Spoiler Free/Would I Recommend Review:

I've read and critiqued over a dozen different projects from newly published authors, some of which are from good friends of mine. Elites: The Island of Darkness is one such novel, and it is easily my favorite. I had the pleasure of beta reading this book before its publication, and reading the completed copy was a treat.

For the first novel from a self-publishing author, Elites is packed. From the four point of view characters to the countless side characters and even more countless magic concepts, it's an ambitious project.

The main cast, comprised of Talon, Karson, Korie, and Jayson, was fun to follow throughout. Some are given more emphasis and page count than others, which I personally think is smart but might be something to watch out for. They're all quite archetypal, and I found some side characters and villains to be quite flat, but this is to be expected from a book of this genre.

The only major critique I have of Elites: The Island of Darkness is that as a fantasy novel I felt it didn't introduce any interesting new fantasy concepts or world ideas. A LOT of different magic systems are introduced throughout the book and most of them didn't feel fleshed out, or in some cases well-defined. Magic is often used as a plot convenience or otherwise just a power-up and none of it felt new or unique compared to other fantasy works.

Would I recommend Elites? I'd say YES, but you should go in with the right expectation. Despite the 400+ page count, Elites reads like a children's novel for the most part. The characters, plot, and dialogue are campy and safe throughout. It's more similar to modern children's fantasy such as Wings of Fire rather than modern YA fantasy like Six of Crows or Throne of Glass. But like Wings of Fire, Elites gets quite violent at some parts to the point of the tonal shift feeling jarring. Some character deaths reminded me of Game of Thrones kills. This is a pro to some people and a con to others, so just take this into consideration before reading.

Overall, as the first Novel from young author Kira Dewey, I'm impressed by Elites. Glad I had the pleasure of reading this through to completion and can't wait for the next installment!

I am so impressed with this young writer and her debut novel. Her descriptions of the land, characters, and what is happening is well written and draws you in. I look forward to the next installment and seeing what happens to these young Elite Knights.

🖤🎩ELITES : The Island of Darkness by Kira Dewey is a long read of 457 pages , consisting of 41 chapters that will require sittings to finish.

🖤🎩Starting with the title of the book “ELITES : The Island of Darkness " I feel the title is a relevant one , it is easy to understand and also is a catchy one. Apart from all this it has that attention catching quality because reading the title it gives a vibe that grabs the attention of the viewer.Cover on the other hand is a very attractive one, color combination is nice. Overall the outer appearance of the book is appealing and I would give it a 2/2 for the cover and the title.

🖤🎩Basically the book is an exciting read. Where when you start it you are doing to have a happening storyline and with so much of detailed scenes and dialogues that it would seem like you are present in the scene and watching all of this with your eyes. Now this is a quality of writing which actually converts words into emotions connects with you.

🖤🎩Coming to the plot of the story, It's an enormous undertaking from the four point of view protagonists to the endless secondary characters and many more various magic constructs. The plot continues as the realm of Magnotus is invaded again by the hostile brother of the king, Nero.

🖤🎩I loved the characterisation and the narratives but my favorite was Talon , totally commendable and will keep you hooked throughout. I have read six of crows in the past and the story felt like the same in genre and I loved it more.

🖤🎩There was no unnecessary stretching at all. It was all so perfect. I just loved it all. I loved the experience this book gave. I highly recommend it to all the readers out there.

🖤🎩Talking about the words and the language used in the book, in terms of difficulty personally I didn't face any difficulty while reading the book.

Elites: The Island of Darkness mini-review. 4/5⭐️

First of all, I love reading books by fellow indie authors so I already knew I’d enjoy this book. BUT HOLY COW DID I LOVE IT!
The main characters were super fun to follow because they weren’t perfect and didn’t always make the right choices. I especially loved Talon because he reminded me of Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender and I was HERE FOR IT. Can I also just say that the talismans were super interesting and I can wait to see all the stuff they can do.
And the cute little animal pals! Even the scary wyverns were adorable🥰
While there were some minor things that bugged me like a few of the characters needing to be fleshed out more, this was still a super fun read that I would definitely recommend!
