T. Jackson King (Tom) is an Amazon bestselling science fiction and urban fantasy author. He is a lifelong reader of SciFi/Fantasy stories and his favorite authors have included Darynda Jones, BR Kingsolver, K.F. Breene, Martha Carr, Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, Andre Norton, J. K. Rowling, Ann Christy, Lois McMaster Bujold and Ursula LeGuin. Outside of fantasy and science fiction he has enjoyed the novels of Rudyard Kipling, Charles Dickens, Edgar Allan Poe and Arthur Conan Doyle, and the urban fantasy crime mysteries of Darynda Jones.

Tom began writing SF novels at age 38, when he discovered he had read all the Human-Alien first contact or encounter novels in his local library. So he decided to write his own, thanks to an overactive, very visual imagination. Those early years produced FIRST CONTACT and RETREAD SHOP. When the New York City publishing houses ignored his later novels because they had no Hollywood tie-in, he went to several small presses, then began self-publishing as an Indy author in 2011. He loves that readers in the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia are some of his most loyal readers!

Before becoming a bestselling author, Tom worked in a radiocarbon lab at UC Riverside and earned an MA degree in Archaeology from UCLA. His interests in ancient history, ancient cultures and journalism got him several government agency jobs that led him to roam the raw landscape of the Western United States where he worked as a federal archaeologist and newspaper journalist.

Tom lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA and hangs with a group of smart and tolerant Westerners. Divorce taught him to smile a lot and to work at being a Nice Guy. Which earned him the love of his wife Sue. Still, he is pretty weird. Has been since fourth grade when he began reading SciFi. Since then, he and Authority have rarely been in agreement. Readers are welcome to visit his T. Jackson King page.

Worth the read, despite the cringe

The story was awesome, the dialog was...hard to force myself through. The author was clearly trying to use Gen Z speak, but way over did it. I have kids and siblings and friends who are Gen Z and literally none of them talk like that constantly. And they can code switch when talking to someone not of their social circle. Also, a lot of terms were used in a way that was technically correct, but the context or syntax wasn't quite right. It distracted from the otherwise great plot and solid character development. Not many authors can host that many characters that clearly. I'll need a break before reading the next, and I hope this author finds a Gen Z beta reader or editor to help tone down the slang that wound up being more than a little extra.

Bad guys beware, Janie will tear you a new one!

Great first novel of a fantastic series! Very interesting plot, characters that you will love, especially Janie, the main character and her snarky bat familiar Abner. Read this book and this series, you will be so glad that you did!

Janie is a white witch (as in good witch) who is a student at Colorado University Boulder, aka C.U.B. or CUB. She works at the Boulder Cafe Tribal as a waitress. Cafe Tribal caters to both humans and magical beings called “Supers.”

The world Janie lives in is full of these “Supers”, I.e., Supernaturals. Everything from witches, vampires, werewolves, elves, etc., to ancient gods and their associates. Needless to say, it’s a very interesting, and sometimes very dangerous world! And, of course, working at Cafe Tribal, she meets and interacts with all kinds and types of Supers, good, bad and neutral.

And, to make it even more interesting, some of these Supers find Janie VERY interesting and attractive. Which of course makes her life extremely interesting and frequently, very dangerous!

This book is incredibly fun and interesting and you will fall in love with Janie, Abner and Cafe Tribal. Come on in for a cup of great coffee and very fun, interesting and captivating characters and stories!

You’ll be extremely glad you did!!

P.S. T. Jackson’s nickname should be “Santa Claus”, because he brings us the gift 🎁 and joy of his super enjoyable stories!

Awesome

I really, really enjoyed this latest book by T. Jackson King. I especially liked his respect for women and the inner voice he gave to the main character. I'm sorry I read it so quickly because now I have to wait until December 15th for the next book in this series. Since I love mathematics, it was fun to have a math major learning to use her magical powers. I think she is going to be an important force for Good the same way his Geezer series describes. And it is so very refreshing to inhabit the worlds King creates where Good is a choice made willingly and sincerely. Thank you for sharing your storytelling talents, Mr. King!

Worth a read.

I enjoyed the story and the overall reader experience. As with all these Amazon ebooks, the authors really need to not rely so heavily on their word processor for grammer and spelling. This book was better than most for it low number of odd word and gramer corrections and it read it all the way through.

I enjoyed this story by yet another "new to me" author and I am looking forward to the next book in the series. The main characters were believable, fun, startled a laugh or two out of me, and became increasingly endearing as the story progressed. The plot is straight forward and easily followed, with surprises and battles with evil. I highly recommend this book and look forward to the next ones.

A fun new take on the magical meeting the mundane. Bit of a stretch for some of the jargon/lingo but the story was lit.

This is a rather simple story. It is more about flashy magic and fantastic creatures than any form of deep story or character development. Having said that, I did enjoy the book as an escape from reality in the same way I enjoy rather unintelligent but special effects loaded action movies.

The book blurb is somewhat misleading when it states that “Janie Wilmott never believed her granny’s tales of magic and supernatural creatures“. From page one Janie works in a bar where supernatural creatures abound and she is bloody well aware about this. What she is not aware of is that she is one of them.

Janie is very much a kick-ass girl already from the start and once she has discovered her magical abilities she quickly takes it to the next level…and the one above that.

As I wrote, this is a rather simple read and throughout the book Janie is pretty much thrown into one dire situation after another when various supernaturals challenges the new witch. There is not really much story behind it and very little depth.

But it is a fun read and I for one quite like when various creatures discover that they’ve bitten over more (much more) than they can chew.

Unfortunately the book is somewhat dragged down by the authors desire to cater for various groups on the woke side. The feminist messages are not really very subtle. Nor are the ones about sexuality. I could not care less about whether the main protagonist is hetero, lesbian or bi and I really do not need to have her preferences thrown into my face every so often.

Just to add to this the author just had to throw in a bit of creationism and of course the creator is a she. A shame really. The book would have done well without all that nonsense and a bit more real story instead.

No character development, naive super power story

The characters are very shallow, there is no reality to it. The heroine is extremely superficial. The story develops from one acquired additional power to the next - boring!

Tried to hard

This author tries to hard, there is like 8 or 9 books smashed into one. Won't ruin the story but should of spent more time on character development then throwing bad person or creature one after another, with very quick fights, even against ancient god like beings

I did not like this book, it was poorly paced, continuity was bad and the characters were flat and one dimensional. Pity, very interesting concept.
