A thoroughly satisfying wrap-up of the series! I find myself almost at a loss to summarise this series because it's such an absolutely unapologetic blend of the sublime and the (knowingly, tongue-in-cheek, affectionately) ridiculous. Wilson goes HARD in this series, and it's absolutely delightful, but probably only if you like this sort of thing.

THE RIDICULOUS
It's a tropey, highly self-aware romantic fantasy about a girl with attitude battling fae invaders while being tricked into marriage with a highly sneaky fae! Scouvrel is as twisty as a corkscrew! It's some of the best enemies-to-lovers content I've come across in all of indie publishing!

THE SUBLIME
There are a ton of Bible verses in this series. The worldbuilding is, as always, rich and vivid. There is a theme of sacrifice and substitution and redemption and forgiveness, and a lovely bit at the end where all things are made new and everyone gets their happily ever after, and one little final part that reminded me of something in George MacDonald's LILITH.

I'll be honest: I've been trying to retrain myself to take fiction - particularly, fluffy hilarious romantic stories for women - seriously as artistic endeavours. It takes major skill to write lovable characters, to make them believably attractive to each other, and to develop each of them to the point where, despite past conflict, they're believable as a couple. All while cracking jokes and keeping the adventures coming. But this series stymies me. I feel kind of bad for describing any of it as ridiculous - it's no more self-indulgent or ridiculous than all the stuff men write about square-jawed heroes punching people and blowing things up - and yet to take this story too seriously would be to miss the whole point colossally, which is to have all manner of unapologetic fun. As someone who also wrote something every bit as intentionally ridiculous, yet which one of my most trusted critics called the best thing I've written yet, I suppose I just need to learn to embrace the fact that both ridiculousness and literary skill can coexist quite happily in the same brightly-coloured packaging. I had immense fun reading this series, and I'm looking forward to also binging Fly With the Arrow when that's completed.

A strong finish to a top-notch Fantasy Romance series of five.

The first three were the best - things fell apart a bit with the introduction of the golem army and Substitute concept, and in this one, the denouement went on too long - but overall, Sarah K.L. Wilson is one of the most consistent F/R authors I've found.

I really enjoyed this one. I love how it resolved the tangledness of the Fae and even the humans. And showed us that there is no being who is perfect. And showed us that we have all sinned. I love how even Scourvel realized that he could not be saved by his fate by doing good deeds.

The ending had me crying. I knew that it had to be done in order to save both the Fae and humans. But I still cried. It was the saddest moment in the series. It was about sacrifice. I loved it.

I love how the relationship between Scourvel and Allie flourished. And actually turned from enemies to lovers to something beautiful.

Then Scourvel finally got to read the third book in that series he liked.

The one and only thing I did not like was how Allie never thought about using her sister's true name to get her to stop. Though I understand why the author didn't write that into the story, because of the ending and Allie's character. I just thought it would have been convenient for her to use it a couple of times.

Content in Book:

1. Passionate kisses. An unsettling desire that the Fae have with humans, lust. Seductive. Implied sex, but not shown.

2. Violence. (Hunting animals for food. Beating people up. Hand-to-hand combat. Sword combat. War. Trying to drown someone in wine. Having someone cut off your ear in payment for something, then using that dismembered ear to paint a picture with the blood. Killing people then dismembering their remains to remove them. Shooting people with a bow. Nailing people onto a tree. Going to drown someone in blood to make them Fae. Heads on poles. The Wild Hunt, which is the equivalent of the dead coming back to haunt you. Etc.)

3. Kidnapping children.

4. Magic.

5. Tattoos that represent the magic.

6. People who went crazy after their torture.

7. The Dread Doors. Where the dead go.

Who I Would Recommend This Book Too

Those who want a good book about evil Fae. Good versus evil theme. READ IT, IT'S MY FAVORITE!

This latest installment is the perfect conclusion to this series, which gradually intertwines, like the romance, to shape a plot full of mysteries, action and all the typical elements of the classic fae stories.
This series does not take a breather and although I did not love it as much as I expected, the truth is that I could not stop reading either.

'None of us leaves this life uninjured. The question is never if you will bear wounds. The question is only which wounds you will bear and how well you will endure them.'

5 haunting stars

for the end of a series that practically twisted my heart into knots!!!

I was supposed to read this a very long time back, but somehow kept leaving it at the bottom of the TBR pile. Partly because I didn't want the twisted Tangled Fae tale to end, and partly because I worried the end will be tragic and heartbreaking.
Was I right to be worried? Yes and no. Because the end was indeed both heartbreaking and tragic! And yet, it was also beautiful and happy. In other words, just as tangled as the series itself. Neither perfect nor fully happy, but tragically beautiful and absolutely fitting.

I'm sad to see this series end but it will forever have a place on my shelf of favourites with the mention of 'best fae series ever'!

Allie and Scouvrel have both stolen my heart and their tale is one that will stay with you long after turning the last page.
A tale of tricks and mischief, bargains and betrayal, courage and despair, hope, sacrifice and love against seemingly impossible odds.
A tale of fast-paced edge of the seat action, with twists and turns at every page in a delightfully tangled world.
The best kind of tale that will make you both smile and sigh, and occasionally wipe a stray tear.

A young girl taking on the cares of the world as if they were her own.
A broken man, clutching his dying wife with gnarled hands and a broken mind.
The bargain of a lifetime and a love to make a heart sing.

This is my favourite fae series ever - dark, twisted and yet so very beautiful; violent and deadly but also full of gentleness and enchanting!
And If you're also a fan of all things Fae, you have got to give it a try!
I bet you'll also love it just as much as I did!

Happy reading everyone
and remember

This series is one tense, wild ride, but this book brings it to an action-packed, but satisfying conclusion! While I guessed (partly) how the twist ending would happen, I was glad to be right!

Will I read more books by this author if they have any? Yes! Amazing author :D

~Thoughts~
OH. MY. GOSH. I finished?! Really?! Noooo! I don’t want it to be over. It did feel a bit repetitive at times, but this series is a new favorite. I am so sad it's over. I can’t even tell you. I loved it, and it trapped me. I was in the Cage of Souls and was released only when the epilogue of book five came, not when it broke. Battling Fae while falling for one is not something you get over quickly, I can say that much.
P.S. the name Scouvrel is amazing :D
–Quotes–
I should be getting used to people wanting to see me dead, but somehow, I just never did.

I couldn’t leave Scouvrel to his fate. When I’d needed him, he’d done whatever he had to do to be there for me.

But it was no use. This was my road to walk. I could only walk it alone.
“I love you, Finmark Thorne,” I said, barely blinking back tears as I leaned close and kissed his ragged lips goodbye. I wouldn’t trade my own happiness for a chance to offer him his.

“She was the Substitute for your sister. But not just anyone could be that Substitute. There has to be blood,” he said, cutting his palm on his blade and letting it drip on the rock below. “And it has to be the right blood. My blood for yours, daughter. My death for yours.”

“It’s what fathers are for, Allie. We protect our children. We provide for them. And if what you need is a Substitute, then that is what you shall have. It’s why I got my sanity back in the first place, I think.” He put a hand awkwardly to my cheek. He’d never been one for acts of affection. “Think of me on a crisp morning when the deer are in the rut and the bucks are out there fighting. Think of me when your arrow flies sure and true.”

We sped across man-eating plants, and poisonous swamps, and ragged unicorns, and many-teethed creatures. When we left, they were no longer monsters. We sped across the Faewald and as we bathed the land it began to melt into the mortal world, as if the two worlds were becoming one. I saw the Smoke Falls and my golem army around the stone circle in the same place. Before my eyes, the golems became living flesh, letting out a cheer that pierced my heart with its sweetness.

“If you have to bargain for this honeymoon,” I said dryly, “then I shudder to think what it entails.”
Maybe my father was right. Never was a big word. Forever was a long time. Perhaps, set in stone, my sister would find a way back to peace and kindness. Perhaps her story wasn’t over yet.

“Then this great artist will get to hear me tell the tale of how he crawled on his belly to get the last romance novel of the series he was reading,” I said dryly.

But he was right, any child he made would be more beautiful, more troublesome, and more clever than I could even imagine. I couldn’t wait to meet that child for myself.

Because there’s always hope.
And despite everything, I still haven’t lost hope for my twin sister.

The action and trickery and magic and suspense never stop, not until the very last page of this final installment in the Tangled Fae series. Armies are clashing, Allie is both Hunter and hunted, Scouvrel may or may not be dead, mortals are becoming tangled as Fae, and somehow, Balance must be found. Or is it Justice? Or Forgiveness? Which is the most important to realize in the end? Allie is still running headlong into danger as she tries to save both worlds, mortal and Fae, carried forward by her half-formed plans as they fall apart around her and her determination to do what is right. But if it means sacrificing herself, will she be able to do it? If you thought the Faewald and its magic were done with its surprises, grab on to your golems, as there are even more surprises and revelations here.
I enjoy how tenacious Allie is, no matter how dire her situation. She refuses to be cowed or held back from doing what she feels she must do, even when it means holding back from what she wants to do. She does her best to keep her own agency in this book, which is not always easy when you’re in a prophecy which everyone seems to want to pull in towards their own designs. I was glad that she was also finally admitting, and not just to herself, her feelings for Scouvrel. I also enjoyed all the tangled threads twisting and turning and straightening and tightening throughout the story, though there were a few elements which seemed a bit too convenient for the plot’s sake. Such as the Kinslayer’s assertion, Hunter and Genda’s memories, and how much Scouvrel especially knew about the way the magic of the Faewald works to know how things were going to go. So, while this book is a fitting conclusion and does a great job of giving us action and characters coming into their own, I distinctly felt like it was not quite as tight in adhering to the lore and magic we’ve come to see more and more of as I would expect. Some things were kept up, others made a return after a long absence, while others seemed to be conveniently ignored or minimized for the sake of the plot going where it needed to go. At any rate, it was fun, it was satisfying, it had me laughing any number of times (most of which were due to Scouvrel – let’s face it, he’s amazing!), and I thoroughly enjoyed my time in this tangled web of love, betrayal, sacrifice, danger, forgiveness, and possibly above all, hope.

I received a free eARC in exchange for an honest review. This has not affected the contents of my review or rating.

Now that the book has been out in the world for a couple of days, I'm going to add a couple extra "thinking out loud"-type of comments based on the contents of the ARC ebook, under the spoiler because, well, spoilers! Feel free to chime in with your thoughts on the matters - I'd love to hear what you think!

“Then you see your own secrets – which might be even worse. The things we hide from ourselves are hidden for a reason,” she said with a laugh. –page 27

It was so like my Fae husband to take even this with calm. Perhaps he was pleased that at least his suffering was on display. He was not the kind who enjoyed suffering in silence. He would want someone to know and appreciate his every agony. – page 47

A Spectacle should be an art in pain. A long, sumptuous feast on the dismantling of the victim’s spirit. It should involve the delight of surprise, the hiss of symmetry, the cry of exhultation [sic] as the pieces slide together and the grand theme is revealed. It should utterly ruin every shred of hope, every scrap of humanity, every whisper of decency. In short, it should be creative. But you torture me most with boredom. – page 49

If there was one thing I’d learned in life, it was that no one was coming to save you. You either figured things out yourself or you died, and that was that. – page 79

This was terrible for his arrogance. He was going to be insufferable after this. Even more than usual. – page 94

“You can’t make choices for other people. You can’t do the right thing for them. You can’t drag them into what is good. You can only try. – page 104

“None of us leaves this life uninjured, daughter. The question is never if you will bear wounds. The question is only which wounds you will bear and how well you will endure them.” – page 106

[…] That’s how the Fae started, too.”
   “How?”
“The thought that you’re better than other people is that first thread. And then it grows and twists into hatred and lies, selfishness and indifference. And soon, that twisted mess is all you are. And what can save you from that?” – page 134

Maybe the best kind of magic was the magic of the ordinary extraordinary things. – page 143

The feels!!! Sarah has done a tremendous job of concluding this series with this last book.
The ups and downs for Allie, the twists and turns on almost every page, detailed descriptions of characters and both the mortal world and the faewald keep you flipping pages just to see what happens to Allie and Scouvrel next!
Mishaps, horrors, family, friends, love and hate in abundance this last book wraps up the Tangled Fae books wonderfully but still manages to leave you with hopes of a sequel!

This series in which the Fae have been portrayed as never before, has really grown on me and I know I am going to miss the characters and the craziness of the Faewald after this ending. We catch up with Allie who is fighting battles on so many fronts at once, previously she had her mother lying injured waiting to be saved, her father and sister unconscious in the cave, an army of golems running amok in the forest waiting for her orders and Scouvrel stolen by the Kinslayer and in desperate need of her help. Allie needed to keep her wits about her and prioritise. She finds herself hopping between the mortal realm and the Faewald, as she is caught between her two lives, that as a mortal hunter and that as the balance and wife of Scouvrel over in the fae world, torn about where her loyalty and sacrifice should lie. Was it to her father who hated the fae, or to Finmark her husband, who she had grown to love so much that she could no longer imagine life without him in it. This book is a heart stopper and gives us the excellent ending I am sure all readers following this series have been hoping for. If anyone could tackle the troubles on both fronts it's our courageous heroine who never knew when to quit, at least not before her battles where won and everyone has been straightened out and untangled.

Utterly fantastic and thrilling conclusion to a phenomenal series!

WOW! This was one intense, suspenseful, twisted conclusion to what has been an epic fantasy series! Filled to the brim with action, suspense, trickery, magic and a whole lot of murder and mayhem that will keep you on the edge of your seat captivated and highly entertained until the very end.

Allie is finally the kickass hunter that she is meant to be. She knows what she wants, who to fight for and who she loves but it takes a lot of twists and deception for her to get there. Scouvrel is still the trickster that Allie fell in love with and together they make a formidable pair. Allie and Scouvrel's story is gut wrenching at times but also filled with passion and laughter. These two really are a remarkable pair together!

"If there was one thing I’d learned in life, it was that no one was coming to save you. You either figured things out yourself or you died, and that was that."

“You should think about whether you can survive it...Sometimes you can love things that are wrong. If you’re wise, you’ll find a way to walk away from them. Otherwise, they’ll kill you.”

I absolutely loved the conclusion to this series. It gives us readers everything we were hoping for and more. I enjoyed every second of this intense world filled with murder and mayhem, and love and sacrifice! Such a phenomenal series!

I thought this series wrapped up nicely and it did feel like an open ending so the author can re-visit the world with a new spin off series if she was inspired to write what happens next. I felt sad that it was ending and still have a few questions but they aren't NEED to know but more, curious to know. I thought this series was written really well and I am excited to pick up Sarah K.L. Wilson's other books series.

I loved listening to the series via Audible. The narrator was great and I really enjoyed listening to her read. I loved the characters and felt like I was clinging to their world, sinking into it and experiencing it. This author knows how to make you feel like you are apart of the world she is building rather than just making it feel like you're being read a story. Sure it wasn't perfect but I am happy to overlook the few flaws I noticed because I was happily wrapped up in Allie's world. It was an interesting take on fae and how they came to be. I appreciated how detailed it was and felt like I had a good understanding about their predicament by the last page.

Overall I would highly recommend this series because I know that I'll be coming back for a re-read at some point. A+

Good grief what a finale!! You won’t have time to take a breather as Sarah.K.L.Wilson packs in every possible complication & quandary before Allie’s every step. How can she conquer so much evil in so many people and places? How can or will she ever get her happy ending, when so much grief faces her if stops to look, therefore she has to constantly think, I will face it later there’s no time today. Once all she wanted was to save the mortal world, destroying the Faeworld in the process but maybe, just maybe she is meant to believe the phrophecies? This will keep you enthralled, fascinated and totally immersed as you hang onto every word. One thing for sure your time will be highjacked disappearing into the ether.A fantastic conclusion culmination to a creative series, that totally captured my imagination in every book, chapter and word. I can’t wait for the next series Sarah.K.L.Wilson releases as this has certainly wet my appetite for more of her creativity to take me away from reality.

This has been just an amazing series. The characters never cease to surprise me. This is the last in the series and it didn't disappoint. The characters have grown so much through this series. Some were good and some just evil to the core. But alas, every story has to have a villian. Hulana was a perfect Villain. Her hatred for her sister and parents was so fierce. Allie & Scoveril made an awesome pair. Both clever, tricky & devoted to each other. They fought Hulana every step of the way. And through the whole ordeal, Allie's resolve to save the humans never waivered. She also could see not all fae were horrible. She had a rough journey and with the army she formed, she was determined to defeat her sister. I loved this series and am kind of sad it's over. I loved the snarky humor and surprises along the way.

Solid series, and I think one of my favorite fae books. I’m so glad I gave this series a shot. I wasn’t a fan of the author’s other fae series, mainly because of the main heroine in it annoyed me with her choices, so I was worried that the same would happen here. But I thought Allie was great. I loved that she never gave up. There were a few times that I got frustrated with her, not enough that I didn’t still enjoy the series.

Scourvel is my all time favorite.

Spoiler coming: I took a star off because i wanted a bit more of an epilogue. Is Scourvel still immortal? How’s that gonna work out for their relationship. Is he gonna be all young, and Allie be old and wrinkly? Happy for now endings always make me feel kinda blah so that’s why only 4 stars. But this is definitely a reread series, and the audiobook version has all the books together, so I loved that!

One of the reasons I stopped reading christian fiction was that I found the preaching in those books more shallow than the subtle themes woven throughout books like this one.
Throughout the last 2 or 3 books, the themes of forgiveness, redemption, and sacrifice have slowly made their appearance. Though none of the characters come close to being a picture of Christ, the image of death and sacrifice being necessary in order to make tangled, twisted things straight could not be clearer. Because of the imagery, this was quite possibly my favorite of the series. The bittersweetness of this one is my favorite.
Now! I'm off to try and choose which of Sarah K. L. Wilson's other series to start. Wish me luck because they all look amazing.

Just finished the last page and... is this a theme for this author? I just didn't know? Are all her endings bittersweet? It still qualifies as Happily Ever After, but it's left me feeling a bit hollow. I want to read more of Wilson's books, but now I'm worried they'll all leave me bereft. 😬

Her ability to weave twists and turns I didn't see coming is impressive, her slow burn romance is beyond sweet, and her characters are so very alive. Sarah is an insanely talented writer and I really, highly suggest Tangled Fae for any and all fantasy lovers.

But-- while Allie and Scouvrel did indeed get the ending I'd hoped for, it wasn't as euphorically happy as I wanted, so this series won't make it onto my favorites shelf, but it almost did... almost.

Well I finally made it to the end. Not gonna lie I was a little bit reticent to start this book, It was the moment when it all could be made right or fail miserably. I think this book does the former. While I'll be the first to say that this is in no way the perfect series, it has and enticing enough plot that kept me going in the beginning and a wonderful romance that gave me all the tingles. So I can be forgiving at those faults in regards the amount of pleasure I got from this. If I were to pinpoint i think we could have done with a little more growth for Ally. Another thing that was annoying was how she discovered things that were kind of essential at the exact moment they were needed. Can't wait to read another series from this author and find out if I liked them as much!!

I hated the ending of this series. I was not a fan of how it all came together too perfectly. And it also felt too sudden considering how long Allie was trying to avoid it in the other books.

In some video games, there are weapons/spells/items that break the game, making it too easy or impossible to die. This is kind of how I felt about Allie's three magical items, the sword, bow, axe handle, and cage. She had too many possibilities. Too many times she was able to conveniently escape due to them. And it seems whenever they were taken away, they would return to her too quickly. The book would have been a lot more interesting without those, especially the cage. I kind of wanted to roll my eyes at the number of times she used it against those she was fighting against.

Overall, a satisfactory conclusion to the series. I enjoyed the plot and the way the author effectively wrote a true fae story, with bargains and tricks and magic and all that good stuff.

Scourval/Finmark was a great hero and Allie was a great heroine and I was satisfied with their relationship.

Honestly, the only thing I dislike is Allie still holding onto some hope that one day Hulanna would change. She was horrible, I'd probably have shattered her stone visage and called it good.

Definietly recommend the series as a KU borrow! The price to buy them is really steep for how short they are (I finished 3/5 of the books in a single day), but they're still very good reads.

LOVED!

Tangled Fae seires is definitely my top 4 favourite book seires I have every read. I could not put them down and read them late in the nights. They were addictive, intriguing, adventurous and dangerous. Loved the twisted and gruesome fae and faewald. The friendship nightmare and Scouvrel have and there character traits. Scouvrel that deceiving, tricky, violent minded fae, I will forever love! The songs and tales of the faewald were great! Everything from book 1 to 5 was amazing and they will forever be in my heart and mind.

With engaging characters and a pace that doesn't let up, the storytelling is on par with the previous installments.

I enjoyed how the book explored deep themes like redemption without getting the least bit preachy.

The content is not suitable for children, but if you've read the rest of the series leading up to this, that comes as no surprise. Although there is some sex, it is not explicit, and .

All in all, Fae Conqueror wraps up the series in a satisfying way.

I cannot express how much I love this series. I felt a spectrum of emotions that I never thought a singular series of books could procure. And Scouvrel’s absolute adoration of Allie was so gosh darn Fae & truthful that my heart squeezed every time he appeared.

I read all these books online, but ordered the paperbacks. I will most certainly begin to reread the entire series upon their arrival.

(One thing I wish — that there was a longer epilogue. I wanted to know so much more than was written).

Allie and Scouvrel dance a macabre dance with the fate of the mortal and Fae worlds hanging in the balance. Like Book 4, this is a non-stop busy story. Definitely not a solo story. But, I feel that if you enjoyed Book 4, then you will enjoy this one as well.

Action-packed. Easy-to-read. Entertaining. Happily Ever After. Haunting. Scary. Tragic. Twisted. Unpredictable. Whimsical. Witty. Wonderful characters.

Speechless

After reading the entire series, I knew I had to leave a review. The entire series, and this last book in particular, made me laugh, cry, and even angry. It was a spectacular story of love, sacrifice, and hope. What an amazing book. It was not just another story but a series that touched my heart. Bravo to you Sarah K. L. Wi!son! You have out done yourself. Thank you for such an amazing book. Farewell Allie, Scouvrel, Hunter, Genda, Rocky, and even Hulanna.

Finally, managed to get to the end of this wonderful story. As with the rest of the series , it was an exciting journey with lots of twists and turns. I will certainly miss the characters. It is refreshing to experience a series, be it fantasy or any other genre, that leaves a smile on your face and a lightness in your heart.
I feel better for having shared this journey and I hope others do too.

Thanks Sarah.
