A great book full of great characters! A real page turner.
It starts off with Catricha and her friend. Catricha is an outrage poet who lives in a high society where she was forced to marry Adias Halth the steward to the prince. Catricha is an easy character to like she is witty, kind, and sensible. Then one night the prince and Adias Halth are murdered by a shadow. It is kind of a fantasy and mystery all in one for a story.
Then later in the story we are introduced to Melissa and Elaine a pair of mages. They are both fun characters with great qualities and stories of their own.
There are a lot of characters I could mention, but it would give away the story. I will mention one last one Deckard Hadrian the immortal. He was interesting. He wasn't perfect but had flaws.
This was a really great book that kept me guessing until the end. The only thing I didn't like was the mages using demons. As though there were good demons and bad demons. I couldn't really get a grip on whether they were good if they were with a mage.
