Can they handle the competition?

Getting down and dirty in the sand is all in a day’s work for pro-volleyball digger, Robby Gilcrest, but a new doubles partner has him competing both on and off the court.

Ace Henderson comes from the wrong side of the tracks and has worked for every success in his life. Why should he think his relationship with Robby would be any different?

But he’s not losing to Morgan. Robby is his, right?

Beach volleyball and fouled emotions will bring them together or tear them apart - right on time for these Olympic hopefuls.

A sweet MM romance with an established couple and plenty of balls.

A good, solid story.

I didn't love it, but it was better than okay. Ace and Robby were well developed. Their story made sense. It had a good pace to keep me reading. I really liked Robby, which isn't a surprise since I tend to favor the brats.

Ace is a more complicated character. I started out really liking the boundary he set to prioritize their personal relationship so that being teammates wouldn't break them up. Then his character got a few red flags up for me and my rating flirted with 3 stars a few times. My biggest issue with him, I think, was his focus on his own success at volleyball without Robby. Ace had a new partner he was doing well with, so it didn't seem to matter much to him how Robby struggled to find a new partner to continue competing. I just would have expected more empathy at times than Ace showed by blaming the difficulty on Robby's brattiness. To be so rigid on your stance that they could not longer play together because it might put their romantic relationship at risk really put their romantic relationship at risk!

I liked what Morgan added to the story, including the jealousy he made Ace feel. The ending had a lot of rushed elements, though, and I still have no idea why that robbery happened. Ace also seriously lost points for me over the romantic dinner with cufflinks. I was right there with Robby expecting a ring to be in that box. I think that's the kind of night I'd sleep somewhere alone to decompress after. With all of Ace's lipservice to the importance of their relationship, he just dropped the ball alot. He never got to a level where I hated him, though. He'd have Robby's perspective to redeem him and chapters where Ace recognized his flaws, so the story and pair just really work out in the end.

Performance: 4 Stars
Story: 3.5 Stars

"Volley" is an easy listening, no-angst sports romance with likeable MCs and a fairly breezy storyline. There's not a whole lot of time/pages here for a deep dive into the MCs or their relationship, but there's some entertaining sporty times, steamy times, and heartfelt moments between them as they pursue their Olympic dreams.

Ace and Robby are pro volleyball players in their 20s who give up being partners on the court to be partners off, all at Robby's insistence of not mixing business with pleasure (which I found a bit silly, but it's the crux of the story). They're also both a little immature, with Robby sulking about his difficulties in finding a new partner, and Ace then getting jealous when Robby's eventual new partner turns out to be a talented hottie. Any strife between the two is quickly resolved, though.

I enjoyed the performances of both narrators, particularly new-to-me narrator Lance Isley, and appreciated how their voices sounded very age-appropriate for the MCs. I received a free review copy of this audio book and have left this honest review voluntarily.

Volley is a simple sports romance by Lynn Michaels.

I adore Ace and Robby, but there wasn't much to this story. I would have loved MORE of them. There's a little jealousy, a little competition, and some hot sex.

I kept expecting something more to happen, but it never does. I think I would have preferred reading more about the sexual tension that lead to their relationship and then some more tension during this stage of their relationship. Instead, the book is a sweet low-angst sports romance. It's not a bad book, it just isn't what I was expecting.

Overall, Volley is perfect for anyone looking for a fluffy sports romance. This Lynn Michaels tale is a short and sweet read.

LOVE OF SPORTS OR PERSON?

I received this book for free and am giving my honest and voluntary review

Ace and Robby are two top talented volleyball players who have a chance to go to the Olympics as sand-volleyball partners, but Ace won’t partner with Robby if they are dating. Robby has a choice to make and chooses love over the sport. He hampers his chances of going to the Olympics by being overly choosy when he needs a partner.

I loved the dynamics of the jealousy, the love and the immaturity that turns into maturity for the characters and how it is dealt with. A well-written story about a sport I love.

The narration was good and helped the story flow smoothly.

Nice sweet short

Story: 3-stars
Volley is a nice slice-of-life story (not really a romance) of Robbie and Ace as they each aim for an Olympic medal. I would not have minded a prequel story of how they became a couple. Most of the story revolved around the volleyball games and how Ace was unreasonably jealous of Morgan.

Narration: 4-stars
The narration was good: there were well acted parts and then parts that sounded more like a play-by-play than acting or narrating. The best part was that both narrators enunciated so perfectly that I could listen at 2-3x speed without anything sounding slurred or dropping off. I liked the inclusion of a few fxs as well.

COMPETITION

This is a great Book. When the winning team choses different partners it causes friction. Ace and Robby have a winning chemistry. Playing Beach Volleyball is not something I ever followed. LYNN MICHAELS has an eye for many sports. This is a GREAT Book that outlines the competitive nature of this sport. This is a fast paced short story with a lot of love on the line. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!

Love Spikes

Robby and Ace are competitive volleyball players but what happens when the competition continues off the sand? Although there was a bit more jealousy than I liked at times, it was fun watching Robby and Ace grow individually and as a couple. They spark when they’re around each other. Add in a few sweet surprises and you have a heartwarming, heated sports romance.

4.5 what a great short story! I’m sucker for a good sports story and this book didn’t disappoint! It was a different read for me where the MCs were already a couple for years, but different in a good way! It really is a great short read I highly recommend!!

A very interesting shorter read!!! Despite the concise form, there are plenty of feels in it and the whole story is really dynamic. I really liked it a lot!!!

This is the first MM romance I have read with an established couple. Admittedly, I have avoided these books because I tend to enjoy the falling in love part of the story more. But Ace and Robby have a wonderful story. We get to see how they met as volleyball partners and their immediate attraction to each other. To be partners in life, Ace needs to Robby to see that they can't be partners on court. I loved how their relationship came first for them and it skips ahead in time to show them going strong. It focuses on their training for the Olympics and Robby trying to finally mesh with a volleyball partner. Unfortunately when he gets along well with Morgan, the unflappable Ace can't help the irrational jealousy that he starts to feel. There are a fair few fights, a lot of steamy making-up, and so much love. It goes to show that relationships aren't always smooth, but if you're with the person you're meant to be with, you may just come through even stronger.

I'm always worried about the short ones - will they be able to fill a complete story. This one certainly did. This was a short, but sweet story. Add in a sports-related storyline and it really did have a beginning, middle and end to it.

The narration was ok. Not great, but no major complaints with it.

I would definitely check out this author again (this was my first by her).
