You only get one chance to make a first impression… but what if your first impression is all based on a lie?
Hi, my name is Lydia and I'm the disappointment of the family. I'm a struggling retail specialist and far from the successful medical professional that my parents had in mind for me. Instead, I wear the crown for local one-night-stands, and cloak my true life behind fictional careers and travel stories of all kinds.
But while I'm out on the town for a slutty girls night with my more-successful best friend, Violet; I meet someone who falls for my latest charade. My only problem is I actually sense a twitch of feelings for this white-collar stud of a man. But I get the feeling I'm not the only one hiding behind false pretenses.
Alyssa Lynn always has a way with her words, and she never disappoints me whenever she comes out with a book. Mischief and Mistletoe was a hilarious ROM-COM book that had me in stitches.
Lydia is recently divorced and her life is not exactly roses and rainbows. She keeps jumping from guy to guy with no real direction of where life is taking here. She's at a crappy retail job along with her best friend Violet. Violet is a pretty awesome friend. She tries to get Lydia to start having a life again, you know, go out for drinks and dancing; let loose. Boy did she ever. Lydia meets a guy named Max at a bar her and violet were at for the night. She has fun and eventually she goes home for the night with him. From this night, events happened between Lydia and Max that makes her question if he's the one for her and vice versa.
I absolutely loved the friendship between Violet and Lydia. They were just a hot mess and they made me laugh internally so much. And who can forget Aurora, the betta fish. So adorable. I really recommend this book. It's a cute and funny holiday read.
No star review because I know the author. Thanks to said author for sending it to me as the result of a contest, even though it didn't get here until nearly the end of January!
Lydia has never had especially good luck with romance, her love stories usually ending as one-night stands. But all that could change when she meets Max. She feels an instant connection, and just maybe might be able to turn her love life around. But a lie soon spirals out of control, and Lydia worries that she has ruined everything she has worked for.
Mischief and Mistletoe is one of the more well-written indie/self-published/etc. books I've seen so far in regards to the actual writing style. It's more put together and edited than others I have read. Meanwhile, I'm not sure I would be BFFs with Lydia, but it was interesting getting to see a different person's life. I loved the beta fish as a side character, as well as old neighbor Trudy! Another highlight was the friendship between her and Violet. Their friendship leapt off the pages, and the dialogue was hilarious and realistic. (That scene with Lydia hiding under the desk though...) There's not a TON of Christmas here, so if you're like me and read it in February, it shouldn't be an issue.
I did feel like it was the story of a girl trying to find herself rather than just a story about two people being in love. Max barely shows up until the second half of the story. Regardless, it was a unique take on the traditional romance. Good choice if you want some festive fun, Christmas or no Christmas.
Mischief and Mistletoe is a pretty average read. It’s not bad, but I felt like the story was drawn out too much. It was kind of like reading a lengthy episode of Sex I’m the City or Friends.
It was okay, but wasn’t what I was expecting. There’s a lot of smut in here, and the main character was a little too promiscuous for my taste, but I liked her friendship with Violet. Her and Violet’s friendship reminded me of mine and my best friend’s relationship.
This is a steamy holiday rom com. I wasn’t sure at first if I was going to enjoy it but after a few chapters I really got into it. There’s a section that involved a gym, a hot guy and a treadmill that had me rolling. Honestly Lydia’s best friend is pretty awesome. Lydia’s a hot mess. She’s divorced because her ex cheated on her. She’s bouncing from one-night stand to one-night stand. It’s been a year since the divorce and she still hasn’t really unpacked her boxes, she’s just living life one day at a time. She meets Max one night when she’s out with Violet. After a night of drinking she decides to go home with him but sneaks out the next morning never planning on seeing him again but her drunk self-sabotages her get away and she makes sure that Max has her number only problem, she lied about where she works. When he contacts her, she decides to give him a chance because she really likes him but when they make a date he never shows. Her bestie Violet convinces her to move on and after a disaster Tender date she decides no more guys for a while it’s time to focus on herself but what happens when Max shows up in her life again?

I quite enjoyed this work; it gave me quite a chuckle while reading it. The main female character had her struggles and managed to overcome them by the end of the story. The plot was fantastic with many different events leading up to the end, each event had its own factor in the female character’s life whether it be good or bad. Her attempts at dating reminded me of before I got married. I found myself unable to put this work down. I found it to be different from what I have read, which was a good difference; the style of writing and storytelling was a breath of fresh air. I did have to chuckle more when the character had a betta fish due to the fact that for the past week I’ve been pet sitting my sister's fish with daily calls checking in on it; usually with me answering that we haven’t killed it yet. It makes me happy when I can connect even more with the characters.
I give this a five out of five stars. The characters were great and the plot was fantastic. I look forward to reading more by this author.

Lydia and Max meet at a local bar and have a one night stand, with her leaving before he wakes up on Thanksgiving morning. They text and set up another night, but he never shows. Stress builds as she goes on several other dates that are very bad and then they connect again. His trauma acknowledged and they are back together, even stronger. I will never think of the game Twister again the same way, or the tread mill at the local gym. Suspense comes from all directions as she see her ex, has car trouble; has arguments with not just her friend, but Max, her brother, her boss and herself. The banter and zings in this book had me laughing out loud so many times. It is a super funny, everything that will go wrong can, storyline. Would love a friend like her that has that much snark to her. I will be rereading this one again for sure.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were well developed and relatable. The story was funny, heartbreaking, snarky and heartwarming. Recommend.
Lydia is a hot mess. She has been divorced for the better part of a year and her apartment still is mostly packed boxes. She is getting a bit of a slutty reputation for all the poor choices she makes with men. She drinks too much and hates her retail job.
Max is one of her one night stands. She develops feelings for him after only one night but then he stands her up for their next date and she is devastated. They eventually get back together and do things with their clothes on and begin to have a relationship. She almost loses him when she blows up at his workplace but they talk it out (in front of her entire hardware store) and have their HEA.

Once again a book I normally don't read (that being Rom Com ) but I'm so glad I did! I utterly enjoyed myself, and really wanted to know how Lydia's life would turn out. Most of the characters were well developed and definitely relatable. A few characters which were used for development dropped off the face of the earth, but I'm not sad to see them go, even though it gets under my skin a smidge when characters just disappear.
This story had me hungry for the next page, and Lydia, and Violet are written as realistic best friends. Alyssa does a fantastic job of creating characters you love and cheer for. Well mostly, I had two small quips with this book but nothing that ruined, or took me out of my reading experience in anyway. Out of all the characters that I cared about there were two that I couldn't actually care if they were there or not. I liked it a lot, rate it a 4.5/5.
This story, characters, and world were realistic, caring, relatable, romantic, and hilarious. I was chuckling out loud a multiple times throughout this book. Which got me a few weird looks from my husband lol
Overall, worth the read, and I would give it a shot even if you don not normally read Rom- Coms. You might just find a new liking.

I have never before made myself laugh out loud while I wrote a novel. A believe I'll be doing more romcoms in the future because this was SO much fun to write. Putting Lydia in some pretty weird positions was probably my favorite hobby for a while. She was such a cry baby at times and didn't know how to handle some situations, but the people around her definitely put her in her place.
I've been asked to do another book with these characters, so we'll see what comes down the path for Lydia and Violet ;)
This story is a roller-coaster of emotions, one minute you're laughing and the other you're sad and rooting for the characters. Loved Lydia and Max, Violet and Tony, Lucas and even Aurora, Lydia's beta fish. The story is very well written and I loved it.

This is the first book I have read by Alyssa Lynn and I found it to be highly enjoyable. It is the story of Lydia, who is trying to get her life in order after a divorce a year ago, and Max, a one night stand who she wants to see again but stands her up when they arrange a date. This well written Rom-Com has amazing characters and a storyline with humor, wit, and romance.

Awesome book, really makes you want to keep reading. I love the storyline, there's funny parts in the book that make you laugh out loud. Definitely worth the read.
You will definitely like this Christmas story filled with drama, mischief, mistletoe and love!!
Alyssa Lynn Mischief and Mistletoe Christmas book is by far a fun, enjoyable, and entertaining story. It’s well written and the characters are amazingly well developed. The story just flows beautifully from start to finish. Can’t put it down. Loved it! Definitely looking at read more books by this amazing author. Alyssa Lynn has a book that rocks! A 5 star book that's sexual and funny with well-written characters has everything going for it! A Christmas favorite!
I was engaged by this story which made me feel so many emotions. I loved how the story wasn’t a cookie cutter play out. It felt unique and fresh. I enjoyed reading this story.
I requested a copy of this book so I could provide an honest review.
This was a cute little holiday read with some little fibs, misunderstandings, and very unfortunate dates for our main character Lydia. She is not happy with her current job so she lies about it to impress a guy. What could go wrong? Well, you could start falling for the guy and continue to be on edge for fear that he finds out you lied. At least Lydia's best friend Violet gives it to her straight and tries to point her down the right path. Sexy holiday fun.
It's a good story about Lydia, who's trying to rebuild her life after her divorce from a cheating husband, and counts on her best friend Violet to do that. It's full of love, friendship, funny situations, some argument, confusion and romance!
Mischief and Mistletoe was a fun, sweet, holiday read. Lydia is a young girl looking to find her footing in the world along side her best friend. The humor and the romance in the story were relatable instead of over the top, which I appreciated. If your looking for a holiday romance, I recommend.
I absolutely love this book! I am not typically a re-reader when it comes to books, however, this one will have me coming back again and again (I am already re-reading it again for the second time in 20 days). Alyssa Lynn did such a great job making these characters pop right off the page. The interactions between best friends are hilariously comical. I even woke my husband up to me laughing while reading it in the middle of the night (I couldn't put this book down!!!). The men in this book will keep you guessing and make you hate them and love them all at various intervals. I can't say enough good things about this book!

I usually don’t pick up books with holiday themes, but I’m glad I did this time. Lydia and Violet are best friends for life. Lydia has just gone through a divorce and Violet has a new boyfriend. Although she has sworn off men, Lydia meets a guy that makes her giddy and Violet cheers her on. But is he the guy for her or only another jerk? I love the relationship between these two women. They are both flawed and very realistic. Lydia isn’t always completely likable. She jumps to conclusions and flies off the handle sometimes....just like a real person. I love it. The men in their lives are equally complex, and it provides a setting for a sweet love story.
Mischief and mistletoe You don't have to be in the holiday spirit to get into this gem. It's good for any time of year. The main character, Lydia, is a drunken, slutty, HOOT! (I can relate) The banter and whit between all of the characters is knee-slap-worthy. HILARIOUS! Some of the situations Lyd finds herself in will have you biting your nails and shaking your head. Then she has Violet, which reminds me of a devil on Lyd’s shoulder disguised as an angel, feeding her nothing but bad ideas. I was reading two other books when I picked this one up, but neither of them got touched till I finished this one. Funny, witty, and well worth every minute you will spend on it.
