The Bell Witch has returned. But this time, they’re ready…
The cursed families of Black River are about to make their final stand. On one side are the survivors of the ancient curse, a nightmare that has plagued their bloodlines for centuries. And standing against them is the sinister and twisted Bell Witch, an evil spirit who lives on in a new host…
Powered by the souls of her victims, the witch’s malignance infests the woods surrounding Black River. If the survivors are to have any chance of stopping her, they must infiltrate the darkest depths of the forest, and destroy her blasphemous collection of souls, before it’s too late…
But as the survivors search the gnarled trees and misty woods, they quickly learn that their enemy has been expecting them. A legion of monsters and demons awaits, hungry for blood. And they are led by the Bell Witch herself.
Now is the chance they have been waiting for… the chance to finally banish the evil witch and end her curse once and for all.
If they fail, they’ll pay with their own blood.
And a dark power greater than anything they have ever faced will be unleashed…
Other reviewers have commented that this series needs to be read in chronological order and I have to agree. It is such a complex story with so many interconnected plotlines that a reader would be hopelessly lost if he or she read these books out of order. That said, I highly recommend this series. It has all the element that make horror great - creatures of legend, unforgettable characters (I am still totally Team Basheba) and enough edge-of-your-seat thrills to satisfy the most jaded reader. This volume wraps up much of the saga that is developed in the first five books. There is an epilogue, so it looks like the end of the series is upon us, but there is also just enough doubt to give us hope that maybe, just maybe, a sequel might be in the works. I hope so.
I would highly reccomend the whole series! It was a thrill ride from start to finish. The characters are so well written that you cant help but form an attachment. The stories are kinda creepy, but not really scary. I do wish the last one was on audible like the others. I drive a lot, so actual reading can be a challenge. I will definitely be listening again!
This was a fantastic series, with the first book and #5 The Leviathan being the stand-outs. With that said, I couldn’t put down Black River. The ending is rushed, very rushed...and the ambiguous are-they or aren’t-they relationship between Ozzie and Jeremiah is a little annoying since they never kiss or have a conversation that confirms it but I pronounce them a couple because I mean they’re perfect together and Jeremiah misses Ozzie’s aftershave...and well Roth sees Ozzie as his daddy! Anyway, I liked the character development of Jeremiah, Ozzie, and Cadwyn in this book but some plot threads that have been built up for a long time get resolved like it was nothing- I mean the kraken is a good guy now? Sure, why not? And some are abandoned all together. And many things seemingly make no sense if you’ve read the other books: The first demon was virtually indestructible but The Ladies can kill 3 and a witch (Claudia and Katrina and The Benefactor are built up to be big baddies but they’re destroyed in what 5 minutes...huh?). And why the Bacchanals that seemed to come from no where and have relatively no significance? No resolution for Barnaby and Jeremiah after being a big focus for most of this book, Issac’s ghost didn’t matter...It seemed Clancy was just done and ready to move on. I’ll accept that and I still loved it and Clancy’s writing even with all of my criticisms. I will miss these characters, even Basheba. I won’t miss the descriptions of poor Mina, who is basically a piece of shredded skin and a ball of hair by the end of the series.

BLACK RIVER by Sara Clancy is Book 6 of The Bell Witch Series. This is a series that really needs reading in consecutive order, because the various backstories are so complex, and by this I refer to both the historical legacy and to the contemporary issues. This Series gives new meaning to "extended " family and the family members are so numerous that one needs a scorecard.
I completely agree that the books really need to be read in order otherwise the reader would be lost. I loved reading this series, it was definitely one that I struggled to put down 😀 I read someone’s review that there was not enough romance in it?? Is it just me or did they completely miss the point? The books didn’t need any romance, it was about love, trust, acceptance and how your family can f*** you up in a variety of ways but you don’t always quite see it until it slaps you in the face. I loved the relationship between Basheba and Cadwyn, it didn’t have to go any deeper than it did as these were 2 young people who were very “mentally unstable” (not sure if that’s quite the correct analogy) however they found companionship with each other and you could tell that they really did love each other only maybe not in a sexual way. I definitely think Buck was my favourite character, I loved the way he was written into the books, question why are Scottish men always portrayed as big beefy and ginger?? It’s hilarious..
I read all 6 books in the Bell Witch series. The driver to do this was primarily for the characters, and secondary for the plot. But the plot started to fall apart or get too muddled for me after the 3rd book. In a way it was disappointing. The main characters started to get too far out there about the 4th book. I honestly believe the author should have left both the plot and characters alone. The scene settings were fairly decent and remained constant throughout the series. All in all it was worth the time and effort, and I found it enjoyable.
I have completely enjoyed every 1 of the books in the series. This last 1 was a very satisfying conclusion to the Bell Witch story.I have been totally absorbed in the story and loved all of the characters. It has kept me engaged through each book And has always been hard to put down. I look forward to Exploring More of Sarah Clancy's stories.
As you might expect, everything is wrapped up in this book, but there were still plenty of surprises! The group faces many challenges before they make it to Black River. There they have challenges to face AND their families. I'm not sure which is worse. :) I really enjoyed this series and hope you do, too!
Well, this series closed out with a serious bang! I was not expecting this twist, but it made for a great read overall! As the factions continue warring with each other, the small band is trying to destroy the monster forever. However, pacts made have to be honored, no matter what.
I was pleasantly surprised by this series! I really enjoyed it from start to finish! It was well paced and the characters to awesome and well written. Highly recommend! Only issue with this book was because I listened to the audiobook and narrator couldn’t do a Scottish accent and kept slipping into a weird Jamaican accent that honestly just made me laugh the whole time.
Es war eine tolle Reihe. Spannen, brutal, blutig, Aktionreich.
This was such a great ending to the series!! Absolutely loved the whole fight scene and how they defeated the benefactor/demon. The author wrapped up the series in a fantastic way. I’m so happy I spent the credits to listen to the whole series.
So happy the final book closed everything up. Sara’s writing is amazing. I just think the book could have been a little shorter and it felt a tad slow for me but I still enjoyed it.
