The Hero is a bit rough around the Edges!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: ❤️💙💜🖤
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌎🌍🌏🌎
Character development: 👤👤👤👤

The setting: Philadelphia

The Hero: Leonid – He and his crew want to take over the city and make it a better place, but first they have to take apart the Volkov crime syndicate. Leo is part of a new kind of Gangster which is a brotherhood of sorts but of people from different families having the same way of thinking. Leo was not in the original group of guys so he got some heat for that, but the leader Hedeon saw something in Leo and brought him in.

The heroine: Robin Volkov – her uncle Maksim is the head of the Volkov family. She was always treated poorly because she is considered a half-breed. Meaning her mother was British while everyone else in the family was full blooded Russian.

The Love Story: Robin lived with her cousin Vlas who was Maksim’s son. Vlas was a drunk and a drug addict, so she was a babysitter of sorts. Robin was home when Leo and his partner broke in and murdered Vlas in order to start a war with the Volkov’s. Leo decided to keep Robin alive in case she had information that could help them.

Leonid is a different kind of gangster than we usually see in Romance novels. He is not in charge of the crew, he is not a millionaire or billionaire, though he does seem to have enough money that he doesn’t worry about an extended stay at a posh hotel. Leo never graduated high school, though he has quite a bit of street smarts. He is thoughtful and plans out each step and researches his jobs before going out and getting into something he might not be prepared for.

I actually liked that he was a bit rough around the edges and not the standard billionaire or Mafia don that is usually in romance novels. He was totally hot and I liked the way he treated Robin. There were a few quite steamy scenes. He knows when to be rough and when to be gentle. He was protective of her as well. Very good book overall, I just wish there was a bit more background information.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Leonid And Robin’s Story Is Dark And Violent And Opens With A Bang! Don't Forget To Download The Free Bonus Scene.

This is the sixth book in a series about the crime families of Philadelphia. The Leone Crime Family has been the centerpiece of the series, and although the series veers away from the family here, they remain a fixture of Philly’s underground. Fans will be happy to see a few familiar characters pop up. This book is a stand-alone, although reading the first five books does provide background information on the power struggle within the city.

The books thus far include: Obsessed with His Bride, Taken by Her Prince, Tempted by the Sinner, Protected by the Monster, Knocked Up by the Killer, and now Bend for Him. Dante from Obsessed with His Bride plays a small role here, as does Vincent from Tempted by the Sinner, but reading those books first is not at all necessary. Don’t’ forget to download the free bonus scene via the link at the end of the book!

From book one:

There had been trouble when the Chinese attempted to move in years ago, but a relative peace existed amongst the various criminal elements of Philadelphia since. The Russian Bratva have their own territory, but both Don Leone and Maksim Volkov know that peace is more profitable for both sides because war draws attention from the authorities. But tensions are ignited when a low-life from Dante’s territory foolishly pulls a robbery on one of Vlas Volkov’s clubs.

This is Dante and Aida’s story. Dante and Aida navigate their feelings while a new war brews with the Volkovs.

From book two:

Two years have passed since Dante won new territory – Gray’s Ferry and Eastwick – and selflessly proposed to Don Leone that Steven, his trusted Lieutenant and long time friend, be promoted to Capo. Don gave his blessing and gave Gray’s Ferry to Steven, who has since worked to build and strengthen his team to ensure his control. But the time has come for him to make a name for himself and show that he is a capable leader in his own right. He decides to take aim at the Celtic Club.

This is Steven and Colleen’s story. Steven and Colleen clash over family and loyalty while a new war brews with the Celtic Club.

In book three:

The story opens sometime after Steven and Colleen have married. The Russians remain weakened. Maksim Volkov, their leader, has a disgraced son living in Chicago. Their organization has lost territory. And now Maksim’s leadership is being challenged from within. One of his men has rebelled and the writing is on the wall. Don Leone sees a timely opportunity in his rival’s difficulties, and he calls home his son Vincent from New York, where he had been sent to establish a footing for the Leone Crime Family eight years ago. Don Leone enlists Vincent’s help in a proposed alliance with the Russians. It is the Don’s belief that such an alliance will cement his and Maksim’s mutual power. By helping Maksim retain power, it helps the Leone Family because if the Russians fold and the Leone Family assumes too much power, it invites increased attention from the authorities. A little rivalry is better in the long run. Vincent disagrees with his father, as usual. He feels that his father is underestimating he Russians. There is nothing to prevent them from regrouping and starting a war down the road, but at age seventy, perhaps the Don isn’t terribly concerned about that eventuality.

This is Vincent and Mona’s story. In this story, Don’ Leone’s son and future heir is introduced to the series, as is a small New York operation.

From book four:

Two years have passed since the Jalisco were weakened, but they still won’t leave Philly. Angered about the Leone Family’s alliance with the Russians and being replaced with Steven’s supplier out of New York, they don’t want to give up. And as the most powerful Mexican cartel south of the border, they have the resources to continuously send in replacements. They are angry and desperate at this point. If they don’t get a win soon, they will need to pack up and leave for good.

Clair hates the mafia. Her father was the brother of Don Leone of Philadelphia, while her mother comes from the Riva family of Chicago. Her mother’s estranged brother Fazio has been a major underboss in Chicago for years. That is, until now. Clair finds her self sequestered in a Leone Family safe house against her will when her Uncle Fazio dies and decides to leave his millions and his Chicago properties to her. And according to Don Leone, that makes her a target of the Jalisco. Luca, Lieutenant for Capo Steven Bianco, is asked by Don Leone to watch over Clair until legal matters are settled.

This is Luca and Clair’s story. Their romance is about a mafia heiress and the lieutenant assigned to keep her out of danger.

From book five:

Things haven’t been going well for Don Leone as of late. His mansion was shot up and half burned down, and the reconstruction is a huge mess. To top it all off, there is a new player in town and Don Leone is not happy. Don Borghi is a famous mob name in New York, but he has decided to make Philadelphia his new home. He has a daughter in town that happens to be unprotected – an easy target and the perfect warning to keep Borghi in check. Nothing personal – just business. Dante, who now runs nearly all of west Philly, has been ordered to facilitate the transaction. As a made man, he follows orders. The parties finally come to an agreement in which Don Borghi has permission to take Eastwick and use the Leones’ cartel contact, and they agree to a profit-sharing scheme that keeps everyone happy.

This is Tanner and Elise’s story. Hitman Tanner and Elise Borghi cross paths on the brink of a new turf war in Philly as Don Borghi intends to make inroads on Don Leone’s territory.

In this book:

Don Leone’s death a couple years ago brought change to Philadelphia. The Leone Family is moving. The old guard figures largely left town, relocating to the Chicago property that was acquired from Clair in her inheritance. The new generation doesn’t have the same edge, though nobody should underestimate them. The pact with the Russians still holds, but the Leones had in essence been propping up Maksim Volkov so their absence has left him weakened and vulnerable once again. Splinter groups have left to create new crews and the writing is on the wall.

A new group of Russians has some lofty ideas about ruling Philadelphia. They have quietly built their operation for a decade, biding their time as they grow in power. They operate like a secret society. A man brilliant but violent man named Hedeon leads them on a need to know basis. If their plans succeed, territories and wars will be a thing of the past. The Leones and the Volkovs will be history. And they will operate all Philly’s illegal activity like a business, under one umbrella. Less profit, but also less violence. They don’t seem concerned about the violence it takes to get them there, though.

Robin Volkov, twenty-three, has always been treated like she is a burden to her family. Her father died. Her mother died too, but was not even Russian. She is a half-breed, and hence barely tolerated within the family. She works as the manager in a Volkov family diner. Her Uncle Maksim, the Russian Don, also pays her to babysit her cousin, Vlas. Vlas is in town and continues to be a disappointment to his father. He had never been cut out for the life, and had become little more than a drunk. He is not a high value target, so Robin never expected to watch his assassination. She fully expected to be killed for witnessing the event, but the weird killer decided that just maybe she had value.

Leonid, thirty, has been working for Hedeon for a decade. He had been a high school dropout. Hedeon’s group came along and offered him direction and something steady in his life. It also gave him something to believe in – their vision for Philly. He is sometimes a loose cannon, which explains why he suddenly decides the girl needs to live. Certainly she has some value as the niece of Maksim Volkov. But when she continues to insist that her life is worth nothing, he has to convince her that she is wrong if he is going to keep her alive. Somewhere along the road he realizes that he has some real feelings for Robin, but keeping her safe proves to be a challenge.

Leo and Robin’s story is dark and violent and opens with a bang. Just as soon as Leo nudges Robin into believing that her life has value, circumstances take a turn. The landscape in Philadelphia is rapidly changing and trust is a problem. The couple must stay alive and win the war before they can even think about things like a future together. Leo gets sidetracked by his unexplainable obsession with Robin, yet his self-control and respect for her boundaries show real maturity. Despite his unpredictability, he is often very laid back and confident. His confidence helps Robin find her own voice, and she grows in strength and determination under his wing. Her self-esteem has been beaten down her entire life, but she finally embraces her anger towards her family and takes great strides toward self-discovery. Leonid and Robin eventually earn their happy ending.

Leo and his friends are an odd group. The inherent contradiction between their goals for the city and how they conduct themselves makes them a little hard to follow, but they don’t differ so much from so-called revolutionary groups that seek utopia via war. The secret nature of the organization and the limited personal contacts might have some short-term advantages, but the structure seems inherently week as well, since taking out a key player or two will leave the rest of the organization unstructured, like a chicken running around with its head cut off.

Leo and Robin are thrown into one dangerous situation after another, but their chemistry is obvious. Their story is nicely written and plot-driven. The plot is complex. The characters are nicely developed. The story is written first person. The POV alternates between Leo and Robin. I rate this book 4.5 stars.

This is the 1st story in this new Mafia Series - Bend For Him: Possessive Mafia Series where we get to meet Leo who is a member of this new style mafia and Robin who is at the wrong place and time. Robin Volkov is part Russian and is not treated nice or equally by her uncle who us in charge of the Russian mafia and we previously meet in the Leone series. Leo and his band of men are moving in on Volkov territory and taking their men out and when they go after the don’s son they find Robin his cousin and Leo keeps her as a hostage. Robin gives Leo a hard time trying to get away and when her uncle sends a man to kill her she sees things differently and offers to help Leo only if she earns a part of what they take. During all this Leo and Robin fight an undeniable attraction and Robin finds herself giving in and Leo enjoys getting her there! Robin knows more then she thought so and Leo uses the information to bring down the Volkov family and along the way they discover a traitor among them. Leo is a determined man who is protective of Robin and will do whatever is necessary to rid the Volkov’s to start running the Philadelphia area without violence. This is one action filled story with betrayal, violence, danger, romance and a new way of life! I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Leo and his group of men want to run Philadelphia as they see fit and give more back to the people. But first, they have to get rid of Maksim!! They start by reaching his nephew, but when Robin is there with her cousin Vlas, Leo decides to take her with them. He doesn't know what to do with her at first, but he wants to keep, protect and own her!! How much of a fight will she give him? Will she come around to his side?

Robin has been treated badly by her family her entire life because she is only half Russian. So when her Uncle pays her to keep an eye on Vlas, she does it. This leads to a wrong place, wrong time situation. She knows her Uncle doesn't care about her, but when Leo finds out, will he kill her anyway? Or can she help him take him out? Can she trust Leo after saving her life...twice?

This story has everything you need from good Mafia men, bad men, drama, mystery, suspense, violence, love, lust, romance, twists and turns and so much more. You will love this addition to the series!!! I received an ARC of this book from the author.

Something about Robin catches Leo's (Leonoid's) eye the moment he sees her, and he decides to save her from getting killed, so they just took out her cousin Vlas. She is a bit shell shocked as Leo drags her away from all she knows, and she tries to escape, but Leo doesn't want to let her go. Robin adjusts to her new circumstances, and starts to see Leo in a different light, after her family turns their back on her. Can this possibly work for them? Or will she just end up dead, from this new more violent life? I enjoyed this mob romance, both Leo and Robin were easy to like, Leo has more to him than just wanting to kill everyone, and wants to protect Robin. Robin deserves better than what her family did to her, and Leo seems to be just what she needs.

When Leo went to do his job no one was supposed to be there but the target. When he discovers that Robin is there he decides to take her versus killing her and that's where the fun begins. He thinks she should be worth something to her family. She doesn't and it turns out to be true. This story is set a few years in the future. If you have been reading the Leone Crime family series, the Don has passed and Vincent and Dante now run the family. Leo thinks he needs their support. Robin has had her own difficulties in life though and now is looking to get even. She also sees Leo's dark side, she also see a bit of light. This is a good mafia romance novel with lots of action and some good steam. It's an easy one-click.

Leo decides on his own instead of listening to a crew member about what to do with Robin after he killed her cousin in front of her during a job. Leo decides to save Robin's life and take her captive because she is worth more to him than dead plus, she is a beautiful woman. Robin not sure how she feels with no say so in the matter of what Leo decides. However, she is not upset about her cousin death like she thought since she has never been treated a part of the Volkov family especially after her father’s death. There is plenty of twist and dangerous situations that Robin will find herself in with Leo. Robin will have to choose if she ready to go against her family and help Leo and his crew in taking over the city. Will Leo keep Robin beside him or treat her the way her family had? I volunteer to read ARC for an honest review.

Scorching mafia romance! This is set some years after the last Leone Family book. The Russians are splintered and once group is looking to make a move. Leonid is sent to kill Maxim Volkov's son, not knowing that he has been living with his cousin. Robin is in shock when she see's her cousin executed, but when she comes around she realizes that she has been taken by the men who broker into her home. Leonid knows he shouldn't have taken her, but something inside him could not kill her, so now she is his responsibility. She keeps plotting ways to escape, until her own Uncle tries to have her killed. She knows there is chemistry between them, thought she fights that, she finally agrees to help them take down her Uncle. This is a fast paced, danger filled romance. Loved it!

Robin has a tough life as her family treat her badly, due to her mom having been British and her dad Russian. Robin’s uncle Maksim is the head of the Volkov crime family, and she is staying with his son who has alcohol and drug issues, and she is in the wrong place at the wrong time, and a couple of men break in and murder her cousin Vlas, but keep her alive in case she has information they need. Leonid / Leo has a crew which are on a mission to take down the Valkov’s and take over and make the city a better place to live in, and they are starting a war with the mafia. This is a well written flawless story which is dark, intense, violent, action packed, and is a steamy and all-consuming read. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend for all.

“Bend fo him” is interconnected to the Leone mafia crime family, the first in this new series and what a start, this is a fast action packed, some violence, lots of twists and turns steamy mafia romance that keeps you on the edge of your seat. As always it flows seamlessly an absolute page turner. Robin is a Volkov and Leo has been sent to kill her unruly drug addict cousin Vlas whom she has to baby sit, but it doesn’t go as planned and instead of Robin ending up as a bargaining chip she becomes the prey, but by who and why?? And why is Leo hell bent on saving her?? And are Leo’s bargaining negotiations going to save them both?? Can’t wait for the next in this series. I was given this as ARC by the author in exchange for a voluntary honest review which I was totally happy to provide.

Cool new series set a couple years after the last Leone crime family book (tanner/Elise). This new up and coming crime organization that’s more secret society than blood family. Leo is a member and sent to kill Vlas, Robins cousin. She get sucked into the drama. And switches teams when her family just up and throws her to the wolves. Leo saves her from death multiple times but when she sees her uncle maksims true colors she invests in his take down. Loved the old characters who appear in the story and the Easter egg comment pandemic about concrete in the foyer of the Leone compound left courtesy of Tanner. Haha. Good story, sexy times, dirty talk, drama, action.

In the intense and dangerous world of the Mafia Leonide wanted to make something better, safer for them all. In a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time Robin Volkov thought the end had come for her. But Leo’s protectiveness launched and all was not lost for her. Considered not worthy, despised by her Russian Mafia family and a target Robin and Leo had a mission of vengeance. Interesting how Leo’s group wanted a change but doing the same they were going against. Robin gains confidence under Leo’s wing. Anger, betrayal and violence stands in this story. Exciting, intense and full of heated passion scenes, dark emotions, strong characters, drama and suspense.

Bend for Him is the first book in BB Hamel’s Volkov Crime Family series. In this book, readers meet Robin Volkov and Leonid. She is a member of an opposing crime family that lost in a coup for leadership. Leonid is one of the leaders of one of the triumphant--a collective team of independent Volkov crime cells under the leadership of Hedeon. Destiny brings these two together as a settlement to two warring crime factions. Leonid killed her cousin and she was next, but he did not go through with it. Instead, he claims her as his. What does the future hold for these two? You must read this book to discover their plight?

Ms. Hamel writes another captivating romantic suspense. She embroils steamy romance, intrigue, and suspense into her plot. She skillfully employs literary devices, such as dialog, POV, backstory and flashbacks to captivate her readers’ attention. Her conversational and internal dialog is outstanding. She built suspense and tension through many rising action events. These scenes capture her readers’ attention. Nice job, Ms. Hamel!

CHANGES!! Leo gives into his visual carnal side on the store and things go left for him and Robin. For me, this is a dead giveaway that Leo's in over his head and attracted (dangerously) to Robin. Robin is smart but keeps taking dumb chances that irked me. Smh??? I'm amazed that Robin is surprised
her uncle wants her dead! She did a poor job babysitting his son, so why wouldn't he
want her dead??!! WTH? I liked that Robin has an awakening and chooses sides. I liked the way Don Leone was handled. Great conclusion with loads of drama, violence, and steamy times.

I thought that this was a really great book. I loved the action and drama this book offered. I really liked how Leo was not afraid to show Robin his dark side and was willing to show her not all of his life was death. Robin was a sassy badass heroine; I really liked her. Robin is able to embrace her darker side and falls for Leo. I really enjoyed Robin and Leo's connection. I can't wait to see what the rest of the series would be like.

Rise of a new generation
4.5
Very good mafia romance with an interesting evolution born from the mistakes of the Russian mafia family of the heroine Robin. She witnesses the murder of a family member by another group who then keeps her, and her family decides to have her killed. Her revenge spawns a bloodbath, with the help of the one who took her, Leonid.
The story is hot, full of twists and turns and quite unpredictable. This is a good start to this new criminals, with a good description of the evolution of the characters.

Great start to a New Series!

Let’s set the stage: We are still in Philadelphia. We are still dealing with the Mafia. We are still getting lots of steamy romance. We are still getting a HEA! That’s right! Ms. Hamel does it again. Hot mafia alpha male Leonid is part of a new mafia. And our heroine Robin is part of the old mafia. And the story builds the suspense. Ms. Hamel’s stories get better and better.

I did receive an advance copy for my honest review.

New crew coming up

Enjoyable, although I have a hard time believe the Leone family sort of abandoned Philly, especially if Vincent and Donte are still around. Other than that the premise that it's an up-and-coming group was good. I do wish one of these guys would carry something other than a Glock.. not my personal favorite. And an Uzi is incredibly inaccurate... Yes, that is personal experience as I had the opportunity to shoot a full-auto Uzi. Overall, an enjoyable book.

Robin Volkov never expected to witness her cousin's death at the hands of a handsome stranger, who would turn her world upside down. Leonid "Leo" didn't exactly picture saving a life when he met Robin but hey that's what happened. Now Leo is trying to keep Robin alive from her own family. Will Robin admit her attraction to Leo and mafia life? Can Leo keep Robin alive? Your answers await you in Bend For Him.

a better man for her

Bend For Him is book one in a brand new series (connected to the Leone Crime Family series- not completely sure the title of this series yet) by author B. B. Hamel. As all B.B. Hamel’s work this is outstanding. It’s gritty, dirty and seriously intense.

I received this book in advance for a voluntary honest review. Robyn and Leonid’s story is the story of a contract killer who saves a witness to one of his hits against his better judgment and his bosses wishes. Robyn doesn’t want to stay with Leo but when she’s attacked the tables turn and she wants vengeance. It’s a mafia love story with an HEA.

So wrongfully steamy

I loved this book! It was panty melting hot! I also loved the fact we got a little peak as some of the characters from past books! The story plot was so incredibly suspenseful while also being oh so freaking hot. BB Hamel has done it again with this book! Love love love!

The next mafia series

Robin is at the wrong place at the wrong time when Leonid and his partner come to kill her cousin. Now she’s his prisoner. He thinks she’s worth something to her family, but she knows better. Now what?

Leonid and his organization are trying to take down the local Russian mob. They feel they’ve outlived their time. Now that he has Robin, what is he going to do with her?

Robin and Leo....loved how they are enemies and then it changes to something Leo nor Robin saw coming. Their is a war brewing and Robin is caught in it whether she likes it or not. Leo is an alpha that doesnt think his heart can surface again. I loved the action, the betrayal, the lust, the love, and the comradery. Couldnt put the book down.

And it has a HEA

Unbelievable when you think about it,but this story has a happily ever after ending. There is a lot of suspense and you don't know what is going to happen next. The scenes are naughty and hot. You Can't help but fall in love with the main character although he is a criminal, he has principles. I recommend this story to the genre lovers.

Robin had always known she was the black sheep of the family. But when she gets kidnapped it's her own family that tries to kill her. The man that kidnapped her had also saved her life twice. Even though he's a ruthless killer he had a soft spot for her. Will she try to escape or will she choose to be on their side.

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book.

This is the first book in the Volkov Crime Family series, fast-paced and quick to read. Plenty of drama, action and intrigue. Leo saves Robin from being executed alongside her cousin, he takes her under his wing and the two get along well. Loved how Leo softens around Robin and she seems to grow stronger.
