Welcome to the wintery seaside village of Gorran Porth where Isabel is serving up a Full English breakfast in Glebelands guest house. She's not doing too badly either, considering she only arrived in the village on Christmas Eve, with no clothes and no idea what to do next. She's going to need all her skills and a few new friends to cope with what happens after breakfast.
This was a very good first novel and a well paced read ,a Cornish mystery, funny, with very detailed and recognisable characters, I look forward to reading more about Isobel Pat and the their amusing and uniquely Cornish way if life.
A village mystery that's packed with memorable characters and not-too-gory thrills. The setting--a tiny Cornish village in winter--and the heroine--who rises above sorrow and breakfast-making for strangers--offer plenty of surprises. The mystery at the story's center is intriguing and believable, but the great fun is right inside that Second Envelope.
A young woman recovering from life's traumas, hidden away in Cornwall, gets pulled into investigating a crime when a dead body appears - and then disappears - in the guest house she is looking after. Some fun characters and great potential for more in the series. Recommended for lovers of the genre.
I loved the intrigue, the surprising characters, the slow-burn reveal of Isabel’s former life, the clear delight in language, and most of all the wit. The ‘buttered baps’ will stay with me for a long time and had me laughing out loud. Please write more, Suzy!
