Liam Robertson learns two things on the same day. One, his company wants him to accept a project assignment that will take him away from home for an extended period of time. His only options are to accept the assignment, or find a new job. The second shocking thing he learns that day is that his married life has come to an end. The two women in his life - Sara, his wife, and Abby, his daughter - have taken his marriage and burned it to ash.
Liam will not take this lying down. He is determined to show his wife and daughter that their betrayal, their actions, have consequences.

This is the third book I have read from this author and I like his work. The situations are not realistic, they are over the top and for the most part focus on the betrayed husband and him standing up for himself. In the 3 books I have read there is no subtle "we both made some mistakes" vibes. There is one party (the wife) who did something horrendous to the husband (not only cheating but humiliating, cuckolding and absolutely disrespecting him). There is no way anyone reading this book could read what the wife did and try to take her side. So the husband either takes revenge or walks away and works on himself. As in the last book I read from this author, I think of this as more of a thought experiment than a story. What the mother and daughter did to the MC was horrible. I don't know if I could adequately explain my thoughts on their actions. Have you ever heard the phrase "actions speak louder than words?" Well that is what I think is happening in the first part of the story. The wife and daughter are acting a certain way but instead of hiding what they are doing they say it out loud. When a woman has an affair she might still love her husband but she might feel that she needs this affair. She might think that she deserves it. That this is her body and she can do whatever she wants with it. Her husband doesn't own her. That might be what she feels inside to justify her actions but nobody would ever say those things out loud. Not if they really loved their husband. In this story the wife did say those things out loud, but in her mind she was thinking she still loved her husband. It is usually the other way around. Wives would say they love thier husband while thinking about their affair partner.
Because I thought of this book as a thought experiment, that is what I did while reading. I had a lot of thoughts. The first thought was about toxic feminism. I want to make clear that there is a difference between feminism and toxic/modern feminism. Feminism started as a way to uplift women who were not being given equal/valid consideration. Women were not looking for a handout. They just wanted the opportunity to show the world what they could do. They wanted to live up to their potential. Modern feminism/toxic feminism goes a little too far. It doesn't seem to be about women building each other up anymore. There is a part of it that wants to tear men down. There is a part early in the book where the daughter was talking to the father about her mother's affair saying that it is something she needed to do. He didn't own her. She needed to be able to be free to make her own decisions. He replied - So she has the right to make whatever decision that works best for her in the marriage and I just have to put up with that and I don't have the same right? The daughter responded that no he didn't have the same right. This of course is an over the top example but there does seem to be a pervasive movement especially in social media about women having the right to do anything they want without being shamed but men don't get that same right.
The story also touches on consequences for your actions. I know, weird with the title and all. I think though that when someone does something terrible they need to have consequences for their actions. When someone breaks the law they go to jail. When someone cheats there has to be some consequences for those actions in order for the possibility of reconciliation. Feeling bad about what you did isn't enough IMO. There has to be some tangible consequence to their actions.
So I spent that whole time explaining my thoughts on the story without writing about what actually happened in the story. I am pretty sure you can get that from the title and the context. Wife cheats on husband openly and expects him to do nothing about it. He stands up for himself and makes sure she suffers the consequences of her actions. Overall these books are very interesting, they would tear my heart out if they were more realistic so I guess it is good they aren't. I will continue reading this author's work.
Another weird story from this author. Not erotica at all. A freaked out wife and daughter combined to cuckold the husband. But oh the wrath of a wronged man. Extreme revenge and unbridled wrath they do suffer. I’ll leave it there but there’s more to the story.
I thought I was getting book that might have a realistic approach to relationships. It couldn’t have been further from that. The scenarios and details where laughable. No daughter or wife would behave that way, and no husband would have those kind of reactions with out demanding some kind of counseling. No judge would rule with out it. An I swear I read this same story on literotica. Utter garbage. A thoughtful approach to a hot wife relationship would have being more realistic.
It started adhering strongly to the tittle, till the consequences of the actions taken by Liam aren't necessary for the book. Don't get me wrong I like a good, happy resolution for the MC as much as the next guy, but if the theme of the read is about the consequences of actions taken, then some of those that Liam made should have had a really different outcome. It was enjoyable in its own way still.
Very, very well written story of betrayal and redemption. If the author continues to write to this level of excellence, he has a great career ahead of him. Believable characters and tight writing.
Not sure what to think of this one... The story line has vast swinging in different directions that are hard to comprehend. Going from a scorched earth approach to kind forgiveness without deeper character development of Liam while he was working overseas makes this tough to understand.
I was surprised at the ending but I am glad things worked out! I just wished it was a longer story. Maybe more development of the dangers they went through overseas. And what happens to Pete? Still a fun read! Sandra Mabry
Enjoyable read with a strong storyline. First read in a while that I couldn't put down. Betrayal, redemption, and a surprise ending. well written......
A superbly constructed story. A surprising outcome/conclusion and one I had some difficulty with. However, if I allow the dove in me a little influence, rather than the hawk I stay with my 5-star rating. I read this book twice, i found it such an entertaining read. Thank you, Mr. Mathison. Yes! I've just finished reading it a third time! That's one of the few benefits of age - a wonky memory disc. Please give us all more of your magic, Mr. Mathison.
