Soul Salsa: Learning to Savor Every Season

Rate this book
The art of living and eating well is one of Elisa's favorite topics, and the theme for Soul Salsa. Each season brings its own materials to the table of design and delight, and what we do with those is our art. Living well is perhaps the highest art, and one that we all can learn to master. It requires conscious attention and intention more than any particular skill set. Thankfully it does not require a large bank account, but you'll need a heart and mind that are open to gratitude and simple abundance . . . Therein lies your success, satisfaction, and soul salsa. This collection of reflections and recipes serves up "spoonfuls" of salsa for body and soul through every season of the year. Learn to select and savor the ingredients of a healthy, creative, and authentic life!

I began reading for book club and experienced only one chapter. This book encourages self examination and much conversation (usually evidenced by a multitude of marginalia). I am putting it aside for a while to provide myself an emotional break. In the next season, I'll return to the reflections. While I can put aside the overt reliance on the christian god, I am occasionally put off by the overwhelming vantage point of privilege. Periodically, I find myself editing rather than considering the content. A good starting point for reflection. Full of unexpected gems in the recipes. Not a text to sit down and read from cover to cover. Rather one to read in spurts and contemplate.

So not for me. Not enough substance; so much self reflection and way to much religion. I only picked it up because I thought it had recipes and stories about cooking and I thought the author went to my college - always want to support an Earlham grad - but oh well
