Hire. I absolutely loved this book! Samuel and Gretta have incredible chemistry (Heavy sigh!). The cast of characters in this read are amazingly strong and clamoring to have their stories told. Roxie Ray does an excellent job of weaving a story that pulls at your heart strings and keeps you invested in the outcome of this story. Sexy shifters, wizards, prospective mates, drama, love, angst, danger and did I mention Sexy Dragon Shifters all in a Mature Readers Only read that will have you wanting the next book! There is resolution to this story, but there is also a setup for the next book! A great anytime read that leaves a long lasting feel good vibe.

The Dragons Fake Fiancee ticked every box for me in the Paranormal Romance genre. Hot alpha shifters? yep. A great plot? yes Great characters? absolutely.
The writing is sharp with a great, well planned plot that kept me on my toes and had me fully engaged from start to finish. The pace is good and quick, growing in intensity as the story develops.
Sadie Sears has created characters that are interesting and I really liked the range of different characters and how well developed they are.
The story was a pleasure to listen to and I really enjoyed the delight that was listening to this story.
Jack Calihan and Kelley Huston both delivered a strong performance that complimented the story and brought the characters to life.
Thank you Audiobook Obsession PR for providing me with a review copy of The Dragons Fake Fiancee The gifting of this audiobook did not influence this review.
Gretta needs a fake boyfriend to help get rid of her ex-boyfriend who won't accept being her ex-boyfriend since she can't be too rude as the ex-boyfriend's dad is also her boss. Enter Sam: hot security guard dragon shape-shifter. Sam instantly learns Gretta is his fated mate.
The set up wasn't my favourite, I found the ex-boyfriend to be a little silly and then he sort of disappeared from the story without a good resolution. I did like the main drama of the story which surrounded Gretta's job and Sam being a dragon. The romance portion followed a fairly standard flow. Good story but a little typical.

So heroine is a doctor who thinks she can cure her sister (despite loads of research and time without a cure up until now, sure she'll fix it right up). But she's got a dickbag boyfriend. So she needs a fake boyfriend to get rid of her real boyfriend who is so much of an asshole that it's hard to believe that anyone can be that much of a dick. But then real boyfriend immediately sees through the fake boyfriend thing, not shocking. But that's more of a side story, because real boyfriend's dad is actually a mad scientist killing people. Except the reader can see this coming at least a few chapters before it's 'big reveal', so that's not shocking at all either. There's enough here to redeem this into about 2.5 stars, and the second one might be worth reading if the sister is cured.

No plot spoilers No potential triggers There are no grammatical or editorial errors that I can recall. The characterisation isn't the strongest but it's okay, I didn't feel a real connection to the characters but I was interested and engaged enough to want to read to the end. The storyline falls a bit flat for me when the wizards were introduced (what the hell does that say about me when I can accept dragon shifters but not wizards haha) Anyhooose, it's a decent storyline for the genre and provided exactly what I wanted, a little escape from reality for a while. There are some sex scenes and I can't recall any swearing at all. I will probably purchase the next book in this series.
Gretta has two passions in life her work on her sisters debilitating disease and her sister but her romantic life is a mess and ex that won't go away with control issues she needs and out a new job could solve that but it could bring her closer to danger. And that ex well she met Sam he can help her with that but hes got a very big secret dragon shifter how dose he tell Greece what if she freaks out he cant take another rejection from a woman he cares for.
Good read with a hint of danger and romance and two people that just need to trust each other.
I was allowed to read and advance copy of this book via Booksprout and this is my honest review.
3.5 stars. Sweet but very cheesy. Lots and lots of clichés throughout. Lost track of the number of eye rolls it induced. I loved JC narration but not really a big fan of the female narrator though she isn't awful by any means. I just don't enjoy her voice. I really disliked her portrayal of the gay best friend character but the author shares the blame for that. This is the first time I have read this author. If you enjoy paranormal romance with a predictable storyline and low angst this book is for you. I don't mean that in a snarky way either, I was looking for that when I picked it. It just didn't pull me in like I had hoped.
I liked the premise of the book and enjoyed the read. I especially liked how each dragon was linked to various elements (earth, air, water, etc). I was a bit concerned initially at how much of a push over the heroine seemed to be. Thankfully, this was explained, although I hope in the future this author gives her heroines a bit more backbone. A great first effort and I'll read the next book in the series.

I really liked this story that introduces a new series about hot dragons in a small town. This story starts the series off about Sam and Gretta. It made me laugh and groan and shake my head at the both of them. But I was entertained and had to finish reading to see if they would get over their hang ups and get together. Add in a bit of danger that made the story a bit more interesting added to all the fun characters and you have a great read. I thought it was well written and caught my attention. Cannot wait to see what happens next.
This is my 1st read and review for this author and after reading this story I wanted more, fantastic descriptions I loved the characters and there are a few chuckle worthy moments. This story is about Samuel (Sam) who moves to a new town and there he finds his destined mate in Gretta but Sam is weary of love after all he was rejected over 100 years ago by a woman who he thought that was his mate, even though Gretta knows about shifters will she reject Sam because he is a dragon shifter?. Fantastic story I loved it and I highly recommend this book.
I really enjoyed the story of Sam and Gretta. Poor Gretta can't seem to get rid of her loser ex but thanks to her best friend she meets Sam. Sam never expected to find the one. Together they face a few mishaps duets both of the history they faced. Only once they are both honest and willing to face the difficulties together will they be able to thrive and face the evil that is plaguing their town. It was a great story and I can't wait to read the next story.

It took a while to get good, but then it didn't disappoint my persistence
I want to say, upfront, that you should definitely read this book. When it got good, it got really, really good, with bad guys, plots, and magic plus the relationship came through, at about the middle of the story, so when you want to drop it, please keep going. The things that almost threw me were small but bothered me. I almost stopped reading the book halfway through. The pace was steady but slow. There was a lot of exposition, but it's the first in a series so I expected that. However, when it got good, it was fast and powerful, so definitely give it a shot!
Leath, a dragon shifter, is hired to protect human Lila from a stalker. Discovering she is his fated mate makes it even more personal. Lila has MS, which causes her to have a few health crises. Leath would do anything to help her. The way he takes care of her is sweet. I love a man who can cook even better if he can make vegan cheese taste good. Lila is a headstrong and independent woman who wants more than a cure for her MS com her super hot dragon.

Interesting story. I liked how adorable and awkward Sam was. It was just so cute. And how much he wanted to live and protect Greta. I liked the story. It had depth and angles with how much she wanted to heal protect and heal her sister Lila. And getting rid of her ex who was a dick. I liked their group of dragons. Who were as close as brothers who were always there for one another. I didn’t like how dismissive Greta was of Sam when he tried to warn her. I get she is upset about Lila but she was horrible to him.
An absolutely fantastic, well written, fast pace, and well developed book two in the Dragons For Hire series! The story-line is well thought-out, grabs your attention, witty, funny, emotionally deep, engaging with danger, angst, suspense, secrets, and so much more. The characters are strong and likeable; their chemistry is off the charts. A Must Read!

This is a good story and fun to listen to. Watching Sam try to date Greya without her knowing it’s real?...very fun! They go through some ups and downs while trying to iron out the rough patches. That Zoe? She is adorable! What a great secondary character.
I listened to this on audio. The narrators did a good job. I see how this could lead I to a whole series. These dragons are exciting to watch..err listen to.
I really enjoy romances where the female plays hard to get. For me, the chase is so romantic. However, this book lost all romanticism when the happy ever after felt so disingenuous. I didn’t believe that Gretta was entering their extended life long destiny together for the right reasons. She seemed to care more about her sister. Sam even calls her out on this but she didn’t convince me. I felt cheated out of a happy ever after!
Gretta is a doctor who's hoping to get into a research program to help her sister with MS, she is dealing with a horrible ex as well. Samuel aka Sam is a dragon shifter, whos new to town. Gretta and Sam meet when her friend helps herf hire Sam to pretend to be her boyfriend. But what when happen when fate has other ideas? What will happen when danger comes? Will there be a HEA?
