I’d never be able to let her go. To live without her again would be worse than death. I’d wanted death many times over the years, but now I knew there was one thing far worse... Something taking Lyra away from me.

4 Blue stars!

Holy crap y'all. I have to admit that the main reason I signed up for this book is because it reminded me of one of my absolute favorite series for two reasons: the nickname Blue and the teacher/student relationship. However, I quickly became hooked on this story for its own merit, and I am so glad I picked it up!

I usually don't enjoy slow burn romance as much as I do insta-lust stories, but I was completely immersed in the story of Blue and Lyra, watching as it slowly unfolded. There was such a shroud of mystery that surrounded their interwoven pasts and how both characters ended up unhappily in their present lives, and as Bloom slowly unraveled more of their story, I found myself wholly transfixed and invested until the end. And even though I guessed one major twist that drove the story forward, Bloom still managed to surprise the hell out of me with the bomb she dropped right before she left us desperately waiting for part II.

I do have to note that the reason I dropped one star from the rating is because of how many "American" things the author got wrong. I understand that the author is from the UK, so she may not be familiar with US slang and geography, but if you're writing a book set in another country, you should do the proper research or at least invest in a native beta reader to help you out. There were so many UK words present that we simply don't use in the same context in the US (ie. jumper, vest, knickers, jersey). Also it was stated that Blue traveled West from NOLA to get to Boston, which is not right. Minor details in the long run, but important in the context of the story nonetheless.

Overall however, I really enjoyed this one, and I cannot wait to get my hands on book two!! ♡

My Jack "Blue" Cross, haunted by his past but still in love with his Little Lyra Bird....

Today, on an all new episode of "I'm Too Old For This Shit"!

description

I guess you'd call this book a friends-to-enemies-to-lovers romance? Personally, I'd call it an angst-gasm... so much drama it might just get you off.

description

This is the story of Lyra and her brothers childhood BFF Jack, otherwise known as "Blue". (Dumb nickname. I don't like it.) They have a borderline problematic relationship as kids and then one day Blue just disappears on her. But four years later their paths cross again when Lyra is accepted to the Berklee School of Music and it turns out that Jack is her teacher!

description

I don't wanna knock this book too hard, because it wasn't bad at all. Lyra was a very well-developed character, the drama and mystery of the whole thing was pretty top notch, and the writing kept me interested throughout the vast majority of it. I know that it would certainly appeal to New Adult romance lovers, there's no doubt. Jack and Lyra were destined for each other, so if you're crazy about uber-angst love stories, this book right here will be your jam.

Here endeth the praise.

Okay, so. Problems.

One. Jack was a douchebag. We're talking grade-A top tier asshole. I just have a really hard time with these stories. The ones where someone really sucks but then the secrets start to unravel and you're supposed to suddenly see them in this whole new light.

description

It's super hard to pull off, and I don't think it worked here. Mainly because the "secrets" were so friggin dramatic, OMG. Everything was the god damned end of the world. Like, y'all. Communication. Works wonders.

Two. The twist at the very end was completely ridiculous and pretty much halts the whole story. So either its gonna turn out to not be true or book two is gonna be awkward as fuck.

description

Three, and I'm doubling up here. Unexpected cliffhanger. Not a fan of that. This book was long enough, I'm not really interested in another installment. Also, I was really hoping for some steam and I didn't really get it. This is definitely "romance novel sex" where there is kissing and heavy petting then suddenly we're at the afterglow.

description

I'd almost give this four stars except that end bit sealed it... I really don't see how this is all gonna work out and I didn't love it enough to care too much. But I'm sure the right audience will really enjoy this book. Don't let my lazy, gif-filled review dissuade you if this sounds like something you're into. It just wasn't really for me.

OH MY GODDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!

What have I just read?!

Anna has knocked it out of the park with this one. From their past to their present it was entrenched in intrigue and secrets and mystery all teetering on the edge of wrong and taboo.

Now, if only I can see into their future after that bombshell of an ending!!!!

Amazing story, wonderful character building and such an a-hole anti-hero in Jack!!

Blue, Green, bring on the damn rainbow!!

I always love reading books by this author as I love her style of writing. Once that I started reading this book I couldn't put it down and its one hell of a read that I recommend to everyone. This is a real friends to lovers romance that is awesome.

Lyra and Blue ( Jack ), this is there story and one that you must read and go on this ride with them. She has had feelings for him for along time and its hard on her completely after everything.
The way that this author has written these characters is fantastic and will have you rooting for them. Lyra and Jack's story is filled with so much emotion and this story takes you to the past and then the present so the reader can fully invest in the history and there story. When they see each other again after years its intense. Lyra has a scholarship at a college where Blue now is and when they see each other he's shocked because she was who he was trying to forget. They have sizzling chemistry between them that is still there and all the old feelings come right back up. This book has it all it has all the secret, lies, twists and turns that the reader will not see coming and the reader will feel it all. This author has written this story fantastically and it flows throughout. It will keep you guessing until the end and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough and after reading that ending, WOW!!! I need book #2 now please especially after that cliffhanger. Lol!

“Then she opened hers and snapped her gaze onto my face.

And I knew we were ruined.

Surviving this car crash we’d strapped ourselves into was no longer a viable option.”

Lyra & Jack have been friends since childhood he is her older brother Luca’s best friend, she has always felt something more for him, than friendship. Jack comes from a broken home, and Lyra is the only light in what is otherwise a dark place.

Four years later after Jack left, Lyra is off to university on a scholarship to play the violin, when she unexpectedly runs into him, it turns out he is her daily contact. Full disclosure I loved younger Jack, he gave me all the feels, older Jack is a complete asshole. It took me till about 70% to soften towards him, I personally found him too cold & cruel at times. Some of his decisions were selfish, but then I suppose you have to make some decisions to survive like he did.

I loved Lyra, she was kind & strong but when it came to Jack she wore her heart on her sleeve for him, she didn’t understand his hatred towards her, or why he left suddenly.

Now that cliffhanger was harsh Anna Bloom!!! And we have to wait till January to find out the truth?!? Despite my earlier feelings about Jack, I hope him & Lyra get their HEA after every thing they have been through. Do I think it will be easy? No..but then all great love stories are worth fighting for.

Blue is most definitely the colour of a gorgeous love story

Whenever you read an Anna Bloom book, you know your heart is going to ache and every single one of your emotions will be pushed to the limit. The Other Side of Blue is no exception. It has the beautifully haunting prose that has Anna’s signature all over it and flawed characters who push their way into your heart, determined to never leave.
Lyra and Blue’s chemistry is palpable, but the slow burn of their relationship manages to build up to a crescendo of sheer joy. One that almost had me singing ‘hallelujah’. Their exchanges were hot, sexy and edgy, and if nothing else proved they were meant to be together.
Lyra’s character was idealistic but spirited and was the perfect foil for the broken and bitter Blue. Each time they were on the page together I felt my heart breaking a little more for them. Ironically, as mine broke it was clear that Blue’s was slowly mending and that was one of the things I loved about this book. Anna’s care and attention were with her characters, they were the ones who needed to heal, not the reader. We had to deal with however they got there because nothing about this book was generic or expected the path followed was the one right for them. Anna also touched on some quite controversial issues that are relevant in the current climate. While she did this with sensitivity, she didn’t labour the point. She still gave us the message loud and clear in a way that only someone who has truly crafted their art could do.
I loved Blue and Jack, understanding each piece of his personality and why he was no longer the boy next door. Even when he was being Jack, Anna gave us tiny glimpses of goodness. Teasing us that if we were patient enough to scratch the surface inch by inch, Blue would be revealed. When he was a totally sexy, sweet, caring, intensely brooding hero is gifted to us.
As for the cliffhanger at the end, well it was one hell of a plot twist, yet it didn’t feel out of place or like it had been added for effect. It was the perfect end to part one.
In short, I would definitely recommend The Other Side of Blue and urge you to prepare for a love story that will make your heart ache.

I have been waiting to read this book since I first heard it was coming out. I am a sucker for brother's best friend books. The anticipation killed me. This book..... it's hard to put into words.

I absolutely loved it and hated it (and that would be the good kind of hate). Hated it because I want more!! Hated it because grumpy Jack was mean and horrible. Hated it because I hate what Jack has been through, and I GREATLY dislike Miriam. But I loved, LOVED Lyra. Little Lyra bird, little miss green. I can understand her so well. She was hurt and broken. She was confused and lost. I just love her and I love the Blue she brings out. I love the man who Jack has become for her. I love the truth he discovers in himself.

What I really don't like is how Luca treats her and I don't care for Alex. I don't care for the Collins in general.

This book does not end on a cliffhanger but it does leave you hanging. I will be sitting here patiently... sigh lol... waiting for this next book. I have a feeling we will be seeing Jack finally fight for what he wants, what he deserves. I will be waiting for Jack and Lyra's HEA because they deserve it. I will be waiting to see what happens with Luca because right now I don't like him nor trust me. I will be waiting for the Collins to get what they deserve. I will be waiting with baited breath for my heart to settle and this second book to come out. But please don't wait for that second book to meet Lyra and Jack. You may not like him or Lyra at first. But you will love them before this first book is over. I do.

It only took a minute before I was absolutely hooked on Blue & Green. Holy moly, the combo of these two was so much like fire and ice, a good chill and an even better burn.
Morally corrupt families, deceit & treachery pave the way for a love so strong, it’s literally flickered for years before finally igniting.
That curveball really threw me, and I don’t know how to feel about it. All I want is for things to finally find a harmony for this couple.

I have a new favourite colour and surprise surprise …. it’s blue! I started reading The Other Side of Blue late last night and I had to force myself to put my kindle down at 5am. If I could have forgone sleep I definitely would have. This book is unputdownable, and I am certain once you start Lyra and Jack’s story that you’ll feel the same way too.

This book contains everything I love. Two incredible main characters who I instantly connected with; secondary characters that added to the story perfectly; a storyline that was thought-provoking and which also brought out all the feels. Plus, I must not forget to mention those twists and turns that had my mind constantly considering where this story was leading, to be then left absolutely delighted when proven wrong.

Anna Bloom tells us Lyra and Jack’s story beautifully. Taking us, during certain scenes, from the present to past times to give us greater understanding of this couple’s history, as well as allowing both characters to voice their own thoughts and feelings via dual POVs. Their interactions were perfect for the story and my enjoyment was enhanced because of them. The author kept me not only intrigued, but desperate to learn Blue’s secrets - teasing me throughout which once again was something I absolutely loved.

Ms Bloom is one of a few authors of whom I can say I have read every piece of work that they have published. She never disappoints. Her stories are emotional. I can’t help but adore her characters and she always gives us the most incredible leading men who I uncontrollably hand over my heart to!

I highly recommend for you to read The Other Side of Blue. And that ending…. let me just say is it January ’21 yet?

If you love books filled with angst this one is for you! Lyra has been in love with her brother’s best friend for her whole life, but there is a 6 year age gap and his friendship with her brother that prevents them from having a relationship while they were neighbors. Blue or Jack ends up disappearing and Lyra feels lost navigating life without him. She decides to attend Berkley on a scholarship for violin where she meets her teacher aide...long lost Jack. I won't give away any spoilers from that point, because this book does have a couple of different twists. The final twist is a significant blow and leaves the book in a cliffhanger. Lyra and Jack have so much tension and heavy emotions between them along with secrets, yet both have an undeniable connection that is too strong to be severed. Lyra is patient and cares deeply for her family. Jack is passionate and protective over Lyra. Both have had to face difficult crossroads and always find their paths intertwined. I'm intrigued to see how the next book plays out and can't wait for February to read it!

This has been such a very good read! It is well written, balances past and present well without overloading the past at all, has great characters, and a plot into which I sank completely! The cast of characters is broad without losing any focus on the main pair. The unfolding of secrets, misconceptions and the deep love between Lyra and Jack is developed beautifully...and the cliffhanger! OMG! I did not see that coming!!!

* Brothers Best Friend
* College romance
* Age difference
* Forbidden romance

I want book 2 now 'stamps feet'. I'm loving Lyra and Blues story.

I'm used to this authors stories being based in the UK, so was surprised to find this is set in the USA. There are many tropes mingled into this story, but they're done effortlessly.

I haven't read a college based romance for a while, this book has rekindled my interest in them. I was totally caught up in the story and loving the simmering attraction between Lyra and Blue. Lyra really caught me up in her world, we have nothing in common but I felt attached to her. Blue what a delicious, slightly broken man he is, his caught up in a spiders web. Im hoping Lyra has the courage to fight through the web and free him so they can be together.

This authors writing always pull me in, but watch out as it's not a standalone so there's a cliffy - but I'm not worried!

5 loved it stars

The Other Side of Blue has everything secrets, lies, lust and love with great characters and an ending I definitely didn't see coming. I cannot wait to read the conclusion of Lyra and Jacks story.

Phenomenal!

Its no secret that I am a huge fan of Anna's work but this one honestly is her best writing yet. Once i started I was hooked and on the edge of my seat wondering how this would play out and Anna never once disappointed me.

This one is brilliantly written with brilliant twists and turns. There are so many secrets and the balancing on the lines of taboo makes this one read that you wont want to miss.

Lyra has loved one person all her life, the boy nextdoor Blue, one person she probably shouldn't. They had a connection that was strong an deep until one day he just disappears without a goodbye, or an explanation. She feels like she has been left in limbo until she finally decides to try to move on with her life, well to go through the motions to make other people happy. She just never expected to come to face to face with Blue again, for him to pretend he didn't know her.

This book has so much going on with Lyra and Blue. I probably shouldn't like Blue, aka Jack, but the more he opens up the more i can't help but root for him, for them to finally get their chance.

No comes the bad side in the fact that I want the next book The Other Side of Green NOW!!! so Anna had better get writing :-)

Can I just say an ending like that, reminds me how much of an impatient person I am, well, that's an understatement because *stomps foot, I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT... NOW!

The other side of blue is a childhood to adult love story at the core, leading to twists and turns, ups and downs, emotional highs, and lows entwined around Lyra and Jack aka Blue's journey.

Lyra and Jack's story is a slowburn romance with an unexpected reunion leading to a crescendo that will have your heart thumping and your pulse racing.

I liked the characters but I don't think I've seen them at their best yet, where they completely claim my heart but I'm excited to see if they do.

I love a story that takes you on a journey with the characters and Anna Bloom did that with Lyra and Jack's tragic but heartwarming story and it's not over yet. I don't normally give 5 stars when I don't even know the ending, but I have a feeling in my gut that if I gave it any less I'de only be coming back to change it after the second book.

I'm looking forward to seeing how it all unfolds and I'm sure I will be celebrating with them when they finally get their hea.

Told in first person dual pov and leads to a cliffhanger.

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! This book gives you Goosebumps from the start, its a love story with a twist, I can usually see what's coming next, but I didn't see that coming, brilliant writing, it pulls you in immediately and leaves you wanting more.

The chemistry between Jack and Lyra is explosive, you see the new Jack and sometimes Blue, even when he is in charge he still has a certain vulnerability, the old blue is there hidden but coming out more as the story reveals. Lyra is sweet and naïve, but knows what she wants, who she wants, whether its Jack or Blue that is the question, but one thing she desperately wants is answers!

The main characters are superb, but there are a few secondary characters add perfectly to the story giving you an insight of the life on campus and into the lives of the Collins family.

The telling of the story through duel POV's give you the full story from both sides, the lies, the secrets, the love, Anna Bloom has nailed it yet again, you fall in love with the characters, the story and then left wanting more.

I highly recommend the other side of blue, be prepared for your mind to be blown.

Blue may have been her brother’s best friend, but he was also the man who starred in her teenage fantasies and stole her heart. She accepted that he would never see her as more than his best friend’s little sister, but she didn’t think that he would leave with no explanation or further contact leaving her with so many questions and no answers.

Four years later fate throws them together once again however he is not the boy she remembers. He is now distant, closed off and he has an impact on her education. The connection and chemistry between them is stronger than ever but is it strong enough to overcome the past?

The angst and emotion of their journey draws you in, but it is the surprises that are unfolded one at a time that leave you wondering what the future holds for this couple.

Did not realize how much this book would draw me in and not let me go. Jack and Lyra have taken over my mind and pulled at all my heart strings. I need the rest of their story right now, I did not realize I'd be stuck on a cliff hanger when some very important info was dropped at the end. That twist though!!

This story is so beautiful and forbidden and I can't recommend it more. The change Lyra and Jack go though in the four years they are separated is so heart breaking. And even though that time changes them they are still so helpless to resist the other. Like magnets to each other tethered forever.

I really like the supporting people in this book. They all brought something different to the table and some of them really surprised me with their actions. I'm still kind of reeling from this book so can't think more on what to write in this review, but if you have a chance to read it you should take it. I can't wait for the second book, I hope it gets released soon.

Nope.

It’s not allowed to end like that.
Nope.
I refuse to accept it.

So Lyra was in love with her brothers best friend. The boy next door. Most night she play her violin for him, hoping he would see her more than his best friends little sister. But life happens, Jack disappears and Lyra is broken, heart broken that he never said goodbye.

Fast forward to 4 years later, she gets in to college on a scholarship, she is moving on finally from jack.
Until he walks in to the office she is in. Jack is different. He isn’t the blue she knew. He is harder around the edges.

Obviously their past couldn’t keep them apart so now they refuse to lose anymore time together. It’s never going to be that simple though, secrets start to come out and threaten to ruin their happy ever after.

God. Lyra, I felt for her, she tried so hard to move on but her heart wouldn’t truly let her! I mean jack though or Blue as she likes to call him, I would have a hard time getting over him too!
Jack, I wanted to hate him for leaving, I wanted Lyra to get over him, but when you get into it, jack isn’t really the bad guy, he just got dealt with a bad hand at life, he tries his best to do what he can, but his past always seems to come back to him.
I can’t wait for the other side of green to release! I need it now

This story was a roller coaster of emotions! We meet Jack or Blue as he's called by Lyra, and of course Lyra. There is a lot of mystery with Jack and a lot of back and forth feelings I felt for him. Lyra was a great female character and I really loved her personality. She was a bit reserved and shy but when forced to, she came out clawing. The story like I said had ups and downs, twists and turns. My feelings ran hot and cold lol. It was just a great page turner and left me begging for more.

Unexpected in the end but brilliant all the way through! Debra @Janise’s Jivin’ Book Blog

This story kept me guessing from the beginning as to what was going on, what was going to happen and truly would the couple get their happy ending!

Our story is wrought with so much emotion and times you are not sure if you want to hug the characters or have them go for some quiet time!

It is a great read that you will not be forgetting anytime soon. The ending will surprise you.

I love Blue and Lyra! They are a couple that against the odds come back together after some time apart. Both of them have changed although not the feelings they had for each other. What got me the most were the characters around them and how they play a key role in what happens with our couple.

Anna Bloom is an author that likes to take you to the edge and make you wonder if she will pull you back!

Deeply emotional and heart breaking, the Other Side Of Blue starts out a little slow, but builds such a solid foundation - needed for the gut wrenching story to come.

It's a beautifully written story of heartbreak and love, secrets and goodbyes, new starts and heart shattering revelations.
With two broken and flawed souls for main characters and a palpable connection between them your heart is going to ache as their story unfolds.

This is my first time reading Anna Bloom and her writing has me completely gripped, with so much care and attention for her characters and haunting prose, this tale is expertly crafted and I can't wait for The Other Side Of Green.

My mind is totally blown! What a book! Anna Bloom’s talented way with words had me wholly consumed with Lyra and Jack’s (Blue’s ) story.

A brother best friend romance, this is so so much more. The intriguing way in which Jack departed Lyra’s life and the brilliant way the story seamlessly flowed between past and present had me eating up all the words and mirroring the characters feelings.

Meeting again, Lyra blossoms and breathes new purpose into Jack. But secrets wrap around these two like a noose and the unravelling leads to such a epic, eye-popping twist, it had me gasping out loud and itching to get the next book.
