i loved the way he made me feel. the way he warmed my insides and made my lady parts drum. i loved the way he looked at me, as if I was the best thing that God had created. and, just for him. his round eyes and solid frame was a source of inspiration. i found myself scribbling his features into my pieces. one after the other. stroking my canvas as I imagined he'd stroke me. and, when he finally did, we'd make one unique piece.

Grey does not play fair!!! I meannnnnn why was this the sweetest yet emotionally charged story!! Ugh!!! 🥰🤧😪
Sew was a 29 year old that was knocked off her square when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. After a Mastectomy and an official cancer free diagnosis she lives a life full of gratitude and thanks knowing that at any moment things can change. She’s living her best life and is content with being alone. In fact she rejects love at all costs because she is fearful of what her cancer potentially returning can do to a budding relationship.
All this comes into question when a 300lb 6ft 5 all muscle KING named Umber moves in next door and challenges her to let love into her heart!! Whew this man this man!! This insta love was sweet and refreshing and while they were met with their fair share of challenges Umber was determined to stop at nothing to make Sew his!
Sew was scared of love....Life had humbled her in a way that she wouldn't wish on anyone. Life made her fear that she would be a burden to someone that loved her, so she chose not to try...well she tried not to. Until the house next door to her, which had been vacant for years had a new owner. Out the gate she found herself intrigued by this thick, beautiful, dark chocolate man. Umber was at a transitioning point in life and was now living a safer more carefree life, which is what led him to the suburbs. He too found himself intrigued by his neighbor. She had an amazing hour glass figure and was a natural beauty with a calm spirit to match. While Sew was hesitant due to life, Umber was full speed ahead. He knew he wanted her and he did all of the things to make sure he got what he wanted. A sweet short read.
Grey is good at frustrating you but bringing you back to life with understanding and love. She has a painful history and was going to let that stop her from experiencing Umber (The Neighbor). I’m so glad Umber didn’t give up on her and revealed his secrets to her to get her to also open up. Also Grey is going to give a good spicy scene! Cause the scenes by the window?! Whew!
I try not to rate novellas because they usually just jump right into the story so you don’t really get to know a lot about the characters so an actual rating in my opinion wouldn’t be fair. However, I really enjoyed this one. I wanted to get a taste for Grey Huffington before I read anything else and this story between Umber and Sew was cute and spicy-ish🥰🌶️. If you’re looking for a super short read to pass the time this could be the one for you.
Generous rating honestly. Novellas usually pull me out of a reading slump and I regret reading this one. By the time we reached the resolution of the story… it was over 😀 I understand it’s only about 80 pages but can I at least enjoy a few scenes of them together. I get why the FMC is scared of committing but the hypocrisy was so annoying. Not her writing him off bc he was keeping secrets and that was apparently such a deal breaker for her… while she’s keeping her own secret… right. And then her deciding that nobody could possibly understand what she’s going through (not even her own best friend) bc they haven’t experienced her specific situation. Just for the MMC to say actually I have… 29 year old woman btw. You can’t be that dense. So I hated that. And then the spice was not doing it for me. This needed to be just a tad bit longer to work, amongst other things.
3.75⭐️ This book was short and sweet. I’m normally a novella girl that doesn’t want more, but these characters were both so complex it would’ve be nice for a little more.
"Muse" by Grey Huffington delivered far more than I expected. Initially seeking a brief, spicy novella, I was surprisingly moved by its deep emotional layers. The narrative profoundly resonated with me, especially Sew’s reluctance to enter a relationship due to her fear of causing future grief. Umber's unwavering support and reassurance in face of her fears highlighted a beautiful, evolving romance. This novella packed a punch, delivering a poignant and satisfying story in just a short space. I am eagerly hoping for a sequel to catch up with this charming couple's journey.
This was a quick read. Sew was playing so hard to get because she was afraid of her past & Umber didn’t care about none of that. He knew exactly what to expect & how to maneuver that situation. I’m sooooooo glad this ended the way it did, I did want just a little more.
Favorite Quote- “If there was nothing else that I loved about him, it was his ability to reassure me along the way. Every day, he told me that I was pretty and showed me that I was loved.”
a woman who has sworn off love & feels like she doesn’t deserve it X a man who knows exactly what he wants & is ready to give HER what she deserves 🥲🥲🥲❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹 it’s instalove but it packed a lot into 94 pages and it left me wanting more!
the first word that comes to mind is beautiful. Like this is a story that gives you all the feels.
Sew and Umber were an instalove match made in heaven! Sew’s fear to live was completely justified but I’m so glad she let Umber knock those walls down - both ways, figuratively and literally!
Grey delivers every single time! This was such a beautiful short read.
My Fav Part🤎: every time the window was mentioned for sure.
A very short and cute read but I wanted a bit more background knowledge from Umber’s character. I do feel like a bit more could have been added to the storyline but for 8 chapters it’ll do.
The idea of Muse drew me in initially but it sort of fell flat for me for some reason. I liked the constant resistance Sew put up against Umber for the whole novella instead of it being instant romance/sex from jump. I wanted to know more about Umber from his point of view. The fact that he was part of a cartel was saved a bit too late and seemed glazed over but I guess it did answer the question of why he was so big on privacy in the beginning. One more scene with Mya would’ve been cool, too. I’d recommend Muse just as a simple quick read in between reads. It was just okay for me.

Sew and Umber are new neighbors and feeling a little more than neighborly. But Sew is an artist whose cancer is in remission and she doesn't want to subject a new love to heartache if it returns. So she's resigned to being alone. But Umber shows her that's not what she really wants.
This was a lovely short. So real and emotional. But it had a hopeful side. I love Umber standing ten toes down about Sew, taking care of her, making sure she was safe, casting out her doubt. And making her a part of his life. Sew had everything she needed to be brave, and she was. Love the story.
Oh my! Grey has done it again! Sew, a soul who wanted to avoid all resemblances of love for fear of a distraction showing back up but falls for Mr. Neighbor and he's not backing down. Umber is blunt and having some issues of his own. He shows Sew deserved love. Mya is too funny and genuinely was concerned for her friend, Sew. I loved the characters. The issue of the C word was raw and accurate. The fast paced romance was so realistic and I truly enjoyed it! It was so funny that plants and art(the paintings and the music) were such a issue. Since the Covid 19 pandemic has brought these outlets a different meaning to me as well. I have a few Covid babies I'm nursing and I love to color. I made me an sanctuary Oasis of books, music and art. Reading this did my heart good. So glad to read any of Grey's work. The playlist is 🔥🔥🔥!
I’ve been watching Grey’s social media for weeks trying to figure out her next book and now it all makes sense. Sew represented a woman that some of us are, definitely me(the disclosure had me looking in the mirror). She was scared to love and live life because of her personal problems. See was also care free. Open windows, no blinds loved it. Umber was the man next door. He didn’t know what to expect from Sew but once he saw her, he was sold. He was her protector, friend and later lover. The love that they had was slow but also fast. This book ended perfectly though I always want more.
This book spoke to me. No I don’t and didn’t have cancer, but I have battling lupus for 20 +years. The battle got so intense that it took my entire 30’s away from me. I was sick sick, doing chemo, etc. Now I’m 44 and I find myself identifying with her and her notion of not wanting to put someone through it all. I, after reading this book and the urging of my therapist, have decided that it’s not to late to live, to love and enjoy life in the now. Nothing is promised so love free right now, be open and let love find me. No more fear. I guess this book is my muse. 💜
I loved every minute of Sew and Umber. This is a short that delivers on fulfillment. Sew’s complexities are real and rightfully so but Umber in all his masculinity is reassuring. Let’s just take a moment and give Umber a round of applause because he is definitely a whole entire secure, and confident man. I also liked the pace of this book. It read so smoothly and detailed that it doesn’t really feel like a short. Per usual Grey didn’t disappoint and you should definitely read this.
this book was just ok for me. Sew got on my nerves. I understand she just survived cancer but her "I'm going to avoid future happiness because my cancer may come back and I want to spare anyone that pain" got under my skin. proceeding like a victim not a survivor. then when she got mad at her neighbor for not telling her he had a child as if he lied to her or owed her anything was too much. chile please have several seats. other than that, I enjoyed the story. please read, esp if you're a sucker for instalove.
Sew wanted, needed, and desired love but she was to afraid to seek it because of a past medical scare but Umber was very persistent in tearing down all Sew's resistance. I like how they had a moment of transparency and then took their relationship to the next level. I like the fact that Umber is combining his life with Sew and allowing her to meet Umi solidifying what she means to him.
I am rating this novelette a four only because I wish it was a novel. I enjoyed reading about Sew and Umber, and the overall plot was good. Sew recently beat breast cancer and is scared that it will return, which makes her reluctant to love again. Some parts of the story were unrealistic. For instance, in real life, you would never be okay with a man sneaking into your bedroom window, but in this book, it somehow works 🫠. Overall, it was a quick and entertaining read.
As an avid reader of Grey’s work, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is a concise and engaging read that offers a delightful “neighbor next door” experience. I appreciate the author’s commitment to diversity in their writing, as the background reflects the diverse readership. Their work addresses various illnesses with sensitivity and respect for those who are currently experiencing or have survived them.
Really enjoyed Muse. As a BC Survivor, even though it’s coming on 11 years in October, I still feel as if my life is in limbo sometimes. This book came right on time, reminding me to continue to live and love. You are never the same after a diagnosis....everything is a little more precious and time is more valuable. One click and follow Sew and Umber.
My heart went out to Sew, depriving herself of love and companionship; on the what if factor. Umber, was rough around the edges, but tender and vulnerable with Sew. When he finally convinced Sew, that love was worth taking the chance; they were both so fufilled. Their connection was so amazing! Another great one gh! 👍👍👍
Sew was very adamant about denying herself a shot of love because of what she went through but the universe has a way of giving us exactly what we needed without us realizing it. Umber he was very persistent about Sew and because of that he was able to knock down her walls.
Grey comes though once again with the short, sexy, romantic read. Everyone needs a man to uplift them, give them confidence and never give of their pursuit of them and Umber was all of that and more . You know that the man is it when he becomes a muse at first sight. Loved me some Umber!
This is another great read. Loved the steadfastness of Umber as Sew challenged her “self”. I love the way this author explores the complexity of relationships and invites the reader on the characters journeys.
