Following the hit-and-run death of her grandmother, Meridith Woodson discovers that her entire life has been based on a lie. Leaving everything she’s ever known behind, she sets out to unravel the truth. Her journey takes her to the Amish countryside outside Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where she infiltrates a demanding religious cult to meet its founder—her father.
The ink has barely dried on Brad Lang’s medical license when yet another odd accident lands a raven-haired tourist on his exam table. Concerned for her safety, Brad warns Meridith away from the ragtag sect on the outskirts of town, but his fears mount when she falls under the spell of the group’s charismatic leader and disappears behind the compound’s fortified walls.
With guards monitoring her every move, Meridith quickly discovers that gaining acceptance among The Prepared was the easy part. Escaping—even with Brad’s help—will require more strength and courage than she possesses.
Leigh Duncan is an Amazon best-selling author and a National Readers' Choice Award winner, the author of more than two dozen novels, novellas and short stories. However, the biggest thrill of her career--so far!--came when she saw her book, Journey Back to Christmas, featured on the Home and Family Show after Hallmark Publishing chose Journey to introduce its new line of romance novels. Her newest Hallmark Publishing release, A Simple Wedding, and her upcoming A Cottage Wedding (6/2/20) are the first of several books in Leigh's Heart's Landing series. These sweet, contemporary romances take place in a small town known as America's Top Wedding Destination, and each book centers on one couple who fall in love in Heart's Landing.
Like all of Leigh Duncan’s books, this one is a page turner. I found myself staying up late reading through the night to find out what happened next. The story of Meredith Woodson who leaves Florida to go to the Amish country searching for a father she believed dead, is full of suspense and unexpected twists. This story was even better than I expected.
Once again Leigh Duncan creates characters so real and in-depth, I felt like I had been transported into the small-town. This book has action and suspense that caused my heart to kick up, and romance. This book is different from Duncan’s other books and I loved it. If you are looking for a book that is the full package and leaves you wanting more treat yourself to this one. This was one of those books that I found myself thinking about after I had finished it.
I hope that Leigh Duncan continues to write more book like this. This one’s a winner so don’t miss out.
PATTERN OF DECEIT, BY LEIGH DUNCAN. Interesting story of a lie that I took place 28 years ago, and how it affected the lives of so many people. For Meredith, to find out from her grandmother, Nadine, that she did have a living father. Her mother died soon after her.birth, so her grandmother willing raised her. This was the same grandmother who preached openness and honesty. When asked why . She replied "I lied" . Now she has had two shocks, one that she has a living father, and a grandmother who lied. Was there anything else, that she might have lied about. Would her father want to even know her. Two stories, as she searches for answers, for herself, for her father, and maybe even love. A life now that would have challenges. Enjoyable book for all ages to enjoy and ponder. Given ARC by author for my honest opinion of which I have given.
Wow, what a story Leigh Duncan has weaved. The story and the characters both are so realistic. The author captured me right at the very start and did not let go till the end. Pattern of Deceit is one of those page turner stories where you cannot read fast enough to see what is going to happen next. Meridith’s grandmother was killed by a hit and run driver. She learns before her grandmother dies that she has been living a lie her whole life. Was the hit and run an accident? Meridith goes to an Amish countryside outside of Lancaster, Pennsylvania looking for her father and the church he is at. She has been warned by Brad , a medical Dr. to stay away from that area.He is worried about her. It maybe easy for her to get into the compound walls of the Prepared, but how easy is it to get out? Surely her father cannot be the leader of the Prepared cult compound. Can Brad find and and save Meridith after she has been missing for several days or have they got to her? Is he to late? I was given an ARC copy of this book by the author for my honest review.
Loved it!!!! This book is full of twists and turns I didn't see coming. Meridith gets the shock of her life with a devastating loss. Brad starts looking for answers when incidents start to happen. I couldn't put the book down. I was so engrossed in the story. Leigh Duncan has yet again wrote a fantastic book. I highly recommend reading this book.
Great, intense page turning story. Read in one day, because I could not put it down Jesus said "My sheep will hear My voice...". The discernment of abiding in His truth, or someone else is what I learned from this story. And that without love in action there is no truth.
This review is hard to write. I did enjoy the story but I found the characters to be one dimensional and pretty dull. And the plot was predictable. I hate to say bad things about a book but my overall experience was meh.
An action packed story of deceit, corruption, and second chances! I really enjoyed reading Meredith's journey and hoping she was going to make it through the danger she was putting herself into. Great characters grabbed my attention from the start, and it was well written ... I personally know the area the story is taking place in quite well, so some inaccuracies in the lack of medical facilities nearby jumped out at me, but to the average person, you won't notice it.
Following the hit-and-run death of her grandmother, Meredith Woodson sets out to find the father that she never knew about. She promised her Nanny on her deathbed that she would go meet him, and she's determined to do it. Along the way, she gets into an accident and winds up needing medical attention.
Dr. Brad Long can't deny he's intrigued by the woman that winds up on his examination table. Weird accidents have been happening around the area more often lately and he's not sure what to attribute them to. When Meredith starts asking questions about the religious sect outside of town, he tries to warn her away from them.
Meredith isn't gung ho to go to "The Prepared" compound, but she doesn't have any option because she can't reach her father any other way. She gets the run around and sets out to falsely join the cult in order to approach him and tell him she's his daughter. Things are not what they seem, and she realizes too late that it's not going to be an easy in and out to get back out of there now that she's in.
Will she find her father? And will Brad be able to help her get back out, or will anyone even realize that she's there?
I read this book in two days...it would have been one day but I started it really late at night so I only read for an hour on that first night. My point is that it was so good I didn't want to put it down. Once again, my responsibilities were put on hold for a book! I don't regret it at all!
I loved Meridith, I loved Brad, and I obviously loved them together. Of course, there were plenty of characters that I didn't like AT ALL, but they were necessary for the story. Guys, I just really enjoyed this book.
I think I say this kind of often, but I have never read a book like this before. Honestly! I've never ever read a book about a cult. I was super intrigued! And, I was very pleased with the ending. Too often a book with a really good beginning and middle gets ruined by a bad ending. This was not the case with Pattern of Deceit!
In case you haven't figured it out yet, I highly recommend picking this book up! I really don't think you'll be disappointed.
*Note: I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Leigh Duncan is quite new to me as an author, but what an introduction! Riveting, compelling, with twists and turns in the plot as Meredith tries to connect with the father she did not know existed for the first twenty-eight years of her life. Courage, a kind heart and love all have a role in a race against time to overcome evil in a clean, well written story that was so enjoyable. I read long past my normal bedtime and resumed reading the following morning to finish the book. No doubt I will be looking for more Leigh Duncan books!
I'm so glad that I was told about Goodreads and am very thankful for the books I have won.
This was a very good book and kept me reading and guessing along the way. Love suspense and romance books and this one was especially good. I didn't want to put it down. It kept me guessing until the end. So many lies and she was just trying to get to the truth.
Wow....this book was so different from the other Leigh Duncan books that I have read (and thoroughly enjoyed) and I loved it! It grabbed me from the very beginning and held me til the end. I am so very glad that I read it!
