SWITCH - a tale of intrigue, plots, plans and counter plots in which the truth is often missing. “Are you stalking me?” she asked. “No, it’s a serious job opportunity.” “Go away, don’t waste my time,” she said. He didn’t move or change his facial expression. “Two hundred.” “Thousand?” “Yes.” “What do you want me to do; murder someone? I’m not really experienced in killing people.” “No, we just need you to be someone else for a while.” “You what?” “Look, I’m serious; you could earn a lot of money for just being someone else for a short time.” “Yeah, and get arrested and thrown in gaol. I have a perfectly good job. Don’t waste my time. Now, please leave me alone.” Zoe McMillan – daughter of multi-billionaire Herbert McMillan, was a rich, spoiled bitch with a history of scandals that the tabloids lapped up whenever she gave them the opportunity. Her father’s minions sought a double of her for him to show in public, only Zoe was blissfully unaware of the nefarious plans that were being made without her knowledge. They found Jane after several months of seeking. One might ask why Zoe needed a double. Jane was the one they found, as on first impressions, she could be Zoe’s twin. Jane asked just that question – why? There were two problems – the first was that the real reason was being kept secret; even from the man who found and approached her. Indeed, very few were in possession of all the facts. The second reason was that although Jane looked almost exactly like Zoe in almost every facial appearance, height, figure, hair colour and speech – they even had similar sized feet, they differed in one crucial aspect – Jane was actually James and had yet to bite the bullet and transition fully. Would Jane take the job? For that sort of money, who wouldn’t?
Tanya Allan is a prolific writer of various works, including novels, short stories and poetry. Some of her work, relating to transgender issues, may be familiar to those who feel that perhaps life would have been easier had they been born with a body and mind of the same gender. She is in the process of publishing all other work under the same name.
Tanya is now settled in the southern half of the United Kingdom (sometimes known as England). Born and educated in Scotland, and having experienced well over a half-century of life, in a myriad of guises, mostly involved keeping the realm safe and secure from enemies, both domestic and foreign, Tanya has a more sedate life now, concentrating on grandchildren, dogs, travel and writing.
Tanya awlays is a sure bet for really good suspense.
Here again she chose a male to female main charcter and turned out a sweet coming out story combined with a rather nasty backstory for her coming out. The suspense as usual is slowly ramping up as the villain gets more and more exposed and our heroine finds the way for her and her "twin" to break free from his grip.
The side characters here are just as well worked as the two heroines and knowing Tanya there might be some future adventures for either of both. The villain's PA reminded me of another PA in a story with a fully female bad-ass heroine: "Entirely Blank" which I can also recommend. But as I said, Tanya is pretty much a guarantee for good suspense. This book certainly is only different in the respect, that it is the best of those I read so far.
More like a thriller/crime drama with a back drop of gender i realy was on the edge of my seat at some points other I was smiling and of course there where tears 😢 beautifully written
Complete shift in a person you can not stand to someone that you care for as the author lays out a very complex growth in this person you really could not stand in the first half of the book.
What a wonderful book. Suspense, intrigue, romance it has everything. Unfortunately it was over all to soon. I would whole heartedly recommend this book!
Good read. I wanted to read the entire book in one sitting. Instead I chose to read over several days so that I could extend the enjoyment. I now have another favorite author.
