I'd like to start by thanking the author/publisher for sending me a copy of this book. I was excited that it arrived just a few weeks prior to the election. I began reading it just a few days after I received my copy.

Let me start by saying that Jonathan J. Mize is clearly an intelligent person, a skilled writer and someone who has clearly gone through their own journey (& extensive research) to get to where he is. I felt that the book laid claim to a bunch of ideas that Mize believes strongly in.

I would identify as a liberal and a member of the modern left, and I could see some very valid points made by both Mize, and his conservative party members. I was excited to read something that would give me some viewpoints from the 'other side' and I felt that overall I entered the space with an open mind to learn something new and to challenge my beliefs - and I think in some ways I did!

I think my biggest criticism of this book was the dramatics of Mize's language towards the very people he was trying to convince of his viewpoints. His wording was... childish? It was mocking? It was antagonizing. It was also a bit obnoxious to to overstate what the 'modern left' believes / supports / wants with their government. A lot of generalizations and finger pointing, which got old by the end.

I was wondering who the intended audience for this book was, as I originally expected it to be someone like myself who could... potentially... but probably not...consider leaning right? At least economically. Either way, after reading this, learning some new things and questioning others, I feel fairly confident that Mize has a lot of anger towards the left and took it out on ... his readers? I also feel more confident as Democrat than ever before. The absolutes of some of the claims... especially a few comments on abortion...to have been stated by a white male...very out of touch with reality.
