They say opposites attract, that two disparate souls can come together to create a raging inferno of passion. When you’re talking about the Templar, though, those flames are far more likely to be used for burning witches at the stake.
So, of course, it would figure that a witch like me would go and marry one. Probably not my brightest move, but sometimes love is both blind and stupid. Even so, we’ve managed to enjoy five years of bliss, during a time when all supernatural power was banished from the world – leaving us nothing more than two fools in love.
But that all changed when the Source was reignited.
Now magic is back and so are the old rivalries. I still love my husband but I’m not sure I can trust him anymore. He’s on a quest to rid the world of evil and I fear that includes people like me. I’m willing to fight to save my marriage but, if love can’t conquer all, I might end up fighting for my life instead.
Rick Gualtieri loves to write adventure, mayhem, and snarky dialogue. His bestselling Tome of Bill series combines all of this into a world of supernatural danger with hard-hitting action and plenty of sharp-tongued geeky humor.
Rick lives alone in a dark, evil place called New Jersey with only his wife, three kids, and countless pets to both keep him company and constantly plot against him. When he's not busy monkey-clicking out words, he can typically be found jealously guarding his collection of vintage Transformers from all who would seek to defile them.
The Bill of the Dead Adventures series has been something I've greatly enjoyed. They've expanded a lot on Rick Gualtieri's minor characters that were somewhat overlooked in comparison to Bill himself. While none of them have been as entertaining as Sunset Strip about Sally the Vampire, they've given good insights into things like the Icon and the Wanderer. This one deals with an ex-Witch, an ex-Templar, and their marriage problems after both of them cease to be ex.
I really enjoyed this volume, more so than the others, because it deals with realistic marriage problems raised to fantastical levels by the setting. I actually want to see this story continued, especially with Veronica's feelings out in the air. It also has a solid story with the creation of a new monster-hunting order.
As usual a great and fun story. I can't get enough of anything Rick Gualtieri writes. They are interesting and funny and the characters are the best. Bill and his bunch are great but I also want more of Bent and the false Icon.
It was great to get to know some of the other players in this book series. It helps me understand better what their motivates are when they enter the stories.
