My name is Adrien Dumortier. My best friend, James Leveritt, has just married the woman I love. That’s not the worst of it. She’s also pregnant with his child. To be fair, the man thinks I’m dead. Kaboom! Adie Dumortier is back, and he's definitely taking prisoners.
If you've read the author's Special Agent Novel series then it's very likely that you will already be madly in love with Adie. In Deadly Retaliation the sense of betrayal he feels seems to have unbalanced his ego somewhat.
He's in parts a lost little boy, looking for love, and a complete and utter bar-steward, determined to wreak revenge on those he considers to have done him wrong. How you can want to both hug and slap a hero at the same time, I'm not sure, but Adie makes me feel extremes of emotion simultaneously. I don't think there are many of us who would turn down a night with this man - even knowing that it will leave us wrecked.
Whilst we have met some of the characters in a previous series, you can jump into the story here.
Anything you need to know has been worked into this book, so whilst all the pertinent backstory is covered, it does mean it contain spoilers for that previous series. The book ends on a cliffhanger, though at a natural break point rather than a high octane moment. The book is written from multiple POV, though mainly it is Adie's along with a few chapters each from the women who both would like to have him under their thumb, as well as in their panties.
There is just something about Ms Mandara's writing that resonates with my id. Her characters charm me, I find her naughty scenes a delightful mix of kink, darkness and scorching heat and there is an undercurrent of tartly sarcastic humour throughout. The pace readily held my attention, as did the amazingly creative, and crazy, plot. I absolutely, totally and utterly recommend this book.
Conversation is highly overrated, I'm allergic to feelings, and she can have whatever opinion she likes as long as she doesn't feel the need to share it with me. Generally, she's gagged, though, so it isn't a big problem. Fifty Shades of Grey wasn't completely terrible, but Grey was way too normal and a bit insipid for my tastes.

After being left for dead by his best friend, Adie is seeking revenge and will not stop until he succeeds. With conflicting and hidden interests at play, Adie’s mission is fraught with the potential for a disaster.
From reading the Special Agent series, I was very familiar with Adie’s sexual proclivities, his hard to resist looks and devastatingly sexy charm. But now, as Adie sets his plan in motion, there is action and tension due to the various plot points at play. I definitely liked seeing vengeful Adie and enjoyed his playful humor. With the female characters, there’s still much more that needs to develop, but Leader is intriguing to say the least.
While the first half of the book had a slower pace due to setting a foundation, the latter half significantly picked up the momentum. There was one part where I thought I was going to have to slap Adie because he made me so nervous, but he proved himself a few times over. Overall, I am curious to see how it’s all going to unfold because there are so many interesting variables at this point.
Deadly Retaliation is an action driven dark suspense that would appeal to those with twisty erotic tastes.

I am a gentleman at the end of the day, albeit a dreadfully twisted one.
Adrien and is gentlemanly ways are back.

After finishing the Special Agent series I was thrilled to see the author was contining Adrien's story and made him the focus of his own series. Ashes left off with Adrien understandably angry & hurt from the events in Ashes. From the outset this book sets up Adrien's plans for revenge as well as the beginning of a enemies to lovers romance. While I've seen some readers pick up this book first and like it, I do suggest reading The Special Agent series first. Adrien was more...suave, in the flow in the Special Agent series. With that said, due to his upbringing, he is emotionally stunted, and considering the events in Ashes his OTT dialogue & demeanor is authentic to his character but could rub readers the wrong way if they don't understand his backstory.
While I'm writing this review I've now already read book 3, Violent Retaliation. I got to this review late. I remember quite enjoying the scenes with Sharkey and Aidie in this book. My hope though is that the focus of book 4 onwards narrows down to Mel & Aidie's flammable relationship.

C.P. Mandara writes some of the best strong heroines. They're badass, but legitimately so. They're not perfect or Mary Sue heroines, but filled with vulnerabilities. Since I've read to book 3 I know Mandara further explores Mel's vulnerabilities in the next two books. Book 4 is looking like it's going in the direction of Mel getting her mojo back.
What I'm looking forward to most is somehow both Mel & Adie coming together (it's going to be a power struggle). I can see the setup of a crazy love between these two and I'm ready for the ride.

She stiffens further as my fingers begin tweaking that little nub, but she’ll only be able to resist these talented hands for so long. They know exactly what they are doing and the tunes I can play on her little instrument are fucking masterpieces.

Deadly Retaliation is one of the easiest books I've ever written. I loved being back with Adie so much. He's almost the perfect antihero. He's full of himself, he's cocky, he's the sexiest thing on two legs, and he's sarcastic as hell. My favourite kind of man ;)
I can't believe this all started with Sparks, which then morphed into a six book series - and yikes - it's still going!
Anyway, this will be another dark romance series, but as of yet, I couldn't tell you how many books there will be. Knowing my love affair with Adie, there could be a few!
This time around, I thought I'd get him involved in a love triangle of his own, although the man basically has a revolving harem of women anyway. I thought it would be nice to throw him a strong, independent woman who not only knows how to deal with what he dishes out, but can dish out some of her own at the same time. This will become clearer as the series progresses, though.
For now, expect dark twisted romance, kidnapping, a nasty bully alpha male, lots of intrigue and plenty of suspense.
Many thanks to all of you who demanded to know if Adie had actually died in the last book of the Special Agent series. I think you encouraged me to start this, and I'm really, really glad you did!

This book was just crazy. This was a dark twisted read that was full of action. Adrien "Adie" Dumortier is out for revenge his best friend James married the woman that he loves. James thinks he is dead because he left him to die at the hands of his twin brother who was also a psycho. Adie who is a spy also works with some crazy people like his boss Elizabeth and Leader who gives him a run for his money. My problem with this book was that I didn't connect with him and all the craziness going on in it. The sex scene were also crazy I have read this author before so I knew they would be crazy. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling.

What a cast of characters! Assassins, heads of covert ops, restaurateurs who know you have a mouthful of panties - they’re all here. Brought together for wickedness and laughs, and there’s plenty of both. If you thought James Bond was witty and sexy, you ain’t seen nothing yet.
The cliffie is utterly evil, just like Adrian, it will have you on edge until the next book is out. Can’t wait!
Highly recommended.

Loathed main characters and hate fact I was led to believe it can be read as a stand-alone to find you need know what went on before but worse it ends slap bang as a cliffhanger and is a writers worst ploy to entice you to buy next episode.
I won’t.
Quality of writing is good enough but I’ve dropped a star based on lousy cliffhanger ending.
Two stars from one disappointed reader.

Adrien “Adie” Dumortier is a dangerous good looking spy, attempting to capture Melinda “Mel” Leader his biggest adversary who can easily kill without batting an eye. Melinda spares Adie’s life remaining the perpetual thorn in his side. When Adie reports back to his boss that Leader has again got the best of him, she wants to pull him off in chasing Melinda. Adie is insistent that he stay on the case because he really can’t figure out why she just hasn’t killed him. Also Adie has an ulterior motive to get revenge on James, his best friend, because he married the girl Adie wanted. Adie wants retribution and will do anything to get it even take something precious to James, his sister, Ione. Adie is on a path and nothing will stand in his way to get her except for Leader who is also onto him too.
This wonderfully dark twisted suspenseful novel is filled to the brim with assassins playing good or bad, erotica and a lot of killing! The story moves somewhat slow but definitely builds the tension taking you on quite a ride! In fact, the book is skillfully written that there really is no apprehension or question in anything. The title is a little misleading though. It seems all the female characters don’t know that they are in the guy’s harem or that they are sharing him. Unfortunately, this isn’t the finale and yes it ends in a cliff-hanger too, which is its own kind of torture. Melinda the overly confident heroine is not someone that you really want to be bosom buddies with or even have a nice girl’s night out with unless fighting is on the agenda. Still she is not a wilting flower and isn’t scared of anyone so in that sense she is relatable. Adie is a complex messed up enigma of a guy. He’s not nice or even very pleasant to anyone. Yes, he’s rude, mean and is the perfect description of a bully. You’ll hate him, you’ll wonder what makes him a hero, you’ll want to kill him and yet you still want him or to sleep with you doing depraved bad things to you. It really is a conundrum! Ms. CP Mandara knows how to enchant us with her mesmerizing way to tell a satisfying tale and definitely has our attention, making us want more.

This is the first book of the Dark Bully Harem Romance Duo. Talk about full of suspense and dark elements. I have not read the Secret Agent Series but now I can see what all the fuss about Adie is. Talk about gorgeous not to mention sarcastic and arrogant. Oh and did I say ladies man who loved sex. Adie's plan for revenge against James includes kidnapping his sister. James thought Adie was dead so he married his girl and now she's pregnant with his child. It's hard to keep up with Adie at times as he's all over the place. It's all about dark sex, danger, dominance and passion. This is an extremely well written book that's almost impossible to put down once you begin reading. The characters are amazing. I read a free arc via Book Sirens and voluntarily chose to write a review.

This is a spin-off of another serie, so parts are only glazed expecting the reader to have read the previous books.
That gives the book a rushed feel.

This is the first book in the series and is action packed. Adrien’s best friend has just married the woman he loves and now she is pregnant. James should have saved him but he didn’t, now Adrien even though everyone thinks he is dead, plans to get his revenge. Fast-paced read with loads of drama, twists and turns and steam. I really liked it.

I have to confess… I wasn’t looking for Addie to run his own series. When his character “died” at the close of the Special Agent series, I believed it. Opening this book was a shock to my system! I’m not 100 percent sure I can buy it yet, honestly, because CP wrote his death very convincingly! That being said, this book starts a series that stands on its own- and that I can buy! I love that a character who seemed to have it all together suddenly is off his game and caught off guard- not just by a woman who is his equal, but by other women in general! My major struggle with this one is believing that Addie would believe James betrayed him. James was his best friend, who had been with him through hell. I haven’t been able to remove that thought, and it colors how I read this series. However, love screws with our minds and Addie is in love with Lois- believing that James betrayed him over believing Lois doesn’t love him the same way is definitely likely. I immediately finished this book and NEEDED the sequel.

I found this book a bit confusing at first, my guess I didn’t realize their is another series in front of it that leads into this. There really isn’t much more I can/could say than what has already been said by other reviewers. This author always does an amazing job with her stories. This is a page turning dark erotic thriller so keep that in mind. A pretty fast-paced read with a boat load of drama, twists and turns, more steam than a body can handle and a lot of comedy. Who would have guessed? Anyway, if this is your type of genre grab this one. it’s a good one. I received an Advance Reader's Copy and am voluntarily leaving my honest thoughts and opinions.

I did not read the Secret Agent series, so while this is a standalone book, there were a few times I felt completely out of the loop. So, I’ll be going back and reading that series, because there was a heck of a lot going on in this book and I don’t want to feel like I’m missing anything!

Sarcastic and humorous comments can be heard when you get to know the thoughts of the different characters. Nice to discover how they think and feel
Adrien Dumortier is a man who works for the government. His work consists of spying, kidnapping, mutilating and torturing just to get the information that his assignment expects from that moment. In addition he is thinking of a way to get revenge on his former friend James, who left him for dead and married the woman he loves.
During his work he has come into contact with Mel Leader a few times. She manages to outdo him every time. She is another one to meet his revenge to get back to her.
And then there is its kinker than kink sex. Born into an underworld family he is familiar with everything and the way he enjoys sex is more than perverted.
Great ingredients for a story of which this book is a 1st part.
Unbeknownst to him, James is one step ahead of him when Adrien tries to kidnap his sister. James gets Leader to take her sister's place. She's got a GPS tracker in her arm so he can find her before Adrien gets around to torturing her. Adrien kidnaps his sister (Leader) but finds the tracker. The book ends when Adrien shows Leader what he is capable of for the first time and before he takes her to an unknown place. What if James cant find her anymore?

Christina Madara is one of my favorite writers. Her style is amazing the stories are sizzling hot and the plot always exciting and thrilling. Deadly Retaliation for me is her best yet.
Adrien Dumortier is hot, handsome and in this novel full of desire for hot scenes and revenge. The last book left us thinking that he would die in his brother’s hands, but Andie escaped the bomb his brother strapped on his chest just in time and now he is back filled with anger and hungry for pay back. He thinks that his best friend and his girl left him to die. The fact is that they did not do that, when they arrived the bomb had gone off and they thought he was already dead. When Andie returned he found out that his best friend married his girl and he’s heartbroken. This novel is more exciting more thrilling filled with twists and turns that keep the reader glued to the pages. I was unable to put the book down because Christina did a wonderful job with the hot sizzling scenes mixing humor, darkness, scorching hot sex, restraints, punishment and pleasure.
Andie’s fun takes a different meaning in this novel. It does make you wonder how many women will fall in love with him before you get to the last page. The author throws a lot of twists to the story and when you think that Andie is ready to do one thing here comes something else to send the story to a different path. I simply loved the book and the main character and I can’t wait for the next novel in the series.

My Favorite Sadist (well after Mark of course!)
Adie is back and looking for revenge. Why? Well, who wouldn’t have looked for him even though he should have been blown to smithereens? Also, Adie thinks he is in love with Lois and wants her for himself. His love for Lois does not keep him from coveting his nemesis, Melanie Leader, or taking advantage of blackmailing his female boss, Elizabeth. No, our Adie likes to keep things interesting.
The plot is well thought out with Adie’s focus being revenge and getting the girl, but Christina throws temptation in front of him in the form of Leader, another agent from a rival agency. And Leader’s involvement in trying to prevent Adie from getting to Lois adds another foil to the plot. We see Adie planning the kidnapping of James’ sister Ione, but things are not what they seem. The scenes between Adie and his boss Elizabeth are hot and we see the power dynamic shifting in his favor. So, that leaves the question of, “How many of these women are going to fall in love/hate with him?” Right now, he thinks he wants Lois but my bet is on Leader becoming his new sexual obsession, even though they are both dominant. The dynamic between them will be interesting to see as the series continues.
We are left with a cliffhanger- will James find “Ione” before Adie has his fun with her? Let’s hope he doesn’t find her too soon because Addie’s “fun” involves a lot of entertaining things like restraints, punishments and pleasure (for him or Ione is to be determined). I am looking forward to the next book!

I read this book as I've read a number of others by C.P. Mandara and enjoyed them. If I'd known more about the content I probably wouldn't have read the book, but that's wholly because the genre, set in a world of private espionage & dirty tricks, is not one I care for. But, that's me - if you like the genre then definitely read the book as it is well-written and entertaining throughout.
The book starts with characters already partly formed (there's a prequel series). However, there's enough description of motivations that even though I hadn't read the earlier series I had no difficulty understanding motivations. The story line starts out with an action sequence (and aftermath) introducing the main characters for this book and then focuses on sexual torture and pleasure of the two lead females. I'd never want to date the lead male.
This is the first in a new series; so, yes, there's an ending that leaves you curious about how events will unfold. However, the ending is certainly good enough to conclude the events of this episode in the lives of the characters.

If you have read Sparks you have meet Adie and such a wonderful twisted soul we have here, I was heartbroken when I thought we might have heard the last of Adie in the explosion. But he is back and bad as ever.
I can't believe how much I love this new series featuring Adie, I also can't believe how much of a comedic slant Christina has added to it that has cracked me up a few times. Oh, Adie to be your prisoner....😒 hmmm...maybe not. I am not going to give away the fantastic plot that is going on here, ending in a kidnapping and torture in true Adie style. We will have to wait to see who will try to kill Adie first, his boss, Leader, James, Lois or one of his other coworkers. I can only hope Christina can write really fast. Love this series!

This was an interesting book. Adrien, the H, is a bit crazy. I think I've missed a big part of the story by not having read the series prior to this book that gives the history between Adrien and James, who was his best friend at one time before he married the woman Adrien was in love with. Adrien's brother had him tied up with a bomb in the room and everyone thought Adrien had died when the bomb went off. Well, surprise.....he survived and he's back to get revenge.
Adrien's plan is to kidnap James' sister so he can torture her and send James the proof, thus distracting James so he can get to Lois.
Ms. Mandara kept me so engaged in Adie's story, I'm definitely going to read the next book and I'm going back to the beginning to where it all started.

I really enjoyed the Special Agent series and it is great to read about Adie. Adie is a self confessed sociopath, he is cruel, self aware, very, very clever and funny. However, he is on a mission to get back at James and steal Lois. I have to say I was a little confused with the names but it is all clarified at the end. I had to laugh at Adie’s inner voice much of the time, but be warned while amusing it is dark and sinister the further the story evolves and the tension rises towards the end of the book and I have a feeling things will get worse before they get better. This is a compelling story and I look forward to the next one.

I read the second book before I read this book and boy was I confused. Ms. Mandara tends to have characters with multiple names. This is because they are covert agents or... criminals so they tend to have multiple identities. I highly recommend reading this series in the order it was written. Start with this book before reading the following ones.

If you have read and loved the Secret Agents series then this is a must read. It is all about Adie and what happens after that explosive ending of the Secret Agent series.
Adie is in all his unapologetic glory. He is true to himself in every way. There are a lot of great, funny, sassy, sexy conversations between the characters. It made me laugh. There is also a lot of action going on, so you will be flipping page after page to find out what will happen next.
I can’t wait for the next book.

Adrien (Adie) thinks that his best friend James left him for dead, and has stolen the woman (Lois) he loved and wronged him. While he searches to find James and extract his revenge, he has been locking horns with Melinda Leader, an agent from a competing agency. She certainly has challenged him, and he is attracted to her. Adrien comes up with a plan to get back at James, but what if James is a step ahead of him? I loved the intrigue, spy atmosphere, danger and secrets in this interesting action dark romance. I look forward to the next part.

OMG
This man gives you one heck of a rush. I figured someone would have to knock their boss down a peg or two- Elizabeth is definitely got something going on. Trying to take on Adie KNOWING who and how he is was a mistake.
He's sure to use this as a way to get what he wants from James. I can't wait to see how this plays out. I hope he an Adrian have a good alpha fight BUT are still able to remain friends they make a good team
