This is how an historical investigation should look like! The author is embarking on a committed debunking of all the myths about Hitler's death - better say, survival - some of which can be politically explained, namely those launched by the massive Soviet propaganda.

Jochimsthaler bases his approach on numerous testimonies - mostly collected during Soviet interrogations - of witnesses from the Fuhrer's bunker in the last days of his existence. At the same time, the author's approach is also a useful and welcome demonstration of what it means to comment on different interpretations of the same historical subject, so the reader can draw conclusions about the most credible and close-to-historical-truth ones. Also worthy of mention is the alert style, similar to a journalistic-detective investigation, through which the German historian manages to keep the reader permanently connected to his narrative.

All in all, an extraordinary history study, that benefits from a balanced approach, a meticulous research and a very good writing.

THE LAST DAYS OF HITLER:THE LEGENDS THE EVIDENCE THE TRUTH BY ANTON JOACHIMSTHALER, was one of the most thorough investigational books I have read to date. The book tells the reader very clearly what happened during the final days of Hitlers life. Complete with quotes from the people closest to him, including the very people who heard the fatal moments and were the ones who swore they burned and buried Hitler.

One of the most complete and compact books on Hitlers last days I've read .

The most authoritative, detailed, precise (minute chronology with dates and hours of events) and factual account of the last days in the bunker. The author also provides a forensic analysis of the suicides of Hitler and Eva Braun.

O carte interesanta, desi totul se învârte in jurul aceluiasi lucru, in general multe păreri si declaratii...

I had trouble with the first chapter, as he bogged down in details that struck me (and still do) as unimportant, but as the book unfolded it became completely harrowing. I quarrel with his rather laissez-faire organization, but not enough to stop me from recommending the book. It seems to me that no one has been more exhaustive in tracking down every conceivable scrap of evidence that exists about Hitler's sorry end.

This was a great read. The research is extensive and loads of details about Hitlers end in his bunker. If anything its almost too extensive as there are loads of info about his dental work and the thickness of the walls of the bunker! A very thorough read that really makes you feel like you are there in the bunker with Hitler up until his end.

Not so much an accounting of Hitler's last days as it is a rigorous (but argumentative) examination of the evidence and testimonies concerning Hitler's death, and a thorough debunking of the many Hitler escape/survival myths.
