Note to self: never lie on your resume. At least not about important stuff.
Can you speak Japanese? Sure.
Drive a stick shift? No problem.
Scale a mountain? Hard pass.
Now, because of the creative liberties I’d taken when I’d been offered the role my agent said would lead to an Oscar, I’m trapped in the middle of nowhere Alaska.
My only hope is a very grumpy, potential serial killer, who plucked my unconscious body out of the river just before I followed my crew over the waterfall.
Cam is a hulk of a man. Surly, angry, mysterious. I don’t know if I can trust him, but I do know, without him, I’m as good as dead.
Writer of words. Mother of Joy. Wife of Compassion. I like to write stories about real people who go through real struggles, and come out the other side stronger. I also like to write smut. Welcome to my brain. It’s a little screwed up, but always well intended.
Listened to this on Read Me Romance podcast. Liked the beginning and the build up of these characters. Good banter and one liners from heroine. And the grumpy hero was a good match for her. But the ending? It just ended. I feel like it was cut off. If it’s a teaser of a book to come, I get it, but it didn’t even seem like a Happy For Now book. You got the hero’s secret and then BOOM. Done. Hmmm... Still had some sexiness and promising parts to their story, just wish it would’ve continued
Listened on RMR podcast while I worked, and while I found the narrator excellent and the writing hot, this story was just a little to wild to work as a novella— i think it requires more explanation to really work. Still, I’ve heard great things about this author and I definitely want to try her other books!
|| “Just because it’s wet, doesn’t mean you get to touch it.” ||
LOL, there were some funny/sassy one liners in this audiobook, but this one made me snort.
Then there was this one:
|| A famous pop star once told me at a party that eating vegan will make my skin glow, and I haven’t looked back since. Well, except on cheat days. Cheat days are for In-n-Out burgers. I’m a shitty vegan. ||
Started with quite the gripping prologue, really setting the scene and drew me in, so come chapter one I was all about it.
Add in Brooklyn’s sassy mouth and Camden’s guilt-laden overt grumpiness (hiding his inner alpha-sweetspot) and I was rooting for a HEA for these two assholes. (And they are, LOL, in their own ways, both assholes. And thus completely perfect for each other.)
However just when shiz was getting real, the audiobook (abruptly) ended. And for me, there was just soooooo much of their story left unsaid, undone, and unfinished.
I’m not even sure I’d classify their ending as a HFN...because I couldn’t say with certainty either of them were 100% happy.
Footnote: I’m unsure if this novella is a prequel and thus makes perfect sense as to its stopping point.
Title: Over the Falls Author: Carmel Rhodes Format: Audio Narrator: Lacey Laurel Genre: Romance, military, forced proximity Standalone: yes Part of a Series: no POV: Camden, Brooklyn Steam Level: slow burn to steamy 3.5/5
I listened to this audiobook on the Read Me Romance podcast. I’ve never read Carmel Rhodes before. I wanted more. Maybe an epilogue. It kinda felt unfinished. Definitely a HEA (or HFN) but nothing about the media fallout of Brooklyn’s survival and the logistics of continuing the HEA. Overall Over the Falls was fun. I liked the sass but wanted more.
Favorite Quote: I don’t want to outrun you…I just like it when you catch me.
This novella that I listened to from the Read Me Romance Podcast was just not for me. I found Brooklyn to be so annoying and I didn't like Cam that much either. The story was okay but the ending was kind of abrupt. It could have been unpacked just a little further. As for the narrator, even though my thoughts on the narration is not taken into consideration when I rated this but I just wanted to put it out there, I couldn't stand her!
2.5 stars I think I probably would have enjoyed this one more if I had read it rather than listened. I've heard and disliked this narrator before, but didn't recognize the name before starting the book. And it didn't help that she read the male and female chapters, so they all just blended into one big mess in my head. But the story was pretty steamy, and has the general things I like with these quick reads.
This story was really good and the relationship developed wonderfully as an RMR audio romance. The only reason I gave 3 stars was because of the abrupt ending. It felt like it literally ended mid-conversation and I’m not even sure the couple gets an HEA, which is unusual for the stories featured on this podcast. 🤷🏻♀️
Method:audiobook Rating:3/5 stars H rating:4/5 - Camden h rating:4/5 - Brooklyn Drama:3/5 Thoughts:Loved this! Will be listening to more RMR podcast stories!
The description sucked me in, but unfortunately the RMR Podcast book did not. Again, this narrator was pretty irritating and even some of the dialog was annoying. It was WAY too over the top insta-love and just fell short of my expectations.
Former Disney princess meets soldier-turned-hermit. He has issues, feels responsible for his sister’s death. She has more recent trauma. The plot is good, writing good too. A bit over the top, but in an alpha+sweet young thing way.
I listened from the RMR Podcast. This narrator was pretty annoying, the dialog was cheesy, the characters are TSTL. the story line was ridiculous. The whole thing was WAY too over the top.
I don’t like to give spoilers on the books that I read. I believe the blurb on the back is enough for you to decide if you will read the book or not. If you choose to read, enjoy!
