From the perfect marriage to the perfect deception.Julia can’t believe that after twelve happy years, her relationship with Derek is finished; the pieces of the life they built together nothing but rubble at her feet. She’s left shocked and alone to deal with the deception and wonder… how could she have been so wrong? The Deception is a novel of betrayal and a reminder that things are never as they appear.
A quick read. About a marriage in trouble but with a twist. This is a psych/dom thriller with two almost estranged or busy people with mild issues -like fighting infertility, busyness - that snowball quickly into a nightmare for the h.
I knew it from the start for some reason but it still kept my interest. I am glad Derek caught the slip up and was smarter than the evil one. But it took him long enough. And the h was just totally going oblivious. They all were I guess. But it was an interesting read. I would read this author again. This is not really a romance. People are in love but its more of a mystery. Is she going crazy, or is he cheating. The ending was perfect really.
Good story. Well researched. And fairly well put together. There’s definitely some parts that skip around and don’t get thoroughly into some things that I would like more explanation for, but overall, it’s intriguing and keeps you engaged from start to finish. I would like to see more though.
It's a simple story, the ending was I guess expected but I think it came across as a romance that attempted to be a psychological thriller. Interesting idea.
Julia was married with a so-called perfect life, but she often felt bored and restless. Perhaps she could take ballroom dance lessons, which was really an excuse to get out of “a deep hold of depression brought on by the knowledge she could not get pregnant.”
Julia just seemed to think that everyone’s life was better than hers. Ordinarily she wouldn’t mind that her husband’s work often took him away on business trips (that was just the way it was) until doubt settles in and she begins to wonder what he actually does when he’s away. That compiled with the odd behavior she’s been noticing lately. At it would seem that someone’s been watching her.
Story had an easy narrative. The whole thing is written in a diary format as Julia relays Derek’s odd and distant tendencies. She spends most of her time trying to figure what’s wrong with him. I thought this was interesting, but it seemed slow and uneventful.
The Deception immediately draws you into its plot because of its strong characters, in particular the married couple, Julia and Derek. I found myself envying their relationship--it was so natural and easy. By the title alone, we know someone is deceiving someone else, and I had an inkling who it was, but there were also a couple of other choices. I think a few more options would have led to more mystery. There were some interesting scenes in the book. I particularly enjoyed the one where the dance instructor comes to dinner. I think with a more intricate plotline, the writer definitely has the talent to weave a top-rate mystery. I could see this as a good Lifetime movie.
I really couldn’t put this down, I had to see where it was going, you never lose interest in this one. I typically LOVE books that don’t introduce way more characters than they need, and this book gave me exactly what I usually love, a minimal amount of characters, but it almost hurt the story in this case by not having a few more people introduced, in a sense that you can pretty much guess what’s happening as there are only so many options. But I really did like this book and found it hard to put down and was able to finish it in a day. I would recommend for sure!
It is enjoyable Reviewed in India on 15 February 2021 The start seems okay. But then slowly, it picked up the pace. The way deception was revealed till the end is commendable. What worked for me were the subtle clue that was provided. However, they were cleverly disguised and unlike few books when it is so obvious to the reader, still protagonist has no clue. That is irritaing. But this book the way clues were hidden and the joy to finding the right suspect worked for me.
Not a romance. The book has some aspirations to be a psychological thriller. The heroine was TSTL . It was explained by her depression due to infertility. She became susceptible to manipulation. The resolution was too simplistic and underwhelming . The story kept me reading though to see how it all ends.
Fantastic, solid storyline with a wild ride of emotions to the story. Some unexpected and confusing bits here and there to throw off the reader. All this lead to a great finale of reading this book. Julia and Derek, main characters, were well written. Highly recommend this book.
This is the first book I read from this autor and let me tell you that I loved it! Such a good book with great characters that keeps you obsessed with every page since the first one. Amazing job! definitely a must read!
This is perfect summer read. The author keeps a great pace and doesn't fill the story with a bunch of mind numbing commentary. It's an entertaining page turner that was just what I needed on a rainy, spring day.
But a good page turner nonetheless. There were a few unanswered questions that I have. Although no twist to be had, this book was a straight forward domestic thriller. Just like something you would see on Lifetime Movies.
This was a very entertaining "romantic thriller". The villain is easy to see and catch but it didn't take from the story for me. Wanted more grovel from the hubby from the things he said in the last chapters though.
Interesting mystery thriller. A little on the "light" side. Rambling through day to day activities with two women who want the hero leading up to the grand finale. Fortunately they caught on to the drift.
I enjoyed reading and finished in one day. Very cleverly written. Realistically I could see someone being manipulated to doubt a partner and ending a surprise
The story line had mystery and frustration , the married couple had neglected their relationship. The wife meets a crazy woman who is obsessed with her husband.
