I am a retired Southwest Airlines pilot. My wife Paula and I, live with our Chihuahua, Gabe, in Mesa, Arizona in a 55+ Golf Resort even though we don't play golf. It affords my wife a very active lifestyle while I spend my time writing. As a child, I enjoyed going to the Saturday matinee and spending the day watching westerns and daydreaming about the old west. I shared a passion with one of my aunts and read every western I could get my hands on. John Wayne was my favorite actor and Louis L'Amour my favorite writer. I miss those days where the good guys win, they treat the ladies right, have honor and are trustworthy. So, in about 2014, I started writing my own westerns and became quite shocked that people enjoyed them. I am so thankful to those of you who read my books, take the time to write reviews and email me. John Wayne said it best when he said "without you, I wouldn't be here". Please accept my deepest appreciation.

Trials of a Mountain Man: Logan Mountain Man Western Series - Book 2 (A Logan Mountain Man Series) by Donald L. Robertson is a very well-written and enjoyable tale of a young mountain man who's very well on his way to making himself into a legend not only to his fellow trappers but to the whole of the states. He is a man who is loyal to those he calls friends and family and is respected by all including those who would consider him an enemy. He stands up for justice in the face of vile and despicable ruthless fellow trappers who when confronted lie and plead for their lives.
The native Indians also both respect him and honorably call him family and a member of their tribe and those who do not, respect his actions and bravery in the face of certain death. The Shoshone call him Igasho, Man Who Wanders, The Comanche have named him Pawnee Killer, and the Blackfoot have come to view him as a great worrior with the protection and power of the Great Spirit with him.
Floyd Logan views himself as blessed just being able to live his dreams of being in the Rocky Mountains, living the life of a trapper, with friends who have likewise morals. Floyd would do anything within his power to protect those who are friends, loved ones, children, the elderly, women, and those who cannot protect themselves from the evil men in this world.
The characters are well written and you will find yourself glued to the pages to see how Floyd, Kajika, Shorty, Morg, Leotie, and Mika survive abduction, abuse, and enslavement from both the Blackfoot Indians and that of ruthless hoods. This book is action-packed and thrilling and will keep you on your toes throughout and gives you a little look into what challenges were faced in the wilderness in the 1840's.
This is a great mountain man western novel and has just about something for all. You will not be disappointed in reading this second book in this series or the first book as well. I have already started the third book in this trilogy and can easily say that I would highly recommend this series to all.
Quotes:
"When the heart is involved, good decisions become even more difficult."
No difficulty in telling the good guys from the bad guys in Robertson's writing. Plenty of adventure and danger with a little romance added. Well written, easy to read novel.
The heart pumping action starts right off when 19yr old mountain man, Floyd Logan, comes face to face with a fierce big Grizzly and becomes gravely injured. An encounter with Shoshones will change his life forever.
Book 2, this is the perfect complement to the series taking place 3 yrs after Floyd has made the mountains his home.
Plenty of gut wrenching action, adventure, and great story telling in this superbly written western.
This was a great story about Floyd Logan who lived with his shoshonie wife and her son in the Rocky Mountains. It is a continuation of book one, Soul Of A Mountain Man which also was an excellent story! It was well written and full of action and is well worth reading. I would highly recommend it!
The first two books in the Logan Mountain Man Series have been very hard for me to put down when I start reading each night. I'm losing precious sleep each night following the exploits of young Fl-oyd Logan as he lives out his lifelong dream of being an authentic 'mountain man out West' back in 1833 through 1840! Donald Robertson write in a style that has taken me on Floyd's journey from Tennessee to Texas to the land of the Shoshone in the untamed wild mountains out West. Book 3 awaits my continued adventures with Floyd as he pays a visit back to his childhood home and family in Tennessee... before he returns to his Shoshone family and home in his beloved mountain country out west...proving his 'mountain man mettle...' I'm enjoying this series!
Another great story set in the fur trapping period of the intermountian west. A story was wide and bold as the western skies and full of adventure. A good book if you are looking for a great escape into the western wilderness. reading this made me miss the mountians and valleys of Wyoming and Montana. Floyd Logan finds himself allied with the Shoesone tribe and seeks to rescue the woman he loves with his new allies from the Blackfeet who have abducted her. If you like old fashing big scale wildness adventure you can't go wrong here.
Floyd Logan is attacked by a bear while trapping in San Juan Mountains. Shoshone warriors witness Floyd’s heroic struggle with a beast and take him to their village where he receives treatment for his wounds. The night before Floyd’s departure Blackfoot Indians steal Shoshone horses and capture Leotie who cared for Floyd during his recovery. After recovering the horses Floyd embarks on a dangerous journey to save Leotie and her son Mika. After recovering Leotie, they travel 400 miles north to Blackfoot country to retrieve Mika. The relationship between Floyd and Leotie is romanticized

Another excellent book by one of my favorite authors
Donald Robertson is one of my three favorite authors. This book confirms why I like his books so much. Believable characters who do what is right. I so enjoy reading his books because he has good characters and believable plots where the protagonists are not supermen, but people that you can believe. My only complaint is that he doesn't write fast enough.
I have really enjoyed all of the writings of Donald Robertson! The Logan Family Western series has been especially enjoyable, and I look forward to read many more. This volume is the second volume about the Floyd Logan, and I really have enjoyed these last two books. BUT, as much as I enjoyed them, I like the ones about Josh, Callum, and Will the most. I look forward to more stories about the Logan family, and I would recommend them to any reader that likes westerns!
Book 2 mention the Medicine Wheel located in northern Wyoming just south of Montana, I knew the Sioux claimed it but wasn't aware the Shoshone it also. Science hasn't been able to date it, except is 400 plus years old. Due to it's extreme elevation can only access during warmer months.
Mr. Robertson continues to turn out enjoyable stories that are always a good read. The characters are true to life and well developed. Looking forward to the next book in this saga.
The young man grows up having many adventures, makes a legend of himself and gets ready to head home. Highly recommended for all adult and teenage readers
This book was the absolute best one of the Logan Family / Floyd, Mountain Man series. So full of action that it was like riding a roller coaster, never knowing what would happen next. Excellent book!
Looking forward to the next one in this series. Keep up the good work! An excellent read. Easy to get pulled into the story. And that, is what a good book is all about!!
A story well told. Yet in reading what happened in the past is still happening in our time in different ways. There are still "tribes" fighting others because they are better or smarter.
This book was as much a page turner as the first book! Some of this book was close to others I have read, but, it had different twists. I am really looking forward to the next episode!
Sadly history teaches us the fate of not only the Mountain Men but the native Americans. Today their numbers are small and their land has been taken from them. The author takes us back to a time before this happened. It is a more realistic picture of the tribal warfare than the majority of us “white men” are aware of. Well written!
This is not the typical Western book. Great mix of characters and lots of surprises. Even better there is actually a real epilogue, not the BS where we have to give our email and join a mailing list so we can read the remainder of the book. GOOD WORK Mr. Robertson!!
The Logan family books just keep getting better. The Floyd Logan mountain man books are my favorite so far; I can’t wait for the 3rd book of this series! Kudos to Donald Robinson for his great storytelling and compelling characters.
While Jeb is off to sell their furs, Logan manages to get attacked by a huge grizzly bear. While he was able to kill the bear, the bear would have also killed him had he not been discovered by the Shoshone. Rcovering in their camp, he learns their language and traditions. The tranquility is interupted when the Blackfoot tribe attacks. The Shoshone were prepared but their enemy escapes with a young widow woman and her son. Logan had developed feelings for them and there is no stopping him going after them. Lots of trials to overcome.
Floyd gets hit in the head with a war club and miraculously survives. Though concussed ...again, shortly after makes quite the escape as if the concussion never happened. No mere mortal could do that! I enjoy this series and will read the next one. But realistically , this is a fantasy western.
This book is much better than book one. It flowed better and was very interesting. Great characters and story line. I gave it five stars because of this.
This was a really great read and had lots of action to the saga. This author is able to make one start reading and keep reading till you finish the book. What a great author!!
Flo-yd Logan is the man we all wish to be. A great quick read, clean and without unnecessary language. Would be an excellent book for a young adult as well as an adult.
