With the dragons caught between death and history, hope hangs on by a Thread.
He is the Thread, leader of the Dragons and a being whose entire life had been driven by one goal: the creation of a new dragon – who could cast off the bonds that had been built into them by their creator, one that would be truly free and able to fly in whatever skies they desired.
After centuries, that dream is finally real, and completely out of control.
Follow the Thread as he teams with Upala to try and save both his offspring as well as the children the creature now threatens while exploring the Thread’s dark history with the legendary Manad Vhan hero Orami, and its surprising connection to the present.
‘Talons and Threads’ is a unique novella set in the Fractured Everest world, told entirely from the legendary dragon’s perspective. Taking place after Dragons of Everest (Book 3), this story introduces elements that are further explored in both The Unseen Key (Book 4) as well as Within the Hollow (Book 6).
Featured in this collection as well: a brand-new Fractured Everest short story ‘Courage and Colonies’ – the prequel to the upcoming Within the Hollow, along with the never-before-released original opening to Under Everest!
Come along with the Thread and journey into these many facets of Fractured Everest!

For anyone who has been captivated by the wonderful Fractured Everest series, this volume is a must have. The jewel of the collection is the lead story that centers on the Thread, one of fourteen great dragons of the Everest worlds. The tale fills in an important piece of the events that shaped the difficulties between dragons and their creations, the magic-wielding Manad Vhan. Fits well between Books 5 and 6 of the series (won't make much sense if you aren't familiar with the characters and events through book 5).
The other highlight included in the volume is the alternate opening of Under Everest. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the "more complete" picture of Nima, Drew, Wanda, and Carter in their exciting trek up the icy slopes of Everest, particularly the insight into Nima's tragic past. Well done.
Several short stories and an excerpt from the novel The Fifth Interdictor round out the collection and make good, solid reading. Not to be missed is "Cracks and Crevasses," the first Everest tale where Nima finds Drew trapped in a deep crevasse fighting for his life. This book is very much worth purchasing and serves to add depth to D.H. Dunn's ongoing series.
I've read Talons and Threads. I'll leave another 5 star review but here are my 5 star comments Venom and Vines- awesome. It was so neat to learn a little more about Val from book 2 and have him develop as a hero. I enjoyed the short take on how him and Nima would eventually meet. (No spoilers hah). I liked seeing Val become a hero and develop as a character Threads- I lovedddddd this. Reading through as Thread was amazing. I loved the story of the dragons and how it shaped the story for books 4-6. I loved how it connected the storyline even further, and showed how the dragons were heros themselves. The Fracture other opening- fantastic. What can I say? I loved this alternate start to the series, and although it was different then the one in print, I loved it. I loved how the characters met and how they all worked together. I enjoyed this alternate start, and it was a great joy to read after finishing the series Shopkeep - amazing. I loved this short story. Was mysterious, passionate and thrilling. I loved it. Holes- amazing as well. A love of a boy and his pet. Loyalty among love and loss. Very very good Dragons- amazing. I was gripped by this title and I loved this short. The dragon down the interstate was such a cool concept Overall love Dunn and his works. Incredible work by a talented a creative author.
