Seraphina Berkley has put her heart and soul into her bakery, Sweet Sera’s, for the past ten years. Needless to say, when a chocolatier comes to town and opens a new business right across the street, she feels threatened by the competition. It doesn’t matter that the owner has been nothing but nice or that he’s one of the most handsome men ever to set foot in Heart Valley. She wants little to do with him. The chocolate, however, is a different story. Adam Gray didn’t give the bakery across the street a second thought when he opened Confessions. He was simply looking for a new home and a fresh start, anything to get away from his past. Despite Sera’s initial coolness towards him, he jumps at an opportunity to help her in the bakery. Working together proves to be like tempering chocolate, heating and cooling it until it sets up into something smooth and beautiful, something his life desperately needs. But Adam’s past returns, potentially destroying everything he and Sera have created. Now, he must not only fight to save his sanity, but the one he’s come to love. Will he be able to save them both or will it all burn down?
I really enjoyed this story. I loved how the author brought to light PTSD with a character. This story is about two shop owners, Sweet Sera’s owner, Seraphina, and the owner of a brand new Chocolate shop across the road, Adam. This story takes place in a small Wyoming town and is full of small town charm. If you read book 1 in the series, you will recognize some of the characters (if not, this works as a great stand alone as well!). Sera is a strong female lead. She has worked very hard to get where she is. Adam also is a strong lead, he is starting over in a new town away from a disaster that happened in the pervious town he lived and worked in. There’s humor in the story and lots of winter and Christmas “magic.” If you’re looking for a fun, light read that will bring a smile to your face, look no further!
I always say my favorite book is the one I just put out and this one doesn't disappoint. This sounded like a crazy title for a story, but once you get started reading, you will discover the reason. Sera owned and operated a shop called Sweet Sera’s. She served pastries and lunch items.Across the street, a person called Adam, started a shop making sweet chocolate. Confections. Things get complicated between Adam and Sera, but love finds it’s way.
While the setting might be in the same town, this book is not a sequel. It's a great story about moving on from the past and embracing the future. Sometimes letting go and living in the moment is the best way to live.
The cover of Chocolate for Two is so warm and inviting that I just had to read this book. As suspected, this tale about baker Seraphina and chocolatier Adam was as inviting as its cover. It kept me engaged and entertained. It moved me and made me laugh out loud. McMurrain created memorable and believable characters with complex lives and pasts. These characters will stay with you after the book is closed and you will be left smiling.
Warning: You may find yourself suddenly craving pastries. For me that craving caused me to discover the best danishes in my town, and to set aside some time in the afternoon for my danish treat, an espresso, and this lovely book. Now, more than ever, that self-care was a special treat. I highly recommend you, too, treat yourself. While I do not typically reach for romance, I am now eager to read any book McMurrain writes.
